Around the world - YIDL at the Budapest Vegetarian Festival 2011

A presentation on the Yoga in Everyday Life system at a Vegetarian Festival.

"Among these, the foremost is to maintain a vegetarian lifestyle."

"Our first aim is to gain good health. The major part of our illnesses... originates from our stomach."

A representative describes their organization's long-standing participation in the festival, highlighting yoga demonstrations and classes accessible to all. This year's focus was explaining the Falahārī diet, a concept from Swami Maheśvarānanda. The talk connects vegetarianism with physical yoga, prāṇāyāma, and relaxation, framing the practice as a holistic path to health and self-discovery.

Filming location: Budapest, Hungary

We are on the second day of the Vegetarian Festival, where we have represented Yoga in Everyday Life for many years, from the very first year we participated. Of course, the yoga system of Paramatmā Swami Maheśvarānanda—Swāmījī’s system, as we call it—is practiced in Yoga in Everyday Life. We can do yoga together and demonstrate its different aspects in daily life. On the physical level, you pay attention to your body’s sensations. In just a few minutes, you will feel your health. You will feel your old life, your past experiences, and your tastes. You will feel that these physical experiences are carried by your blood circulation, your fresh prāṇa, and your vitality. Thank God, vegetarianism is very natural today. In Yoga in Everyday Life, there is no prescription of what you must do, but rather recommendations. Among these, the foremost is to maintain a vegetarian lifestyle. When we participate in the Vegetarian Festival, we engage in many activities. We hold yoga classes that anyone, even those who have never done yoga, can join. This year, we received a specific task from the organizers. They found a few sentences about the Falahārī diet on our website, and we were asked to speak about this special master diet. Consequently, the Falahārī diet became the main part of our presentation, which was originally given by Swami Maheśvarānanda (Swami Jinn) in 2007 in Vépen. We presented it in segments, and in between, we demonstrated that it is not enough to merely be a vegetarian. One must also move, walk, exercise, practice breathing exercises (prāṇāyāma), and refresh the body with relaxation. Beyond all the physical benefits, the philosophy makes life easier and gives us more opportunity to find ourselves, to unwind, and ultimately to reach the Self of God—Paramātmā. We enjoy this Self of God the most. Thus, our first aim is to gain good health. The major part of our illnesses, physical troubles, and mental troubles originates from our stomach. The root of our troubles is our svar indriya—the tongue, the sense of taste. It is very hard to say no to the tongue. One can manage everything by engaging in the master yoga system of Swāmījī: Yoga in Daily Life.
