Practical spiritual experience, not just theory, provides this unshakable clarity. Your intellect then becomes a helper, not an obstacle. You must avoid negative discussions, books, and societies that act like viruses in your consciousness. The human intellect is sensitive and can be steered by gossip and wrong impressions, which create negative mental patterns. These negative influences are like lemon in milk; they spoil your spiritual practice, which is built through sādhanā, mantras, and positive living. Once spoiled, this spiritual "milk" is nearly impossible to restore. Jealousy is a primary destructive force, a karmic illness manifesting in personal, spiritual, and even economic realms. It fuels the spreading of negative rumors, a modern weapon. The story of Nārada illustrates how jealousy and gossip can create doubt and sever even divine relationships, requiring great effort to mend. Therefore, be humble, avoid negative company, and protect your spiritual progress by guarding your thoughts and words.

Protection is mutual; safeguarding others safeguards yourself. Dharma, patience, a true friend, and a faithful partner are revealed in terrible times when all others oppose you. Without these, meditation is impossible due to mental disturbances, the vikāras: greed, insatiable desire, fickleness, and thievery of mind, word, and deed, including intellectual property. Stealing a master's teachings without acknowledgment creates bad karma. All true masters are connected like branches of one tree. Honesty and mercy are the roots of dharma; pride is the root of sin. Purify these first; then meditation can come.

The five sheaths (kośas) are layers around the soul: the physical body, energy, mind, intellect, and bliss. Attachment (mamatā) is the cause of suffering, a hook that catches you. To be free, give without expectation. Master your mind, habits, desires, and hopes to find liberation.
