Evening satsang from Strilky

Love unites, while greed and jealousy divide.

Love creates unity, and ignorance creates division. Ego destroys, and jealousy makes the impossible occur. A story illustrates how greed destroys love. Two loving brothers discovered a great treasure of gold. While one went to fetch food, each brother, overtaken by greed and the desire to possess the treasure alone, plotted to kill the other. The returning brother poisoned the food, and the waiting brother planned to shoot him. Both ate the poisoned food and died. The greed for gold acted as a ghost, destroying their bond. When love departs, understanding and wisdom also leave. Satsang teaches love, unity, and wisdom. Bad company breeds anger, jealousy, and hate.

"Love unites, and greed or jealousy divides."

"When love is gone, understanding is gone, the wisdom is gone."

Filming location: Strilky, Czech Republic

Love unites, wisdom removes duality, spirituality brings peace, and the words of the saints bring enlightenment. So love unites, and ignorance divides. Ego destroys, and jealousy makes the impossible. How is it possible that something comes between love so that love is destroyed? There is one beautiful story Gurujī told often about two brothers. The brothers both loved each other very much. Which should be, we say, if there is a brother, it should be like Bharata, the brother of God Rāma. Bhaihoto, Bharat jesā, and if the bhakta like Hanumānjī, because he could open his chest and say, "Look, my God is inside," and if the disciple like Eklavya, in Mahābhārata, you know the name of the one young boy from the tribe’s area, tribes, mountain people. He came to Droṇācārya, and Droṇācārya was the guru of the Gurukul, where all the students of the royal families were getting education. And Droṇācārya was a very great teacher. And he specialized in archery. There were all the Pāṇḍavas, Kauravas, and all these royal families were there. Children. Dronacharya was a Brahmin, a priest. One day, Droṇācārya was sitting in the veranda of his hut and drawing something on the earth with a piece of wood. It’s called the View Chakra. How to attack the enemy and how to occupy the enemy. Great master Droṇa Chārya is there, so he would like to learn archery. He came and he greeted Droṇācārya. Droṇācārya blessed him. And he said, "Yes, boy." He said, "Gurudev, I come to learn from you the archery." Droṇa Chārya said, "What’s your name? From where do you come? What is your family background? Are you from some royal family?" He said, "No, sir." And he replied, "I am not, sir. I am from the mountain tribes. I live in the forest, in the jungle." Droṇācārya replied, "I am sorry. I cannot teach you." "Why, sir?" Because this school, Guru Kul, is only meant for the royal families, the royal children. A young boy, about 16 or 17 years old, was a little bit sad. But he knew that my Gurudev would never refuse me. Guru Kṛpā. Guru Kṛpā, they are very rare disciples who will understand Guru Kṛpā. Eklavya asks Droṇa Chārya, "Guru Devo. Who is this student beside you who was explaining, teaching?" Droṇācārya said, "It’s my son." Thank you. You said it’s only for royals. But you are teaching your son, praṇām. And he went away. When he was going, Droṇācārya smiled graciously. And Eklavya understood that he had already given him the lesson he had to practice. Eklavya went away into the forest and made a statue of Droṇācārya. And now, every day, he’s learning to shoot the arrow, not from his master. Some understood the reflection of the master. Yes, there are some disciples who shoot at the master. Enough. When Eklavya made a mistake, he came to the statue of his Gurudev, bowed down, and said, "Master, forgive me. I will do my best." Look, look, the faith, the confidence, the love. And on the other hand, Droṇācārya in the Mahābhārata declares Arjuna will be one of the best in archery. No one will be like him, so he declared that he’s the best one. Do you know the name of Arjuna? So one day, Master Droṇācārya went with the Pāṇḍavas and Kauravas to the forest somewhere to practice. And so they were all practicing archery. No one knew that about half a kilometer from there, or a kilometer, and the dog went there and was buckling. And Eklavya was feeling disturbed by this dog. What did he do? He took the arrows, and he shot so quickly. When the dog said, "Wah," he peeled so many arrows in the mouth. 30–40 arrows, but not a millimeter. The gums or mouth were injured by the dog. The dog couldn’t close its mouth. It couldn’t open it more. That was the maximum. No blood, nothing, so the dog, full of the mouth with arrows, ran and came back to Droṇācārya. And Droṇācārya looked at the dog, and Arjuna looked at the dog, surprised. Arjuna said to the master, "Master, I thought you declared I am the best one in the world. But who is that guy? How did he shoot so many arrows at once? And the dog was not injured at all. What a masterwork." Dronacharya said, "Let’s go and see, but who is that?" When they were coming, Eklavya was practicing. And he saw Droṇācārya coming with the Pāṇḍavas. Eklavya was so happy. Eklavya was so happy, and he ran to the master and greeted him. Pandu was looking at Eklavya very jealously. And Pandu was thinking, "Who could be another master? Can be greater than Droṇācārya." And Arjuna asked, "Master, how is it possible for such an expert in archery? Who is his guru?" Master said, "Ask, you can ask yourself." So he’s asking, "Friend, who is your guru?" With folded hands, Eklavya said, "Droṇācārya." "Master, you said that your teaching is only for royals." He said, "Yes, the school." Dronacharya said, "Yes, in school. But not the kripa. The knowledge, the blessing is for all. But Arjuna, you will be the best one. Do not be jealous." Just to make peace, and not begin the fight. Droṇācārya said, "Eklavya, who taught you this?" "Yourself, here is your statue." He said, "Yes. You finished your lesson. Now you have to give some bhed to Gurudev, dakṣiṇā. You completed the study. You have to give something. Ready? What do you wish, Master?" Dronacharya said, "I want to have as dakṣiṇā your right hand thumb." What will you do? If Swamījī asks, "I want to have your right hand thumb." That guru, he asked the disciple to cut the thumb. So it’s not easy to be a guru, you know. You see how it’s not easy to be a guru. Before the disciple will give the thumb. Before any disciple would give you the thumb. The disciple will take the thumb of the guru. Therefore, the Guru always keeps the thumb like this. Eklavya took the knife without hesitation, without waiting, because he was proud that he could give to Gurudeva. And he cut his thumb, put it in the banana leaves, and gave the project. It means now, without his thumb, Eklavya was not perfect. Arjuna was happy. Ego. He was happy, and Eklavya was more happy than Arjuna. First, Arjuna is happy. Second, I’m proud that my Gurudev asked me something and I gave it to him. Love. Love unites. Love makes the union, friendship. Arjuna came and he hugged Ekalavya. Arjuna came and picked up the e-keyboard. In the Mahābhārata you can read. But Duryodhana was also the brother of the Pāṇḍavas, a cousin brother. They were fighting each other to kill each other. So, brother Bharata in the Rāmāyaṇa got Rāma’s brother. Not a Duryodhana, Bhakta Hanuman, and disciple Eklavya. So there were two brothers, they were so good, like in two bodies one soul. When they didn’t see each other in the evening, they didn’t eat. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, they ate together. Anywhere they went together, very happy. There was a big, terrible drought, many years no rain. So these two brothers, they were from a Kṣatriya family, warriors, decided to go to some city and work for their family, their wife and children. They were at home in a small village. Both brothers took the camel and both sat on the camel. One went, camel. Riding camels from four o’clock in the morning, they traveled some kilometers. Around three o’clock in the afternoon, they were feeling a little tired and hungry, and Campbell was too. And on the way, a Swami came. And Swami saw the two strong men. "Praṇām Svāmījī." "Young men, warriors, about 30 years old. Swāmījī, we are not afraid of ghosts. We don’t believe in ghosts and so on, but thank you." He said, "I tell you, children, don’t go. That ghost has killed so many people." "Swamiji, we have the gun with us. Our gun is so strong that we will fight the ghost." And they went. Swamiji said, "Rām, Rām, Rām." Škoda. Swamiji went on his way, and they went on their way. After five kilometers, on the left side of the road, were the heaps of golden coins. Sona. Sona key? More. At least 400 kilos or more. And they saw gold. They looked at each other, and they let the camel sit. And each other, they hugged, both brothers. You understand? The clever swami? Tell us, "Don’t go this way," because he went to get transportation. But now, what does he think? This belongs to us. If he comes near, we have the gun. They were riding camels so long, so they were a little bit stiff. So one brother asked, "What should we do now?" And you know what the other one said? Khatu Praṇām. Exercise: Khāṭu Praṇām and Uṣṭra Āsana, Camel. They were sitting and looking at the gold. Elder brother said to the youngest one, "We take time to load the gold on the back of the camel. Let the camel rest also, but we are hungry. So take this one coin and go to the village. Somewhere, definitely, some village, and bring some food to it." So he went with one camel, and he sold the gold. He got a lot of money, and he went to a nice restaurant. And he asked that he wanted to take food away. He said, "No, no, you can eat here." He said, "Okay, I will eat and take away." And from that time, the name everywhere: restaurant rights, take-away food. So, the youngest brother was sitting and eating some food, nice. But all the time, while eating, he was looking, only seeing the gold, hypnotized with gold—500 kilos of gold. This is the greed that creates jealousy, that creates ego, and that destroys love and friendship. No, no. I should not think like this. He closed his eyes. He sees the gold. Doesn’t matter. One day, one has to die. If all this gold belongs to me, I will be very rich. I will be the richest person, but half I have to divide with my brother. Now, my brother, one day we have to die. So he put the poison in the deck of a foot. Bratṛ will eat and peacefully he will make yoga nidrā. I will bury him there, and I will give my sister-in-law a little one-kilo gold. She will be happy. So he put the double poison in the food. Look at the greed, the ego. Can do such thing. Others cannot do. Love will never do: ignorance, hate, jealousy. Because you want to have. Now he’s sitting on the camelback and riding back to the brother. The elderly brother was sitting there and looking at the gold. Gold. My dear gold, my sweet gold. But I had to divide it with my brother. My loving brother, but one day we have to die. The same thought came. Dear brother, I promise you I will take care of your wife. I will give her gold. And I will kill you in such a way you will not feel pain, and was thinking, "When he will come with the food, he will be sitting here. Coming will not be prepared. I will take my gun." Hario, look at the greed, how love goes away when you become greedy for money or position or anything. The other brother thought, "My brother is sitting peacefully, and he will eat and die." As near he came, the elder brother sought him. "Oh, my brother, oh, my brother, oh, my sweet one, but this terrible gold I want. Hungry, but after I will cry, first I will eat." And he begins to eat. While eating, he said, "But I am tired, brother." Hari Om. Died. Both lying beside, dead. And the camels got up and began to eat the trees. Swāmījī came back. And he saw these two beautiful brothers lying on the floor, dead. Swāmījī said, "I told them, ’A ghost is sitting there. Don’t go there.’" He organized the funeral for them and went away. So that is a ghost. The greed is the ghost. You don’t see your mistakes; you see others’ mistakes. You don’t see others’ pain because you want to see only your joy. And there, when love is gone, understanding is gone, the wisdom is gone, vivekā is gone, then distraction comes. Love comes, understanding comes. Viveka comes, the unity comes. So love unites, and greed or jealousy divides. Therefore, satsaṅg is there where we learn to love. Satsaṅg is there where we learn to be together. Satsaṅg is there where we learn to help each other. And satsaṅg is there where we learn wisdom and knowledge and spiritual development. And kusaṅga, a kusa, the company of the police, will speak such words, will create in your heart anger, jealousy, hate. The cause of the troubles is the company of the policeman. Anand kakarem satsang, and the cause of happiness is satsang. jagatabake to baknene. jagatabake to baknene. So there was one question from Vivek Purī from Strilky. His brother is here and would like to have a consultation because of his health and mantra. I would suggest that he should begin with the Sarvahit Āsan. Is Vivek Puri here? Okay, please tell him. There was one question that you like very much your work, but it is too hard, difficult. So, if you should look at the work, job, or not. If you like your work, but it is too demanding, then whether you should continue or not. Not having any work is easy. The best is to be a yoga teacher. So, become a yoga teacher, a yoga teacher in daily life. Three hours a day teaching, and then the rest is free. Three hours teaching, three hours working, practicing yourself, that’s all. Three hours reading. Okay, thank you. There are many questions, so we have to answer the questions. Did you get your prasad? No. You and I didn’t get any. Everybody got prasāda, and we didn’t get any either. Who did not get prasāda? Look, so many didn’t get prasād. Okay, Vivek Purī, come here. This prasad, give a spoonful to those who didn’t get it, okay? We can find here. Yes, question? Dear Swamiji, recently you advised us the book Yoga for Women from Geeta Iyengar, and there it is written that for 72 hours from the beginning of menstruation, no āsanas should be practiced. The same information is also in Āyurveda. Please, could you recommend to us what to do then? Thank you, Amrīdevī, in the time of menstruation. I never got my menstruation, so I can’t tell you. Dear Swamiji, my husband is now on karma yoga in India, in Jadan, and he asked me to ask you a question in his name. During the seminar in Humene, your seminar, he was not at the seminar, but he was doing karma yoga here in Střílky. He was working on the reconstruction of the roof of your house here because they asked him to come, as it was necessary to do. And now he doubts whether it was right, because some yoga brothers told him that it was not right, that he should come to your seminar and not to karma yoga. He feels bad about it, and thank you very much for your answer. I will tell my husband to go to India. Your disciples, Milan and Daska from Martin. He does not read all, just two words. So, Karma Yoga is Karma Yoga, and Seminar is Seminar. Now, what is different? There were two brothers. Very good friends, not brothers, sorry. Good friends. Every day they were going to satsaṅg. One day, while driving, they saw a big poster. Some special film is played in the cinema hall. Only for one day, a limited space. So one friend said, "Let’s go to the cinema today." Others said, "No, I want to go to satsaṅg." He said, "But I want to go to the cinema." So they said, "Okay, you go to the cinema, I go to satsaṅg." Who was in satsaṅg, going home, on the way got an accident. But a little bit, he was hurt. Morning, both friends met together, and one asked, "How was the satsaṅg?" "As usual. Swamiji was telling some stories, but actually I was thinking about cinema. I was sorry that I couldn’t go to the cinema with you. And you know, on the way back, I came, I had an accident. Anyhow, how was the film? I said, ah, nonsense, stupid. Completely opposite to satsaṅg. I closed my eyes, and I was imagining the satsaṅg. And thinking of all my guru brothers and sisters." Yes, question? Dear Swamiji, recently you advised us the book Yoga for Women from Geeta Iyengar, and there it is written that for 72 hours from the beginning of menstruation, no āsanas should be practiced. The same information is also in Āyurveda. Please, could you recommend what we should do then? Thank you. Amṛdevī, in the time of menstruation. I never got my menstruation, so I can’t tell you. Did he do it right when he was at a seminar in Humen? He didn’t attend the seminar, but he was at Karma Yoga in Střílky, where they were doing work on repairing the roof on your house, and they called him to come and help if he could, as it was necessary. He was told by other yoga brothers that it was very inappropriate. You must not read all, just two words. So one friend said, "Let’s go to the cinema today." Others said, "No, I want to go to satsaṅg." He said, "But I want to go to the cinema." So they said, "Okay, you go to the cinema, I go to satsaṅg." And we will meet tomorrow. The man who went to the cinema, after going home, on the way he found a briefcase, or what you call a suitcase, full of dollars and went home. Who was in satsaṅg, going home on the way, got into an accident. But a little bit, he was hurt. In the morning, both friends met together. And one asked, "How was the satsaṅg?" "Yeah, as usual. Swamiji was telling some stories, but actually I was thinking about cinema. I was sure that I couldn’t go to the cinema with you. And you know, on the way back, I came, I had an accident. Anyhow, how was the film? I said, ah, nonsense, stupid. Completely opposite to satsaṅg. I closed my eyes, and I was imagining the satsaṅg. And thinking of all my guru brothers and sisters." And he thought about all his guru-brothers and guru-sisters. And so they both decided to go to the master. Though both brothers decided to, though both friends decided to go to the master. And they went. How to understand? One who went to the cinema, Kusanga, on the way back got a lot of money. And one who went to the satsaṅg, on the way back, had an accident. So you see, the people who don’t believe in God and satsaṅg, they said, you see? You see? Kusaṅga is better than satsaṅg. So they went to the master. Master said, "Sit down." And the master began to meditate. After ten minutes, he said, "The person who was in cinema in his destiny today, yesterday, and then he began that he should become a king. Now, today he’s a president, you can say. But due to the Kusaṅga, he missed his chance. But something has to be given. So he got a credit, just this money, that’s all." The boy who was in the cinema said, "Thank you." Only that much corruption. If I were the president, I would have more corruption. The person who was in satsaṅg had an accident. The master said that those hours were the hours of your death. But due to the satsaṅg, you missed that. So with little injury, it saved your life. So karma yoga you were doing, but also with your thinking, you were in satsaṅg, in seminar. So you have the double benefit: doing karma yoga and, at the same time, thinking about satsaṅg, Gurujī, Swāmījī. Congratulations. In web, I spoke about Satsaṅg’s evening program rules. Last week in Vape, you gave us a program for satsaṅgs, but we did the 7 o’clock first prayer because the children are too late to have prayer, so first we make a prayer. Is this okay? Very okay. Do the first prayer. So the people who are in a hurry, they can go back. The video was first because some people come a little late. Also, I taught the 20-minute lecture. But some people asked if it can be a little longer. Okay, half hour, one hour. But think of all others, if they can dedicate so much time. And good is that every time some different bhaktas learn yoga, teachers learn to speak during satsaṅgs. Pranam Swamiji, will you take us to the Himalaya in 2012? Swamiji, will you take us to the Himalaya in 2012? Why not in 2011? So they would like that I see the bag and to introduce you. So please bring the bag. But what I introduce belongs to me. Okay. There was one more question about schizophrenia. Huh? Schizophrenia patient. Yeah. There is a question about some person who has a little schizophrenia. And sometimes it disturbs another group of people. But, of course, the person is taking medicine. You see, sometimes we have to understand. That person who has some troubles does not do it purposely. So we should give our understanding. Or you have some other kind of program, and you can suggest this person come to the other programs. But if we send away someone, neglect someone, my heart doesn’t allow that. That would be completely, totally against the Ahiṃsā ethic and yoga-led life. But you can make a different program for them. There is someone saying that the mother will have an operation, and to have a successful operation, if you can breathe with her. I don’t think that in the operation theater they will allow you. You must have complete mastery. But you can sit outside and repeat your mantra. Om Prabhu Deep Niranjan Sabduk Bhanja. The prayer will help you more than to breathe with her. I wish and I pray to Mahāprabhujī for a successful operation. So these were the questions. One more about the name Ātampurī. What does it mean? Oh, Ātmā. Not Attak Purī. I thought Attak Purī. Ātmā. So always your consciousness should dwell in the ātmā. That means knowledge, love, understanding, forgiveness. And so on. Any more questions? Okay. So, tomorrow webcasting will be at 9 o’clock. 10:30 is goodbye because of the winter situation. And roads are maybe frozen and so on, that you come on the right time home. People are coming from Hamburg. People came from Hamburg, from far away, from Hungary, from former Yugoslavia, from Germany.
