Positive Work Will Always Help You

A satsang discourse on spiritual purification and the awakened heart.

"Satsaṅg is the highest technique of spirituality or yoga or anything you would like to achieve."

"Through this mantra, all the dust which we collect in our mind is immediately purified."

A spiritual teacher leads a satsang, explaining the concept of satsang as communion with truth and its power to remove mental pollution. He analyzes the mantra "Dīpa Nirañjana," describing it as the spotless light of purity that destroys sorrow. Key themes include the importance of righteous effort (puruṣārtha), the opening of the heart chakra (anāhata) to see divinity everywhere, and the qualities of a truly realized being.

Who is with us through the webcast? It is a blessing for all of us if we can be in the satsaṅg and listen to the satsaṅg. Satsaṅg is the highest technique of spirituality or yoga or anything you would like to achieve. When you go to the temple and there is a pūjā, singing bhajans, āratī, and some holy saint or a priest, a paṇḍit is talking, that is a satsaṅg. If you go to the mosque and the mullah is speaking about the Qur'ān and Allāh, that is a satsaṅg. When you go to the church and there is a ceremony, and the priest speaks from the Bible, that is satsaṅg. Or the people gather like you all here, and someone sits and speaks about the holy scriptures, spirituality, bhakti, karma, jñāna, etc., it is a satsaṅg. Sat means the truth, and saṅg means to be with. Satsaṅg you can do alone yourself. Read the holy books or listen to the bhajans. Nowadays, through this technology, you can see many videos which are spoken by many other holy saints. That is satsaṅg. And also, you can have a satsaṅg with two persons. Sangha means companion, or with whom you are. When you meet together, two persons, speak divine, speak spiritual, speak about God, speak about spirituality. If you meet together and begin to talk, backbite, and have negative thoughts, there is a Kusaṅga. Never let enter in your mind the reflection of the Kuṣaṅga. When you are in satsaṅg with thyself or with others, it means you are with the highest truth. Brahma satya, jagat mithyā. This world is unreality. This is not a reality. The body is not immortal. The body will go away. All your things will go away. You will remain as it is. Satsaṅg. Devatāoṅ ko bhī durlabha hai satsaṅg. It is said the goddesses came to heaven, but they are missing the satsaṅg. Heaven means just go and enjoy a happy life. And you are ever young, and you are ever joyful, and you are all the time. Of course, it is a good way. There is no other way that you cannot do your stupid things always. That is, if you have kuśaṅga thought, you are out of the heaven. There is beauty of God, there is friendliness, there is everything divine, beautiful, but no satsaṅg. So it is said, in the heaven, deva. Who is a deva? There are two kinds of devas. One is the goddesses who did good things and came to heaven. They are like goddesses, or what you call the angels. And the second Deva means Karma. Karma is Deva. God is. If people are lazy and say, "God will give me everything, and God will do it." Okay, this God will help me, or this God will help me, and this? No. It is said God is your work, your positive work that will help you always. So do not, for every little thing, run to this God and that God. There is one man living in Wellington, and he has a small, beautiful shop called Salima, and his name is Patil Naginbhai. He told a joke when I was in Australia, in Brisbane, and then we were travelling by aeroplane somewhere, and he told me a joke. That many people, after death, they were coming. So there were many people who did not think of God. God left open the door for them all to come to heaven. And there was one man; all the time he was calling God, God closed the door. He said, "God, why like this? I am all the time remembering you." God said, "That is why I do not let you in." He said, "Why?" Because you disturb me always. You do not let me sleep all the time. I am a little sleepy. He was calling me always, "Rām, Rām..." So that was a joke. So, it is your puruṣārtha. Puruṣārtha means working, active. Dharma, artha, the wealth. Karma, your karma. Dharma, artha, kāma, or mokṣa, liberation. If you do the puruṣārtha, then you will achieve. Meditation is a puruṣārtha. Practicing your mantra is a puruṣārtha. Helping someone is a puruṣārtha. To give someone kindness, humbleness, is your puruṣārtha. Or, to give someone troubles and negative things is also your puruṣārtha, but that puruṣārtha will lead you down, and good quality will lead you up. It depends on you. So, satsaṅg. Now, Gurudev said, when a human is working the whole day, moving in the saṁsāras, the saṁsāra is saṁsāra, it means there is no essence inside, śūnya, the śūnya. But our jñānendriyas, our five jñānendriyas, the five senses of knowledge—vision, sound, smell, taste, and touch—whole day we are in contact with these things. Of course, sometimes a good vision, sometimes a negative vision, sometimes a good smell, sometimes a bad smell. And according to that, we have many, many different thoughts. That is called, during the whole day or night, whenever we are active in the outer world or we are extroverted, even in our own house or flat, our mind gets pollution. You have a glass table, very nice and clean. In the morning, before going to the office, you are nicely cleaned. Your windows are closed, your doors are closed, everything. In the evening, you come and you see a very fine little layer of dust on it. Similarly, though we are very careful, we are very humble, but there is always sometimes the pollution, and that is called mental pollution. Physical pollution is not so dangerous, but mental pollution is very, very dangerous. The mental pollution is the second kind of schizophrenia. Then you are fixed. You have nothing else than talking negative, backbiting, how to disturb, how to disturb them. This is schizophrenia. There are many, many mental diseases because of mental pollution. Therefore, Gurudev said in a beautiful bhajan, "Dīpa Nirañjana Sabduk Bhanjan." This is a Mahāmantra. Mahāmantra, Oṁ Prabhu Dīpa Nirañjana. Oṁ, sorry, is the cosmic resonance, the cosmic sound. Oṁ Prabhu. Prabhu is Parabrahma, Paramātmā, who incarnates on Bhoomaṇḍala. Today is the celebration of Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa's incarnation. Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa says, "Yadā yadā hi dharmasya glāniḥ bhavati bhārata. O Arjuna, whenever the religion, dharma, is suffering and adharma is there, righteousness is moved, then I manifest myself through my yoga māyā," and so. I congratulate all of you and bless you in the name of Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa. Very soon, He will be coming to bless this earth. So Prabhu, Parabrahma, Paramātmā, who incarnates, comes to Bhūmaṇḍal, Bhūmaṇḍal means the earth. Dīpa is the light, the universal light. Oṁ Satya Brahma Paripūraṇa Dīpa Jyoti. Oṁ Prabhu Dīpa Nirañjana. That light of the eternal truth is spotless, crystal clear. That is pure Ātmā Jñāna. Other is all is polluted. There is a rañj. There is a rañj. Rañj means the spots. Nirañjan is without spot. That light of God, which, if we can realize, then you see purity everywhere. There is no negativity. Negativity is within our consciousness, because we always think negatively, always try to have a trick, always try to talk, you know, this person is not good, we should do like that, we should do that, this I do not like, that we do not like, this we do not want. This is constantly rubbish things going on, putting in the rubbish bin. So dīpa nirañjan, so nirañjan, when you have this light in your heart, in your mind, then there is purity, dīpa nirañjan. Sab dukha bhanjan. When purity is achieved, then all dukha, all troubles are removed automatically, like we put on this light and darkness disappears. So we have to have that glimpse, that light of the truth of the ātmā, ātma jñāna. So, how to achieve this? When do we know? On the day when we know that now I am self-realized, go down. Never say you are self-realized. A great one will never say, "I am a great one." The New Zealand Prime Minister will come and say, "You know, I am the Prime Minister of New Zealand. What do you think?" We will never see. See, you see, no? The Prime Minister, you see here? He. Yeah. So that we all know. Therefore, bade bade nahīṁ kare. The great one will never say, "I am great. I am a great guru." I am Ātmā Jñānī. I am saying that is the truth. They are what others are telling is nonsense. That means in these seeds there is no oil. They are oil-less seeds. Bade badāī nah kare aur badāne bole bol. We will never speak higher above oneself. There was a great poet, his name was Rahim Dās. He said, "Rahim and Hira kab kahe?" Rahim Das said, "When does a diamond tell us that I am a diamond?" And a diamond will never say, "My price is this." We acknowledge this is a diamond and this is a piece of glass. But you should know, you should know the difference between the glass and the diamond. Only that jeweler who has knowledge about what is a precious stone, what is a diamond, and what is not a real diamond, and this diamond, how pure it is. We think whatever is reflecting is a diamond. Therefore, only a bhakta in whose heart is purity will know, yes, this is a holy saint. One who is fighting to become a holy saint is not. No fighting. Never fight for a position. Just others will bring you there. You do not say? That is very important. So, Dīpa Nirañjana Sab Dukha Bhanjan, isī mantra se, hove man mañjan. Through this mantra, all the dust which we collect in our mind is immediately purified. What happens then? Hṛde kamal kī āṅkh khul jāve anāhad cakra. Hṛde means the heart, āṅkh means the eye. That opens. When the anāhata chakra is opened, then you are in the divine nectar, the ocean of nectar. The unfoldment of the lotus of the heart always brings such beauty. Hṛde kamal kī āṅkh khul jāve, eye opens. What does that mean? When you open your eyes, you see God in everyone. But in this eye, you see what you like. Therefore, it is said, "Jaisī dṛṣṭi, vasī sṛṣṭi." Sṛṣṭi means the creation. Srasti means this world. With which kind of look you are looking, like that you will see this world. Because we do not know yet. There were three or four blind people who went to see the elephant. And they went, and they touched the elephant, and they came back. So they asked, "Did you see that elephant?" "No, we did not see, but we could say that we have seen, we met the elephant." Can you describe? He said, "No, elephant is only the pillars, because elephant legs." Others say, "No, no, the elephant is a very long, big rope. It is the tail of the elephant." Others say, no, my friend, there is no elephant, it is a water tank, big. Others say it is a water hose, so the, sorry, so the pillar is like legs, the rope is the tail, the tank is the trunk, the stomach, and the hose is the trunk of the elephant. So, what they saw with this, they are filling Jñānendriya with a touch, they could not see the reality. Then they send one person more. Can you go and find the elephant, if it is good or not? Because the people who brought the elephant want to sell it. So, one man said, "I am very good, I am a property dealer, I have a real estate, immediately I can tell what is good and what is not good." It is not good. So there were four or five people who brought the elephant to sell it, and they heard that an expert is coming. He went around the elephant, and they said, "What is it? Is something wrong?" He said, "Yes." So they said, "We give you $500. Please do not tell what is wrong in the elephant." He went again. And then they said, "What did you find?" "No, something missing." Again he went. Five times he went, and every five times he got some money because they wanted to sell the elephant, so that he would tell the mistake. My disadvantage does not function; this does not function. The real estate people can find many things. So the people who wanted to sell the elephant, they say, "Sir, can you tell us what is a mistake in this elephant?" He said, "It is a big mistake. What?" I cannot understand which is the front side of the elephant and which is the back side of the elephant. They said, "Yes, we can tell you if you give all the money back." So he went home and brought all the money and gave it back. Then they took their elephant and went. He said, "Hey, tell me, which is your front side?" They said, "Which side he is going is the front side." So, everyone whose Anāhata Chakra is not open judges differently. So, hṛde kamal kī āṅkh khul jāve, anāhat cakra when opens, then you see the ātmā, ātmā soi pramātmā, viśu prāṇī merī ātmā hai, every entity is myself, and ātmā hī pramātmā, this ātmā is the pramātmā, that time we call a Holy heart, that time we call the heart of mercy. Everyone says, "Merciful Mary," "Mercy of Holy Mary." It is a mantra they are repeating, and it is because she is a divine mother and she had such great mercy in her heart. But everyone, the human heart has an immense amount of mercy, but it is polluted through this mind. And this mind is dealing with the jñāna-indriyas, and the jñāna-indriyas are polluted with the kāma-indriyas or karma-indriyas, selfishness, these, that, many, many things. And therefore the jñāna-indriyas have got what you call the gray star. So when the gray star is there, even a doctor cannot operate. They say, "Now we cannot operate this." And you have gray stars, and you cannot see; you see everything dark. So to see the light of God in everyone and see the Divine in the Master or in Sadgurudev, we need to open our heart chakra, Anāhata chakra. Anāhata means the boundaryless. There is no border, limitless. Anāhata nāda. Then that Anāhata nāda awakes in our Anāhata chakra. When the Anāhata Chakra is awakened, then the first thing is that one becomes a great poet. Gyānānand, yesterday I met your father, and he is a great poet, and definitely his Anāhata Chakra is really awakened. Maybe you see it or not, but I can see how he is humble. How kind is he, and who has Anāhata Chakra open? Him, no more greed, Santosh, Santoshi Narasadasa. When Anāhata Chakra is open, you can write beautiful bhajans. Otherwise, everything is blocked. When Gurujī was speaking, giving satsaṅg, while giving satsaṅg, he could create a bhajan and talk in the bhajans. When a Sanskrit scholar, a wise one... There are two kinds of Sanskrit scholars. One is only dry intellect. It says, "I know whole śāstras, I read this, I read this, I know Vedas, I know Upaniṣads, and I know..." What is "I"? That is called a dry intellect. That is called a library worm. There are two kinds of learned people, or the wise ones. One is called Vācaratī and one is called Lakṣaratī. The Vācaratī is that who reads and talks, writes everything and then reads. Ladies and gentlemen, I am very happy to see you today. And you know that our planet is suffering from pollution. We have to work for the environment. I am very happy to be here, you know. So, you know, reading, that was not his or her lecture. The secretary prepares, and the secretary prepares, and the protocol passes, and then he has to go like this. Maybe otherwise he begins to talk stupid things. The president and the prime minister of the country, or representative of the country, even the ambassador, when he speaks, has to have this protocol because sometimes out of emotion you can take something. But the senses are free. The jñānī is free. The senses are free. They speak the language of love, and they can make a joke, they can be strict, they can do many things. The artist and the senses have a freedom. When a poet writes poetry and there are grammar mistakes, it is not counted as a mistake. And so, but knowledge has to be put in such a good way. Gurujī said, "Your point, your bhajan, and your speech should be like that, like a pearl goes through the silk thread, very gently goes." Otherwise, you have to do like this, like this. So, when the knowledge is always flowing, therefore, hṛde kamal kī āṅkh khul jāve, it opens the eye of the heart. When the Anāhata Chakra is opened, then you are complete or have fully achieved the human life, the human quality. Then we are 100% human. That one is called Puruṣottama. What? Puruṣottam. What does Puruṣottam mean? The Puruṣottam. Puruṣa means the human. And uttam means the best quality. Stone and diamond. Diamond is also stone, but has another quality. So puruṣam ke andar uttam. And kaunsā uttam? Which kind of uttam? The wisdom, the knowledge. That is called puruṣottam. So you can say Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa Puruṣottam, Bhagavān Rāma Puruṣottam. We call Māriyādā Puruṣottama Bhagavān Rāma. Mariyādā Puruṣottam Bhagavān Rām. In this all, God Rāma was acknowledged as a Maryādā Puruṣottama, that he followed his entire dharma. Dharma of a child, dharma of the parents, dharma of the husband, and dharma of the brother, dharma of the guru, dharma of everything. He followed that dharma. Last minute, he had one examination, and his guru, Bhagavān Rām's guru, Rāmakṛṣṇa, said, "Who is greater than Rāma and Kṛṣṇa?" They are the gods of all the three worlds, but they are surrendering to their guru-tattva, their Gurudeva. So it was a difficult time. Even God Rāma, he went to Guru Vasiṣṭha. His guru was Vasiṣṭha Muni. Gurudeva, what should I do now? Vasishtha Muni said, "Rām." He did not say, "Bhagavān Rām." He said, "Rām, your whole life you followed the Maryādā. If you miss now, your name from Mārīyādā Puruṣottama will be put out." He said, "But I do not want a name." He said, "No, you do not want what we want." You are a Vishnu incarnation, and therefore the supreme quality, the higher. Thank you for watching.
