As More Subtle It Is As More Powerful It Is

Health is the foundational wealth, requiring perfect and unchangeable balance. The body and mind are ever-changing, composed of space, consciousness, and atoms containing both divine and negative energies. Negative energy, or vikāra, acts as a destructive force, entering through mind, speech, and action, disrupting balance and causing illness. This imbalance first attacks the intellectual sheath, then the energetic and mental sheaths. Purification is achieved through sattvic diet, positive company, and meditation, which washes away inner pollution. Physical practices like asana and pranayama must be done correctly to avoid harm. The mind's negative thoughts must be purified and directed, not blocked, to restore health. The body, though a vessel for illness, is essential for this purification.

"Health is not everything, but everything is nothing without health."

"Whenever you feel scared, pray. And when you don't see the way out of the troubles, pray."

Oṁ Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ. Sato mā sad gamaya, tamaso mā jyotir gamaya, mṛtyor mā amṛtaṁ gamaya. Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ. Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavānak, Diviśvara Mahādevak. Mādhav Kṛṣṇa Bhagavān kī, Satya Sanātana Dharma kī śilā. To the cosmic light, adoration to our Ālakpūrījī Siddha Pīṭha paramparā. Good evening, dear sisters and brothers. Welcome. It’s a beautiful time. First, this is the time which is dedicated and prayed to the ancestors. Secondly, these nine days are dedicated to and worshipped as the Cosmic Mother—Navarātri, the nine nights of the Divine Mother. Mātṛ Devo Bhava, the first god is declared as the mother. Pitṛ Devo Bhava, the father; Ācārya Devo Bhava, the Gurudev. This place, Ostrava, is historical. And our dear Lajos has told you something. He likes to always make jokes from the beginning onwards. He was one of the bhaktas who, in 1973, first invited me to the beautiful city of Opava. And from my first time in Opava, the first disciple is sitting here. Many others, they are already seniors. So next year in March, we should have a 40-year anniversary. Happy to be here. I am happy that I have been here. Āyurveda says the first happiness or first wealth is good health. Health is not everything, but everything is nothing without health. The definition of health is perfect balance, which remains untouched and unchangeable. Brahmasatya, jagat mithyā—that Brahman is the truth and the world is unreality. What is changing is not reality, and what is not changing is reality. Our body is changing. Our thoughts, our minds, our emotions, our intellect, everything is changing. These changes are not only in humans, but in the entire universe. The Vedas say Ananta Brahmāṇḍa, Śāstra Sūryas—endless universe and thousands, millions of the sun systems. In that space, there are atoms. There are three things: the space, consciousness, and atoms, which are in our body also. And they have two different qualities. Both together have one name: Śakti, energy. Energy, power. Daivī śakti and āsurī śakti. Daivī śakti is divine, healthy. Āsurī śakti is aggressive or negative, unhealthy. That daivī śakti, or the divine śakti that is dwelling in eternity, which we call ekam nityam—that is only one and everlasting, nitya, everlasting, akhaṇḍa, unbreakable and unchangeable, nirvikāra, without any negative qualities. Now, when the vikāras, which are āsurī-śaktis—vikāra means negative cells in the body, or what we call the death, the dead material in the body. Though it is what we call death, it is not. And to get rid of them, the āsurī śakti from our body and mind is very hard. It is the vikāra, which you may call a cancer or many other diseases in the body. We don’t want to have that, but we can’t get rid of it. Also, the energy which has vikāras, negative energy, is destructive, and positive energy is creative. Constructive stability, what the United Nations is searching for, is sustainability. The sustainability word comes from the trinity: Brahmā as the creator, Viṣṇu as the sustainer, and Śiva, the liberator. Now, there are two kinds of sustenance: sākāra and nirākāra. Sākāra is with form, and nirākāra is without form. Therefore, the physical body is sākāra and the mental body is nirākāra. In this Kali Yuga, there is more power. Governing power is negative. Vikāra. Vikāra, physical and mental. So, negative energy can influence your positive thoughts and positive feelings. And this energy has three ways to attack you: manasā, vācā, karmaṇā—through the mind, through the words, and through the actions. We can do positive, or we can do negative. Therefore, what we call blackmailing, the blackmailing, is also vikāra. And this blackmailing vikāra is like what we call an infection, a disease. You don’t see those bacteria with the open eye, but they travel quicker than we do. They are very intelligent, and they cause you the disease. Similarly, blackmailing is a kind of negative bacteria, and it sits in your brain and changes the entire behavior of a person. That’s what we call through the mind. So your mind is completely imbalanced. Then you speak words which you never spoke, and you do actions which you never did. This kind of bacteria, the vikāras, is the cause of illnesses. Therefore, through a balanced diet—Sāttvika, vegetarian diet—and positive, good society, satsaṅga. Meditation. Meditation is something which will purify all the negative energy from the body. After a whole day of working, you come home and you go under the shower. All pollution is washed away. But how do we go to wash our inner pollution? And that is through meditation. Meditation is a form of prayer. Prayer is a form of the mantra, and mantra is the form of that daivī śakti, divine śakti. It immediately has effect. Jab jab man ghabrāye, tum prathānā karo. Jab raha najar na āye, tum prathānā karo. Whenever you feel scared, pray. And when you don’t see the way out of the troubles, pray. Gandhijī said, "Physically, I can fast; mentally, I cannot, because my mental tonic is my prayers." So, you come home. You sit down and meditate, then beautiful waves of positive energy will come and balance your health system. So all kinds of illnesses first attack our subtle body. These are the five kośas according to the Vedānta: Annamaya kośa, the body of nourishment; Manomaya kośa, the body of mind; Prāṇamaya kośa, the energy; Vijñānamaya kośa is your intellect; and Ānandamaya kośa is the body of your desire. That’s called the causal body. Ānandamaya kośa means not the bliss. Bliss is paramānanda. So the first attack comes to your vijñānamaya kośa through the five jñānendriyas: eyes, nose, ears, taste, and touch. Then comes your Prāṇamaya kośa; the prāṇa is immediately infected or immediately purified. Then comes the Manomaya kośa, the mind. Mind begins to think with a different attitude. Therefore Mahāprabhujī said: Manasabhoyore kushangi okesang. O my mind, you lost everything with the kushangis. Dhyāna, dhyāna, bhakti sab khoī. You lost your knowledge because you lost your meditation, and as a result, you lost your devotion. Hare cāl rayo ku dhāṅg. Now you are walking in the wrong path. Therefore, health—physical, mental, social, and spiritual—can be maintained through practice, food, and society, or company. But he said the body, this pañca tattva body, this body of the five elements which we have, this body is a bag of vikāras, illnesses. It’s not easy to purify the body, but we should continue cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. Āsanas, which are activating the energy, dynamical movements, body warming, the balanced postures, and slight stretchings, then prāṇāyāma helps you more to purify the vikāras. But prāṇāyāma systematically. Dekhā, dekhī, sajye, yog, ghātekāyā, bade, rog. If you just imitate through books and television, then it may happen that you harm the body and the disease will increase. Maybe the disease increasing means also your motoric system. Today, you should pay in case. Tomorrow, you can borrow. Because if you come tomorrow, he will say, "Read here." So tomorrow will be ever tomorrow. So that elderly person said, "When and how should we begin?" I said, "Just now, after one minute." She said, "I can’t do now." I said, "Why?" "Because at home I have cooked some meat for my dinner, so I have to eat that." I said, "No, throw it in the forest somewhere; some animals will eat." So, you have to do now. If you do this—āsanas, prāṇāyāmas, meditations—then your viveka, your intellect, and your intelligence will be balanced. Then Patañjali said the second sūtra, "Yogaḥ citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ." Now, through the practicing of yoga, you can balance your mental waves. Nirodha means to purify. Nirodha means to stay on one thing. Don’t let this blackmailing, negative thought through your brain. You should say, "It’s my life." It is my life. Only the life. As being human, what means for me to be a human? Why I got human body? Oh, my Lord, the real happiness only I can get at the shelter of thy lotus feet. You know the translation. So, first we have to purify our mind, our Vijñānamaya kośa. The body is the vikāra, full of the vikāra. But to remove the vikāra, we have some techniques. Physical body we can purify with water, with cloth, with earth. But how are we going to purify inside? Then how do we purify our energy? Which is not visible, as subtle, that’s more powerful and more effective. And that mental energy—as silent, as subtle is more powerful. There were two good friends. And one of the friends had someone like an enemy. That one came, the enemy came. And he went to one of the friends who was sitting in the park, waiting for another friend. So that man came closer to the friend of the other one. And he held his hands like this near the ear and went away. And he said, "Another friend saw that he was telling my enemy something to my friend." And he said like this, "Now, friend is coming. Why did he come to you? I don’t know. And why did he tell you? Nothing. Don’t lie. He came like this near to your ear, and when he saw me, he ran away and told you, but he didn’t say anything. No, friend, you are not my friend." So how can the friendship break? The subtle energy, a certain attitude, so it’s very important. First, we said purify that vital energy around us, that is a kuśaṅga, and come to satsaṅga. So, develop positive vṛttis. You cannot stop the mind. The mind is like a river; you can’t block the river, but we can give direction to the river. Similarly, the mind is like that river; we can’t block it, so... Aṣṭāṅga yoga: citta vṛtti nirodha means purify your thoughts and direct in one side, control it. Then, health condition will become better. So today, that’s enough. Morning, we will continue. Health is the first wealth. Health is not everything, but everything is nothing without health. But health is also nothing without the body. So this body is very important. Though it is mortal, the body is the body. It may be the body of somebody, or everybody, and anybody, but nobody is not good. That’s it. So tomorrow we will continue. Tonight, think over which kind of company you should avoid. Where to go, where not to go. What you should speak, what you should not speak, to pollute your citta-vṛttis. Therefore, Holī Gurujī said what he said. pāṁ sata-saṅga-dījo śrī-dīpada-yālaya-rāja-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-saṅga-sa Your journey is not far, O Śrī Dīpa, who in the practice of cleverness, in the practice of cleverness, O Śrī Dīpa.
