The Earth of Sandalwood

The earth and people of this land are sacred, infused with divine presence. Every child embodies the divine, and life's ideal is seeing every place as the abode of the Supreme. Your true nature is the cosmic Self, resting in the lap of the infinite. You have a universal right to contentment and joy, but the fleeting joys of the world bring subsequent sorrow. True peace is found within, at the source. The mind, however, is disturbed by countless thoughts, or vṛttis, like waves on a peaceful lake. Patañjali's yoga teaches the cessation of these mental fluctuations, which is more challenging now than in ancient times. You must accept three laws: cosmic, natural, and societal. Acceptance of natural change, like aging, is key to peace. Meditation provides strength to face life's inevitable truths and hardships, which are hard to digest. Theoretical knowledge of being the immortal Self is not enough; practical realization, which removes all fear, is the goal. Until then, follow the devotional path, using mantra and guidance. Shift self-inquiry from "Who am I?" to "How am I?" to purify your behavior and qualities.

"Your true nature, your true nature is that cosmic Self residing in the Ananta, in the endless, in the cosmic mother’s lap."

"Therefore, don’t fly too high. Try to stay. The devotional way, Bhakti Yoga, is beautiful."

The earth of this country is made of sandalwood. The land of this country is made of sandalwood. Every child is a statue of this country. Every human being is a helper of this temple. Jaha siṅgh ban gahe, gāye jahāṁ pyārī hai, Jahāṁ savera śaṅkh bajātā, lorī gātī śām hai. Har balā-devī kī pratimā, bachchā bachchā rām hai. Every child is Rām. Where its soldiers on the battlefield sing the Gītā, where Sītā plays beneath the plough in the fields. Where the ideal of life is that every place is the abode of Parameśvara. Har balā-devī kī pratimā, bachchā bachchā rām hai. Bachchā bachchā rām jahāṁ karma se bhāj badalte, Śrama-niṣṭhā kalyāṇī hai. Tyāga aura tapa kī gāthā gātī kavī kī vāṇī hai. Jñāna jahāṁ kā gaṅgā-jalsā nirmala hai, abhirāma hai. Har balā-pratimā, bachchā bachchā rām hai. Every child is Rām, the sandalwood. The soil of this country is a land of austerity; every village is a place of penance. We are the essence, the origin of that cosmic one which is residing. He created something, and now it is already moving many things. The main part of him is again resting. Time to time, he gets up and then again looks. And we are all moving round and round. So your true nature, your true nature is that cosmic Self residing in the Ananta, in the endless, in the cosmic mother’s lap, Ananta. And therefore, it is said that you have the right to be content. Love, happiness, contentment, peace, joy. These are the universal principles. These are not some religious principles. No one has copyrights on this. No religion can say that we have copyrights, that our religion is a religion of love. Yes, you can be a religion of love, but love is the universal love. Contentment is a universal contentment. Joy, everyone has the right to have joy, and when you are enjoying something, then you are perhaps near to that cosmic Self. But that enjoyment is different than we think the joy. That joy which we think we enjoy is a little joy, but the sorrows of that joy which we will not enjoy after, why? You will be sorry about that. So the true joy, true rest is in your mother’s lap, my dear one. That is your inner mother, your cosmic mother, your divine mother, and you can realize that through meditation. But that naughty child, that restless child, that spoiled child, that greedy child, that child full of jealousy and full of complexes, is running here and there. And that merciful mother, that kind mother, that gracious mother, she gave. He has so much space, the consciousness expanding and expanding, and we have day by day, day by day, more and more thoughts, and that’s called citta-vṛtti. So the space, my mummy, the mother, she gives you enough space, but we have filled it. Filled it so much, there’s a stress. And vṛtti means the different kinds of thoughts. It’s very hard for us to think one thing, and especially when you meditate, that "I want to meditate now," then you are thinking, "There are mosquitoes." Oh, birds are very beautiful, singing. Today is hot. I am so happy to be at home. In half an hour, I have to go to the office. Before going to the office, I must put petrol in my car. But first I must meditate. There are so many useless thoughts coming: shopping, going shopping here, going there, in thinking. This is called vṛttis. So, your consciousness is a peaceful lake, a beautiful, peaceful lake or a pond, a very peaceful pond. And you are sitting near the pond, and you take one stone and throw it in the water. What will you see? Waves. But not only one wave, many. It will become a beautiful city. So one day I was thinking, from where did this shitty idea come? Very nice, exactly. And before there was record, gramophone. So there was also a round record. So this is coming, these waves of the lake or the pond. So your consciousness is a peaceful, beautiful lake. And suddenly, some thought comes in your mind. Bang! And behave one after the other. Okay, you have no more thoughts. You are very peaceful, very happy, meditating, and you are doing your mantras, very peaceful. And your neighbor’s dog comes and goes. Always, when I meditate, my... always this dog is bugging. So this is called citta-vṛtti. Dear friends, these kinds of vṛttis we can stop. We can have an autobox, we can close our ears so that we will not hear the dog, we will not hear the cars, and so on. But how will you close your inner ears? There is a problem with your boyfriend, girls. How will you block that? Or your girlfriend, or with your father or mother, or somebody. Many, many prathis. Because you are dependent on this. So, Patañjali speaks in his yoga school. First, he said discipline. Atha yogānuśāsanam. Discipline is very important. And secondly, he said, "Yogaḥ citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ." Through practicing yoga, you should control your vṛttis, the thinking process. Now, for him, it was easier to say, because at that time there was no mobile telephone, there were no televisions, there were no emails, there were not so many of these problems which we have now. Patañjali was before Christ, and at that time, life was a happy life. Sydney was not existing at that time. But now the vṛttis are so many problems, and it’s not so easy. But meditation will give us that kind of relaxation and the possibility to calm ourselves down and understand. In this, we have to understand three things. The cosmic law, the natural law, and the country law. If you go against these three laws, then the law will punish you. The cosmic law, you cannot go against it. You have to accept it. Natural law, you have to accept it. Even if you don’t want to become old, you are getting older day by day, and you must accept it. If you accept it or not, it is happening. So, why are you unhappy? Accept it. Dear friends, it is not easy to get grey hair, real grey hair, not colored. It needs many, many life experiences, many, many experiences in life to get the grey hair. Be proud of yourself that finally you are successful, that you got the grey hair. Celebrate the days that you succeeded. So your successful days don’t make them dark again with the dark colors, making dark your hair. That is a dignity for you. Oh, you came through this wild water, this wild river you came through. How many experiences you have in your life? Now you are calm, peaceful. Your dreams, your life are peaceful. Your sleep is peaceful. Accept the nature. Your teeth are falling out. It’s okay. Accept it. Go to the dentist. Take it, something more new, and eat slowly. Don’t bite so quickly. Accept it. So we have to accept the nature, how the nature, mother nature, is working. When the sun is rising, definitely the sun will set. So who is born will die, and who died will be born. So meditation, self-inquiry, step by step, is very important in your yoga book, yoga and daily life book. We have written very clearly, and in everyday practice in meditation, try to understand the situation of life, because every day is not the same situation. And I tell you, it’s not easy. Yes, it’s not easy. Because, dear friends, truth is not easy to digest. Our digestive system is still not good enough to digest the truth. When the truth comes to you, oh God, you will be confused. You will be jealous, you will be angry, you will be sad, you will be nervous, you will be disappointed, and what not. Because you are not able to digest the truth. And we are mortal beings living in this mortal world, and in this mortal world, every day good and bad things happen. So we cannot say that now we will be every day in divine consciousness. Yes, I wish you, but someday some problem can happen. Suddenly, your mother died. Of course, you cannot be happy in divine consciousness. You are unhappy because your mother died or your father died, and so like this. So these things we have to expect in life. Be prepared for this, because this truth we cannot digest. God may give us strength to stand through and overcome this, so. Meditation will give us the strength, so meditation is the way. Meditation is asking. Meditation is not only that "Who am I?" Many we are mostly asking "So’ham." "So" means that, "ham" means I. That Brahman, supreme, "I" means me. I am that, and that I am. I am Brahman, and Brahman is me. It’s very easy to say: I am immortal, I am not born, and I will not die. I am Sat-Cit-Ānanda. Everything is beautiful for preaching, but reality is different. You will not die. You are immortal. And now a wild tiger jumps in this room. What happens to these immortals who are sitting here? Please. I think we have to catch these beams. Beams, there is a wooden beam. Girls, it is not strong enough, okay? What is the immortal one doing? Searching for the emergency exit. That is the difference. So there are two kinds of horses. One horse is in your field, in your farmhouse or on your farm, grazing there. And the second horse is on the wall, hanging as a picture. Both are horses. Now, if you want to ride, you can only ride the real horse, not the horse which is hanging on the wall. Therefore, it is easy to say, "Ahaṁ brahmāsmi," I am the supreme, I am that, I am that one, I am immortal ātmā. Oh, beautiful. What to do with you? What to do with you? Therefore, don’t fly too high. Try to stay. The devotional way, Bhakti Yoga, is beautiful. Kaliyuga kevala nāma ādhāra. Kaliyuga kevala nāma ādhāra. Sumīra sumīra nara ho’i bhava pāra. In this Kaliyuga, O human, while repeating the name of God, you can cross the ocean of ignorance, this worldly ocean. Your mantra is very important. Devotion. So we need this physical mother now. We need a mother whom we can embrace, a mother whom we can see. We still need this mother because we are in physical form. So we need the spiritual master; we need that one to whom we can direct our feelings, our thoughts, our questions, and who can guide us, lead us, and explain to us. And therefore, it is important to think, "I am the immortal one." Yes, you are, your Self. The real Self is that Self, but you know it theoretically only. Practically, you still don’t know. And when you know practically, then you will not have fear at all. On the day when you will have no fear at all from the snake, from the tiger, from the spider—my God, spider! When a small spider comes in, sleeping, you know, I often see the people begin screaming. I say, what happened? A small spider. I say, don’t worry, that is not Australian. Fear. On the day when there is no fear, no jealousy, no anger, no greediness. No sadness, only peace. So these are the points to get. Yes, when you are in reality, then you are nearer to that Supreme One. Before that, please remain down. Otherwise, if you fall from a high place, you will feel more pain. So, self-inquiry meditation, not "Who am I?" but "How am I?" Am I a good person or a bad person? What do I have to correct in myself? Is my behavior towards others good or bad? I am a selfish one. Am I an angry one? How is my behavior in my society to other people, to the other creatures? There are many, many things. What disturbs others that I have, and how to purify those qualities, and at the same time, how to find myself, so that finally, after a long, long life, after enjoying a healthy, happy, and long life, finally I come to the cosmic supreme one. Then his meditation is successful.
