Part 1: The Energy Fields of Human Consciousness

A spiritual seminar session on the energy fields (kośas) and chakras of human consciousness.

"The cakras are steps or levels of our consciousness, of our existence." "Energy means an element that truly always multiplies... it always wants to expand."

The teacher leads an interactive session, explaining the five energy fields or sheaths—from the physical body (Annamaya Kośa) to the bliss sheath (Ānandamaya Kośa)—and their relationship to the elements and consciousness. He uses metaphors of expansion, pressure, and a boat lost at sea to describe how energy and the mind function, and discusses the principles within the chakras, particularly the Viśuddhi (purification) chakra. The talk includes participant introductions and is followed by a break for meditation.

Filming location: Zurich, Switzerland

And we will come a little later. Dominik, Dr. Günther, and Sandi will be coming a little later. They will see, and then we are probably done for the moment. So, how is everyone doing? I believe we can each imagine a little bit of every name. Can everyone say their own name? In the seminar, we know who says what to whom. Also, in the front row, we all address each other, as mentioned, using the informal "you," okay? One complication is that everyone should imagine. I am Markus from Vienna. Where exactly? Mangalpuri. I am Enigö from Hungary, and I am now living in Zürich for one year. Once again, the name please. Enigö. You can also say Eni, that is simply easier. I am Lade from Montevideo, Uruguay. I live in Switzerland. From where? Uruguay. No. Long way. I am Günther from Hamburg. I am the Indra and I am from Würzburg. I am Jan. And this is Ziri. I am Golda from Australia. I am Roland and come from Hamburg. It is an international seminar. Very good. And so it is, dear God, select from everyone, bring together those who fit where. Were you all at the seminar yesterday? No. A lecture? Yes, but nothing surpasses that in contemplation. I don’t know either, how it was in the lecture—were you there? Last night? Yes. You weren’t there either. I wasn’t there yet. Manufu, were you there too? Yes. Yes, so yesterday we had a very beautiful lecture about cakras. And it is also beautiful because you can repeat everything. And it is also a bit unfortunate, the time, that one repeats to us once again. I have a question before we continue. And indeed, you were not in the word storehouse. Have you engaged with the cakras? Yes, of course I already know what those are. But what the Mūlādhāra Cakra is, I do not know. I don’t know. But the other cakras, yes. Where they are and what they are? Where are they and what, and so on. So approximately... Yes, well. Yes, indeed. Regina? Regina or Regina? Regina. Regina, yes. I don’t know. Haven’t you read anything either? Yes, just a little while ago. So, where they are and... But that is just... And have you been practicing yoga for some time? Yes. Three years. Three years? Yes. And where was yours? In recent years, I have not started any books in Yugoslavia, and then I truly felt as if I were in heaven. I have seen that people are very beautiful and effective to let go of and to experience. And do you want him now in pairs? I am glad that I have now truly come to know him. Next week, so in 14 days, I will be at the seminar in Yugoslavia again anyway. This is a really large group with 800 people. And all 800 are like one person. That is beautiful. Perfectly balanced. That is beautiful. Yes, please. I have known the cakras, but I do not truly know them. I am not asking you at the moment either, Jo. Yes, that is very nice. Irene already knows, and you also already know. Yes, it is like this, I have something. Because you sink deeply within. No, no. Not so strong. No, you need it. I don’t like it. I don’t like it. I do it like this. So, now it’s good. Now I can... No, now it’s good. Now I can breathe. So, we have done very well. Everything we envisioned. We know what cakra is. Who knows nothing about cakra? Absolutely nothing. We are all learned. And now our book would like to reveal the hidden powers of human beings. Can you provide me with the English? Or German? And English as well. To send a few documents. And you have read the Yogic books? Yes, I have both. Ah, the meeting with Jogi. Ah, meeting a master. No. You don’t have the first book? No, well, today I read the Jogaltippe, right? Yes. Ah, there is another book. And in this seminar, I would like to do more exercises, rather than more talking and more emptying. Practice requires certain things, and the most important is a seated posture. I know that for some people it might be difficult to sit for a long time. During the journey, you can step back a little and lean whenever necessary, and so on. Now, the cakras are such; they are steps or levels of our consciousness, of our existence. We come to a mental image. All together, perhaps you can reflect or imagine. And these words, very well-known words, are called the energy field. Now, what is meant by the energy field? That is perhaps also very interesting to know. Where there is energy, energy means vitality. Energy means movement. Where there is no energy, there is no movement. So quickly, let’s say, I feel completely dead, tired, without strength, without energy. And when one has enough strength, one says, I can uproot the trees. I have so much strength and energy. We have already imagined everything. Can you also imagine? This is the General from Prague, the Armilla, and the Bonica from Switzerland. So, energy means an element that truly always multiplies. And when one reads, there is a very well-known origin, a word in, We don’t like it, do it quickly, I won’t, okay? Otherwise, we lose the energy again, you know? Let’s wait again. Are you recording? Oh my God, the whole mess with it, okay? And there is a word that says at the beginning the Creator, who said Ekohaṁ, who says, I am one. The entire universe, that is, all that is divine creation, says Ekohaṁ, I am one. And now I want to break out, to expand, and so from an energy spark or from a core of energy, it begins to move, to stretch, and thus the entire universe is filled with this power, with this energy. And no matter in what form energy is present, it always wants to expand. Our thoughts wish to expand even further, our feelings always want to expand, our existence, we want to expand, in every respect, we want to expand. And now, when the energy is blocked, locked, suppressed, then the energy can be held primarily. The power can be bound, held, and limited. But inwardly this power is not satisfied, and it seeks an opportunity where all the oppressed, all coercion was, now wants to expand again a thousand times faster. Expanding. For example, if I proceed slowly, there is a process, which is one—let us take this card as energy—and in one year, it can expand up to 50 meters, but it is locked with pressure. And when an opportunity arises, one will expand so quickly and within seconds, they will try to extend 50 meters away, to reach there. And indeed with an extra energy that is developed within, extra. And this is also, for example, like a bomb, a bomb that is inserted with pressure, pressure applied with a force. And inside there is power. And when the bomb is there, but inwardly within the bomb the energy, which is conscious—because energy also has consciousness—is seeking an opportunity. And this opportunity would then be an explosion. And if everything inside the bomb is just a handful of things, if they are simply exposed, then it no longer has the power, no pressure left to contain it further there. But hardly any opportunity arises where one surrenders a little deeper, or an extra strike comes, or is ignited, or any other technique they have, then it explodes. And what exploded was inside. This energy was inside. And now it has generated extra power within itself to explode. And so, energy fields, for me, mean that there is a soul, and the soul is our Self, our Ātma, the divine Self that is within us. And the divine Self is energy. And it constantly generates energy; it wants to multiply itself. Now, to multiply here means he does not want to be in many parts; he wants to be one. One, but everywhere. And now, this Self has a principle. And this principle is the universe principle. And it wishes to cross boundaries. He would like to come outside of this principle, but cannot. Why? Because there are different rules. And these rules must not be disregarded. And that is in the first energy field, which is called our physical energy, bodily energy, bioenergy. And this bioenergy is always referred to in the Vedas, that is, in the yoga texts, as the body of food. So, a food body. And here, in the food, it means everything of the solid energy that we put into this energy field. As much as this energy is also a very strong bioenergy, it is a very powerful energy, but it is limited. It may be limited within this body alone, or it may be limited to such an extent that I cannot feel it. When someone enters, an energy field enters as well. Sometimes the door opens and it comes in, that is energy, a flood, energy flows in, very strong. Very strong. Then, where the bioenergy field ends, the second vision begins, that is, the second energy field. And the second energy field is called prāṇa energy. So now, the prāṇa energy is a subtle emanation from your physical body. A subtle aura, or it can also be a negative aura. But it is the power that is drawn from the universe through your existence. This is called prāṇa energy. The prāṇa energy can be very vast. You can extend your prāṇa energy thousands of kilometers. You only need to hold your heart, and the power flows. The strongest energy, the prāṇa energy, usually flows through the surfaces of our heart. And when you place a hand on the body somewhere, then you feel. And so it is also in the spirit twins, also in the holy images one sees how the master gives a blessing to the disciple. Because from here, prāṇa energy then flows. Prāṇa can also be explained as, one might say, the radiance or, how does one say, auras as it is said in some languages. The prāṇa field is so strong that your prāṇa energy extends as far as you personally know someone. Do you understand me? What do I mean? That is it. I have also seen all the faces, and that has remained. Now, my prāṇa energy, let’s say for example, is now going to Jan. And now, Jan is traveling to Australia. And when he sees my image or thinks of me, or I think of him, my prāṇa energy reaches all the way there. So he is the second instrument, and I am a second instrument. And it is like two radios. So if he knows that my frequency is in the wavelength, then he can receive me or he can receive me. And I can receive it. But because he does not know me, not at all, and he receives my wavelength there, He will not be able to feel himself very much because he knows my bioenergy. And through my bioenergy, he recognizes my prāṇa energy, so that I transcend the second energy, or the second perspective. And now comes the third energy field. And the third energy field is a force even stronger and longer-lasting than our bio-energy fields and these prāṇa energy fields. And that is called the mind, the Mental Power. And the mental power, it goes very far, it is almost infinite for us to say, we see no limit. The strong power is the Mental Power. And within this Mental Power resides a second force, which is called willpower. Regarding the mental view, energy is also all around us; it is a perspective, a Māyākośa. And then comes the fourth field of energy, which is called Vijñāna Māyākośa. So Vijñāna, in Sanskrit Vijñāna means the essence of knowledge. And science is connected with the intellect. And here intellect means the place where things become clear. When things are clear, it means your mind, your intellect, works very well and informs you, provides information. And you can present and express yourself very clearly. And that is the power of the mind. You can extend and reach the power of the mind very far with the intellect. And there, we can say, there is a principle in this mental realm. And this principle is called willpower. Will begins when your intellect functions. If you have no will, then you are without the joy of life. You have no joy for life at all, and you do not want to eat, you have no will to eat, no will to walk, no will to speak, and you also have no will to live. Why? Because the mind has become lost. Yesterday I explained something about the mind and the state. So the state is such that it then leaps into this world of energy, I would say. It is the mind of all of us, it is our mind that creates a certain state, whether it is a director, a manager, a director, or a housewife, or doing any kind of work, or having any state—physically, mentally, spiritually, professionally, or socially, everything, it was caused by his own mind, the state. Because one says, I have absolutely no time, I have to work a lot. God has not forced you to work so much. But you, having brought yourself into this state through your mind, you must work. And if the state goes too far, then what happens? The mind will no longer be responsible. But your inner will is always the will to be responsible. You want to do it, but your mind no longer wants to cooperate. This means now, your energy is absent, your Self is in this state, but your mind has left you. That means, one could say, one has lost their mind. So it is a boat that has carried you far away into the lake or the ocean, into the sea. And now a storm came, and the high waves, and the boat is no longer able to bring you back to the shore. And even if you lose this boat, it capsizes, and now you are simply in the water without a boat. Well, that does not mean that you are still in this state. No, in this situation. You are inside the situation, but you have lost your boat. You stand there. You have the will to emerge from the state of knowledge, but you cannot. Why? Because your boat is gone. And so one falls into the ocean of emotion or state, and then the mind no longer wants to cooperate; the mind feels irresponsible, and you stand there, not knowing what help you need or what you can do in your life. So, this is the fourth energy field, called Vijñāna Māyākośa, indirectly, clarity. Part 2: The Five Sheaths and the Dance of Elements Clarity is very important. Now we come to the fifth field of energy, called the Ānandamaya Kośa. "Ānanda" has two meanings: a feeling of bliss or pleasure. Where the word "pleasure" arises, it corresponds more to your mental and your causal or energy field—your bio-energy field, mental field, and your Vijñānamaya Kośa and Ānandamaya Kośa. This means the final energy field is such that the will gives you a feeling again, transmits a feeling, so that your other types of energy fields do not become too wild and thus can become infinite. Here, Ānanda Māyā Kośa signifies blissful feelings, that is, longing. We have many kinds of longings within us. Every longing—it is interesting what is coming now here—is not bad; it is very good. We feel, we enjoy, we experience, we realize. But any kind of fulfillment for your longing means that you have once again intensified exactly this perception of your energy. Do you understand what I mean? No, you don’t. Not passed. So now we come to our bio-energy, our body. We have a physical sensation. We want to do something physical. This now means that our true engagement is directed towards the body. That means the inner Self, the divine Self, the one of far-reaching projection, has no opportunity to expand further. It must withdraw. So, it stretches and contracts again. And when you contract, it becomes dense. So it stretches a little thinner and thinner. This means it brings you back to this energy field, and that is the Ānandamaya Kośa, which brings you back to your inner self within your energy field, so that you cannot be separated from this energy field. These are the five different types of energy fields; some call them bodies: the physical body, mental body, causal body, intellectual body, and... which are the causal body, the mental body, the intellectual body, and this body, the physical body. Now, everything we have done in our life here has left a mark or has caused an effect or a certain vibration in our energy field. All of this has become, as mentioned, karma for us. So karma, what we always speak of, is nothing but gross matter; rather, karma are the vibrations. These vibrations can be like your feeling. These vibrations can be like, how do you say, happiness and misfortune. One is in such vibrations, which means we return once again to the word "state." Whether you notice it or not, one must never fail to notice the state. Often, when you believe you are doing very well and you are happy and you want to do exactly that, and when you have done that, then something happens and you say, "Oh God, I was too envious and inattentive," and an accident occurs. Before it was beautiful, but suddenly an accident happened. That means you were not yet aware of the state, of your energy fluctuations, and of where this vibration will guide you. These are the different vibrations. This vibration carries our soul back and forth throughout the entire universe. A small boat floats on the Wesel, drifting from one shore to the other. That is very interesting. On a shore where there is water, one sees a small weasel, and there lies a boat or a piece of wood. Then every wave comes and drives the wood to the shore and back in again, to the shore and back in again. And so is our state. We manifest in this world and then we depart, and again we manifest and again we depart. There are certain key points that serve as specific stations for each energy field. When one can control these situations and perceive them consciously, that means understanding. Chakra cleansing does not mean using sausages on water and grinding or with air bubbles or a trident, but cleansing means understanding. However, we can only understand when we have made ourselves clear. I have a book here, and it is in my language, the language you understand. So nevertheless, this book is in your hands, but you cannot find a solution or benefit, nor gain wisdom, because you do not understand it. So it often is in our lives that we focus on many, many things, but we do not understand them. We do things daily with open eyes, with open ears, with an open heart, with an open mind, but sometimes perhaps we do not truly do them. For those who have not understood and have worked with their chakras, there is a beautiful image in this book of the prāṇa-body, that is, the image of the prāṇa-body, the energy fields, showing how energy begins to flow into the human body and then flows out again. In this image, almost everyone fasts; in the book, we will find—and there are the stages. These stages are very important for our soul to be liberated or reunited with God. And here it means Zakat. Now, the five bodies, or five fields, can be understood as five elements. Each element possesses a powerful force. We should not think that there are elements that are weak. Earth elements are very strong. Thank God that we live above the Earth. We humans are so clever, because all living beings know that if a large part of the Earth rolls over, then we run away so that it does not burn us as well. But when there is a great sandstorm, people must run away and say, the sand is coming so much, the whole body can be covered in sand. Earthquakes. And so many, many things—the Earth is indeed beautiful, but we must feel and be cautious. Then comes the water element. We know that without water, we cannot live. Our life, the system on this planet is very strong; that is to say, blood planets, water planets. But the water element is so powerful; we know how dangerous water can be, whether it is a flood, heavy rain, or even no rain at all. Through this, we have also learned that living beings, even plants, have an automatic system that they only take as much liquid as they need. Then they have an automatic slit valve. When there is too much, then it is no longer. That is enough. And if there is little, then it takes more. So it is with the fire element as well. We know that we humans are very cautious. But when the fire breaks out, one does not know what it is like. The whole house is engulfed in flames within a few minutes. Sometimes, we may try to make a fire, we succeed, and then we don’t, and then we have no more matches, and one freezes in the forest. But when the fire element wants to multiply, and suddenly this opportunity arises, it multiplies with such power that, as mentioned, the rocks fly away, such a strong force. It is incredible that such good hotels have been built, using such skilled engineers and such fine materials. Fire safety, this security. But when fire comes to the small pieces, then the whole hotel is burned down. So we know, without fire nothing can exist. But dear God has built such an automatic thermostat into us, so that our body maintains a certain temperature. It regulates automatically. When it is too much, then we say we have a fever, we are sick. Too little is not good either. So, we deal with measure. We live in the five elements. All these five elements are within this karma. We have liquid, we have earth, that is, the flesh of forces, and we have fire elements, warmth, and we have air elements. We must always breathe. And now there is air. We know that the air element is a very powerful element. It can destroy everything, it can tear everything apart, but we have such beautiful control that we only breathe as much as we do, both in exhaling and inhaling. We take only as much as we need, and we should also possess it. Yes, the most important element in some cultures is not recognized at all, and that is space. If space were not there, then no element could exist. When there is a lack of space, then every element becomes aggressive. So again, we come back to the starting point: the energy becomes so aggressive and wants to expand, to leap, like an explosive. So, thank God, space is infinite. Space is so infinite, and space is both outside and inside our body as well. Thank God, we have many parts in our body where there is emptiness, so that blood can flow, breath can pass through, energy can flow, food can pass through, and fluids can pass through everything, and that will be regulated automatically. All five elements are very important, and in yoga it is said that the Mūlādhāra Cakra, the root chakra, is the earth element. Earth is very important. We live here, we say Mother Earth, we receive nourishment from the Earth, and our life is from the Earth. It is said, you are the essence of the Earth. Svādhiṣṭhāna Cakra is the water element. Maṇipūra Cakra is the fire element. Anāhata is the element of air. Air means movement. We can only move properly because of air. Our skin, sparsha, is an element, belonging to the air element, the sense of touch. We have five, and these are the skin’s senses; touch can only occur if air is present. If there is no air, you cannot touch yourself, you cannot come closer. Nothing works there. There is no attraction. That is the element of air, which makes it possible for an attractive force to exist. And secondly, of course, the spatiality of the eyes is important. The fifth element in these chakras is called the ether element, the space. The space purifies. What does purification mean here? Nothing purifies. Nothing purifies except space. What does it mean to cleanse the space here? It means a small spot of dirt. So many parts are divided, barely noticeable. But it is only shared because there is space. So one day, this body will begin to dissolve. This matter dissolves again far away into infinity. So you do not see at all with these eyes, you cannot even grasp it because it is so finely divided. Therefore, Viśuddhi. This cakra, "Viṣa" means poison and "Śuddhi" means purification. So all psychological problems, what one has suppressed, one says, or one says, "I can no longer suppress," or everything is happening here. Some people say, mostly women, it was for me, I have like a lump fixed here. As no man has told me this before, please. Perhaps you say today, then next week I will say, as men have told me. I mean, I am not against them, women, men, but I ask, why? Women are currently very interesting beings because they are pure. Women are purer than men. And women are softer. That means the flexibility gives way. But if it is too much, then it becomes tense. So this Viśuddhi Cakra is the element that purifies everything, but sometimes, when it becomes too much, the mind disappears again. But the state remains. And if only the state remains and the mind is not present, then it is a problem. One cannot resolve, one cannot purify, one cannot move forward. What I mean here, women or men, I did not mean physical bodies. There are two principles. These are the principles that constantly draw the positive and the negative within us. So we say negative is masculine and positive is feminine. Okay? Is that what one says? More or less. So, we say the positive is feminine and the negative is masculine. This feminine power, which is positive, can no longer act further because it is negative. So the state cannot be sustained or controlled because the mind is not present. When I do the meditation later today, much will arise in each of you. It means many states will become clear to you. So many states become clear, but the one who enters little into the energy field, or we are inside the energy field, but I mean, the one who can perceive it. What I have explained to you, perhaps it is too little. Only the Self can truly be understood. Therefore, let your energy field continue to expand into infinity, so that it is divided into so many parts that you can hardly perceive it then. And you are free. Or when you reach that point, many memories arise, many feelings come up, many thoughts emerge. Many things from our previous life resurface again. The Mūlādhāra Cakra is actually the cakra that most often brings up things from past lives. You have all had very beautiful early lives. Damn it, this life has become a little different. So be happy that your past lives, your previous life was so beautiful. Today we say, our Mūlādhāra Cakra, which vibrations have remained from past lives. Good. Then we will continue with Mūlādhāra Cakra again. So then, adio. I must also introduce some people to you. Petra means Prakāś, that is, light from Hamburg. In terms of time, Petra can always be sunshine in Hamburg. Then we have here a Shanti, which every Yogi thinks of at the beginning and at the end of meditation. She is actually a Viennese, from Vienna, a very advanced yoga student and a very dedicated collaborator for the Vienna Yoga Society, so we were able to have her here with us, thanks to the help of many Viennese students, including those from Mangalpuri. He is an active participant in the jail tours, mostly in India. He works at the Yoga Center. I wanted to introduce you to the two of them. Has anyone else arrived? The General had introduced himself, and Mrs. Annika had introduced herself. So now I would like to take a 10-minute break. For everyone who, how do you say, what is it, to blow, is also said to empty out. Because meditation becomes...
