Building of the camp at Kumbha Mela 2010
1:50 - 1:57 (7 min)
Recorded on
It is one of the miracles and great experiences of Kumbh Mela to see the transformation that comes over the Mela area in the weeks before the start of the Kumbh. On the 21st of January, barely 10 days before the start of the Kumbh, the area on which now stands a tent city accomodating millions of people was nothing but some beautiful empty fields spreading out through the streams of Mother Ganga. Day by day the development of the whole area moved at such a speed as the fields filled with tents, colour and noise to become the wonder of the world which is Maha Kumbh Mela. Preparations of our camp where especially urgent in the days leading up to Swamiji's arrival and the groups of devotees that came with Him. Through Swamiji's guidance and practical knowledge adjustments and changes where made to the camp to bring it to it's present form, a temporary sanctuary from the elements for doing sadhana and experiencing the joys of His satsang and Maha Kumbh Mela.

Following his testimony, a moderated panel featuring practitioners of Homeopathy, Ayurveda, Siddha, and Yoga discusses pathways to integrate these AYUSH systems with modern medicine for holistic wellness. The Practice of Śalabhāsana and Complementary Āsanas
17:50 - 18:49 (59 min)
Recorded on
We practice śalabhāsana and complementary āsanas to strengthen the body and influence consciousness. Śalabhāsana is performed with legs joined and arms stretched overhead, lifting both simultaneously. Hold with full lungs and descend on the exhalation, though breathe naturally if you have high blood pressure or ocular pressure. It strengthens the posterior muscles, benefits the prostate, and aids women with painful menstruation. A hands-under-body variation stretches the digestive tract and helps kyphosis. Always bend from the thoracic spine, not the lumbar. Follow with relaxation in ānandāsana and pavanamuktāsana to release lower back tension. This backward bend builds self-confidence and vitality. Sarvāṅgāsana improves peripheral circulation and balances thyroid function, but avoid it with hyperthyroidism, high blood pressure, or during menstruation. Its counterpose, bhuḍaṅgāsana, stretches the front body and corrects slouching by bending from the chest. Halāsana stretches the back and affects the neck, emphasizing exhalation. Its counterpose, matsyāsana, opens the chest and benefits breathing; it uses inhalation through the nose and exhalation through the mouth. A one-legged balance pose improves concentration and leg strength. Ardha matsyendrāsana regenerates the spine and has anti-inflammatory effects. An inverted posture, mistakenly called vṛkṣāsana, benefits circulation to the head and spiritual development. Conclude with tāḍāsana and bhastrikā prāṇāyāma, which acts like bellows to intensify digestive fire and burn impurities. Do not practice bhastrikā with a brain tumor or fever. Chant Oṁ to create a protective sheath before meditation. "Śalabhāsana, being a backward bend that requires strong muscles, works very well on our self-confidence." "In this posture, simply allow one subtle, extended exhalation." Filming location: Zagreb, Croatia

Falahārī nutrition is a simple, natural way of eating that brings health and vitality. This diet uses perfect, uncooked foods as they grow. I have followed it for years, feeling energetic and healthy. We prepare a menu suitable after fasting: a vegetable soup with mung bean, a spiced cabbage and carrot vegetable, an olive herb pesto, and a salad. Salad is now a main food for me. The apple cake is not baked but made from nuts and dried fruits. It is important to feel free in your food choices without strict rules. I became a vegetarian through yoga, which greatly improved my life. Each dish alone could be a meal, but today we make a special combination. We finish with a vanilla sauce for the cake. This food is very healthy and satisfying. "Everything grown in nature is already perfect." "Becoming a vegetarian is one of the greatest gifts for me." Filming location: Vép, Hungary
