20 years of Yoga in Daily Life in Slovenia

The Yoga in Daily Life system is a comprehensive science for holistic well-being and spiritual realization. This system, originating from Indian sages, was introduced to Slovenia following a pivotal meeting. It encompasses practices for physical, mental, and social health, aiming for environmental protection, world peace, and interfaith harmony. The teachings are now globally recognized and taught in thousands of locations. The organization runs extensive humanitarian projects from a central intercultural center. In Slovenia, it is practiced by tens of thousands and taught through licensed societies. Practice involves structured stages of exercise, breathwork, and meditation, with specialized programs for various needs. The work extends to educational programs and peace initiatives, grounded in the principle of non-violence.

Twenty years ago, the master of Yoga, His Holiness Vishwaguru Mahāmaṇḍalī Svarparāmkhāns, Swāmī Maheśvarānanda, brought the science of Yoga to Slovenia. A Slovenian couple, Mr. Gal and his wife Zlatka, met Swāmījī for the first time in 1988 at the Post House Hotel in the beautiful mountain resort of Pohorje. In Mr. Gal’s words: "From my first meeting with my master, my life took a different turn toward spiritual experiences and a healthy, positive way of life." The light of Yoga in Daily Life was lit at that time at Pohorje and then spread all over Slovenia. The science of yoga was discovered by Indian sages and given to people for the well-being of the entire planet and the fulfillment of human life. The Yoga in Daily Life system is a science of body, mind, and consciousness, aimed toward physical, mental, social, and spiritual health, the protection of the environment and all creatures, world peace, and tolerance, respect, and understanding among religions, nations, and cultures, as well as spiritual development and God-realization. Swāmījī comes from Rajasthan, India, and is the successor of the spiritual lineage Siddha-Pīṭ-Paramparā of the Himalayas: Śrī Alak Purījī, Śrī Dev Purījī, Śrī Mahāprabhujī, and Hindu Dharmasamrāṭ Paramahaṁsa Śrī Mādhavānandajī, who was the guru of Swāmījī. Swāmījī came to Europe in 1970 and made Vienna, Austria his permanent residence. From there, he travels on official invitations all over Europe, especially to the so-called ex-communist countries, where he now has a large number of disciples and practitioners of Yoga in Daily Life. Swāmījī has also received invitations from different countries in Europe and other parts of the world: Australia, the United States of America, Canada, Africa, and New Zealand. Before long, Swāmījī’s teachings and the system Yoga in Daily Life were recognized as a scientific system. It is now taught in more than 35,000 locations around the world. Besides this, Swāmījī has many other projects. The central one is the very significant and wondrous building of the intercultural center, constructed in the form of the sacred Sanskrit symbol Oṃ. From there, many humanitarian projects are run, including a primary and a secondary school, a college which provides opportunities for free education for children from poor families, a hospital, an asylum for animals, a man-made lake for rainwater harvesting, and a yoga college. In these last 20 years, thousands of Slovenians have become disciples of Swāmījī, and more than 50,000 Slovenians have become practitioners of the system Yoga in Daily Life, which in Slovenia is organized by 11 different societies. In 1997, the Association of Slovenian Yoga Society was founded. It is a member of the International Shri Deep Madhavananda Ashram Fellowship. All these societies have the international license for teaching yoga according to the system Yoga in Daily Life. The life system practice is led by experienced yoga teachers who have passed the exam of the International Association of the Yoga in Daily Life system. Regular practice is organized in semesters and carried out weekly in eight stages. All stages include physical exercise, breathing, relaxation, and meditation techniques, which are described in detail in the book Yoga in Daily Life. This allows practitioners to gradually progress to higher levels according to their abilities. The Yoga in Daily Life system is ancient wisdom designed for modern times. It can be practiced regardless of age, culture, religion, or profession. The Yoga in Daily Life system has developed special exercises and programs, for example, yoga for back pain, joint pain, high blood pressure, diabetes, prenatal yoga, mother and child yoga, yoga for businesspeople, as well as yoga for prisoners. Free exercise classes are held in parks and on beaches in different parts of Slovenia. The goal of regular and specialized practice is to provide the opportunity for as many people as possible to exercise according to their different psycho-physical abilities. From the capital city Ljubljana, and from Maribor, the system was spread to all parts of Slovenia. Parallel to running classes, all yoga centers organize various programs of education, spiritual meetings, satsaṅgs, and, above all, concrete humanitarian projects involving all those who wish to do something good for themselves, for local communities, and for all living beings on our planet. That is why the Yoga in Daily Life system is appreciated and acknowledged at the local and national levels in Slovenia and worldwide. One spiritual principle of yoga is ahiṃsā, non-injury, in thoughts, with words, or with actions. This principle refers to the individual and to the entire world. That is why Swāmījī actively contributes to world peace by organizing world peace summits, which are attended by the highest representatives of different religions, beliefs, states, and nations. In the year 2006, Slovenia had the honor of hosting the fifth World Peace Summit in the Cankarjev Dom. The theme of the conference was, "Peace is in your hands." Swāmījī’s visit to Slovenia in May 2008 is dedicated to spiritual awakening for world peace, because only humans are capable of developing consciously the values of giving, understanding, and forgiving, and above all, giving meaning to their lives by serving. I wish you all the best, good luck, God bless you, your family, your country, and God bless us, the whole world. Om Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ...
