As More Subtle It Is As More Powerful It Is

Health is the first wealth.

Health is not everything, but everything is nothing without health. The body and mind constantly change; only the unchanging is real. Two energies exist: divine energy is creative, demonic energy is destructive. Demonic energy causes disease, like cancer. Negative energy attacks through mind, words, and actions. Blackmailing is an infectious mental bacterium. Purification comes through sattvic diet, positive society, and meditation. Meditation cleanses inner pollution. Prayer is mantra, directly invoking divine energy. Illness first strikes the subtle body through the senses, then the energy body, then the mind. Asanas activate energy; pranayama systematically purifies negativity. Begin practice immediately, without delay. Yoga balances mental fluctuations and directs them. Avoid negative associations and cultivate positive thoughts. Health depends on the company you keep.

Asato mā sadgamaya, tamaso mā jyotir gamaya, mṛtyor mā amṛtaṁ gamaya. Svasti bhavatu, sasakhinokakatakam yajamānaḥ. Chogandem Puṣṭi Vardhanam, Urvarukam Me Vandanam, Mokṣirmāṁ Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ. Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān, Devīśvara Mahādeva, Mādhava Kṛṣṇa Bhagavān. Satya Sanātan Dharma kī salutations to the Cosmic Light. Adoration to our Alakhpurījī Siddha Pīṭha Paramparā. Good evening, dear sisters and brothers, welcome. It is a beautiful time. First, this is a time dedicated to and prayed for the ancestors. Second, these nine days are dedicated to and worshipped as the Cosmic Mother. Navratri, the nine nights of the Divine Mother. Mātṛdevo bhava, the first god is declared as the mother; pitṛdevo bhava, the father; ācāryadevo bhava, the Gurudev. This place, Ostrava, is historical, and our dear Lajos has told you something. He always likes to make jokes from the very beginning. He was one of the bhaktas. In 1973, he invited me first to the beautiful city of Opava. From my first time in Opava, the first disciple is sitting here, and many others are already seniors. So next year in March, we will have a forty-year anniversary, and I am happy to be here. Āyurveda says, first happiness, or first wealth, is good health. Health is not everything, but everything is nothing without health. Brahma satyaṁ jaganmithyā. What is changing is not reality, and what is not changing is reality. Our body is changing, our thoughts, our mind, our emotions, our intellect—all are changing. These changes occur not only in humans but in the entire universe. The Vedas speak of Ānanda Brahmāṇḍa, Śāstra Sūrya, the endless universe with thousands, millions of sun systems. In that space, there are atoms. There are three things: space, consciousness, and atoms, which are also present in our body. They have two different qualities, and together they have one name: Śakti. Śakti, energy, power, is of two kinds: Devī Śakti and Āsurī Śakti. Devī Śakti is divine and healthy, while Āsurī Śakti is aggressive, negative, and unhealthy. That Devī Śakti, or Divine Śakti, which dwells in eternity, we call Ekam Nityam—that which is only one and everlasting, Nitya; Akhaṇḍa, unbreakable and unchangeable; Nirvikāra, without any negative qualities. Now, when the vikāras, which are āsurī śaktis—vikāra means negative cells in the body, or what we call death, the dead material in the body. Though it is called death, it is not truly so. To rid ourselves of the āsurī śakti from our body and mind is very difficult. It is the vikāra, which you may call cancer or many other diseases in the body. We do not want that, but we often cannot get rid of it. The energy that contains vikāra is negative energy. Negative energy is destructive, and positive energy is creative—constructive stability, indeed stability. What is the United Nations searching for? Sustainability. The word sustainability comes from the Trinity: Brahmā as the creator, Viṣṇu as the sustainer, and Śiva, the liberator. Now, there are two kinds of sustainers: Sākāra and Nirākāra. Sākāra is with form, and Nirākāra is without form. Therefore, the physical body is Ākāra, and the mental body is Nirākāra. In this Kali Yuga, the governing power is more negative. Vikāra—both physical and mental. So, negative energy can influence your positive thoughts and feelings. This energy has three ways of attacking you: through the mind, through words, and through actions. We can do positive or negative things. Therefore, what we call blackmailing is also vikāra. This blackmailing vikāra is like an infectious disease. You do not see those bacteria with your open eyes, but they travel quicker than we do, and they are very intelligent. They cause disease. Similarly, blackmailing is a kind of negative bacterium. It sits in your brain, and that changes the entire behavior of the person. That is what we call an attack through the mind. So your mind becomes completely imbalanced. Then you speak words you never spoke, and you perform actions you never did. These kinds of bacteria, the vikāras, are the cause of illnesses. Therefore, through a balanced Sattvic vegetarian diet, positive society, satsaṅg, and meditation—meditation is something that will purify all the negative energy from the body. After a whole day of work, you come home and take a shower. All external pollution is washed away, but how do we wash our inner pollution? That is through meditation. Meditation is a form of prayer; prayer is a form of mantra; and mantra is the form of that Devī Śakti, the Divine Śakti. Immediately, it has an effect. Jab jab man gabarāye, tum prārthanā karo; jab rāha najar na āye, tum prārthanā karo. Whenever you feel scared, pray. And when you don’t see the way out of troubles, pray. Gandhijī said, "Physically, I can fast. Physically, I cannot do without, because my mental tonic is my prayers." So you come home, sit down, and meditate. Then, beautiful waves of positive energy will come and balance your health system. All kinds of illnesses first attack our subtle body. These are the five kośas according to Vedānta. Annamaya Kośa is the body of nourishment. Prāṇamaya Kośa is the body of energy. Vijñānamaya Kośa is your intellect. And Ānandamaya Kośa is the body of your desire—that is called the causal body. Ānandamaya Kośa does not mean bliss; bliss is paramānanda. So, the first attack comes to your Vijñānamaya Kośa through the five Jñānendriyas: eyes, nose, ears, taste, and touch. Then it comes to your Prāṇamaya Kośa. The prāṇa is immediately infected, or immediately purified. Then it comes to Manomaya Kośa, the mind. The mind begins to think differently, with altered attitudes. Therefore Mahāprabhujī said, "O my mind, you lost everything with the kusaṅgīs. Dhyāna, dhyāna, bhakti sab khoyī—you lost your knowledge, your meditation, and your devotion." Proto zdraví. That we can maintain through practice, food, and society—that is, our company. But it is said, this body, this pañca tattva body, this body of the five elements that we have, is a bag of vikāras, of illnesses. It is not easy to purify the body, but we should continue cleaning, cleansing, washing. Āsanas, which are activating the energy, involve dynamic movements, body warming, balanced postures, and slight stretches. Then prāṇāyāma helps you further to purify the vikāras. But prāṇāyāma is systematic. Dekhā, dekhī, sajye yog, ghaṭekāyā, baḍe rog. If you just imitate through books and television, then it may happen that you harm the body and the disease will increase. The disease increasing may also affect your motor system. Today you should pay in cash; tomorrow you can borrow. Because if you come tomorrow, they will say, "Read here." So tomorrow will be ever tomorrow. That elderly person said, "And when and how should we begin?" I said, "Just now." After one minute, she said, "I can’t do it now." I said, "Why?" She replied, "Because at home I have cooked some meat for my dinner, so I have to eat that." I said, no, throw it in the forest somewhere; some animals will eat it. So you have to act now. If you do this—āsanas, prāṇāyāmas, meditations—then your viveka, your intellect and intelligence, will be balanced. Then Patañjali said the second sūtra: Yogaścittavṛttinirodhaḥ. Now, through the practice of yoga, you can balance your mental waves. Nirodha means to purify, to remain focused on one thing. Don’t let this blackmailing of negative thoughts pass through your brain. You should declare, "It is my life. It is my life." Only this life. As a human being, what does it mean for me to be human? Why did I receive a human body? Miltā hai saccā sukha, O my Lord, the real happiness I can get only at the shelter of Thy lotus feet. As you know the translation, so first we have to purify our mind, our Vijñānamaya Kośa. The body is full of vikāra. But to remove the vikāra, we have certain techniques. We can purify the physical body with water, with cloth, with earth, but how do we purify the inside? Then how do we purify our energy, which is not visible, which is subtle? That is more powerful and more effective. The more silent and subtle, the more powerful it is. One of the friends had someone who was like an enemy. That enemy came. He went to one of the friends who was sitting in the park, waiting for another friend. That man came closer to the friend of the other one, held his hands near his ear, and then went away. The other friend, seeing this, thought that the enemy had told something to his friend. He said, "Our friend is coming." "Why did he come to you?" "I don’t know." "And what did he tell you?" "Nothing." "Don’t lie. He came near to your ear, and when he saw me, he ran away. And he told you something, but you say he didn’t say anything? No, friend, you are not my friend." So, how can friendship break? The subtle energy, a certain attitude—now, this is very important. First, we said, purify that vital energy around us; avoid kusaṅga, bad company, and come to satsaṅg. So, develop positive vṛttis. You cannot stop the mind; the mind is like a river. We can’t block the river, but we can give it direction. Similarly, the mind is like a river; we can’t block it. So, Aṣṭāṅga Yoga: Citta Vṛtti Nirodha means purify your thoughts and direct them in one direction, controlling them. Then, your health condition will become better. So, that’s enough for today. In the morning, we will continue. Health is the first wealth. Health is not everything, but everything is nothing without health. But remember, not everyone is good for your company. So tomorrow we will continue. Tonight, think over what kind of company you should avoid, where to go, and where not to go. What you should speak and what you should not speak, so as not to pollute your citta-vṛttis. What should you say and what should you not say, so that you do not dishonor your citta-vṛtti? Therefore, as our holy Gurujī said—what did he say? Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān kī, Śrī Dev Purīṣa Mahādeva, Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandjī Bhagavān, Satya Sanātan Dharma.
