The Triad of Grace: Guru Vākya, Seva, and Kṛpā

The path requires understanding Guru Vākya, performing Guru Seva, and receiving Guru Kṛpā. These three are inseparable. Guru Vākya is the unchangeable truth spoken by realized beings, found in perfect scriptures like the Bhagavad Gītā and Upanishads. Manipulating these words creates conflict. Understanding this divine message inspires Seva. True Guru Seva is not personal service but conveying this truth to all creatures without conflict or expectation, as serving creation serves the divine. This practice attracts grace. That grace transforms consciousness, making the disciple like the master.

"Service to all creatures and humans is service to me."

"Deep Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān, Kī Jai, Dev Purīṣa Mahādeva, Kī Jai, Mādhav Kṛṣṇa Bhagavān, Kī Jai."

Good morning to everybody. Hari Om. How are you? I can understand you. It is the second day of the Anuṣṭhāna, and so you are a little tired from sitting. But it is not so bad; you are not sitting so long. The maximum sitting time for one position is 40 minutes, and you are moving all the time. So, anyhow, nice to see you this morning, and welcome. Our subject is again the solving of certain problems in life. There, of course, first of all, we need Guru Kṛpā. After all, finally it is said, Guru Kṛpāhi Kevalam—only the Guru’s grace. Through that, everything is possible. If Guru Kṛpā is not there, you have everything, but you are not successful. Your car is very good, all parts are there, everything is in order, but there is no petrol. Similarly, there is no petrol, the energy of the Guru Kṛpā. And that Guru Kṛpā is not easy to get, always. For that, we have to understand certain things. The first is called Guru Seva. And Guru Seva you can only do if you understand Guru Vākya. So there is the Guru Vakya, Guru Sevā, and Guru Kṛpā. These three are very, very closely connected to each other. Without this, you cannot do anything. Now, the Guru Vākya. It is said, Dhyāna Mūlam Guru Mūrtim—meditate on the embodiment of Gurudev. To meditate on this form means that you are meditating on pure divine energy. You are meditating on that divine form in which the self-reliant soul is residing, and that is very important for us. Therefore, it is a Dhyānamūlaṁ Guru Mūrti. Now, Guru means the one who has realized Brahman. It is called Brahmaniṣṭha Śrotriya, the lover of the Brahman, who can inspire us on our spiritual path so that we can attain that realization. Sat means the truth, Gu means darkness, and Ru means the light. So, the one who leads us from the darkness of unreality to the light of reality is called the Satguru. Now the Guru Vakya; Vakya means the words. All the holy scriptures, all the divine ancient scriptures which were spoken by great self-realized souls, that is for us Guru Vākya. Not that someone is writing an article about someone. So certain language is fixed, certain poetry is fixed, that you cannot change. For example, you cannot change the Bhagavad Gītā, the Sanskrit. The Bhagavad Gītā is written in the Sanskrit language. Every śloka, every chapter, is written so perfectly in grammar and language. It is impossible that anyone would dare to change even a half alphabet, that is so perfect. And if something is changed, immediately you will know there is something wrong. So that means that language serves that purpose, so that no one can manipulate it, and no one can repeat it wrong. Now the Bhagavad Gītā has translations in many, many languages. All the languages of the world have translated the Bhagavad Gītā, and it has been translated into many dialects also. The translation can be different because how you think, that is the translation. But a person who knows Sanskrit, a person who knows the grammar, will understand what the Bhagavad Gītā means. Similarly, I have today in my hands the Upaniṣad. There are nine Upanishads in this book, and it is 108 Upanishads. But the main Upanishads are here. These are also spoken by great saints in the Sanskrit language. And it is written in such a perfect way that you cannot change it. If you change, it will be wrong. It is like this: you change your nose to the back side of your head. Can you imagine? And your eyes, you put one here and one here. Like a chameleon, no? It can look like this. So, it is a perfection of the language. And that language then writes a poem. These ślokas, you can say, are something like a poem. Therefore, you cannot manipulate; you cannot change. So it means, if you want to know what a Guru Vakya is, then you have to read those holy books to understand that one. Otherwise, many times we are changing many books, so-called holy books; in every edition, they are changing. We humans are very clever. There is one biography of someone, some sādhu or yogī; the original was 150-200 pages, and now it is more than 1000 pages. So it is how people are changing. What you can change is not a reality, and what is unchangeable is the reality. Therefore, the Guru Vakya is not only the words of your master, but the words of all divine incarnations, all great divine saints who incarnate, and all great self-realized ones. Their words are for us a Guru Vākya. Now, if there is a guru, then he or she—yes, she can be a guru too. Many of you are sitting here, but you are still inside. It can sprout out. These ladies can be gurus, but the problem for these ladies is different: that they can’t become a guru. Guru, because they have little self-discipline. And men, of course, not at all. So it is not easy. But when you develop in you, you know, there is one, let’s say, one worm within one capsule, and it turns into a butterfly. So within you, you are that one, if you want, but there is a lot of effort to be done, a lot of practice to be done. And one negative thought can keep you down. Therefore, Mahāprabhujī said in his bhajan, "Manva." Deep Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān, Kī Jai, Dev Purīṣa Mahādeva, Kī Jai, Mādhav Kṛṣṇa Bhagavān, Kī Jai. Therefore, in sādhanā, slowly, just one negative thought, just one wrong step can pull you down. So, all these great saints, no matter from which country, which culture, or which tradition, they all spoke the truth. Now, the truth can only be one. There is no two truths. Therefore, now in this modern time, many people are manipulating the divine, holy words according to their interest. And that is what we call a conflict in people, through the emotional feeling of religion. So religion has become a very sensitive point for people. It is a very, very problematic and conflicting situation, because the truth is the same. Now, it does not matter how you go. And who are you to tell someone to go this way or that way? Because you also do not know. And when you know, you will tell the same path. It is always the same thing. Therefore, the Guru Vakya to understand is not only the words of your master, but from all ancient times they spoke for us. Their teachings, their techniques were given; this is a Guru Vakya for us. Now, lucky are they who meet a Satguru. Everything is easy in life to get, but it is rare to get a Satguru. And now in this Kali Yuga time, it is even more difficult, because we know there are many, but they just play as a Satguru. They have no spiritual background, they have no spiritual lineage, they have no authentic, authentic way. And that is why, on the psychological way, they can manipulate you in different ways, and you are again then lost. So, very, very problematic situations in the world. So first, to understand Guru Vakya. If you do not understand, then you are in trouble. Misunderstand. And misunderstanding can lead both of us in the wrong direction. Misunderstanding creates conflict. Misunderstanding creates fighting. Misunderstandings can break relationships. Misunderstanding can break your best friendship. So, therefore, understand the Guru Vākya. Try to understand the Guru Vākya. When you understand the Guru Vakya, then your heart will melt. Your intellect will be inspired to do the Seva. Now, Guru Seva. What do I understand about doing Guru Seva? To sit beside the Guru and massage the feet, or cook for him? Or wash the laundry? No. Guru Seva means to bring this divine message, this message of the truth, to the whole world, to help those people who are still in darkness. That is, in reality, the real guruship, that you are bringing the message, the same mission. Now, the mission means not to understand the mission, which is converting the people with the money power, and with the political power, and with the fightings. They pay the money to the people, and they change the religion. That is not a mission, that is a commission. And that commission, you can say it is bhakṣis, or that commission you can say in some way, like a corruption. That is the money of the corruptions, the commissions, and the missions. Therefore, we do not convert, we convince. We have to convince everyone that we are all the same. Then what are you converting? Why do you confuse the people and lead them in the wrong direction? If the religious conflict in the world is solved, we all humans will live in peace. We all humans will be happy. And you know, we are human, and we love our humans. We have love for humans. We understand humans, and humans are our brothers and sisters, and, of course, other creatures too. But why are humans fighting? Why was there a question yesterday about Africa, that people were suffering, with no eating and no drinking? Or why is there a problem in a certain part of the world, with the wars going on? Why? Humans will not do this, but there must be some emotional motivation. It brought them in such a way that they are fighting. Therefore, if we understand the true Guru Vākya, all holy books are Guru Vakya. Let us take the Bible. It is said that Jesus said to his disciples, "I am the way to the Holy Father, or to the Father." That is 100,000% true. But they did not tell who told whom. That was a Guru, a master to all the disciples. The entire gospel is only between master and disciple. So Jesus was a master, and he was teaching his disciples there. And the closest were these twelve disciples. So that is a Guru Vākya. That Gurudev is a way to the Father, but, ah, no, we do not accept this. Because only He, and that is all. Only He, and that is all. Now, what happens? Finished. You close the chapter. Now it has no continuity of that spirituality. Now everybody is there, but nobody is there to guide them. Because you are blocked in that one book. Why? Because it is misunderstood. That book is a book of salvation. It can lead us to our aim. So, this needs to be explained. But who they are, this is again another problem. You will not accept. Therefore, Sanātana Dharma is a living Dharma. It has a masterliness, and everyone has a choice to have that master which they choose, and not say only. So there is nothing, only. You have children. You can only say, "I am the father, Hari Om." But you know, your son is also a father, and your grandson is also a father. And if you do not have a son, you will be unhappy, or your daughter. If you have no daughter, you will be unhappy. How will you get a granddaughter or grandson? So it is continuity. You cannot stop, that is all. It should progress; it should go. Similarly, so Guru Seva means that wherever you are, you lead the people towards the truth, towards that reality, Brahmagyāna, without conflict, without fighting and without causing pain to other creatures. That is a Guru Seva. Holy Gurujī is writing in his Līlāmṛta, after having Sannyāsa Dīkṣā, Holy Gurujī asked Mahāprabhujī, "How, in which way, can I serve you? How do you accept my seva?" And Mahāprabhujī said, "Go into the world and serve all creatures. Service to all creatures and humans is service to me." And that is called real Guru Seva. Otherwise, you are close, you do the seva, others think, "Aha, this is the closest person," and you create what you call jealousy. Again, another conflict. Therefore, Seva, you have to understand. And where there is Seva, there are no conditions. Where there is seva, you should not expect anything. And where there is a Seva, you can expect difficulties. That is it, because it is not easy to do the sevā. Your ego, your pride, and some people do not want you to be doing this. And people will look at you and shout at you. And you think, "Oh God, we cannot take this yoga uniform, because people think we are some sect." And? And? Let them think? You think they will come and kill you? Okay, let them kill. That is it. But you are afraid. You know, when your daughter goes without trousers, only 10 cm of cloth over the body, and maybe 20 cm on the upper part of the body, that you accept. But when you have a proper, nice, long dress, that you do not accept. How crazy the world is. How crazy the world. Many people are thinking badly about the women in the Middle East. But you know how nicely they are dressed, how respectfully they are. And men also, how nicely and respectfully they are dressed. Because they do not do what you do, and that is why you think they are bad. No, no, no. I always admire the people in the Middle East for keeping their tradition. They really follow the religions. Okay, a few may be political reasons, and a few things are happening in the world. But you see, the dignity of the human should be protected. People go out at night to restaurants, come home totally drunk, with bruises, and on drugs, which the parents accept. But not if someone goes to meditate and comes home. This is for God? What is happening? So this is a Kali Yuga. Therefore, you have to do the Guru Seva to make people aware. And those who are just lying on the beach without anything, they will have skin cancer. But those who have a nice, thin linen, at least a cloth over the body, you can lie down in the sun, but cover with a thin cloth that will protect your skin, that will give you a nice, cool breeze. Otherwise, in the next life, you will be that sea dog or the sea lion. Lying on the beach without anything, that will be the next life. So there is a human; the way of human life is different, and the way of other creatures is different. So we have to understand. So do the Śiva. Do the Śiva according to those scriptures. Now let us come to Christianity. Again, because there are more Christians here. Did you ever see anywhere a picture of Mother Maria in a bikini? And you said you follow the Holy Mother Mary. You follow Christianity. Where do you follow? Did you see Jesus’ father, Joseph? And just on the FKK? So you have to go with the realism. You have changed it. And that is why the problem is there. Otherwise, there is no problem. There would be kindness, love, harmony, everything. So we remain religious persons symbolically: time of birth, marriage, and death. And by marriage, also not anymore. So, Seva. Service to all creatures is a service to God. That is why helping hands have more value than praying hands. So that is called the Guru Seva. When you have this, understood the Vākyas, and then you understand, you do the seva, then automatically you get kṛpā. Does not matter, even if you are sitting somewhere under a tree, and you feel Guru Kṛpā. You feel happy. You see far, far distance. You feel oneness with Gurudeva, and you feel the love, the Kṛpā. That time, your inner consciousness will open again, more and more, and you become that master. So, there is a precious stone, pārasa, when you touch iron to the pārasa, the pārasa turns into gold. But that pārasa does not make the iron pārasa. But the master makes the disciple a master. And then it is different between the pārasa and the master. So, if you understood what I said, then do it. And if you do not understand, then it is okay. So, I told the Croatian people, "You are lying on the coast. Why do you check, dress, and undress completely?" Is not it we want to get brown? Marry with some Indians? Yes, your children will be automatically brown. You are with African, no problem. You see, no problem. And we have many Indian boys who would like to come here. They are very nice boys. I can give you the address, so accept what God has given. That is it. So mantra. So dhyāna mūlaṁ guru mūrti. So meditate on that embodiment of the guru. That will transfer into you. It is said, jaisī dṛṣṭi vaisī sṛṣṭi. What you see like that, the world will appear. When you see the picture of your mother, you feel the love of the mother. When you see the picture of your father, you feel the love of the father. When you see the picture of your dog, you feel the love. And when you see this small baby, then the love of the baby appears in you. Similarly, when you see the Gurudeva and meditate on his picture, that Gurudeva appears; his divinity, his divine love, appears to you. And what is that divine love? The blessing, kṛpā. Kṛpā, and therefore ittanātukarna Gurujī sing. Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Kī Jai, Śrī Svāmī Maheśvarānanda Jī Gurudeva Kī Jai. So, itnā to karnā Gurujī, darśana jaldī denā, bhrama jāla mein phasā ho Prabhu, bhīga śuddhi layanā. So, O Gurudev, please do that, that I may have your darśana, and take me out of these worldly complications. Likewise, the spiritual relation to spirituality, the spiritual relation to the spiritual world—the spiritual relation means the relation to that reality, the truth, that we are ātmā, we are not this body, and we are born for that realization of the ātmā, to realize God. And that is that God appears within you as that truth. Then many problems of life will be solved. And now we will chant some mantras, practicing to overcome certain problems and also to get success in life. So our next webcast will be in the evening, in the afternoon, at a quarter past. Last five p.m. So until then, for all our dear friends around the world, all the best, and now we will have a practical session. Techniques are very important to learn and to practice. So until then, Om Śānti, Śānti, Śānti.
