Appreciate What You Have

The beauty of satsaṅg and conscious living is often best perceived from a fresh perspective. Outsiders can help one see the familiar anew. The atmosphere of satsaṅg and the shared bond within the spiritual family is special and incredible. This connection is ever-present, as the teacher remains aware of all that occurs. This time together is for relaxation, shared company, and enhancing spirituality. Leave worries behind and be fully present. Practice conscious living continuously by maintaining awareness and mantra during all activities. Each moment has its own purpose; be fully in it. This program, while a holiday, presents a beautiful challenge to enjoy with heightened awareness, recognizing the divine in all experiences.

"Keep your awareness on what you’re doing, and just learn from everything."

"Enjoy but with awareness, and with whom I’m dealing; it’s just another aspect of God."

Filming location: Croatia

When I come from outside and see the atmosphere in the āśrams, I realize that when you are inside something, you can’t quite see its beauty like you can when you see it from outside. I know when people come to Sydney, where I’m from, they say, "Oh, we have to see this, and we have to see that." And I think, why would you want to do that? Let's rest. You don’t appreciate what you have yourself in that place. Those from outside come, and somehow they make you see it again in a different way. I don’t know if I can describe to anyone how beautiful it is to come into those satsaṅgs and into that energy. Coming to a new place you’ve never been to before and having that atmosphere that is there in the ashram is quite incredible. I would just try to remind everybody not to forget that special relation which is between everybody, and that bond which is there with Swāmījī. In all the programs that I’ve been in, you can feel that Swāmījī is also a part of the program. He keeps showing it to me by coming on Skype occasionally and just giving a complete summary of what was said for the last two days in the satsaṅg in two minutes. He was knowing every point which was being said. So it’s special. Just during this week, it will be relaxing, but also take the chance to enjoy each other’s company and enjoy that special thing which is satsaṅg—good company, true company, having this family and sharing time together, and sharing it doing something to enhance our spirituality and enhance our path. Hopefully, everybody left all of their troubles, all of their worries and everything on the dock where you got on the ferry. I think no one will take them there, so you can get them when you go back. Take this time to be with yourself, be with this family, and to enjoy, do some yoga, and relax. But we practice yoga in daily life, which means that it has to be practiced all the time. So just keep your awareness, keep it mindful. Keep yourself mindful of the fact that even when you are swimming, even when you are walking, even when you are just sitting and looking at the sunrise or the sunset, keep your mantra running, keep your connection with Swāmījī, and keep your awareness on what you’re doing, and just learn from everything. If the sun is rising and you’re looking at the beauty of the sunrise, then enjoy it to its full. That’s not the time to think about what will be for breakfast. The time to think about what will be for breakfast is just as you are sitting at the table already. Every moment for its own purpose. It was such an enthusiasm; it was so beautiful. Hardly any satsaṅg is under four hours. I think it was in EAD, there was a special, then I took the emergency brake. They had chosen a special topic: eye exercises, yoga exercises for the eyes. So then we made the first hour questions and answers, then three hours the workshop, and then we started the satsaṅg. So after five and a half hours, I wasn’t quite exhausted. It’s such a beautiful, really, I can really exactly say what Jasrat Purījī said: I so enjoy this spiritual thirst. This mutual respect and support is what I felt everywhere. Because of some events about which you all know, I was first a little bit worried, but it was just the opposite. I had the feeling it was more beautiful than ever. And something which is also new for me is actually now my cooperation with Jasric Burici. We were several years together in Jadon, but we had completely separate jobs. And now, I think not only do we both really enjoy this, he always says, playing tennis. So I can say I’m really happy, and I always say in a funny way, Swāmījī is so merciful, he fills each and every wish that you have. Even those which you don’t have, because it was never in my life my wish to travel, but now I am doing it and enjoying it. So, I’m very happy to be with you. How do you feel? I do it first. No, this can be after. One, two. Gajanājī, he just said about fulfilling Swāmījī’s fulfilling the wishes. It’s true. I had about three wishes before, about one year ago. One was to see the Adriatic coast, so done. Another one was to see Budapest. That was a wish I had for twenty years. It’s also done. And the third one was to go walking in the Alps, and that was also done on the way by some strange people. Although I don’t know how I managed, because I’m so scared of heights, and I didn’t actually think about it when I said yes. I was telling people that I was actually drunk. Because it was in Maribor, and we had satsaṅg for Devpurījī and Mahāsamādhi until midnight. And it was so much energy and fun there that I was drunk on the atmosphere. And then suddenly they said, "Do you want to go walking in the Alps in the morning?" I said yes, and ten minutes later I realized that they dropped me where I was staying, and I didn’t have anyone’s phone number, and I couldn’t say no anymore. So somehow everything comes, but really, a long, long time, since about ten years, people... I have always been saying about the Adriatic coast and about Zagreb, and I’m very happy to be here. Every day, a hundred vṛttis more come, but at least one vṛtti less comes. Śrī Dīpadāyālū ke caraṇ kamal me, Śrī Dīpadāyālū caraṇ kamal me, merī kismet jāgī. Ākhyā Satguru caraṇam melagī. Gadzjanand said it would be nice to put a question mark in a question mark. And then he answered, "Yes," and then the answer will be on Vivek Pūpuljī. That’s his name, so it means no question. Asato mā sad gamaya, tamaso mā jyotir gamaya, mṛtyor mā amṛtaṃ gamaya... Akālabhyakāla Kherareṅ Dina... Bir Kale Jokha, Bir Kale Jodja, Just thinking about the big contrast between the program which we had the last two weeks, especially the Kriyā Anuṣṭhān program, and now here, more like a holiday program. When I look back in my own life, I have really to think hard: when did I have, last time, something like holidays? This is funny, somehow. I mean, when I lived in India... Every time I came to Europe, it was only holidays by itself, and when we have the Kriyānuṣṭhāna program, every year I always participated in that. That is very demanding. It’s a quite tight schedule, and always running from one program to the next to keep the discipline and to keep the concentration on what you are concentrating on during this Kriyānuṣṭhāna program. And I was thinking now, what is actually the point here of our seminar? It came to my mind, I think it was two years ago, that a similar program was in Pashman. I was not there, but I remember, I watched some webcasts, and I remember, I think it was on the first day, Swāmījī’s speech. And it was a little bit strong, not to say shocking, therefore I remember that. Everyone was just happy and was going swimming. And Swāmījī was very strict. He said, "You don’t respect the water." You should not just, like a worldly person, jump in it, but you should greet it and so. And I think what Swāmījī wanted to say with this is just to bring awareness to what we are doing. Nothing wrong to enjoy what we are given, but to think, who is the giver? And to receive it consciously and to thank; this beautiful nature is just the beauty of God. And in Hamburg, where we have lots of rain, long ago I said to the people, "That’s just the wet aspect of God." And as Swāmījī often emphasizes in the morning, before you step on the ground, greet Mother Earth. When you first time touch the water, then actually you greet the water element. And what I very often observed when I was in India with Holy Gurujī, in the evening when it became dark and the light was lit, every time Holy Gurujī very reverently greeted the light. So, you could bring us to the formula: we are now here in a much stronger Māyā than it is in the Kriyānuṣṭhāna program. And that means for us, we need more awareness, not to get drowned in that. And I think it’s a very beautiful challenge for us, to enjoy but with awareness, and with whom I’m dealing; it’s just another aspect of God. If someone tells me something, who is actually telling me? Maybe someone wants to tell me through this person. So there were some thoughts about the specialty of this program which we are having here now.
