Benefit is in the valuating

The value of spiritual practice lies in your own devotion, not in external objects. An object's price fluctuates, but the object itself does not change; your profit or loss is determined by the value you assign. Similarly, God and the Master remain constant. Your spiritual gain or loss depends entirely on your bhāva—your respect, appreciation, devotion, and love for the divine. Doubt creates loss, while faith creates benefit. Your liberation is in your hands; heaven is temporary like a hotel stay, but mokṣa is everlasting. A story illustrates this: disciples with jealousy asked a Master if a bird they held was alive or dead. The Master replied that its life was in their hands. Your spiritual progress is likewise in your hands. Faith can move mountains. Grace collects where there is humility, not ego. The luckiest day is meeting the Master, which awakens you from ignorance. Love for Brahman is the aim of life, a devotion distinct from worldly love. Your inner atmosphere is created by your thoughts; you can master them to change from unhappiness to happiness.

"Bhāva means your respect. Bhāva means your appreciation. Bhāva means your devotion."

"My dear, if the bird is dead or alive, that I cannot tell you, because its life is in your hands."

This is an object, and we shall now assess its value. Today, it costs 5,000 Czech crowns. The value of this case is 5,000 Czech crowns. Tomorrow, the price may rise. It will cost 50,000 crowns. Now you have a gain. What is your profit? How much benefit do you have? 45,000 crowns. Did this case change? No. So, the benefit lies in the value, the price. This case cost 5,000 Czech Koruna. Tomorrow the price may fall, and it will cost 100 crowns. What did you lose? You lost 4,900 crowns. Did this case change? No. So where is the benefit? The benefit is in the values. If you have values for God at 50,000 percent, then you have a fifty-thousand-percent benefit. And if you have value for God of only four hundred crowns, a cobra goes and sits in a summer stock room—it is your loss. Loss and gain is in the bhāva. Bhāva means values. Bhāva means your respect. Bhāva means your appreciation. Bhāva means your devotion. Bhāva means your love for God or for things. Bhāva means your adoration. Things don’t change. God will always remain the same God. Which was before millions of years, is now, today, and will also be in the future. The same God which was for you when you were not self-realized. Now, when you begin to practice and when you will get realization, God will not change. So, as much value as you have for your sādhanā, for your spirituality, for your Master—in the words of the Master, in the teachings of the Master, in the gazing of the Master, in the guidance of the Master—there is your benefit. And when you have doubt, it is your loss. So gain or loss is in your hands. The Master will always be the same. Never compare your Master. Never try to play clever in front of him. Everything is in your hands, my dear: your liberation, whether you are going to mokṣa, or you are going to heaven or hell. Heaven is a five-star hotel; as long as you have money, you can stay there. Then you have to go out again. As long as you have your good karmas, you will stay in heaven. When you have enjoyed your good karmas, you come to Charasi again in this rebirth and death. And Mokṣa is the everlasting kingdom for you. It depends on you. It’s in your hands. After the Kumbh Melā, one man told a very nice story. And I thought this is a very good story I should tell you also. Do you like the story? Do you like the story or the joke? I have both. You cannot say you like both heaven and hell. You must be careful. Anyhow, why am I telling this story? Because it is subject to this subject. It depends on you, my dear, what you will do. With your doubts, you can destroy everything. There were some students, disciples, unrealized ones. One day they were angry with the Master, and jealous, and feeling revenge. When the three things are there, then the constellation is very bad: angry, jealous, and taking revenge. Only Devpurījī can protect you. There were three disciples who decided to insult the Master, in such a way that they had to prove to the Master that he doesn’t know anything. One of them took one bird in his hand—a small, beautiful, nice bird. He took it in his hand and held it behind his back. All three of them went to the Master and said, "From the three of us, one of us has something in the hand. You always say, 'I know, Master knows everything.' Then, tell me, what do we have in hand? If you know everything, then you will know what I have in hand." The Master said he saw the faces of these three guys. In their eyes was jealousy, anger, and a feeling of revenge. The Master understood. The Master said, "Well, you have a bird in your hand." They were looking at each other. True is true. They said yes. But Master, you answered well that we have a bird in our hand. But that disciple who had a bird in his hand was thinking, "I must ask one more question. We must make him do wrong. Whatever he will say, we will show him the opposite. And whatever he says, we will prove that it is the opposite. I must ask the Master if this bird is alive or dead. If he will say it is alive, I will squeeze my hand so that the bird will die, and show him a dead bird. How can he say that it is alive? And if he will say that it is a dead bird, I will just let her fly. He will be wrong." You see, like this, there are sometimes disciples. When such thoughts come in the mind of disciples, then their spirituality is lost. How? When strong wind comes, the clouds disappear. When the sun shines, the snow melts. So he asks the Master, "Master, is this bird alive or dead?" Very seriously. Master looked in the eyes of the disciple. He gazed. When the Master is gazing into your face, then he sees what is happening in you. When the Master is gazing into your face, he sees what is happening in you. And he smiled. And he said, "My dear, if the bird is dead or alive, that I cannot tell you, because its life is in your hands." And so it is that your life, your progress is in your hands. If you step out, or you continue. So we have to understand the values of our spirituality. The value of our life, why we are practicing, why we came here today in such unpleasant cold weather, from a far distance—coming here was not easy for you, for many. Many husbands were unhappy that their wife is going. I don’t know, but I think so. It’s like that. And many wives were jealous, and many were happy. But you understand the value, not only to see your friends and Swāmījī, but what it means to see him. You should have a value. When you want to see the cinema, you go to the cinema, you have to pay money. Why? Because you have value for that picture, otherwise you will not go. So when you come, you have some values in you. So where there is faith, faith can remove the mountains. Faith can make the dark night as moonlight. It is said in one Sanskrit poem that the lame person can climb the mountain, and the ignorant one can become a wise Lord. The blind can begin to see if your kṛpā is there, oh Lord. If your mercy is there, the fullest one can become a preacher. A paralyzed person, a lame person, can climb across the mountains. The one who is paralyzed can cross the mountain if your kṛpā is there. And the grace is only there if there is a place for kṛpā. Water, rain, falls everywhere equally. But water collects there, where it is deep. That deepness is the humbleness. Water doesn’t remain on the top of the rock. That’s the ego. Kṛpā doesn’t remain there. Values. Dr. Shanti had one wish. After the Kumbh Melā, and in the Kumbh Melā, I always said, "Wait. Time will come." And that wish was to translate one bhajan, which bhajans she sang before. And I was waiting for this evening. In life, we meet many things. I meet many people also in life. We meet good and bad people. We meet people who bring luck into our life. And we meet people who bring unluckiness in life. Some bring us sorrows, some bring us happiness. They are all existing in the world. But the greatest luck is when we see Gurudev for the first time. And our thankfulness to those who bring us or tell us about Gurudev. Who inspired us, and who first spoke about the Master? Who awoke in you this love, this interest? So, the luckiest day is when we meet the Gurudeva. Mahāprabhujī said, "I had darśana of Gurudeva." Do you know what Milana means in Czech? It means something different. In Hindi, Milana means to bring together, to come together, join together, mix together—sugar and milk. To mix sugar and milk, that is Milana. I had a darśan of Gurudeva. What a meeting! What a coincidence! What luck! And what a happiness! I am constantly approaching him, going towards him. You have awakened me. You have awakened me so that I am not at all anymore in sleepness. Sleepness means ignorance. Awaken means knowledge, realization, appreciation. I understand now the values. It doesn’t matter what it costs. I want to have that one, so I am proceeding towards him without any tiredness, without any hesitation. Open the petal of your heart. If you are not sure, open the petal of the heart. You will see a beautiful swan playing inside, enjoying, glorious, blissful. Samundar hai baḍā bhārī, it’s an endless ocean. Tiraṇā ho to aisā ho. But what a wonder that Gurudev has helped this swan to cross that ocean without anything dangerous. If you want to cross the ocean with the power of your hands through swimming, you cannot. We need some help, support. But it is said, the color of the diamond is different than the glass, but all don’t know the difference. It is not easy to know the difference between a diamond and glass. Glass and a diamond, we need an expert for that. That is why the color of the diamond is different. Only the saints know that, or the devotees, the lovers of God. So, those who have learned to know the difference between glass and diamond can decide what is the reality. And so, the saints and devotees know what is Gurudev, what is God. For others, it is like a piece of glass. They don’t understand. They are still ignorant; they are not awakened. Duniyā dhyāna hai, bhārī dhāraṇā ho to aisā ho. And what a beautiful meditation, if you have learned from Gurudeva. Nothing is more joyful than that meditation. Śākṣībhāva meditation. This morning we had Śākṣībhāva. What a beautiful park there is. Where there are beautiful blossoms, many different kinds of blossoms. And that garden is watered by my concentration. And that garden is guided by my concentration, through my look, the look of the Gurudeva. His Kṛpā gazing is watering these beautiful flowers. And that’s why they are very beautiful. These flowers need the water of love. And that is your attention. That is your devotion. Without doubts, pureness. Pure love, not with doubts. What a wonderful watering of the kṛpā. If you want to be in love, then be in love with the Brahman, the Supreme God. Dīvānā dekhle sārī, oh meek one, look at all this in this world, what’s happening. You are crazy in love, in material love. Look what’s happening there. If you will love the Brahman, not the Brahmin, but the Brahman, the sound of the Gujjatā is very heavy. What a beautiful resonance there is. One of the best melodies. The best melody, what a beautiful play. When that love awakens in you, only then can you hear that resonance. And that love is never disappointed. I asked today one girl, "How are you?" "Very good, very good, and disappointed." I said, "Oh, my dear one, why are you disappointed? From what?" "From everything." As a thank you to Mahāprabhujī, that you are disappointed from everything. Now your spiritual steps begin. That’s it. Because Kabīr Dās Jī said, the street of love is so narrow, two cannot walk together. Two have to become one. So either you love the Brahman or the Brahmin. Of course. We are mortal beings. We have our body, and our body requires many things: water, juice, Coca-Cola, everything. That is a daily requirement: your husband, your wife, your children. You must love them and be happy with them. I do not mean this love for the Brahman. The love for the Brahman is a different love. It is not a physical love. Love for the Brahman is devotion. It is the aim of our life, the source of our life. That’s it. Continuously, every day, see that divine flame of the Brahman, the light. Ramevaha apo avināśī ramaṇa ho to aisā ho, and there is Avināśī playing. Avināśī means the everlasting one. That can never be destroyed. And when you become one with that One, then you also become the Everlasting One. That Love has no end. There is no mystery, no sorrow. Ramevaha avināśī, he is playing there, the Immortal One. Ramaṇa, aho to aisā ho, what a wonderful play. Āgam kī khul rahī bārī, brahm kī ṭūṭ gaī tārī. The window is opening in the future. The window of the future is now opening in front of you. Before, there was a thick wall and curtains. But now, since you use this technique, the window is opening to the future. And there were some iron nets, and now these iron nets are vanished; they are broken. You know very well about the Iron Curtain. Now, we do a lot of us not there with him. Jelly’s name, Rashad, I didn’t. Curtains, he’s really Zim-Za. The story: all Western Europe was behind the Iron Curtain, so I was up on our Europe. I’d be like, "Is that a jelly’s in service?" And all Eastern Europe was in the front of the Iron Curtain. Curtain, cello, Eastern Europe, a stylus, pretty jelly’s in service, yes. So it depends who was behind and who was in the front. That’s it. See how you see. But that’s removed. And so this curtain is removed from you. O my dear one, think over, understand, what everlasting one is there, unbreakable one. How is that eternity here? Milā Gurudeva Purīṣapura Nijananda Jilmila Nūra. I met my Gurudeva Śrī Devpurījī. I met my Gurudeva Śrī Devpurījī Jilmila Nūra. He is Nūr. Nūr means shining. He is shining. He is radiating, like sunlight radiating. Dīp abadekālo dīptā dikhānā ho to aisā ho. Mahāprabhujī said to himself, His name is Dīp. Dīp means the light, the flame. And now he said to himself, "O flame, O light, now look to the light. Look how bright it is, the light. You are also the light, but look, the Gurudeva’s light. Now both lights are so bright, there is no night anymore. So there is no more fight." And if this happened to us, is it all right? Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavad Gītā, Dev Purīṣa Mahādeva Gītā. And therefore, we will see the Kumbha Melā. So, it is in your hands how you are: happy or unhappy, satisfied or not satisfied, angry or sad, in doubt or in harmony. It is you, my dear, who creates the inner atmosphere and the outer atmosphere. No one is there to be blamed. Only blame yourself. Therefore, happy or unhappy, this is just a matter of thinking. Whether you are happy or unhappy is only a matter of thinking. You trained your thoughts. When you have unhappy thoughts, you switch them off and turn on the light of happiness. How is it easy? Just change the dress. That’s it. So, it is depending on the thinking, and there is the brain’s thinking center that changes the whole biological system in the body. All different glands begin to react differently. So it is a matter of thinking, and Patañjali says of it that these are the vṛttis. Two kinds of vṛttis: kliṣṭa and akliṣṭa vṛttis. Good vṛttis and negative vṛttis. So you can change. You can take glasses on to read properly, and you can take them out. That’s called the master. Swami means master of oneself. You take the vṛttis out and the other vṛttis in. Therefore, I always told you in the beginning when I came to your country: Always sing happy bhajans. Now. Yeah.
