We are all seekers

The Self searches for the Self, creating suffering. Humans develop yet move away from their true nature. Yoga is the balancing power of the universe, present within, harmonizing body, mind, and emotion. Imbalance arises from wrong nourishment. Love creates balance and makes wisdom digestible. Illness can attack non-physical bodies. Humans suffer most due to a lack of wisdom and love. The human instrument is precious and rare. One must realize the immortal Self within the five bodies to end suffering.

"We have five bodies. All these five bodies should be in harmony; there should be balance."

"You are not this body. You are not this mind. You are not this intellect. You are the immortal one."

And lead us from mortality to immortality. Peace should be in the whole world. May health be in the whole world. May we all live in harmony. May we all attain the completeness, the fulfillment of all our wishes. Peace and harmony in the whole universe. My adoration to Thee, O Lord, grant good health to our vegetation. Good evening, dear brothers and sisters. In the name of the Cosmic One, I bless you all. Indeed, it is a great thing to be together, and I am happy to be again in this beautiful town. In this beautiful hotel, I have already given a few lectures, and I was looking forward to seeing all of you here again. We are all seekers. We are seekers of the truth, we are seekers of love, we are seekers of wisdom, and we are seekers of our Self. And we search for our own Self. Often we say self-realization. Sometimes it’s very peculiar. That Self is searching for Self. The Self is searching for the Self. That’s it. It’s funny that the Self has lost the Self. It is very strange that the self has lost the self. And that is why the self is suffering. But which self is lost, and which self is suffering? And that is the problem of humans. Humans are very clever and developed beings, but it seems as far as we develop, that far we go away from our self. It is not complicated. But for those who don’t know, it is more than complicated. So perhaps this evening will help you to find, maybe this evening will help you to find the Self. We come back to yoga. Yoga is one of the highest principles in the universe. In this universe, there are different forces functioning. As a governor of the universe, as a creator, as a sustainer, as a liberator, all these forces are one. So there is one power, that power is known as the balancing power. Harmonizing power, uniting power, all stars, all planets, sun and moon, visible and invisible, all elements are balanced by one principle. And that’s God. Health is not everything, but everything is nothing without health, and therefore we should have healthy nourishment and healthy movements. But what you call yoga śakti, the power of yoga, that is balancing the entire universe. And that power is within you, and that’s balancing your body, the function of the body, all inner organs, circulations, everything which is to do with the physical body. It balances your mind, emotion, words, thoughts, consciousness; everything must be balanced. When everything is in balance, then there is perfect harmony. And when there is harmony, there is oneness. Wrong nourishment creates imbalance. Where there is love, there is no jealousy. Where there is love, there is no anger. Where there is love, there is no hate. Where there is love, there is no ego. No attachment. So the love makes the balance. Love makes happy. But what kind of love? The wisdom is known as love. The philosophy is that of one who loves the wisdom, who loves knowledge: what is reality and what is non-reality? The truth is not easy to digest, knowledge is not easy to digest, my dear. Knowledge is not easy to digest as long as you don’t know that your best. If your best friend has died, you are still happy. But when you get the news, when you get that knowledge, you are very unhappy. So many things in your life, which are happening behind your back, you don’t know. And when you know, maybe it will be very hard for you to digest. So wisdom is that nourishment which is very hard to digest. You have to work for that. If you can digest the reality, you will be the happiest one. And that, in order to digest, you have to put some spices inside, which makes it easy to digest. And that spice is called love, forgiveness. Understanding, harmony, unity, oneness, unity, and to realize the reality. If there is love, then wisdom is not hard to digest. But if there is jealousy, then that reality, that wisdom, is not easy to digest. Do you know what jealousy is? You don’t know. Very happy people. Jealousy can also be in animals. Jealousy can also be with plants. There are certain trees that cannot survive together. But humans are above the plants and animals. Humans have the knowledge. When you can digest the reality, the truth, you have the wisdom. You have awakened love in your heart. Now you will better understand the world. Then you will better understand the world. Even though your physical body is ill, you will better understand. Why are you ill? What is the reason? Which karma is there? Then life will become easier. You will accept it. None of us is here healthy. And the parents also died from cancer. Now a person is thinking, oh my God, this disease is in my family. I think I will also get this disease. With these black moles, with these self-suggestions, you are inviting the illness. Never think that you will become ill. Never think that you will get the same disease which your father had. No. Accept and work. We have five bodies. I am sitting here. I have five bodies, and you are sitting there; you also have five bodies. All these five bodies should be in harmony; there should be balance. So some illnesses attack not the physical body but another body. So we have called the body of nourishment the physical body. We call it Annamayakośa. This is the physical body. Ānā is nourishment. Then we have the second body. The next body is called the prāṇamayakośa. It is called Prāṇamayakośa, the energy body. If the energy body is not here, your physical body cannot move. Your physical body cannot heal the wounds. It’s prāṇa. If the prāṇa body is not here, your physical body will collapse. The third body is called Manomaya Kośa, the mental body. There is a mental body. And if this mental body is not there, the human will be completely like an animal. More than animal, lower mind. Mind is very important. We can treat the physical body. A doctor can perform an operation. You can take some tablets. But how are we going to treat our mental body? Well, the doctor may give you some volumes. And they came to the point, it’s called depression, or hallucination, anxiety, schizophrenia. There is no medicine for this; they only give some tranquilizer and let time pass, so by nature you may recover again. Wait and see, the time will bring an answer. And in that research work, which was in America, they said three things are the best as a treatment. Prayer, yoga exercises, physical yoga, and meditation, these things can bring you out of depression. This can bring you out of mental illness. The biggest punishment, karmic punishment, is that mental illness. May God protect us from this. The human is because of their mind and because of their intellect. This intellect, the abilities of the discrimination between good and bad, that makes the human, and if that is attacked by illness, it is a big punishment. Therefore, complete treatment for the mind is only in yoga. I don’t like to say always only, but there are some times you must say, "Only this chance you have." There was a great saint, a great yogī. When he used to preach to his disciples, he used to live in the forest, what you call a hermitage. When he began to preach, lions and tigers would sit beside him. Patañjali, in the Patañjali Yoga Sūtra, is preaching Ahiṃsā Paramo Dharma, non-violence as the highest principle, the highest realism. You should never have in your mind the thinking to harm someone, to think about hurting someone, not to kill someone, not to... Attack someone? Develop love in your heart, and when you have that love in your heart, there is no fear. Then tiger and goat can drink water in the same pot together. But in humans, there is so much hate, aggressivity. I give you a very nice example: a bird, see, there to sit on the back of the tiger or the lion, but no birds there to sit on a human’s shoulder. But it will not sit on the human shoulder. Is it true? Except you are trained on a bird, which you cut the feathers of. So animals feel how much aggressivity the humans have. And those negative qualities attack us again, back to us, recycling. They come back to us as recyclables that cause the illness. The most unhappy creature in this world is the human. Mostly ill is human. Mostly aggressive is human. Mostly fighting and creating wars is human. Mostly suffering is human, though humans are known as higher beings. Then why does it happen to humans? Because humans are missing two things: wisdom and love. If you are wise enough, then you will follow: love your neighbor. Your neighbor means all others except you. All humans, all creatures, love your neighbor. Thou shalt not kill. And we think it’s said only humans, but humans are killing humans today. We are creating the weapons; that’s not a wise thing. If you create one weapon, even with good feeling, be sure one day this weapon, that weapon, will harm some creatures or humans. Then why to create? The person who discovered atoms did not know that in the future people would make weapons out of them. If he had known this, he would not have done this. So wisdom was missing, overthinking. You have good intentions, but they end in bad things. Therefore, try to keep your mental body healthy. Do not speak such things which harm you and others. Then it’s called Vijñānamayakośa, the body of intellect. How to use your wisdom, that is very important. You know, but how to put the words now. It is said that if someone is injured by a knife, that wound will heal again sooner or later. But those who are injured by words, that wound will not heal. That will remain in the heart forever. Therefore, it is said, control your tongue. Do not use the weapon of your tongue to damage. To destroy, to torture the hearts of others. Intellect is very important. So there is the intellectual body, Vijñānamayakośa. That’s your knowledge, that’s your wisdom. Which you learn from beginning with your mother, till the university professor, and then till your spiritual master, the guru, which is very important. It is he who leads us from the darkness of the ignorance to the light of the knowledge, it is very important to have the society of the Master. Master is strict but teaches you valuable things. And the fifth body is called Ānandamaya Kośa. Body of the desires, body of the desires. Ānanda has two meanings: body of the blissness, but then there is no body, there is only bliss. But those desires which you want to fulfill physically, or mentally, emotionally, intellectually, that is the Ānandamayakośa. Now, these five bodies are like layers, one after the other. And within these five bodies, there is a light of the Self. And that is the Self, the one. So draw your consciousness to that light. You are that one. Intellectually, you’ve forgotten. "I am the body," you think. My body. My emotions. My feelings. We have to search our self while using the instrument of our intellect and body. This body is given to us as an instrument. This body is only an instrument. You are not this body. You are not this body. You are not this mind. You are not this intellect. You are not this emotion. You are the immortal one. So you are that light, that power, which is balancing the entire universe, and that one which balances your body, your mind, your emotions, your intellect, and so on. Without getting realization of that Self, there will be no end to our unhappiness and suffering, and there will always be ignorance. For that purpose, God has given us the human body. This human body, this instrument is a precious diamond. And this diamond will not be given again and again. It is very rare. You cannot borrow the body anywhere. And you can’t give your body to someone. You can’t buy a new body. You cannot change this body. Just, "I don’t like this one, I give up and take a new one." It’s God’s blessing that you are born as a human. It’s God’s blessing that you are here. And you are here as a protector. You understand what love is. You understand what love is, and that’s why you should give love. If you can’t do good things, please don’t do bad things. If you can’t speak well about someone, don’t speak badly about someone. If you can’t write good things about someone, then at least don’t write bad things. Everything comes back to you. These are the yogic thoughts, and if all people in this world think like this, the world will be heaven on earth. We wish harmony and peace. In the Vedas it is said, "Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinaḥ," all should be happy. The yogīs, the ṛṣis, the Hindu monks, they never say any particular name of God. And never say, "Only me." They always say "Sarve," which means "all." May everyone be happy. Healthy thinking makes a healthy mind. And wise thinking makes the wise. Healthy movement and nourishment make a healthy body. And healthy movement and healthy food bring a healthy body. That’s what Yoga in Daily Life teaches us.
