We shall give happiness to others

Knowledge is life, distinguishing humanity. Intellect requires knowledge.

There are two kinds of knowledge. Vācārthī is knowledge from reading scriptures and then speaking it. Lakṣārthī is knowledge aimed at self-realization, the ultimate target of all wise seekers. The human brain is a grantha, a store of recorded knowledge. What one records and utilizes determines one's path. Ancient techniques like mantra chanting purify the inner being. Sound originates as resonance in the navel. This Nāda is Brahman, manifesting as indestructible syllables, Akṣara Brahma. Sound moves through stages from the navel to speech. This resonance influences the entire body and nature. Positive sound regenerates; negative sound creates fear and imbalance. Thoughts and words radiate out and return to the speaker. Therefore, one must give happiness to receive happiness.

"Through body, mind, words, and wealth—we shall give happiness to others."

"If you give happiness to others, then you will realize that happiness. It will come to you."

Hari Om. We spent one month in Haridwar at Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara Svāmī Śrī Viśvakaraṇānandajī’s āśrama, where we had Gaṅgā āratī and Gaṅgā snāna every day. We were learning a few mantras from the Laghu Siddhānta Kaumudī, Tarka Saṅgraha, and Pañcadaśī, and we wish to share those mantras. Gajalambu... Good evening, all dear brothers, sisters, and spiritual seekers. Blessings are coming to you from the Holy Land, Bhārat, Om Viśvadīp Gurukul, Jādan Pālī. Just now, you have been listening to the chanting of both Brahmachārīs of our Gurukul, Rājendra Purī and Avatārpūrī. Vidyā hi jīvana hai. Knowledge is life. Without knowledge, there is very little difference between humans and animals. Humans are blessed by the Almighty with a beautiful intellect, and that intellect requires knowledge. There are two kinds of knowledge: Lakṣārthī and Vācārthī. Vācārthī is that kind of knowledge which we read in the scriptures—the Vedas, Upaniṣads, Gītā, Rāmāyaṇa, Bible, Quran, and many, many other books and scriptures written by great scholars and saints. After reading, when we give a speech, that means we are the vācārthī. Vāca means speech or reading. Speaking "Bhagavānuvāca," as we read in the Bhagavad Gītā: "Adhyātma-vidyā vidyānām." Through svādhyāya, studying granthas—the holy scriptures—"grantha" is a beautiful name. The specialty of all holy books and holy literature written by great scholars is that it is without any title. It doesn’t need a title. Look, there is only one name called the Bible. There is only one name called the Quran. There is only one name called Upaniṣad. There is only one name called Vedas. There is only one name called Gītā. There is only one name called Rāmāyaṇa. There is only one name called Līlā, Līlā Amṛt. Similarly, the Grantha means that scripture or that book which is realized, contemplated, experienced, and experimented upon. Out of that experience, they write. Grantha means collected, immense knowledge put in one knot, in one word. It is bounded, it is tightened in that one grantha. Nowadays, what we call computers—in the small stick of the computer, how many books you can record, though it is small. Similarly, a Grantha, which has been experienced and put together, is like a knot we make. Granthi means a gland. Because the English language comes from Sanskrit, many words have the same meanings. Granthā, Granthī, Gland begins with the alphabet G. In those scriptures, in those śāstras, they put immense information or knowledge. Granth and śāstras, again there is a difference. Śāstra means where you can get information, answers, inspirations. In this, Holy Gurujī used to say in his satsaṅg: "Cār ved se śāstra, bāt likhī hai doī, sukh diyā sukh hotā hai, dukh diyā dukh hoī." The four Vedas and six philosophies, the śāstras—all their essence, when we put it all together, there are only two results. That is called "Sukh diyā sukh hotā hai." If you give someone happiness, if you give someone pleasure, if you give someone comfort, if you release someone’s pain, if you release someone’s troubles, it means giving Sukha. If you give happiness to others, then you will realize that happiness. It will come to you. The result is happiness. Therefore, every action—tan, man, bachan, dhana—through body, through mind, through words, and through social powers, positions, and wealth—we shall give happiness to others. Or "Dukh diyāṁ dukh hoī." Dukha means troubles—any kind of negative things, any kind of pain, troubles, discomfort. That’s called duḥkha. "Dukh diyāṁ dukh hoī." If we give the dukha, then we will sooner or later get the dukha. Cār Ved, the Four Vedas, contain immense information and knowledge of the entire universe—not only this planet, but about thousands of solar systems, the entire galaxy, different planets, Ākāśa, Ānanda, endless, Hari Ānanda, Ānanda Hari Kathā. The one who gets this realization is a Hari, God, Ānanda Hari Kathā, and the glory of that is endless. And Śāstras, that’s all different kinds of philosophies written in this. Finally, we come to this: sukha and duḥkha. Therefore, our worshipped Gurudev, Holy Gurujī, used to say in his satsaṅgs: Each and every entity would like to be happy; no one wants to be unhappy. "Sabhī sukhī kī khoj meṁ hai, dukha kī khoj meṁ koī nahīṁ hai." Everyone is searching for happiness; no one is searching for unhappiness. But that happiness can only appear through knowledge, through jñāna. So the first jñāna is called vācārthī—readings and preaching. Speaking what you read, you speak. That is also knowledge and good, but only for a lifetime. Then comes the lakṣārthī, lakṣa. "Hamārā lakṣya kyā hai? Hamārā lakṣya kyā hai?" Jis ke pās mein lakṣay hain, usko lakṣartī kete hain. Lakṣay means aim, target. Which kind of target or lakṣay you have, you realize. But the wise ones have only one lakṣay: ātmā jñāna. Therefore, all the saints of the world, all the yogīs and spiritual seekers, all the wise men have only one Lakṣaya: ātma jñāna. All different kinds of knowledge are limited or behind the ātma jñāna, self-realization. So the human brain is also a grantha where an immense amount of knowledge and information is stored and recorded, what we call memory. That which you record in your brain and utilize, according to that you will get. Therefore, try to reduce, try to delete the wrong information and negative thinking, and try to record the positive and divine. It is said, "I am to you as you are to me." Similarly, which information you record will lead you to your ātmā jñāna, or again you have to go through this chaurāsī—the creation, life after life, coming and going—or entering into the jñāna jyoti, jñāna amṛta, that knowledge. Therefore, the ancient techniques which the scholars, great persons, or saints created are mantras, ślokas, and chanting. When you chant what you have stored and recorded in your brain, in your grantha, that will come out. That will purify the antaḥkaraṇa: mana, buddhi, nidhi, chitta, and ahaṃkāra. While chanting, it’s not only that you are chanting, but you are listening also. These are the three levels of the nāda. The seat of the sound is in the navel, because everything is created and begins with that resonance, the sound. And the navel is the middle point of the entire universe. Our life begins from there. Śabda Brahma, Nādarūpa Parabrahma—the form of the Supreme is that resonance, the Nāda. Nāda Brahma—that Nāda is the Brahman. And from that Nāda is manifesting the Akṣara, the words, the syllable; therefore it is called Akṣara Brahma. Akṣar means akṣaya, "jiskā kabhī kṣaya nahīṁ hotā hai"—which has no end and cannot be destroyed. That’s called Akṣar Brahma. Because in that Akṣar is Brahman itself, therefore "Akṣar kā jñāna honā ati āvaśyak hai." So to have the knowledge of that word, what you speak and what you write—Akṣara Brahma, Nāda Brahma, Śabda Brahma—that is in the navel. From the navel, whenever you speak, you will see the pressure is there first. That’s called Parā. Paśyantī is on the vocal cord, the Viśuddhi Chakra, and Vaikharī is on the tip of the tongue and the lips, which formulates the word. Parā, Paśyantī, and Vaikharī. Sanchalana means the movements, the awakening, the process, the flow, the growth, the development, the supplying. Sanchalana, governing, organizing—these three Śaktis are known as Sanchalana. When this Sanchalan from Nābhi Kamal (the Lotus of the Navel), Hṛday Kamal (the Heart), and Kaṇṭh Kamal (the Viśuddhi Chakra) then comes to the Ājñā, at that time, what is in your vṛttis, in your citta, that will again transfer into your body. So when we speak, it’s not only that our echo goes in the space, but we ourselves also hear, we listen. One who cannot hear anything cannot speak. It is a connection with the sound and the vākarī. There is a blockage, there is some kind of blockage in the Maṇipūra Cakra in the navel, and therefore you will see in your Yoga in Daily Life book, there are several exercises for those children who can’t pronounce properly, who are stuttering. For them, there are special postures like Nauka Sanchalanāsana, Aśva Sanchalanāsana, and many others. You look in the book Yoga in Daily Life. At that time, nāda which comes till the vocal cord, pronounced by lips and tongue, is then transferred or directed through these two channels of Iḍā and Piṅgalā, which influences our Ājñā Chakra. And this Ājñā Chakra means both our emotion and intellect. When the clarity comes in both, then the sound will proceed towards the bindu and sahasrāra. It doesn’t matter if it is negative or positive. As soon as the resonance touches the sahasrāra cakra, the top of the head, the pure quality of that nāda enters through the suṣumnā nāḍī into the heart with the help of the sūrya nāḍī. Because the Iḍā Nāḍī belongs to the heart, and the other part of that is in three: it is transcendent through the entire body, each and every cell, and the third one goes into space. "Sare viśvame guñjrāye prabhukī amar kahānī..." In the entire universe, the glory of the Lord is resonating, and that same glory is resonating in your body. If you are angry, then all blood cells are trembling, alarmed, frightened. When a person is angry, each and every cell is out of balance. Therefore, it is wise not to be angry in that way. If it is negative, then your cells are frightened, scared, because the dead energy, dark energy, is attacking your cells in the whole body, including the brain. If it is positive, it is regenerating, lightening, and what we call enlightenment. So, it is given to the aspirants and sādhakas, the students, to perform the chanting. If you go to the monastery and you sit there, you will see the nuns and monks residing, the chanting—how beautiful it is. If you go to the temples and to the yogīs, see how they are residing and chanting. If you go to abhiṣeka or you go to the yajña, how nice the mantras are resonating. At that time, not only are the humans happy and relaxed and getting benefit, but the entire nature is as well. Therefore, chanting, abhiṣeka, yajña, etc., etc., they are healthy waves in nature. This is like what we call sound therapy. And if you are fighting, screaming, and shooting, then the whole nature is imbalanced and frightened. The fear is there. Therefore, God said to humans, "Create happiness and harmony; do not create fear." The teacher of the guru of Paramahaṃsa Yogananda said that each and every thought which goes out of the human brain will come back in that way to be realized in them, like the boomerang goes and comes back. You can have your heart. Similarly, whatever you are radiating, whatever you are speaking, all will first harm you and then others. Therefore, Holy Gurujī used to say, "In the four Vedas and scriptures, it is written in two ways: where there is happiness, there is happiness, and where there is sorrow, there is sorrow." So, chanting—there is a mantra, five techniques of the mantra—if you master it, then you will get that benefit of the mantra: likhit, vekhrī, upāṃśu, mānasik, and ajapā. Then it is said: "Ajapa jisko kya jāpī, oṯ jīva hale nahī̃, ajapa jisko kya jāpī, bin japyā jap hoī." Then no tongues and lips are moving; you are in the beautiful, divine state of consciousness, and that divine resonance is radiating, repeating from itself. Each and every cell of the body is radiating divine energy and happiness. So, my dear brothers and sisters, for today, it is enough. As Mahāprabhujī’s blessing, if we are alive, then tomorrow there will be a webcast again. For today, I wish you all the best, many blessings, love, and prayers for your well-being. Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Kī, Devīśvara Mahādeva Kī, Mādhav Kṛṣṇa Bhagavān. Om Śānti Śānti...
