New Year Blessing from Nepal

The Ānandamaya Kośa is a crossroads presenting a choice. The five sheaths constitute the human temple. True beauty lies in spiritual qualities like devotion and discipline, which transform the inner instrument and allow the soul to feel joy. At the crossroads, the path of ascent leads to liberation, while the path of descent leads back to the cycle of birth and death. The intellect, mind, vital energy, and physical body cannot provide the final decision. The choice comes from the inner, sattvic intuition urging one toward the positive path of satsaṅg. Time is a creation of the mind; reality is the unchanging, eternal one. Life is given to realize the ultimate truth. One must purify the inner instrument, relinquish negative tendencies, and follow the Guru's instruction to discern the difference between the soul and the transient.

"Ānandamaya Kośa is like a crossroads. You see the two paths in front of you."

"Where there is time, there is change, and where there is change, there is no reality."

Śrī Śrī Dev Purīṣa Mahādevakī, Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavānakī, Satya Sanātana Dharmakī. Blessed Self, dear spiritual seekers, good evening and blessings to all of you. All the brothers and sisters around the world, blessings are coming to you from the Holy Land, Nepal, the Divine, the Gracious Mountain, Annapurna. You are all fortunate ones, that at the end of this year 2011 and the beginning of 2012, you will spend time here in the Holy Land, the land of the Ṛṣis, the land of the great Yogīs, the land of the Lord Śiva. Bhagavān Śiva is known as the King of the Himalaya. Bhagavān Śiva is the King of the entire universe. But the manifestation of Lord Śiva is just here in the Holy Himalaya. Welcome, all of you. Let’s speak first about our Pañcakośa: Annamaya, Prāṇamaya, Manomaya, Vijñānamaya, and Ānandamaya Kośa. Each of them is connected with a beautiful energy, and that energy is called the cosmic energy. The soul, what we call the Jīvātmā, is dwelling in this temple of the human body. The beauty of this temple, first, is the Pañcakośa, the Tattva, Antaḥkaraṇa, and specially the devotion, Bhakti. It is said that some people like to have ornaments and jewelry as a beauty for their body. What is a beauty for a yogī or for a brahmajñānī is bhakti, vairāgya, tyāga, tapasyā, dayā, dharma, sadācāra, etc. The glory and beauty of human life is to follow, practice, discipline. Then this beauty will transfer into your antaḥkaraṇa: manas, buddhi, citta, ahaṅkāra, and the glorious, the divine soul, which is the ātmā. The ātmā’s existence will feel immense joy, and the time of joy will pass beautifully and very quickly. Ānandamaya Kośa is like a crossroads. You walk, you drive on one path, and suddenly there is one way separating. You see the two paths in front of you. You are standing at the milestone where two directions change. There is a signboard, an indication for both ways. Now, you decide to take what you want to take. And that is Apavargah and Svargah, or you can say Pataṇa and Uṭhāna. Now, unless our Vijñānamaya Kośa has no ideas about this, then your Ānandamaya Kośa jumps in. And Ānandamaya Kośa asks again the Vijñānamaya Kośa, "What is that?" Vijñānamaya Kośa tells, "I don’t know." It sounds good. Uṭhāna and Pataṇa go to the mind. Mind says, "As you like, I will support you both ways." Still, that jīvātmā is not sure. Your Vijñānamaya Kośa cannot give you the decision. It goes to the Prāṇamaya Kośa. Prāṇa will tell you, "Well, I cannot guide you till the end of the path. I will do my best." Like you don’t know the distance, and the tank of your car for the fuel is only for certain kilometers. It comes to the Annamaya Kośa, Sthūla Śarīra; it goes to the Indriyas, and the Indriyas lead to the Bhoga. Finally, it comes back to the current śarīra, or it comes to the annamaya kośa. Well, there are two things. Do you want to go where you have a lot of temptations and enjoyments, and this and that? Or do you go smoothly, very nicely, beautifully, to the light? The Karmendriya said, "Let’s go to Patañjali." Jñānendriya said, "No, let’s go to the Uṭhāna." Naraka or the Svarga. But still, you have no decisions. It is your inner intuition. It is your inner, that Sāttvik, intrinsic voice, that will tell you, "Let’s go to the Uṭhāna, to the satsaṅg." When we come to the positive way, satsaṅg. Satsaṅg is not easy to get. To find the best quality, you have to search. But there is much garbage you can go and have, but you will be sorry for that. Pavitra Bhāva, pure thoughts, bhakti, devotion in the heart, tyāga, tapasyā, renunciation, austerities, jñāna, vairāgya, knowledge, wisdom, and so on. So, my dear, the Ānandamaya Kośa shows you the two ways. One will lead to the Supreme, and one will lead again to the cycle of the eighty-four lakhs of birth and death. The decision is yours. Well, our limited knowledge, our limited experiences, we say, "Why not? Let’s go back to the 8.4 million cycle. Enjoy the cycle." Then, the inner self, the jīvātmā, tells, "My dear, have you any ideas about the past?" Say no, past is gone. Let’s try again, future. Said yes, but the past will become the future one day, and the future will become the past again one day. Remember, my dear all, from the beginning till the end of 2011, the beautiful, the divine experiences of your life, or the time, or remember if you had some uncomfortable, painful experiences. Time goes and time goes. Well, once a bhakta asked Bhagavān Śiva, "Lord, what is the time? I am already so old, many, many years past, 500 years. But you are saying the 500 years is just nothing; it goes like that. Twelve months was a long period, but today it seems it was just like that. It was yesterday. But if you think it was very long..." Śiva said, the time is created by the human mind. There is no time; we are all beyond time, one without a second. Where there is time, there is change, and where there is change, there is no reality. Brahma Satya, Jagat Mithya. That unchangeable, which we call Ekam Nityam, is only the one and everlasting. Akhaṇḍa, unbreakable, unchangeable. What is changing is not reality. So you are not bound by time, and if you want to know time, then you have to take birth and go through these miseries. "No, Lord, I am not satisfied with this. Let me tell you, how is your time? What are you counting?" Bhagavān Śiva said, "Can you swim?" He said, "Yes, beautiful lake." Then, take a dip in the water. Subhakta, the person, he dived down into the water. Bhagavān said, "Hold your breath as long as you can comfortably, and then come back, come out." So, he is diving. It was about 40 seconds. Now, what he experiences in 40 seconds, that is a very interesting time. He felt that he died. He died, he went to the astral world, and he had a long, long time to work out all his destinies from this life, past lives, years and years and years past. Then he was born as a farmer, had a beautiful life, very good, and had a few children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. And then one day, again, he died. Everyone has to die. Who came will go, and who goes will come. All is happening within 40 seconds, Dr. Śāntījī. Yes? Rozumiesz? Rozumiesz, dobra. Then he was born again, he died as a farmer, having a very nice, happy childhood, young life, married, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Died. Again, he had to do a lot of work in the industrial world to settle all his karmas. Then he was born as a person, what we call, a nomad, or like a gypsy. It means not standing at one place, traveling. A few days in Pokhara, then a few days somewhere else, in Kathmandu, India, and so on. He had a few donkeys, a wife, children, and a big family with brothers and sisters, and he was traveling. All is happening in forty seconds. Once they came somewhere and made their camping there, outside of the village. In that city, the king was living, and the king died. The king had no successor and no children. The king loved his elephant very, very much. He had one elephant which was very loyal to him, and he loved him very much. And when he did not know what to do, he went to his elephant and sat with him, speaking as if to a friend. So the king wrote in his testament, "When I die, only my elephant has the right to choose the successor." And in that it was written, give a flower garland, a beautiful flower garland, to the elephant in his trunk. And on whose neck the elephant will give the garland, that one should be the king. Now, who doesn’t want to become a king? Many, many men and women came; some were dressed nicely, like kings and all, blim-blam. Expectation, and sometimes the expectation leads to disappointment. They announced that today our future king will be chosen, and they gave the garland to the elephant. The elephant was moving his head like this, took the garland, and touched his forehead to receive a blessing and to bless the garland. That elephant was saying, it seems, that it should be the right person for the kingdom. Now, the elephant had a garland in his trunk and was walking. All was going close and making like this, like this. The mighty elephant was just moving, looking, balanced. How, you know how an elephant is walking? Not nervous, not at all. Well, there were a few thousand people, but he went through and all remained behind. The person who was walking with the family as a Narmadā also wanted to come to the ceremonies of the new king. And so he was walking and also coming. The elephant walked straight to that man and stood there near him. The man wanted to go out of his way. On this side and that side, the elephant didn’t let him go, and then the elephant turned and looked at all the people, and he showed the garland to all. They said, "What is the elephant doing now?" He put the garland around the neck of that man, and he became king. Well, all came and congratulated him, and with great ceremony they brought him and put him on the throne of the king. He was surprised that now he is king. He enjoyed the king’s life. His wife became a king, a queen, a big kingdom. One day, everyone had to die. He died. He was so sad that I left my kingdom. Very sad, and he came out of the water. God Śiva looked at him and smiled. "Now, do you know the time?" He said, "What? I am looking for my kingdom." He said, "No, no. How many lives have you passed? Within some seconds." So, my dear, this life goes like this. Time doesn’t wait. But that one will become the king, meaning the self-realized one. Who will lead life very simply and without expectation. So, the new year is just standing in front of the door, and our old year, or the last year, will very soon be the past year. Already, we are packing our things and closing the chapter of our year 2011. But did you write in your chapter what it was? That will be recorded in your memory of Vijñānamaya Kośa, and your Ānandamaya Kośa will either be in ānanda, or you will take it with you as sorrows or troubles. Therefore, the Ānandamaya Kośa is that path which should lead us to Brahman, which should lead to Brahma, not to Māyā. Life is given to us all to realize that ultimate truth. That’s Ātmā. Ko’ham? Katham idaṁ jātaṁ? Ko ve kartā śrī vidyate? Who am I? From where do I come? For what did I come here, and what am I doing? Do you know where we will go? We don’t know. Then follow the Satguru Dev. Follow the instruction of the Guru Dev. So Gurujī said, "Mahāprabhujī, Ātmā bedā bhūt he, hath choḍ manā cal, saṅg toī ātmā bedā bhūt āvat. Bolo śānti tub jaya raho, sahudeh karno me brahma sabdur karāvat he. Panch Tattva kā banā pinjarā, hath choṛā, mana chalā. Saṅgam toī ātmā ved batāvat hai." Therefore, Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Mahāprabhujī said, "Oh my mind, give up now the haṭṭā which you have, which you have tṛṣṇā, which you have vāsanā, bhoga, kāma, krodha, lobha, moha, ahaṅkāras. Give up this and come to Ātmā Bheda." Bheda means the differences. What is the difference between Ātmā, Jīvātmā, body, mind, etc.? My dear ones, I wish you all the best and a very happy, prosperous new year. First of all, God bless you with good health, peace, harmony, and spiritual development. These blessings will be effective for you if you accept now to go to the satsaṅg, develop spiritual thoughts, and purify your negative thinking. Then my words, the blessing of the Supreme, will be effective. Otherwise, the suffering is waiting for all who have anger, hate, jealousy, krodha, lobha, moha; then it cannot be. We have to purify our antaḥkaraṇa, mana, buddhi, citta, ahaṃkāra. I wish you all the best and divine blessings for that. And I pray to Almighty that in your vijñānamaya kośa, as well as in your ānandamaya kośa and manomaya kośa, all the positive and sāttvic vṛttis and energies will develop. With this, once more, I wish you a happy year 2012, and God bless you. Deep Nārāyaṇa Bhāgavā Kī Jaya, Devaiśvara Mahādeva Kī Jaya, Mādhav Kṛṣṇa Bhagavān Kī Jaya, Satya Sanātana Dharma Kī Jaya. Now, in a few different languages, your friends will announce you wherever you are: a happy new year. So from my side, Happy New Year, and Nava Varshā Kī Śubhakāmanā, and in German I can also say, All the best, a happy new year with many successes and spiritual experiences. All your wishes will come true when you develop in your Vijñānamayakośa and your Ānandamayakośa positive thoughts, peace, love, dedication, and when you regularly visit your satsaṅg and also perform your exercises. It is not a gift. Do not think that, okay, now we have received a lot of blessings and now we will get everything. No, we all have to work for that. All the best, and I will now give you our Sādhvī Ānandī, that she will come and wish you in creation and all slow action. Yugoslavian language is more or less Croatian, so you can please come and give good wishes to your brothers and sisters, all who speak this language. [The transcript continues with blessings in Croatian, Czech, and other languages, concluding with a peace mantra and final benedictions.]
