What is the use of wife, wealth, sons, grandsons, and all such relations, a home, and all kinsmen, if the mind is not firmly attached to the lotus feet of the Guru? What is the use? Śraddhāṅgādi vedu mukhe śāstra vidyā kavitvādi gadyam supadyam karoti manasā chena laganaṁ guru raṅgri padme tataḥ kiṁ tataḥ kiṁ tataḥ kiṁ tataḥ kiṁ videshe śūnyāḥ svadeshe sūryāḥ sadācāra viteshu matto na caṇya manas chena lagnaṁ guru rāṅgri padme tataḥ. What is the use of mastering the Vedas and scriptures with faith, or composing excellent prose and poetry, if the mind is not attached to the lotus feet of the Guru? What is the use? One may be renowned in foreign lands and shine like the sun in one's own country, and be intoxicated with righteous conduct, yet if the mind is not attached to the Guru's lotus feet, then what? Kim tathā kim tathā... kim kṣamā-maṇḍale bhūpa-bhūpāla-vṛṇḍe sadā sevitam yasya pādāra-vṛṇḍam manas-cena-lagnam guru-raṅgri-padme tatakim tatakim... What is the use... what is the use if one's feet are always served by a circle of kings and emperors in the royal court, if the mind is not attached to the lotus feet of the Guru? What is the use?
