The Imperative of Daily Practice
0:30 - 1:09 (39 min)
The imperative is daily yoga practice for health, which must precede spirituality. Most do not practice regularly, leading to physical and mental illness. The body naturally produces vikāras (illnesses) and is dominated by tamas guṇa (inertia). Through daily practice, one cultivates a sāttvic body free of vikāra, which then purifies the mind and intellect. The essential program includes daily āsana, prāṇāyāma, Neti, Agniśāra, and weekly Kunḍalinī Kriyā with seasonal Śaṅkha Prakṣālana. Diet must be sāttvic, avoiding meat and eggs, with disciplined eating times. Teachers must exemplify this. The foundation is purifying āhār (diet), vihār (recreation), ācār (behavior), and vicār (thought).
"Practicing means at home—here you only learn. Practicing for just one week is ineffective; it must be a continuous, daily process."
"When the body is unhealthy and full of vikāras, the thoughts become full of vikāras."
