Diwali Is The Festival Of Love And Light

A spiritual webcast discourse on Diwali and the principles of Vedic culture.

"To get world peace, to regenerate and recover nature and wildlife, if we follow the Vedic culture."

"Diwali is a festival which has been celebrated for many, many thousands of years. The festival of light, love, peace, harmony, forgiveness, and unity."

The speaker addresses the global celebration of Diwali and presents Vedic culture as a scientific and ancient guide for living. He contrasts an idealized past, where humans lived in harmony with nature, with the modern age, critiquing technological dependence, industrial agriculture, and meat consumption as harmful deviations. The talk advocates for a return to Vedic principles as the singular solution for global peace and environmental recovery.

I hope to be with you tomorrow to continue our webcast. It is the period of Diwali, or Deepavali, and many people are calling, happy and celebrating, not only in India but around the whole world. For example, in Australia, the council and government are also celebrating and supporting, organizing the altar of Lakṣmī and Gaṇeśa at the airport—it was very nicely done last year when I was there. Also in America and in Parliament, when the governor or president is taking the vow, the oath, then the mantras of the Upaniṣads and Vedas are chanted and blessed. Yes, indeed, the Indian culture, what we call the Vedic culture, the ancient culture, is scientific. It is very interesting that we should know that people who live on islands like Hawaii, Fiji, or in Bangkok, Singapore, and many other parts of the world—even the Brazilians, Mexicans, and Africans—they all had this Vedic culture and were supporting and protecting the environment. Even the building of the pyramids in Egypt was also according to the Vāstu Śāstra. Pyramids are constructed, and so all the houses, all the time, were according to the Vāstu Śāstra. The ṛṣis lived for thousands of years at that time, long, long ago, and we should be happy if we can survive till 100 years. When we are 100 years old, we call, "Oh, this is already a very old man or old woman. Well, she's suffering; she's ill. If she dies, okay, she had a good 100 years, but thanks to God that she got freedom from her body." So in this Kali Yuga, year by year, the age of humans is getting shorter because of the artificial way of living, and all these pesticides, and also breeding the animals. And those house pet animals, they also are very poor because of the human things, but they like it. The animals like it, but all the time, all were free and had a beautiful, free life. No doubt, in education, schools, and so on, in the material world, we are much more far developed, and we put technology in a practical way. But this has destroyed and harmed more our beautiful earth. Electricity—we became the slave of the power, the electricity. We can't imagine our hospitals without electricity. We can't imagine our life without electricity, even in our mobile. Now we have phones, we have electricity, we have batteries, so we have become the slaves of this technology. Pollution is growing, and therefore nature is also affected by that. The fruits and other crops, the food for animals and the food for humans, is not the quality it should be. Never, ever, never in the past were humans consuming so much meat as they are doing nowadays. The meat consumption began after the Second World War. Because during the time of the Second World War, some rich people had some meat, or sometimes the soldiers. So it went to the poor people's mind: those who can afford the meat and alcohol, they are high society, or they are the rich ones. So they also wanted to have this. So, unfortunately, the greedy people who want to have money try to breed the animals and supply the meat cheaper and cheaper and cheaper. But all cheaper things have their own price, which you have to pay with your health. Well, anyhow, the Vedic culture, Vedas and Upaniṣads and Purāṇas, in Śruti and Smṛti, what we learned is a science. And this is a science, and these are the instructions of the ṛṣis for humans on how to live. We know that we say, "Very good, yes, we are chanting," but we don't do it in a practical way. Many things. So people are supporting, and they are talking that we should protect the wildlife and animals, but at the same time, every year the wildlife is disappearing. So the answer is only one: Vedic culture. To get world peace, to regenerate and recover nature and wildlife, if we follow the Vedic culture. So Diwali is a festival which has been celebrated for many, many thousands of years. The festival of light, love, peace, harmony, forgiveness, and unity is a festival to tie the family more together. So, thank you, wish you all the best, and tomorrow we will again continue a webcast if you are in the time. Good night. Wish you good night. If it's morning, then wish you a very good morning and good day. Bless you in the name of Om Śrī Alak Purījī Siddha Pīṭha Paramparā Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān Śrī Śrī Dev Purīṣa Mahādev Dharma Samrāṭ Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandjī Bhagavān Satya Sanātana Dharma.
