Sangam - Merging Into Oneness

The human birth is a rare opportunity for self-realization through meditation and guidance from a true Guru. Without this knowledge, one departs life unfulfilled. This sacred pilgrimage site, where three rivers merge, holds the immortal nectar from the Satyuga. Its divine radiance permeates this place and its dust. To truly benefit, one must engage in spiritual practice with a pure heart, abandoning worldly attachments. Mere attendance is insufficient, though still a minor blessing. The goal is to attain that immortal essence.

"Who am I? Where have I come from? Why have I come here? What am I doing here? And where will I go? This knowledge can only be given when the seeker takes refuge in a true Guru."

"The most terrible event in human life is that a human being will leave this body without self-realization."

Filming location: Maha Kumbha Mela, India

Śrīdīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān kī Śrī Śrī Dev Puruṣa Mahādev kī Hindu Dharma Samrāṭ Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandjī Bhagavān kī Satyajñāna Dharma. God is the creator of the universe. This soul is wandering, sometimes in light, sometimes in darkness, experiencing joy and sorrow. We have found the human body by grace. And because we have found this human body, we should do self-realization through meditation, by becoming a Guru Mukhi, by chanting the Lord’s name. Ādi Guru Bhagavaṅ Śaṅkarācārya says: "Ko’haṁ? Katham idaṁ jātaṁ? Ko vā ayaṁ kartā? Iti vijñāyate." Who am I? Where have I come from? Why have I come here? What am I doing here? And where will I go? This knowledge can only be given to us when the seeker of self-realization takes refuge in a true Guru. Some people make a mistake. They think that because some Mahātma has given us a mantra and we have learned it, we can do as we wish. Meditation is not that easy. The more you meditate on gold, the purer it becomes. One who follows the spiritual path but does not meditate upon the self through meditation—forget that you will have self-knowledge. There are many good and bad incidents in human life. But the most terrible and worst event in human life is that a human being will leave this body without self-realization. Then you will not meet again and again. That is why, my dear friends, you are all here at this holy place of pilgrimage, the King of Prayāg. Priyagraj Tīrtha is the king of all Tīrthas, where Gaṅgā, Yamunā and Sarasvatī are united. Just as in our Yoga, out of 72,000 nāḍī, three nāḍī are the main ones—Iḍā, Piṅgalā, Suṣumnā—and where they are united is called Trikuṭī, Bṛkuṭī, Ājñā Cakra, etc. It is fortunate that you are on this sacred and pious land, on the banks of Gaṅgā Māyā and Yamunā Māyā, and that too on the banks of the Kumbh Melā during Makar Saṅkrānti, where the Sun, Nārāyaṇa, and Uttarāyaṇa go, and where the bath of Saṅgam takes place. This Kumbh Melā began during the Satyuga. At that time, Amṛt was still here. Some people may think this is a matter of the Satyuga, that the nectar would have flowed into the ocean and gone back. How many lakhs and crores of years have passed? No, this is wrong thinking. If it is nectar, then it is immortal. No one can destroy it. That is why in Satyuga, when Amṛt fell here, it is still there; its ābhā maṇḍal (sphere of radiance) is still there. And the devotee who comes with a pure heart (pavitra Bhav), who comes into the lap of Gaṅgā Māiyā, will definitely attain the Amṛta Tattva (nectar principle). Therefore, by coming here, one should give up work, anger, greed, ego, etc. Bhagavān kā bhajan karnā chāhiye, sādhanā karnā chāhiye, śayam niyam se rahanā chāhiye, aur yah Gaṅgā Māiyā kī pavitra jala ke andar dubkī lagānī chāhiye. Then our coming here will be fruitful. Otherwise, if one just comes to see the fair, it's okay. In English they say, "Better than nothing." At least something is good. But if we want to attain that for which we have come, then we should do some spiritual practice for it. No matter who we are, there are thousands and lakhs of devotees who have come here. Why have they come? To do spiritual practice. They too have come to attain the knowledge of Amṛt. And that too through his Mukhārabind, through his Śruti, through his Smṛti—whatever knowledge he has attained through his Mukhārabind and discourses, he gives to the devotees who have come. If one understands, then one will be blessed. You are all welcome. Every day in this pandal of Vishwa Gurudev Ashram, there will be discourses and stories. You are welcome. With this, I give a pause to my speech. Please sit. Afterwards there will be bhajan kīrtan; you may sit if you wish, or you may leave. Śrīdīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān. Yes, all the spiritual seekers, the bhaktas of Gurudev, here and there, everywhere in the world, first of all, I welcome you after a long time. The webcast is there. This blessing is coming from the holy Bhārat, from the bank of the holy rivers Gaṅgā and Yamunā, the Saṅgam, the meeting, merging into one place—the three rivers: Gaṅgā, Yamunā, and Sarasvatī. At least through the webcast, you are also with us here, and this blessing is coming to you. Many bhaktas came from different parts of the world here and are enjoying here at the bank of the river in the holy dust, which is everywhere. It is so fine in the hair, in the nostrils, everywhere, in and out, no doubt. The holy dust is blessing us constantly with each and every breath. You know the meaning of the Kumbha Melā. This has become the tradition since the Satyuga, when the devas and asuras were in search of the nectar, and they were churning the ocean, from which the fourteen ratnas came. Even the cow came through that churning of the ocean, and that’s why the cow is holy. The elephant came, the horse came, and many other things. Among that, finally, there was God Viṣṇu in the form of Bhagavān Dhanvantari, whom we adore as the God of the nectar; kalaśa is the pot. So Bhagavān Dhanvantarī appears with one beautiful pot, full of the nectar. Now, who doesn’t want to drink that nectar? It was that which, whoever will drink, will become immortal. And who doesn’t want to become immortal? If you could drink a very little drop of that nectar, even the smallest, like a drop of the fog—fog is in drops of water, that’s all—even smaller than that, immediately you become immortal, you become young, and forever you are happy, beautiful. What do you think? Oh my God! But only if you will practice now, exactly. Āsana, Niyama, Ācāra, Vicāra, Āhāra, and Vihāra. You have forgotten; you don’t know why you came here. Yes, many go to drink coffee, many go to drink chocolate, many are wandering here and there, restless, but we call they are all like on the black list. You have forgotten, my dear. If you would have come and stayed and spent the time for what you came, search. Day and night, search. Struggle for that. 98% you have forgotten. Well, better than nothing, you are here. The holy dust goes through your whole body. Your lungs and everything will be full of that. After, you have to do the nāḍī, so then prāṇāyāma when you come at home, very good. But you have forgotten that. Therefore, it will have little effect. The devas wanted to drink the nectar, and the asuras also wanted to drink. Also, the alcohol came out of that, soma rasa. If the devils become immortal, there will be disaster in the entire universe. There will be no positive energy remaining, because from the time there is the battle between Āsurī Śakti and Devī Śakti. God tries to give that nectar out of the one pot, Kalaśa. But how? That’s a miracle. God divided the pot. One side was alcohol, the other side was the nectar. You know, in the beginning, they had a thermos with two bottles inside. One side you press for the milk tea, the other side you press for the black tea. Or one side kept the herbal tea and one side kept the black tea. So, when the Rākṣasas came, God put a pot like this. They got in the cup, but that was alcohol. And when the Devas came, God gave in this way; there came a nectar. Devas were happy and dancing, and others were getting dizzy. Alcohol? You know much better than me, yes? How many times were we dizzy? Anyhow, they realized there was a run. So some drops of the nectar were falling on different places. And one of those is our Prayag, Tīrtha Rāj Prayāg. Prayag also means Milan, coming together. So the city, the mystic city in the Republic of the Czech, the capital city called Prague—yes, that name comes from here. And that’s why that city is called a mystic city, yes. So, merging into the oneness. Anyhow, it was in Satyuga, and many people think now maybe it was washed away into the ocean. What are we searching here? There is nothing. It was in Satyuga. No, it is not like that. If it was nectar, then it means immortality. Immortality means forever. So it doesn’t matter—yugas, manvantaras, kalpas, ages and ages, many Brahmā will come and many Viṣṇu will come, and many times Śiva will again manifest it. But that immortality, that reality, will never change. And therefore, you are all here, and be sure that the vibration, the aura, the radiance, that light, it is here in this space and on this dust. And now that is flowing through you, that nectar, radiance. You don’t realize, but there is light. Like an X-ray machine, you don’t realize, but you are X-raying everything. Similarly, this divine energy, divine radiance, divine light, divine consciousness of immortality is going through and through you. But the question is this: how pure is your heart, how pure is your body, how pure are your thoughts, how pure is your devotion or faith? How much are you longing for that, or do you just come to see the melā and have fun? Yes, even if you came for the fun, something you will realize. But if you have purity, be receptive, be receptive, and feel that within you something is happening, definitely you will get that immortality. And tomorrow morning, according to Indian time, we will have dipped into the holy saṅgam—Gaṅgā, Yamunā, and from beneath comes the Sarasvatī. The first bathing here in Allahabad, or in Prayāgrāj, Tīrtha Prayāgrāj, is our Akhāḍā, Mahānirvāṇī Akhāḍā. After Mahānirvāṇī Akhāḍā comes Jūnā Akhāḍā, Nirāñjanī Akhāḍā, and then all Akhāḍās will follow till the evening, and we will have bathing. So we are the first ones to have the opportunity. The constellation of Makar Saṅkrānti, according to the moon calendar, Jyotiṣa, Indian Jyotiṣa, is already now, already now it has begun. But at midnight, the English date is changing, so that is how it comes on the 14th. But in reality, today that constellation is already there. So we are the lucky ones. I welcome you. I wish you a very nice, happy stay here in our camp, Vishwa Gurudev Ashram. We try to make all the facilities, possibilities, what we could have here, arrangements. So, wish you all the best and a divine path. Also, to our dear brothers and sisters, the Bhaktas of Bhagavān Śrī Dīpnā and Mahāprabhujī, the spiritual seekers around the world, we wish you all the best. And tomorrow we will give you more report this time about the Saṅgam Snān. Snān means bathing. Our different bhaktas from every country will speak and tell, in their language, their experiences, their feelings. So all the best, and enjoy. At the same time, we will have some glimpses, which we will make into videos and try to send you tomorrow on the web. Śrī Dīpṇā and Bhagavān. Here, on the bank of holy rivers: Gaṅgā, Yamunā, Sarasvatī. Millions and millions of saints, every year, their sādhanā, their fasting—it is a holy place. Therefore, it is said: He wants to attain the ultimate power. He wants to make his devotee successful, so he goes to the shelter of those great men and asks for their blessings. And he does not want anything else. What does a devotee want? What does a devotee ask for? A devotee does not ask for anything. Neither money, nor wealth, nor men, nor women, nor children, nor anything. So what does he want? He does not even want salvation. He will not be successful. What should we ask from the saints and Gurudev? No wealth, no children, no happiness of heaven, no world of Indraloka, no kingdom of earth, and I don’t even want salvation. Salvation is the slave of Gurudev’s feet. We will automatically attain that salvation. Mujhe to vahā gurudev ke caraṇ kamala kī pavitra rāj chāhiye. Bolśaṇatandā. Kal phir satsaṅg hogā. Itna hi. Kekhi aaj viram deta hu mere bani ko. Aap sajan bhajan gaaye, aur satsaṅg kaale. Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinaḥ, Sarve Santu Nirmāyāḥ, Sarve Bhadrāṇi Paśyantu, Mā Kaścid Duhkha Bhāga Bhavet. Om Śāntiḥ.
