Science of chakras

Yoga is the union of individual consciousness with cosmic consciousness, achieved through harmony and balance. The cosmic energy governs the universe, and this principle of union was discovered by ancient yogis. The individual soul is a spark of the divine light, present in all life. We originate from the cosmic sound and are composed of the five elements. Our journey involves many births, guided by karma, as the soul moves through forms and relations. The human body contains dormant energy centers called chakras, connected by 72,000 channels. Three primary channels—Ida, Pingala, and Sushumna—regulate energy, mind, and activity, converging at key points to form the chakras. These centers correspond to the elements and levels of consciousness, from the earthly Muladhara to the divine Sahasrara. Activating these centers through practice leads toward liberation.

Part 1: The Path of Yoga: From Individual to Cosmic Consciousness Merciful Lord, lead us from unreality to reality. Lead us from the darkness of ignorance to the light of wisdom. Lead us from mortality to immortality. Oṁ, peace, peace,... oṁ, peace, peace, peace. With salutations to the cosmic light, the Lord of our heart, omniscient and omnipresent, dear brothers and sisters, good evening. I am happy to see you all here and to be in this beautiful town for a second time. This evening we have a wonderful subject: Kuṇḍalinī and the Chakras, which is quite interesting. Before that, I would like to speak about yoga, as there are some new friends here who are perhaps beginners. How old is yoga? What does yoga mean? What position does yoga hold in human society? What is the purpose of practicing yoga, and what can we achieve through it? Within these answers, the topics of the chakras and Kuṇḍalinī power will come automatically. In the holy Vedas, it is said: Anant Brahmāṇḍa, Śāstra Sūrya—there is an endless universe with thousands of solar systems. The Protector and Sustainer of the whole universe is the Cosmic Energy, the Cosmic Consciousness. The endless universe, all stars, suns, moons, and visible and invisible elements are balanced and governed by one Consciousness. That consciousness, which works through some energy or power, is called Yog-Śakti, Yog-Māyā. God, Kṛṣṇa, says in the Bhagavad Gītā: "Arjuna, from time to time I manifest myself through my Yogamāyā, the yogic power." That God who incarnates here for the sake of human society and all His creatures cannot manifest without a reason and without some power. That may be His own power, but that power, that will, is known as yoga. When balance is created, harmony appears automatically. And when harmony appears, then there is unity. So, yoga means union—the union of the individual consciousness with the cosmic consciousness. Yoga means harmony, and yoga means balance. This is the principle of yoga, which was realized by great sages, or yogīs, many thousands of years ago—far beyond the past we can conceive. Their research tells us: What is the individual? Who are you? And what is God? Dear friends, life without God is unimaginable. Life without God is a bird without wings, a body without a soul, a tree without fruits, a cow without milk. In every culture and tradition, there is God. We have to go through God; we should surrender to God. Ultimately, it is He who can forgive us and liberate us. We look forward and pray for His divine mercy and forgiveness. But how did this consciousness awaken in humanity? How did spirituality begin? There must have been someone who first realized there is a God, who first realized there is an individual and a liberation or union for that individual. These were the yogīs. They brought the signs of spirituality. When they found that an individual is suffering, through their meditation they discovered techniques to overcome problems, purify karmas, and come to God. First, what they awakened in human consciousness was belief. Believe in oneself. Believe in God. There is God, and there is prayer. Prayer is nothing other than a request. We request forgiveness, for who are we to forgive? Only God can forgive. You live in a culture where Christianity is major. Christians, and Jesus at the critical time of crucifixion, said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." So it is God who can forgive. Who are we to say, "Okay, I will forgive"? Therefore, God exists. There is a supreme power to whom we must surrender and whom we must realize. That belief alone will purify your karmas or your sins. What do you understand about sin? What is sin? How does one create sin? Through doing something—and that doing is karma. Good or bad? Bad things create sin, and good things create good results. Bad karma has a bad effect; good karma has a good effect. So, you can say sin or karma. But karma has two sides, good or bad, while sin has only one side, for it is sin. To become free from this sin, we shall pray. We shall do selfless work, humanitarian work, help animals, and protect the environment. Helping hands have more value than folded hands. Pray, believe, do good, help. There is God, and there are individuals. These are the principles of yoga. This is the message of a yogī, which is several thousand years old. Now, all religions of the world today, if they hold these principles—there is a God, believe in God, pray to God, ask forgiveness for your sins, help, be kind, love all—then these religions are part of yoga. Yoga is the supreme power, the cosmic consciousness, the consciousness of what you call the Holy Father. Through that light of the cosmic self, when the yogī went into his body, he realized one thing. There is something living in this body. This is not the body, not an emotion, not a mind, and not an intellect. Something peculiar exists in this body. As long as it is present, the body is alive. When it departs, the body is declared dead. As long as that self exists in the body, the body has function and feeling. So what is that? That is the soul. And within that soul, there is a light, and that light is the light of God. In this glass, there is water. But this water is the water of the ocean. How it came to the glass is different, but it originated from the ocean. In a bottle, there is also water. In a bucket, there is also water. In a tank, there is also water. In a river, there is also water. All these waters originated from the ocean. In every creature, human or animal, where there is life, there is a light of God. That is God, the creator of all creatures. All are His children. How to come back to Him? It is said that we are seekers, searching. We have had many, many lives behind us. We have been born and died many times. Now, where will we go? Unfortunately, we do not know. We do not know from where we came, how we came, or why we came. And where will we go? Again, we begin to meditate. We come to the creation. In the beginning, there was only dark, cold, void space. From that cosmic consciousness, the nāda comes out. That sound is known as Oṁ. Today's scientists say there was a very big sound in the universe, like a big explosion, and there is still a resonance. Everything comes from that sound; we are the waves of that sound. We come from the Cosmic Self. There, the elements were created: first the fire element, then the air element, then the water element, and after that the earth element. The space element is always there. From these elements, beings are created. We are all created from five elements. Different lives have different centers in the body. The human soul, the human consciousness, is far developed but still very dependent on the waves of time. This individual soul flutters like a boat from space to space. For a time, it remains somewhere and creates a form, a birth. It creates relations: mother, father, husband, wife, children, friends. After some time, again, the self begins to go, and the body dissolves. Family attachments and relations follow you for a certain distance, but again you are alone in the dark space. Your destiny, your karma, will bring you to a new life. When the individual self descends from the cosmic consciousness, or from the universe, to the physical world and the body, then God, or the Cosmic Mother—which you may call the Cosmic Principles—sends with that soul different kinds of lights and protections. Just as when a president or great personality travels, security automatically follows them. In this body, we are the protection. Accompanied by consciousness, intellect, emotion, memory, and all these feelings, the body is created. Now, the human body is here. The human body contains an immense amount of dormant energy. That is called Chakra. Chakra means a circle, a cycle, round. Why do we call them chakras? Energy always flows and comes in cycles. Like the sun's rays, which do not come directly to us but are cycling. Everything is zero. Everything is round. Energy is round. Water drops are always round. Your soul is round. Everything is turning because, in that sound which started evolution and cycling, that is why we call it rebirth. In modern language, you call it recycling. Why recycling? It is turning. So the chakras in the body are constantly turning. And when they turn, energy is produced, like a dynamo. According to yogic science, yogic anatomy, in the human body there are 72,000 nāḍīs (channels) through which conscious energy flows, like a network. Each nāḍī has its own function. These are not like physical nerves but are an astral part of them. The nāḍīs have branches. Where a branch begins to divide—take the letter 'Y'—there are seven points of energy. At the bottom, middle, and top of the branch, there are different energies. This is again proved by scientists, especially through acupuncture. In electric acupuncture, they call it a jaw energy center. If you touch the needle to the correct point, the monitor's needle will move. If you miss the point, it will not. This means the energy center is a chakra. Energy flows, is created, and is consumed there. In the body, there are thousands of centers divided into categories. The centers under our foot soles up to the ankle joints are the earth chakras, belonging to the animal kingdom, mixed with earth qualities, vegetation, and animals. From the ankle joints to the hip joints are also earth chakras. From the hip joints, where the spinal column ends at the bottom, up to the beginning of the head are the human centers. From the beginning of the head to the top of the head are the divine centers. These are the four categories of centers in our body. Where you should concentrate and where you should not is very important. Sometimes you awaken energy by pressing a point on your foot soles and feel energy in the whole body. Energy should not be blocked. Of the 72,000 nāḍīs, three are very important, forming the central nervous system located from the brain through the spinal column. In Sanskrit, they are called Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumṇā. Iḍā controls our left hemisphere and our emotions. It has the moon principle. The moon is a water principle, and water is emotion. The moon does not rise the same every day; it changes. Similarly, you do not think the same way every day; you change your mind and have different thoughts. The moon waxes and wanes. The mind has two functions: Saṅkalpa (to decide) and Vikalpa (to give up). That is what our mind does. The Iḍā nāḍī, connected to the left nostril, is our emotional part, our mind. The right one is called Piṅgalā. It controls our right hemisphere, our activities and temperament, representing the sun. So, this is the sun system, and Iḍā is the moon system. Within them is a third nāḍī, Suṣumṇā, the central one, which controls both. Suṣumṇā represents our consciousness. Everything that happens to you happens through your consciousness, which has different levels. As Buddha wrote: "At the time of my enlightenment, I went back to the stone time. I followed my consciousness until I reached the stones." Part 2: The Long Journey to Consciousness It was I who existed within the stones. For millions upon millions of years, I was present in the stones. It was a long, long, long journey until I arrived at human consciousness. And again, there was a long path until I came to enlightenment—that is, supreme consciousness, Cosmic Consciousness. His name was Siddhartha. The prince Siddhartha, but when he attained enlightenment, he was known as Buddha. Buddha means the enlightened one, or self-realized ones, who have God Consciousness. Now, the Patañjali yogī and some other yogīs divide Consciousness into some major parts. Unconsciousness—you have unconsciousness also. Subconsciousness—you have subconsciousness. Consciousness—you have this. Superconsciousness—that some of you have not. And cosmic consciousness, that you will have after death. These are the five different levels of consciousness. Unconsciousness is the part of your consciousness where all your karmas from past lives exist. You may call them sin. You may call them karma. You may call them your luck. You may call them bad luck. Everyone has different things in the unconscious. The problem is this: we don’t know what is in our unconscious. We are sitting here, and under this there is a basement, and we don’t know what’s lying there inside. It can be gold, it can be coal, or it can be bombs. We don’t know, because we can’t see through this matter. So your unconsciousness, you cannot see. In Kundalini Yoga, the unconsciousness is known as the chakra, the Mūlādhāra Chakra. I will come to this point very soon. The Suṣumnā Nāḍī, or the nerve, is controlling and guiding our consciousness, and our consciousness is very much dependent on our brain centers. Now, these three nāḍīs, these three channels through which the energy is streaming: Moon, Sun, and Cosmic Consciousness. And the Vedas said, "Yathā brahmāṇḍe tathā piṇḍe." What is existing in the cosmos? Everything is existing in your body. Entire functions of the cosmos are in your body. And not only in your body, in each blood cell. Your son or your daughter looks exactly like you. An apple seed has everything hidden, the whole tree and all fruits, color, taste, and the seed is so small. Yathā brahmāṇḍe tathā piṇḍe—what is existing in the universe is existing in your body. That is a yogī’s declaration. This channeling system, when you imagine your body, I can say that you are like some lightning ball, and from every direction of the universe, light is streaming into your body, while when you see the sun, the light is streaming, radiating. So, the cosmic mother, she takes care of you and me constantly. She is giving energy, and that energy is going towards our soul. Why do you breathe in and out? Not only oxygen, constantly this child of that cosmic mother is nourished through the cosmic light. Inhale and exhale, the whole body, some chakras in the hands, they become active, and you have healing power. Some people have healing power, and you have also, but your chakras are dormant. If you want, I can show you the technique for how to do it immediately. Would you like to have healing hands? Very good idea. Practice makes the master. This you should practice at home. I am sure that your hands will be healing hands, and it doesn’t require anything. Practice a few times a day, and it doesn’t take a long time. You can practice in your car when the traffic light is red. When it becomes green, you have already finished the practice. And you will see that red light will become green. So, we will do now. Look at your beautiful hands. I am going to show you a very simple technique. But it will have a very strong, intensive effect. Open your palms like this, and I’m sure you feel something now. Normally, you don’t feel. Do you feel something? And now I would like that you put your hands like this. Now you feel more intense than before. And I can tell you what you feel. Why do you feel? Because the blood circulation is moving. So, still not a miracle. The miracle will come now. This energy you feel, sensation, these are all your cakras in the palms. You have hundreds of cakras. Now, close your fingers together and fold your hands. You don’t feel now. But now the process begins, and this process is that you rub your palms like this. Go ahead. And in this way, now we are somehow physically activating our dormant chakras. Go ahead. Until it becomes very hot. Till the tip of the fingers is a drop. And don’t miss the chance. And now, more extensively, see? And now, concentrate. And stop. Like this. Do you feel? Try to bring your palms nearer and go far. So you will feel energy when you go far and when you come nearer. Pulling together, it’s a magnetic power. There is nothing, only your own bio-energy. And your chakras are activated from the hands. If you move like this, like needles going through, feel it. And now you close your palms, make a fist, and put your hands down. And tell cosmic mother divine energy, please go back. And now bring your hands nearer. You don’t feel? Do you feel now? This is a very simple technique if you don’t want something different. Things, then, at least for a winter, is very good. So when the traffic light is red, you can make your this exercise and then go ahead driving. If you will do few months continuously and you place your hand somewhere on your body where you have pain? First, rub the palms and then place your hand there. You will be able to heal yourself or someone else. This is a very, very useful technique. If you do it, it’s for you. If you will not do it, it’s your thing. Now, these three nāḍīs, Iḍā, Piṅgalā and Suṣumṇā, they begin from the place which we call Ājñā, or the small of the brain. From there, these channels begin to enter downward into the body. The left one goes to the right, and the right one goes to the left. How did they try to coordinate the body equally, harmonize it? There are some people who cannot coordinate their left and right hand. For them, the best would be to meditate and concentrate on the Ājñā Chakra. There is a special breathing technique; you will be able to cure this defect. The left nāḍī goes to the right, the right goes to the left; where they are crossing, the center one goes straight. There becomes one chakra, and that’s called the Viśuddhi chakra. That’s near the thyroid gland. From here, right goes again, right. And left goes again left, which was the right side. And they cross here at the center of the chest. That becomes the heart chakra. Likewise, these nāḍīs are going in a serpentine way. That’s why they call it serpent power. The snake is only like this because of its attitude. So these centers, they go still, Manipūra cakra, and after, below the Manipūra cakra, the physical, only the nerves, they disappear like a river enters into the desert. But the astral part of the nerves, it goes till the end of the spinal column, and there the three nāḍī channels, the three streams, they come together and block there. That chakra we call Mūlādhāra Chakra. I could show you the picture, but it is a small picture. And you will need first binoculars, some glasses for looking, so better I will not show you. But unfortunately, this book is not here, however. It’s a very little picture, you can see. Perhaps you are able to look, see. It’s too far for someone, I know. Next time, I will prepare myself better and bring the slides. Mūlādhāra Chakra. Now, the yogīs are concentrating on eight chakras. So these five chakras are below; they belong to the five elements. Earth element is Mūlādhāra cakra. Water element is Svādhiṣṭhāna cakra. The fire element is the Maṇipūra chakra. The air element is the Anāhata Chakra, and the space element is the Viśuddhi Chakra. These are the five centers. They belong to the human consciousness. Between the human consciousness and cosmic consciousness, there is one chakra that is called the Ājñā chakra, that is called the third eye. Above this, there are two more important chakras. One is called Bindu. Bindu is a chakra which produces nectar in our body. When the Bindu Chakra is working properly, then you have good memory and you have good eyesight. When the Bindu Chakra is not functioning properly, then your memory gets slower and slower. And you need the eyeglasses, and your options are growing more and more. Because the Bindu Chakra is not active. I can tell you now some techniques to activate Bindu Chakra. Bindu Chakra is on the top of the head when you cut very short hair. Or someone has short hair; you see here one circle, a coil. And if you want to know where your Bindu Chakra coil is, then go tomorrow to the hairdresser and cut short hair. They will grow again, do not worry. There is your Bindu Chakra. Bindu Chakra is a very small, very small gland. That gland produces some kind of hormone. And that harmony is very important for your memory and for your eyesight. In some cases, yogīs say, if you can catch those drops or those hormones from the bindu chakra, on the top tip of your tongue, you need not eat anything. Your body begins to nourish from the prāṇa. And from nectar from that bindu chakra. Don’t ask me if I try or not. Because I like to eat. Very, very clear. And I would tell you also, you should eat. But for the sake of your health, you can have the Bindu Chakra activated. In old times, the yogīs used to have some hair here and tie it there. So you will see many Hindus, they have long hair here, and they make a knot here. Not that they are Hindu, or Muslims, or Christians, but because in old times they were practicing yoga, and they knew that here is the Bindu Chakra, and they could activate it through this. Second way, take some kind of oil or perfume which you like. Take a little and rub it on that point of the Bindu Chakra. Morning, before bathing, you take one drop of honey and you rub there for one minute. Not too tight, strong. Take one drop of milk and rub it on that. This rubbing here on this point of the head, I can tell you that it will develop your eyesight. Don’t ask me anatomically why and how, because I’m not a doctor, but I can only tell you practical experiences which I made. There are some people who always have very strong eye pressure, and sometimes you need to close your eyes because you have pain. Eyeballs, that will disappear. Honey, milk. After you wash yourself, and then you put a little perfume. Best would be sandalwood oil, or a little tiger bone. Because the whole day you will feel a beautiful sensation here. When you go to the water for bathing or showering. First, you should put water here on top of the head. And then, other parts of the body. We are doing different. It was first front leg and two, and then hands, and then it comes here. Sometimes only once a week, because we have the sour cap. These are all yogic techniques which help us physically, mentally, and spiritually. So I’m telling you, at the same time, some kind of useful techniques. You got about the healing, how to develop the healing power. And now you got how to help your memory and your eyesight. And if you want more, something for memory, I can tell you quickly something more. Every morning, eat 10 to 15 pieces of almonds. Best would be that you suck it in the water, and in the morning, peel them. And before breakfast, you eat them. If you like, a little honey and milk. Especially for the students, that will develop your memory. It will keep your memory, and if you feel dizzy from time to time, almonds will help you. Okay. Now, this chakra, this is the seventh one. Eighth chakra is here on the top of the head. You can see when the small child is born. You see here, soft place, Fontana. That is what we call the sahasrāra cakra. Thousand-petaled lotus, or we call it brahmarandhra, the door to the brahmaloka. Normally, when a person dies, a non-yogic person, when the soul leaves this body, out of the one door—this body has ten doors—and out of one door the soul goes out. Two eyes, two nostrils, two ears, a mouth, the anus, and the urinary tract. These are the ten doors. Some people, when they die, they become cold and pass urine. That is a sign that this soul went to the lower world, to the lower life again, a lower form of life. When someone dies suddenly, opens mouth, that soul went out through the mouth. Some people have bleeding through the nose, soul going through the nose. Someone has bleeding through the ears, and some open very wide eyes. These are the different ways the soul is going out, but one who is liberated is one who is going to be free from birth and death. The soul passes out through this part of the body. In some cases, not in very many, they cease opening the blood. In some cases, you will feel it hot, warm there. The soul, the whole body is cold, but the soul is here residing. When one is in a coma, then at that time, mostly the soul is residing here, in this part of the brain. This is called the door of the light, the door of liberation, and the door to the Brahmaloka, the supreme consciousness. So, yogīs that try to manipulate these chakras and bring their consciousness to the Sahasrāra Chakra, at the time of the death of the body, they will pass through this door. When you reach this Chakra, then you are free from the karmas, you are free from the sin, you are liberated. Then you can bless someone, you can liberate someone, you can help someone, and you can come back again from. The astral world, as a spiritual master, as a spiritual God, will help us.
