Swamijis public lecture in Humenne, Slovakia

Truth and harmony are found within, not through external measurement or conflict. Knowledge, love, and God cannot be measured. The search for truth is an inner journey; what you seek, you already are. Problems arise from emotional domination and greed. Yoga is the ancient practice leading to the real Self. It creates harmony in body, mind, and soul, which is living in harmony with the world. There is only one human culture and race. Modern technology connects us globally, making us citizens of an endless ocean. Health is foundational. Feel your body as a divine gift. Practice brings clarity and realization, releasing blockages and awakening dormant energy. Yoga is designed for human well-being without discrimination, presenting ancient wisdom for modern life.

"Within you is the bliss of the ocean. Within you is the immortal one."

"Yoga is designed for the well-being of the human: for their physical, mental, social, and spiritual health."

Om brahmānandam paramasukhadam kevalam jñānamūrtim dvandvātītam gaganasadṛśam tasmādyadilakṣyam achalam sarvadhiṣākṣibhūtam bhavātītam triguṇarahitam Satguruṁ tam namāmi. Om Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ. Salutation to the Cosmic Light. Humble adoration to Satgurū Deva Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Mahāprabhujī. A beautiful good evening to you, dear brothers and sisters. It is my privilege and Divine blessing to be here with you this evening. I remember visiting one year ago, and now we are here again. This morning, the respected mayor of the city invited me to his office, where we planted a peace tree. He intended to be here this evening, but as the head of the city has many duties—many headaches—he could not come. We appreciate his invitation nonetheless. For the last 37 years, I have been traveling in your country. This is my fourth visit to this city, though the last was long ago, before many of you were born. I know the geography of Slovakia a little better than Indian geography. We were looking yesterday: Slovakia has 47,000 square kilometers, while India has 3,300,000. They are a little different, but this measurement is a creation of the human brain's conflicts. Once, I saw written on a school blackboard: "How many kilograms did you learn today?" with an empty line for the answer. The measurement in kilograms, centimeters, and kilometers limits human freedom. Knowledge cannot be measured. Love cannot be measured. Truth cannot be measured. What is God and what is not God cannot be measured. Therefore, the truth is within us, which means it is in the entire universe. Who am I to tell you to believe only this? That would be discrimination. Who speaks about God? Has he or she seen God? If you haven't seen God, with what authentic experience do you speak about Him? Therefore, God, truth, love, spirituality, and wisdom exist without any limitation. From this endless journey throughout the endless universe, where individual souls flutter on the waves of time, experiencing happiness and unhappiness, miseries, pain, pleasure, darkness, torture, and light—how many lives do we have behind us? This morning I said, forget that. It was. Do something so it will not be like that anymore. We are all in search of that truth, and it is within ourselves. To see the blue sky, you need not travel anywhere. To see that ultimate truth, you need not go anywhere. Just look within thyself. You are that one. What you are searching for, you are that one. The love you are searching for, you are that love. The happiness you are searching for, you are that one. Just look within. One great saint said: Within you is the bliss of the ocean. Within you is the joy of the fountain. Within you is the immortal one. Kill this little "I" and lead a divine life. Problems arise when people begin to dominate and manipulate. Humans are very emotional creatures. Human emotion can be very dangerous. Time and again, all the wars in history on this planet have stemmed from the greed for position and power—emotion. Emotion means you are in motion, and that motion can be like a hurricane in which we are lost. Yoga is very ancient. The practice of yoga will lead you to your real Self. That is the way to your real Self or to God. See within thyself that one who speaks constantly to you: "I am the way to the divine." Because you are a part of that cosmic One. Every entity is the daughter and the son of God. One creator. Only one, which has no name, no form. And He is everywhere, omniscient and omnipresent. If you feel the presence of that cosmic Self within thyself, your intellect and heart will not allow you to cause pain to anyone, nor even to have thoughts of defeating someone. For example, in Christianity it is said, "Love your neighbor." Do you love your next one? Not just your husband or wife—you don't need someone to tell you to love your spouse. If you are waiting for someone to tell you to love your husband, that is not love. Loving your family is natural, automatic. But "love your neighbor" means your neighbors and all other lives. I don't want to talk about politics, but when two candidates in the field are both Christians and say they believe in Jesus, ask them: What did He say? "Love your neighbor." Then they should sit down and not fight against the other candidate. That would be the great answer. But they would say, "I didn't mean it like that." If every politician followed the words of Jesus, Slovakia could save a lot of money wasted on elections. There would mutually already be a leader. So do not use the names or words of God as weapons from your mouth for selfish use. Therefore, love God. Truth is the difference, and we can understand it when we are healthy: physically, mentally, socially, emotionally. Then we understand what spirituality is. Be sure, every politician would like to do something good for the country. Definitely. But there are many obstacles. A big obstacle is a very weak point: money. When one becomes a minister and someone opens the door of the treasury, looking at how much gold and money is there, the whole night the minister dreams of it. How soon can it come to my room? That's called hypnotizing. The minister is also a normal human being. Hypnotizing means brainwashing. Money can brainwash. In India, when I was a small child, they used to write on walls and in schools: "Be careful, deal with respect, distance, and maintain distance." With clear thinking, be careful with three things. Now you have the internet: W, W, W. The internet is also very dangerous. Be careful. As children, we looked and asked, "What are the three W's?" Below was written: One W: Wealth. Second: Wine. Third: Woman. When you see these three, fold your hands till the elbows to protect yourself. We don't hate. We are not against. But we respect. We love. Temptation in the world is horrible. We have to protect ourselves. As soon as you have a healthy brain, a clear healthy mind, and a good family—a good husband and a good wife—you will have good children. Children are the true form, the true examples, of the parents. The nation will go in the direction the children go. The children's future is in your hands. You have a beautiful family culture in Slovakia, thanks to God. You have a very deep connection with grandparents, family, and all relatives. But some countries are completely lost. Modern technology separates humans from humans. Recently, someone told me about parents going on holiday with a beautiful caravan. It had one bed, a little kitchen, bathroom, toilet. But husband and wife each had separate televisions in this small caravan because the husband wanted to see a football game and the wife wanted to see an opera. See how this technology divides husband and wife. It means the husband has no interest in his wife, and the wife has no interest in her husband. Before, they would sit together at home, having beautiful talks about the family, children, their education, health, where they are going, what they are doing. Now, who cares about children after 12–13 years? Your children say in the evening, "Bye-bye, I go to my friends." And parents think, "Okay, thanks to God, we have freedom." Very rare parents ask children to stay home, to speak and enjoy the family. Be sure, our children will not be treated outside like our children. No one will treat your daughter or son outside like a son or daughter. That is very clear. You know what will happen to children: drug traffic, criminalities, many things. That is called pollution, a social illness. Parents have to look after that. We do not have our desires under control. We do not have control over our feelings, and we do not think of our body. The body has its limitations. Very soon, you will be sure—sorry—that you lost your body. Again, you went nowhere. All that you did will not go with you. Everything you have to leave here. Sab chhodkar chala musafir—the traveler has left everything here. God has given us a chance to realize that eternal truth: God, love. But if there is duality, intolerance, then one will never come to God, and we will never have understood what God is. So first, check your body. Feel your body. Tonight, when you go to sleep, relax. Thank you, God. So nice, this body I have. I'm now with myself. Did you ever feel your body? Have you ever thought about it? God gave you nice fingers, beautiful eyes, hands, legs. You are not poor; you are rich. God gave you everything. Thanks to God, I am alive and I am healthy. Yoga in daily life is for body, mind, and soul, to create harmony in body, mind, and soul. To live in harmony with thyself means automatically living in harmony with the world. Some people try to be negative. They say yoga is not our culture. What is your culture? Do you know? You don't know. Yoga is not our religion. Do you know what your religion is? And if you know, what have you against other religions? Do you know the other religions? What is stupidity? "Our religion and their religion, our faith and your faith"—do not divide people in this way. There is only one religion, only one culture, and that is human culture. There is only one race, and that is humanity. I say the name of God in Hindi language, and you say it in Czech language. Here we are. I say pānī for water, and you say voda. That's all. The language is different, but water is water. That is the truth. Languages are different, but reality is one. Those who understand this will be successful in life. And successful means not business, not political activity, but God-realization. For that, God has given, or Mother Nature has given, or our destiny has given us this beautiful human life. We humans understand, we humans can help, and we humans can realize and know what God is. This is a very little glimpse of the situation and clarity of life. But it is said, everything is nothing without health. But health is also nothing without everything. If the body is here, health is here. If the body is not here, what will health do? So feel thy being in this world a messenger of God, a light of God. You are that light of peace. You are the manifestation of that cosmic Self on this planet. Every kind word, every kind look, every kind help—it is not yours, it is God's. That will bring you to that divine truth. Now we will have some exercises. Many of you know. Yoga has become a subject of human life. Every fourth person in the world practices yoga. Yoga has become the worldwide spiritual culture of human life because everyone can do it. It does not belong to India, nor is it part of any religion. If anything, every religion is a part of yoga. That's why some people are afraid—that if they practice yoga, they will lose their business, the business of politics. We shall come to clarity. We live in the 21st century with modern technology. What happens in Japan, we know within seconds. In old times, when there were wars between kingdoms—between Slovakia and Hungary—war was going on near Szeged, and peace dialogue was here in Humenné. They said, "We shall stop the war." The message took a few days to reach Szeged, so the war continued. But now, anything that happens in the world, we know immediately. We know all cultures. We know the whole world in this little laptop. In this way, modern technology is very good. Therefore, we are no longer the frog in a small pond. Now we are that frog of the endless ocean. You can swim and swim without any borders. That's the world of God. Let's stand up to exercise. Come up, demonstrators. Very good. I just want to wake you up. You are Slovakian? Yes? Do you know how to do yoga? How do you know yoga? Good. Please slowly stretch your hands up, and let your hands hang, fingers relaxed. Feel relaxed. Now, interlock your fingers with your palms towards the ceiling and stretch. Stand on your toes. One and two. This is called the capsule yoga program because many people have no time to practice. They want to swallow the capsule. This is a capsule of energy for the office. To get energy again, imagine you are sitting at your working table, tired. You stand up and do this stretching up and down. Inhale up. Exhale, hands on the head. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Now, stand on your heels. Inhale, up. Only the heels. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Hands behind the neck. Deep inhale. Deep inhale. And exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale, and bend to the left side. Exhale. Left side. Exhale right and look to your left elbow. Inhale in the middle. Exhale left, right elbow. Inhale below. Very good. Hands up and hands down. Inhale up. And exhale. Hands on the table—but you have no table now. In the office, you can have one like this and give the weight to your hands. You can sit on the chair a little down, not completely. Yes, and hands on the thighs. Body straight. Then you look at your computer and you don't understand now. Like this. Go down. I will tell you a story about a computer. Stay like that. Once you start the computer, and suddenly, in the computer, it appears. What was appearing? Up, please. Relax. Thank you. Sit down. Now, if you can sit straight, don't lean on the chair. Sit straight. Knees together, and place your hands on your knees. While sitting, inhale and expand your stomach as much as you can. Exhale and contract your stomach. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale through the stomach, exhale, and continue. Of course, we don't inhale in the stomach, but by controlling the stomach muscles, we expand them. When the stomach expands, our diaphragm goes down more, meaning we take in more oxygen. When we press our stomach again, we exhale more toxins out. This is the secret of prāṇāyāma. There are only three kinds of prāṇāyāma: pūrak (inhale), kumbhak (retention of the breath), and rechak (exhale). So, only three breaths: inhale, retention, exhale, retention. So, pūrak, kumbhak, rechak. 85% of us here have a lack of oxygen in our body. It doesn't matter if you believe in God or not. God said, "I gave you oxygen free. You don't have to pay any tax to me." Take it, but we are not using that oxygen properly. I'm not a doctor. I have zero medical knowledge. But without zero, you can't go above nine. You are stuck on the ninth number. One, two, three, four, five, six, nine. How to go up? You have to make it ten. How? Zero. Without zero, there is no ten. Only nine is not so fine. But when zero comes, then nine goes to the divine. Okay, so, oxygen. Inhale through here and exhale through the nose. It goes so quickly. Now, sitting, some doctors can say how many liters of oxygen we are taking from the air. Healthy lungs—how much can they have? An unhealthy life—how much can they take? We are all sitting here, except for a few, maybe some young kids. Young kids means up to 25 or 30. In India we used to say, "Still you are a child, because the mother's milk still on the lips didn't dry." After 25, okay, you are growing. But nowadays, children lead such an unnatural life. They don't have mother's milk; they have Slovakian goat's milk. Lucky are those who can have mother's milk for at least one and a half or two years. Okay, come on. Hey, no, follow me. That's my problem—you don't follow me. So there's one that's called a follower. Me, follower. Second is a flower, and third is a follower. So who follows, who doesn't follow you? So be a follower, not a follower. So, hey, don't exhale, only inhale. Inhale, nāḍīś, exhale. Rechak, nāḍīś, means exhale. You did pūrak, you see? Don't confuse them. Okay, so pūrak: inhale. Kumbhak: retention. Very good. Veľmi dobré. Many of you don't know. Mnohí z vás nevedia, but many know. Some people, like my age and a little younger, like our minister, know what a locomotive with a coal engine was. When the locomotive was starting—when I used to come to Czechoslovakia and the train started from the Košice direction to Brno—the locomotive started slowly. I said, "This is a prāṇāyāma technique, like this." Yes, that's a locomotive. So this is our locomotive, but in the locomotive, smoke was coming. Then I took a cigarette and I made it. So now, I said, that's wrong. So we did like this. Then came near the Martin train. I was going up to the mountain a little bit again. Came into the tunnel. Going up, then coming down towards Bratislava. Oh, from the mountain up down. Come on, now we clean our lungs, okay? Everyone, we will do this slowly. Sit in Vajrāsana. Inhale with my hand movements, okay? Go ahead. Go ahead. The train is gone. Doors are closed. Go ahead. Ticket controller coming. Passport control. Which station is coming after Košice? Margačany. OK. Station is coming. Prichádza stanica. Inhale. Nádych. And hold the breath. And hold the breath. Red light. Červené svetlo. Yellow light. Žlté svetlo. Green light. Zelené svetlo. Prešov... Oh. Nálepkovce? OK. Nádych. Inhale. Red. Yellow. Whistling. Green. Levoča. Inhale. Levoča is a big station, it seems. The train is stopping so long. Okay, this is red. Yellow. Yellow, green, prapradhā. Nāḍe, inhale; vide, exhale. We want to stay today in prapradhā and go to the high tathra, Jaitra, Jaitra. Now close your eyes and feel your lungs, feel your whole trunk of the body, and even your head and brain are very peaceful. Every morning when you get up, make your journey to a few stations. No doctor will dare to tell you that your blood has little oxygen. Relax. Perfect. Do you feel relaxed? Now it's coming cold winter, and this Bhastrika Prāṇāyāma will keep your body nice and warm. Your hands will always be warm. Your toes will be warm. It means good circulation. Five rounds morning and five rounds evening. Kaṭhūpraṇām. So please, you do it yourself, Kaṭhupraṇām. Kaṭhūprāṇām is one of the best exercises that helps us improve the immune system in the body. There is a beautiful, dynamic movement in the counter postures; it is stretching also, and it is coordinated with the breath. Kathuparaṇam has a few postures which are much better than what we call Sūrya Namaskār. Kathuparanam is first of all this, because you begin with sitting in Vajrāsana. Vajrāsana is very, very important for releasing our stress. Vajrāsana keeps our spine naturally straight, meaning our lungs are widely expanded. Elbows relaxed means shoulders are very relaxed. When the shoulders are relaxed and the body is straight—continue, your duty is to do it; don't stop—and when the shoulders are relaxed and the body is straight, then the stomach muscles are very relaxed. When the stomach muscles are relaxed, automatically your neck muscles are very relaxed. And when the neck muscles are relaxed, then our face muscles are relaxed. And digestion begins to function very nicely. So Vajrāsana is a very beautiful posture with a lot of good effects on our body. And the kāṭuprāṇām, where you are stretching your muscles: once you stretch and once you press together. Both times, when you stretch the muscles, the blood goes away gently. You come together, the blood flows like a flood. When you press together, contracting, then again blood goes out. When you move to the other posture, again, blood flows in. This stopping and flowing of the blood releases blockages, and the muscles get more energy and oxygen, and the muscles feel relaxed. I always give one example. Many of you may not know. Close one fist tightly, come inside, hold it very strong. Now hold your wrist very tight, very tight. Open your palm and look at it. You blocked the blood. Your palm is pale. Look at the palm carefully, and now release the wrist. How do you feel? Different. Let's do it with the right hand too. Close the fist, thumb inside, and hold your wrist tight. Open the palm, look at your pale palm, and now open. Now you feel. Now, hold your fingers like this to each other, about 15–20 cm distance. You still feel like needles on the tip of the fingers. It is like a magnet. You have awoken the dormant energy from your palms and fingers. Your fingers have feelings to come together. Now, ten centimeter distance. Move your hands like this. Does it move? Do you feel? Look, you are putting needles in. Close your palms and rub them. Go ahead, rubbing, rubbing. Go ahead. There is still no fire. Good. Now hold like this, palms. Five centimeter distance, and make very slow movement like this. You feel the pressure? Now go like this. Like needles. Close the fists. Hands down. Dobrý pohyb. Relax. Kānto praṇām. People lie down on the back and relax. So, yoga is designed for the well-being of the human: for their physical, mental, social, and spiritual health. Tons of theory is nothing. Theory comes out of experiences which can inspire us, motivate us, lead us to that practice, and that practice leads us to that realization which theory has been describing. Humans lead life very unnaturally. Nature knows how to control itself. All yoga postures, 99% of them, come from nature. Therefore, yoga is designed for the well-being of humans. If humans are healthy, happy, calm, and clear, then the whole of nature will be well. Nature needs time to recover, and human beings also now need time to recover their health. Yoga in Daily Life is designed especially for Western people. But now, the Western way of life has become the way of life of the whole world. Therefore, yoga presents the ancient wisdom for modern man, for modern times. The ancient wisdom, designed at that time, is and will be forever for the well-being of humans—without differences, without discriminations about culture, religion, or country. It is for your good health, for your well-being. Practice Yoga in Daily Life. It is an authentic system. With this, thank you, and God bless you. Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinaḥ Sarve Santu Nirāmayāḥ Sarve Bhadrāṇi Paśyantu Mā Kaścid Duhkhabhāg Bhavet Om Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ... May all beings be happy. May all be happy in all worlds; no one should suffer, and may I also be happy so that I too do not suffer. I wish all the best to all creatures. Peace, peace... Om Śānti. You can now slowly move your body and sit up. Thank you.
