A Guru Pūrṇimā Address: From Water Conservation to Self-Realization

Guru Pūrṇimā unites your consciousness to the cosmic consciousness; the Guru principle is supreme. Resolve today to save water, plant at least eleven trees by next Guru Pūrṇimā, and clean your home. Memory carries the Guru’s wisdom; listen without missing even a half-word to avoid misunderstanding. Misunderstanding comes when attention is pulled elsewhere, creating gaps. Talking during satsaṅg multiplies sin; sleeping leads to lower births. The preacher speaks from smṛti; the listener receives as śrota. Desires scatter spiritual energy, causing repeated misunderstanding. Vedavyāsa incarnated on this full moon, dictating all scriptures through inner vision. This body is the field of dharma, a battlefield of qualities. Rāga and dveṣa are subtle cracks that birth kāma, krodha, lobha, moha, and ahaṁkāra. Only vairāgya, born from satsaṅg, can dissolve them. Without satsaṅg, devotion’s color does not take hold. When you taste divine wisdom’s nectar, worldly tastes become tasteless. The preacher’s seat is Vyāsagaḍī; its outpouring is timeless wisdom. Enter the Guru’s satsaṅg and you become the Guru; step away and all is lost. Therefore, satsaṅg is the greatest aid for self-realization. Follow the authentic Guru Paramparā, purifying impurities to sustain realization.

"Bin satsaṅg lāge nahī bhajan kā raṅg."

"Those who enter into the Gurudev’s satsaṅg and listen to the wisdom of the Gurudev, they become themselves the Gurudev."

In every home we have the birthday ceremony for everyone. Guru Pūrṇimā is that which unites the aspirants’ consciousness to the cosmic consciousness. Guru tattva is the highest tattva. Prasāda garo. Nīche īṭ mel di padhi. Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān e kī. Yes, brothers, everyone listen. Śānti se āp sabhī ko Guru Pūrṇimā kā Alakh Purījī, Siddha Pīṭha paramparā yānī Bhagavān Devpurījī, Bhagavān Dīp Nārāyaṇa Mahāprabhujī aur apne ārādhye Sat Gurudev Gurudev Svāmī Madhavānandjī Bhagavān kā Siddha Pīṭha paramparā pīne kī samasyā hai. Us pānī ko cār bhāg meṃ bāṭā hai, blue water. Green Water Mahāprabhujī, Karatā Mahāprabhujī, Karatā. The water that flows from the sun to the sky is called blue water. The government has given a friend. The government is you. You voted for a good person, and he tries to become a minister. But we are spoiling the water. We are not repairing the pipes here. Our pipes are running, water is going somewhere. What to do with Ashok Gailot, or what to do with our other leaders? It is not good to give a friend to any of these leaders. Give a friend to yourself, so our … Today’s resolution is that we will save as much water as possible. Did you understand or not? The second thought that I have today is that I have planted the Śānti tree in the prāṅgaṇ of the United Nations, and it has been so glorified by the people that they have accepted it. Till today, I have planted 62 Śānti trees in different states, in different countries, in different big cities. So today, on the occasion of this Guru Pūrṇimā, all of us in the world, all of our followers, all of our followers of Yoga in Delhi Life, all of them have been urged—I am telling you also—that we should plant as many trees as possible, but at least you have to plant 11 trees by the next Guru Pūrṇimā. Now, wherever you plant, plant in the forest, plant in the field, plant in the house, plant all together, plant all together... So, if you plant 11 plants, even if you plant seeds, plant 11 buds here and there, they will grow in the rain. And if you plant more, it is a matter of even more happiness. Ten days before the next Guru Pūrṇimā, you can use your paper, telephone, SMS, or e-mail. So, here in Viśvadīp Gurukul, I have to send that I have planted so many trees this year. And in the whole world, where our students are in 180 countries, I have also convinced them today. I have made a resolution, and I am giving it that they too will plant trees. So next year, see how many lakhs or how many crores of trees will be planted. This is our one plus point. We take this conclusion. The second conclusion is that we ourselves should clean our house and the area in front of the house, including the coconut trees. I know that we were small. Our mothers used to sweep the house every day. Siddhapurījī, Siddhā Karatā Prabhu Dīp Karatā Mahāprabhujī Dīp Karatā He Kevalam. Deep Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān Kī, Dev Purīṣa Mahādev Kī, Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandjī Bhagavān Kī, Bhagavān Śaṅkarācārya Jī Kī, Kapil Bhagavān Kī, Bhagavān Vaiśvyās Muni Mahārāj Kī, Sat Saṅg Kā Ānand Hume Midrā Hai, Us Kā Koī Pār Hī Nahī̃ Hai. But in whose heart, in whose consciousness, there is the awareness that I am a grain of sand in a mountain of sugar, that what is that mountain of sugar like, how is it, that it is very sweet, it is nectar, and what is a grain of sand, I am a grain of sand in a mountain of salt. They have said that it is very bitter, very bitter. But we are happy in that. There is nothing more delicious than that. So the mountain girl of Egypt, Chithi, says to the salt girl, "Sister, I invite you. You come with me, and I will taste the taste of your nectar." Okay, I will go. But what did he think? That mountain of Egypt, I don’t know what its taste is. I will die of hunger, so he put two big sacks of salt in his mouth. I will eat when it is necessary. On going there, the letter of the mountain of Egypt says to him, Namaskāra dhīlā tab kā ke hīnā ne bāre thūk kullā kar mū śāpha kar, acittarā mū sāpha karāyā, phir miśrī ko dhīlā diyo to ke harre o ho ho... Kain Swaad, Kain Swaad, main to dhaniyā ho gai. Ye Swaad chāk karke to jo satsaṅg mein ātā hai, aur mann ke andar namak rūpī dheela leke ātā hai, aur viśvās nay raitā hai, purī jī karatā hai. To hune to kaḍhoiś lage, mitho ko nī lage. To isliye kaī ki candan makkhī par pare, durgandhi vahāṁ uḍ jāye. Unke uḍ jāye, yā to nīnd āye, yā uḍ ke calā jāyegā, yā bāte karegā, because there is no color in it, there is no color in the satsaṅg. Rangrejā gave such a color, reddish reddish. Now, that colorful Satguru Dev, who gives such a color to his heart through his knowledge of Amṛtavāṇī, that then there is no other color, and he does not get tired. Thousands of people came in the day, but we all got tired of saying, "Sit quietly, sit quietly." But who is there? The matter is going on. Now we are in a very peaceful state of mind. In English it is called Pinsilent. Because there is a color of satsaṅg in your heart. So friends, satsaṅg is unique to the Devas. Devas also say that we have come to heaven by doing karaṇī. But after enjoying the pleasures of heaven, one will have to go again to the cycle of eighty-four lakhs. O Lord, please bestow human life, through which, by performing satsaṅg and practicing devotion to the Guru, we may attain liberation. Because heaven is not liberation; in heaven too there is a limit to enjoyment. And liberation is that which becomes a part of the Mokṣa, and after that, it becomes Brahmaleena. So when Mahāpuruṣa leaves the body, then how can he go to heaven? Saints always stay in heaven. Saints and soldiers guard the world, but the inhabitants are heedless. Saints and soldiers guard the world, but the inhabitants are heedless. Our Guru Nānak Sāhib said, "Sadā Dīvālī Santren Hatoin Bār Tewār, Ānand Kare Sa Dujan Dukh Pāve Sansār." So, Ānand is Ānand. So, you have listened to the bhajan well. Our respected Saint Kailāś Purījī Mahārāj is from Kharāḍī village. And earlier, you had listened to the bhajan well. Some small children were also singing. You had listened to it. Very good. But I wanted to say that the satsaṅg has been going on since yesterday, i.e., the satsaṅg has been going on for about 35 hours, but our foreign devotees have not touched even a single one of them. Did you see? If they talk like this, they talk like this, even though they don’t understand our language. Now I am saying something; they don’t have to understand. It is like this, my son is saying, "Bābājī, who is speaking like this? It is good." Some say, "See, sir, Bābājī is speaking like this, Daddy, how much up and down." See, he is sitting and counting. This is the thing. Now I will speak in their language, because they came from so far away, so I will make them understand a little. So you don’t talk in between. Like he is sitting, I am sitting like this, we are brothers and sisters. And how are we, brothers and sisters? In the same way, who was the disciple of Bhagavān Parśurām? Bhagavān Pārśurām Jī said, "I will take rest," so Gurujī said, "You lie on my knees." Who was it? Karṇa. And there was a test going on. Such an insect went and crossed the whole of Janga, but it was not moving; it was sitting. It was sweating, but it was sitting. Aparthā Dhorik Mām̐ Kī Baidhja Ko, Iyum Karār Barā, Mām̐ Kyā Ghanī Khaṭamāī Hṛti, Āre Satsaṅgī Hone Nī Khaṭamāī, To Khaṭamāī Ho, Isliye Thoṛā Hī Bolūṅgā, Main Bhī Thoṛā Thak Gayā Hūṅ, Jyādā Karūṅgā, Dīp Dhāraṇ Bhagavān Kī So, I was explaining to them the meaning of the satsaṅg. Today, as we all know, and the whole world knows, this full moon day is a very particular day. It is called Guru Pūrṇimā, the symbol of the Gurudev. And many saints were born on the full moon. Bhagavān Buddha was born on the full moon, and many others. On this day was born or incarnated Bhagavān Vedavyāsa. Vedavyāsa Bhagavān was a great, learned knower of all the three times: past, present, and future. It is he who dictated the Vedas, all books, Vedas, Upaniṣads, Bhagavad Gītā, Śrīmad Bhagavad Gītā. These are all the works of Vedavyāsī Mahārāj. It is said that the one who has seen Lord Kṛṣṇa will be able to understand what the Gītā is; there is no doubt about it. Krishn Jānēśu Gītā, Mātā Jānēśu Pītā. So, all these ancient scriptures were created, written, and spoken by Bhagavān Vedavyāsa around 7,000 years ago, or more than that, 8,000. Bhagavān Rāma’s time was more than 10,000 years ago. So, some say that from time to time, Vedavyāsa incarnates, as it was in the ages before the Vedas were spoken. There are certain things, it’s called Śruti, Smṛti, Śrota and Śrotriya. Śruti, Smṛti, Śrota, and Śrotriya. Śrota, śrota is all who are listening. Jo śunare hai śrota gaṇa, guru vākya, guru śabda, guru mukhāra bindu se, from Gurudev’s mouth the words come. That’s called a preacher. Yes, he is the preacher. And when the word "preacher" comes in English, it means the Śrotriya. And listeners or followers are known as śrotāḥ. So, preachers and listeners, what we call the dialogue or the gospel of the master. So, what the śrotriya, who is speaking, listening, the śrotā, the listeners... The Śrotriya speaks from the memory. That’s called Smṛti. And therefore, disciples should never miss a half word of the Gurudeva, what he is speaking. Otherwise, there will be a gap, and where there is a gap, we will make a mistake. In English, we use the word "misunderstood." What does "misunderstood" mean? There is an umbrella, and you are standing under it. Begin the rain, and you moved away and you got wet. That means actually you were not under the umbrella; you just missed it. Therefore, misunderstanding means that you did not listen carefully, you did not pay attention, you were not aware of that. Why? Because you draw your consciousness in another direction. Gurujī is speaking, and you are talking. Look what he is doing—psht! One also loses attention oneself and misguides others. Therefore, it is said in satsaṅg, if you speak to someone, you make the sin. And in our language in India we say, those who always talk in satsaṅg, in the next life will be a frog. What a frog! In the second birth, one and a half will be born. We talk a lot in satsaṅg. And those who will sleep, in the next life will become a python. And in the next life, the one who sleeps will become a tiger. And Tulsīdās Mahārāj says that if someone talks in satsaṅg, he will have double, double sin. He himself remains deprived and deprives others also. So, the śrota receives the wisdom from the śrotriya, and that śrotriya speaks from the smṛti, i.e., memory. Now, how big is your memory? You know, we have the computers, we have the SIMs, we have the little stick. A little stick, itne mein, purī library kī hajāron kitābe usī, ek choṭī sī itne mein usī record kar diyā. Aap, mera number apne telephone mein feed karo. Sahī bāte ke nahī? Please feed my cow, feed my dog. Main kal kahi gaon mein jaara hu, tumhare ghar mein kutto hai, maane aftan. Please feed my dog. Toh thāro telephone koī thāro kutto hai? Kain toh usme record kurdo, toh basāyen bhī aisī ajub ho jātī hai. And research kyā gayā hai? Very good. And many words of the English language in India, the Indians have created more English words. It was research. Because Indians have a lot of jugāṛ, they take jugāṛ and jugāṛ in the form of sudhār, anyhow. Therefore, in this śruti, smṛti, and that smṛti is the light of the Gurudev, the wisdom of the Gurudev, but slowly, slowly, we use, the Kali Yuga comes, then the humans have their attention towards the desires of the material world. When you have more desires for something, then you lose a lot of your spiritual energy and spiritual concentration, and you will be misguided, you misunderstood, you didn’t understand. It means definitely, it’s like that you share your time with other desires, and for that you never know how many times you will come back and how many times you will misunderstand. Therefore, listen carefully. So Ved Vyāsa, the Ved Vyāsa who, through his third eye, through his inner wisdom, he who spoke and wrote many, many scriptures, these are all, we Indians say, this is the creation of Bhagavān Ved Vyāsa. We say that no, this is the creation of Bhagavān. Vedas, Vyāsa, Upaniṣads, Gītā, everything is there. Here, we believe that there was no Pāṇḍavas and no Kauravas, and there was no Mahābhārata. Yes, and there was no Kurukṣetra, Dharmakṣetra. Kurukṣetra, Dharmakṣetra, this body is the Kurukṣetra. And human existence and human qualities in this body is Dharmakṣetra. So we are born in the battlefield of this world, but our body is the dharma kṣetra, the field of dharma. What kind of dharma? The human dharma. When human desires, kāma, krodha, mada, lobha, moha, ahaṁkāra, first begin, this first begins from rāga. Rāga is something like jealousy. Rāga is something, why is he happy, why not I, why Swāmījī supports this person more, why not me. A very, the rāga is a very, very gentle, very fragile, but it is said a gentle is more powerful. A small, minor crack in the building is more dangerous than a big crack. Big ones you can repair, but minor ones you cannot repair. So, this rāga, there are two kinds of rāga: one is the musical instrumental rāga, morning rāga, evening rāga, noon rāga, and so on. Other is the rāga, which is the negative, the roots of the negativity which awakens in our body. Where the rāga appears, the dveṣa, rāga or dveṣa, when the rāga and dveṣa come, then comes kāma, kāma śakti. When the rāga, dveṣa, kāma come, the krodha, and when krodha appears, comes ahaṁkāra, ego, and when the ego comes, then comes Lobha, because you fight for the lobha, kāma, krodha, madha, lobha, and moha, attachment, and you turn to the rāga. To clear up that rāga, you need the vairāgya. On the Vairāgya, you cannot achieve Mahāprabhujī’s seed. Satsaṅg nai lāg bhajan ko raṅg ve, rāge konī hove re bīṇā. Satsaṅg deep Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān kī. So there is only one remedy against rāga, dveṣa, kāma, krodha, lobha, moha, ahaṅkāra. There is one remedy, that is called vairāgya. And Mahāprabhujī said, "You cannot get vairāgya without satsaṅg. Without satsaṅg, you cannot get that color," which I told in the beginning about Kabīr Dādājī. So it is the satsaṅg. Bin satsaṅg lāge nahī bhajan kā raṅg. In the satsaṅg, you get that taste, but you have to spit out all salt. You have to make śaṅkha prakṣālana, the purification of the negative energy, and that is smṛti. So, there are many people who have a good smṛti, memory, and some people put negativity into their memory. So, as I taught this afternoon, sustainability means continuity, and in this continuity we have to purify the impurity and develop the purity, the quality, in this continuity. Then you have the utility and facilities to get your sustainability of self-realization, otherwise not. So every feeling, even if you go for half an hour or five minutes into different feelings, that is a loss of your lifetime. When there is a 100-kilometer highway with no crossing roads, and you drive at 110 kilometers per hour, you still will not reach it in one hour, as it is 100 kilometers away. Because sometimes you slow down, then you go again, and this is a very small slowing of speed, but it consumes more time. So you think, "Doesn’t matter now, I can spend a little bit for my joke." That is the last of the time idea. Therefore, it is said, one great soul very nicely said, "Abhāṁ mast hue Rām ras pīke, Rām ras pīke, moī lāge duniyā ke sab ras pīke. Abhāṁ mast bhae Rām ras pīke, Rām ras pīke, moī lāge duniyā ke sab ras pīke." So it is said, when you taste the juice, the nectar of God’s wisdom, then the worldly taste is tasteless. So, my dear ones, this is the Guru Pūrṇimā, also dedicated to Bhagavān Vedavyāsa’s incarnation day. And those who will follow this Vyāsa’s preaching will also become like Vyāsa. And this seat, the holy seat, where one, the preacher sits, where the Śrotriya sits, that seat is called Vyāsagaḍī. And what comes from Vyāsa and others is only wisdom. Automatically, it is he who speaks within the preachers. So I welcome you all to India for the Guru Pūrṇimā, those who came from different parts of the world, and also my dear brothers and sisters, spiritual seekers around the world who are with us now through this webcast. I pray to the Almighty and send you the blessings of Alakhpurījī and Siddha Pīṭha for your spiritual development, good health, harmony, and peace. Be the Bhagavān, Dīp Nārāyaṇ, Mahāprabhujī with you. Be the light of Gurudev with you. Follow the path of Guru Paramparā, which is the truth, sanātana, and living. So, but it should be authentic. The water which enters into the Gaṅgā, that water is called Gaṅgā water. But that Gaṅgā water will flow out of the Gaṅgā after some meters, no one will say it is Gaṅgā water, it is the water of the street. So those who enter into the Gurudev’s satsaṅg and listen to the wisdom of the Gurudev, they become themselves the Gurudev. And those who step out and go, then they have lost everything again. Mana sab khoyo re kushang yo ke shang, gyān dhyān bhakti sab khoyi, or chal riyo kudhang, mana sab khoyo re kushang yo ke shang. Therefore, satsaṅg is the greatest thing for humans to remain on that path of self-realization or God-realization. On this holy occasion, I bless you in the name of Alakhpurījī, Siddha Pīṭhar, and wish you all the best. God bless you. Oṁ Guru Brahma, Guru Viṣṇu, Guru Devo Maheśvara, Guru Sākṣāt Paraṁ Brahma, Tasmai Śrī Gurave, Dhyānamūlaṁ Guru Mūrtiṁ, Pūjā Mūlaṁ Guru Pādaṁ, Mantra Mūlaṁ Guru Vākyaṁ, Mokṣa Mūlaṁ Guru Kṛpā. Oṁ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ... Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavānak. Now you will have bhajans. If you like, you are welcome to sit and listen to bhajan. If you want to rest, rest is the best. Make your meditation there. Tomorrow, at 6:15 or 6:30, there should be prayer here. After prayer, Alpahār. Then after that, Hari Om, and go home and work. So, tomorrow’s program: the assembly will have āratī at 6 or 7 o’clock, then there will be a light meal, then rejoice, go home, and do the devotion of the Lord. Now, I want to take a short break because I also had a duty of 40 to 45 hours. We will take a short break now, and the singers have come very well. Singers, enjoy, and we will meet in the morning. Now, if you wish, you can stay. If you want to sing, you can come and sing. Or, if you want to greet, go to sleep, then good night. Good night. Don’t let the bugs bite, and don’t fight if they bite. Alright, and good night.
