Self is happiness

The sense of life is to become happy and free from past suffering and karma. Satsaṅg is the best way to attain this peace. Our inner self, which seeks happiness, is a part of God. We often search for this self externally, but it cannot be found that way. To understand God and oneself, one must attend satsaṅg and study the scriptures. Yoga is the union of the self with the Cosmic Self. All who take physical form, even God, must endure certain sufferings according to cosmic law. We are here due to our karma, while God incarnates by free decision, yet He too must accept difficulties, sometimes due to curses. Even a great devotee like Nārada once cursed Viṣṇu, causing Him to incarnate again. This occurs when one's intellect becomes confused. We must always pray for positive intellect.

"If the self is searching for the self somewhere, we will never find it anywhere."

"The difference between us and God is that we came to the world because of our karma, and He came according to His own decision."

The sense of life is to become happy and successful, to overcome all the suffering of past lives, and to become free from karmas. To attain peace from all three tapās, satsaṅg is the best way. Satsaṅg is the best way to do this. One should listen to the satsaṅg and accept its words in one's life. Now, in Kali Yuga, many things are possible, but what is rare is true satsaṅg. How lucky we are that we are having satsaṅg here, in this beautiful place, under the trees, in this beautiful weather. We are very happy that we can have satsaṅg here at such a beautiful time. These pictures and words of wisdom will remain forever in your consciousness. Every creature likes to be happy, and we also would like to be happy. What is in us which would like to be happy? Did you ever think over or ask yourself what it would be like to be happy in you? Who feels happiness in us, and who feels unhappiness in us? There must be someone within us who likes to be happy, and that is our real self. Not our body, not our mind, not our desires, not our consciousness, but our very real self. That real self is a part of God. And God means happiness. The quality, or the nature, or the principles of God, mean happiness. That’s why our inner self also would like to be happy, because our inner self is a part of God. What is living in all creatures, which would like to be always happy, is a part of God. Other creatures are not aware of this, but humans are more aware. Though humans are aware, they still have no self-knowledge. Sometimes it seems very funny that the self is searching for the self, that I am searching for myself. If the self is searching for the self somewhere, we will never find it anywhere. The Self can only find itself if it is in two parts somewhere. So you will not find the Self if that Self is searching somewhere else. And you will not find yourself until you search for yourself. The other part of our self is God. And that God is also very different and difficult to realize and accept, that that is God. In order to understand God and oneself, we have to go to satsaṅg. In order to understand God and oneself, we have to look into the holy scriptures. These holy scriptures are known as dharmaśāstras. Śāstra means where the truth is described. That is śāstra. Śāstra means where the thousands of names of God are described. And dharma means the dharmas are described; there are duties. Even the best is when you put a picture down on the table. And this we can learn in the satsaṅgs. We come to yoga. We have begun our yoga path. We are practitioners of yoga. We are yogis, and we found something in this. So, what do we understand now? What is yoga? You are not here only for physical exercises, and that’s not all yoga. Yoga means union, which unites our self to the Cosmic Self, which unites our thoughts with the Cosmic One, our feelings with the Supreme. We should make ourselves happy, we should liberate ourselves. We should bring ourselves into the light. We should bring ourselves to God. So what we are doing, this satsaṅg, is a part of yoga. With such a feeling of freedom, you believe in God in that form and in that way which allows your heart in the believing. We should be free. We are bound to many things, but where the question of God comes, there should be freedom and happiness. The human mind is very complicated. It is educated in different ways: in different languages, cultures, traditions. Human intellect became very complicated. There are very hard situations in the human mind: to accept or not to accept, to become or not to become. Because humans have lost the reality. You will know the truth, and then there will be no arguments. So, because of the attitude and because of human behavior and human desires, God also has to come and give us again the right way. The cosmic law is this: it doesn’t matter who you are, whoever manifests in physical form has to go through certain suffering. God’s law or cosmic law is the following. If someone incarnates, then he must go through certain sufferings, through certain events. The body has its Dharma. Dharma, the Dharma of the body is to be born, to grow, and to die. And when you have to walk through a coal mine, then definitely there will be some black spots. So it doesn’t matter if it is a normal person or God incarnate, they have to go through certain difficulties. The difference between God and us is this: we came according to our karma in this world, and God comes with His free decision. The difference between us and God is that we came to the world because of our karma, and He came according to His own decision. Though He has a free decision, He still has to accept certain things. And for that purpose, for that reason, God has to incarnate time to time. We spoke yesterday very much about scarcity. The curse, which is the most terrible thing. God protect us from those curses. The curse can also attack God Himself. And He has to accept also. No one gives a curse without any reason. Sometimes God does something purposely because He knows there is no other way out. Though He has to suffer for some time, He has to do it. So, though He did it purposely, and He knows what He is doing and why He is doing it, and that’s why He is also ready to accept that He did it, and for that reason He had to suffer. So, we knew from past lessons why God was incarnated. Now, the wise Yājñavalkya says to Ṛṣi Bharadvāja, "Listen, there was also one curse which was given to Viṣṇu by Nārada." The ṛṣi Yājñavalkya said to ṛṣi Bhāradvāja that once Nārada also gave a curse to God Viṣṇu. And that’s why Viṣṇu had to incarnate again for that reason. So there are many, many reasons why God incarnates. If you follow and remember this Rāmāyaṇa, what I’m reading, it is where it was spoken in Bharadvāja Āśram. Once, Nārada gave this curse to the god Viṣṇu. And that was also the reason that God had to incarnate again. While listening to the words of Lord Śiva, Pārvatī was full of devotion, very happy. She had her heart full of devotion to God Viṣṇu. Overwhelmed. Happy. And as she heard this, it was like throwing a big stone onto the rock in the peaceful lake. She said, "Nārada gave the curse to Viṣṇu." Nārada is a great, great bhakta, devotee of Viṣṇu. Nārada is a wise one and a great devotee of Viṣṇu. How is it possible that Nārada gave the curse to Lord Viṣṇu? No, this is not possible. We can believe everything. Therefore, Pārvatī said, "Kāraṇa-kavana-śrāpa-munni-dīnā kāya-parādharamā-patikīnā ye prasaṅgamohi kaha umurāpūrārī munimannamo ācarajabhārī." Why? Why? Why? What was the reason? Why did Nārada give the curse to God Viṣṇu? The Lord of Lakṣmī. The Lord of Lakṣmī, God Viṣṇu. What mistake has He done? What has God done that Nārada gave Him the curse? It’s not believable. Oh Lord Śiva, I am very surprised. Tell me the story, or the reason for which sake Nārada lost his knowledge and he gave the curse to Viṣṇu. It is surprising. Tell me. Tell me the whole story, because I can’t believe. Lord, be merciful to me. Suddenly, I lost my inner peace. Suddenly, I lost my inner confidence. My vṛttis begin to boil. Nārada, give the curse to God, to Viṣṇu. That’s like a knife in my heart. Then Lord Śiva laughed, he smiled. No one is wise, and no one is the fullest one. It only happens as God’s will. How God Rāma gives the buddhi to someone, one acts in that time according to their buddhi, their thoughts. As Lord Rāma gives a person the knowledge of the Buddha’s faith to act as he wishes at that time... Therefore, we pray always, "Lord, give us sad buddhi, the positive intellect." Ezért imádkozunk mindig úgy, hogy, Uram, adj nekem saddhā buddhi, pozitív intelektust. Zátószem, Málimok, Gospode, dajnám saddh buddhi, pozitíván intelektust. Good thought. Jó gondolatokat. God protect us from all negative thinking. God protect us from all kinds of negative thoughts. We will always think as we have within us. And we are acting how we are thinking. Therefore, it’s very important that we have a good intellect. Sometimes one does a very terrible thing, and afterwards one is so unhappy, saying, "My God, why, why have I done this?" That time our buddhi was confused. If anyone does something stupid, then we say, "God, give him or her sadbuddhi, the good intellect, positive intellect." If someone does something stupid, then we pray, "Lord, give him or her positive intellect." When someone does something stupid, then we pray, "Lord, give him or her sadbuddhi, positive intellect." Great Sage Yājñavalkya says,... I’m going to tell you the supreme, the divine quality of Rāma Candrajī, God Rāma. You listen. Listen to my telling. Tulsidāsī said, "The destroyer of ego and pride, and the liberator from birth and death." The Lord of the dynasty, Raghukula. Meditate, and sing His name with devotion. Meditate and sing His name with devotion. Śrī Rām Jaya Rām Jaya Jaya Rām, Śrī Rām Jaya Rām Jaya Jaya Rām, Śrī Rām Jaya Rām Jaya Rām.
