Weekend seminar in Umag, Croatia (3/4)

Human life is for self-realization, not mere existence like animals. Humans possess intellect and are created as protectors of all life, not destructors. The universe originates from infinite space and consciousness, held by divine energy. This energy manifests as creation through vibration, forming the elements. Our true self is the immortal universal consciousness within a mortal individual body. The purpose is to reunite individual consciousness with the universal. Yoga is the science for this union, guiding the awakening of inner energy through the chakras. This awakening brings love, wisdom, and bliss, not danger. Life should be enjoyed positively under guidance to reach the ultimate goal.

"Humans are created as protectors, not destructors. Humans are the protectors of the entire planet."

"Awakening of Kuṇḍalinī means awakening of love, universal love, awakening of wisdom, contentment, and bliss."

Filming location: Umag, Croatia

Jana, sabhā, duhā, jampra, bolīye, śrīdīp, nareyam, bhagvāne, krīje. Thank you. To those asking questions, please do not ask such long ones. Simply tell Swāmījī, "I have a problem with my headache." That is enough. "A problem with the shoulder." They ask a whole long list. Please, ask briefly: "I have a problem with my head," or something similar. We will read them next month when I return from India in December. Thank you, organizers. Welcome, Swāmījī. I greet the former ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Moscow, Russia, and his family, who were also formerly in India. I also greet the former ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to India, Mr. Dinu Debeljuha, and our dear guests, Mr. Varv and his wife. Thank you. We congratulate our new guru brothers and sisters who received their mantra today. A few words about Swāmījī's activities in recent months while he was in America? As Swāmījī was not with us, we missed the chance to celebrate together his appointment as an Ambassador of Peace, which he received in America. For 40 years, Swāmījī has promoted peace in the world. We know he is an ambassador of peace, but now he has formal recognition. He received recognition from the Mayor of Los Angeles. During his stay, Swāmījī was invited to ring the Bell of Peace. Can we have a little light to see? We cannot see the bell. Where is it? Do you know the story of this bell? Who does not know, hands up. May I take two minutes? It's not that I am ringing the bell. This bell was produced after Hiroshima in Japan. Coins were collected from around the world, from every nation. All those coins were melted, and from them, seven large bells were made and donated to the United Nations. This is the sixth bell, located in a beautiful park in Los Angeles near the National Library. It is under the protection of the United Nations and is rung once a year on World Peace Day, declared by the UN. I had to change my program in New York and fly to Los Angeles a day earlier. But the day before, a train accident happened in Los Angeles; many people died, as you may know from the news. That day, Los Angeles was in mourning, and the bell was not rung. Later, in memory and honor of the souls who lost their lives, and for Peace Day—the UN celebrates a whole week—the bell was rung. The representative of the United Nations, the representative of the California government, and different religious leaders were present. This is the story of the Peace Bell. You can find its complete history on the internet. This bell has great meaning; it stands and resonates to create love, harmony, and peace in the world. Thank you. Sorry, Mr. Vivek Purī, but that was not all. Swāmījī did many other things in California. He gave a lecture at an institution called Homeboy Industries, an organization that rehabilitates former Los Angeles gang members. I hope Swāmījī will tell us about that lecture and how he felt. Well, that is another side of the peace bell. Some organizers from Los Angeles told me it is one of the cities known as a "gang city." I did not know what "gang" meant until that day. I said, "Oh, really? It's beautiful." She was driving and said, "What, so easy?" I said it was beautiful that she told me. Then she explained. Unfortunately, these are children whose parents could not educate them. When the children went into negative company, the parents threw them out. So they landed in other activities. A priest, I think named Father Boyle, organized a large organization called Homeboy Industries to give them a different perspective and motivation in life—rehabilitation. He was even sought by some gang members personally, but, thank God, he recovered. When they heard I was there, they invited me to lecture to those young people. I still did not understand what "Homeboy Industry" meant. I understand industry as creating, manufacturing something. They drove me to a particular area to a house. I could see a certain number of people sitting there. I went inside, and many were sitting like this. I thought, "Mahāprabhujī, I have to go to Croatia." They took me into a room. I had bodyguards, but they were 80 times weaker than these homeboys. My bodyguards stayed behind me. They said, "Master, it's time for you to go first." There were about 30 boys and girls. I was introduced, and they listened very concentratedly. At first, they were thinking, "What is this guy doing here? What will he give us?" I spoke for 35 minutes. After my speech, some had tears in their eyes, and without my saying, they were folding their hands and sitting like this. I spoke about life, their life, the sense of life, and human life. You could feel these are young kids. The young generation needs guidance. They are not bad, not criminal, but a bad situation makes them so. When I left, they said, "Thank you, thank you, sir." A big article appeared. You see this one boy coming and thanking me very much. The articles are on the internet; you can read them. It appeared in the Los Angeles Times on the 27th of September. Thank you. Om Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ. We are happy, Swāmījī, that we belong to your system and that you are introducing it around the world, not just spiritually but in a peace-making sense. We are happy you returned to Europe safely. We did not have time to congratulate you for all you achieved in LA, so this is... Thank you. Out of many experiences, I learned one thing. We can learn new things at any time in life. At the UN Assembly and South California government event, we stood for a group photo. Some of our European bhaktas from Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, were with me. We wanted to take a photo, and someone said, "Cheese." Norma, the president of the UN Assembly in California, said, "No cheese, peace." I learned something new. She said, "We think peace, we act for peace, we work for peace, and we will speak for peace." In the world, peace is very much needed. Thank you, that's all. Before I begin my little lecture on the Viśuddhi Chakra, we will see a three-minute video about Kuṇḍalinī and Chakras. Prepare it, please. I am very happy to greet the excellencies here. Yesterday was the Indian Excellency; today we have an international team of Excellencies, and also our Mr. and Mrs. Berwa Kaneladji, the additional general director of Rajasthan, and many bhaktas and friends here for the first time. Life, you know... animals are also living. Animals also fight for their life. Animals eat, drink, sleep, and procreate. Animals are also very active. O man, if you are acting in this world just for living, then there is very little difference between animals and humans. One philosopher said, "We eat for living. We are not living for eating." That should be human consciousness. I have a question here. I don't know if asked by a boy or girl. The question is: "My friend argues with me about killing animals. He says it's the same as killing plants. I have no argument back." We should not put any arguments. Just say, first become vegetarian and develop love towards creatures. Then we speak about plants. In the Vedas, in Vedic Dharma and Hinduism, it is declared that every plant has life. Even the stone has life. Where is there no life? Respect life. Therefore, it is strictly prohibited to destroy vegetation. What does vegetarian mean? Vegetarian understands fruits and vegetables. Those fruits you take, which are given by nature, always fall down: nuts, grains, milk. And, if you don't destroy whole bee families, take honey without harming them, as said in the Testament. Ill people went to Lord Jesus for help, and Jesus said, "You are ill because you don't eat what you should eat, and you eat what you should not eat. You should eat grains from the fields, nuts, and then higher consciousness." This is how the progress, the development of consciousness, goes. Humans have highly developed consciousness. Humans have an ability animals do not have: intellect. But human intellect needs education. You can educate humans as you like; in which society one is, one will behave accordingly. The best education is from mother and father. Why does criminality begin in the world? Because parents could not give them that love. They did not have that education. The New York Times interviewed me. They asked, "Nowadays the young generation uses one word. What do you say about that? What?" If you ask them, "Please be nice or good to others," the answer is: "Why should I be good?" This movement, this blackmailing, is going around the world in all young people. When you say thank you, they just look, or say, "Mm-hmm." We need education that develops human consciousness in a positive way of life and protection. For protection, I think the Creator has created, out of 8.4 million different creatures, one: the human. Humans are created as protectors, not destructors. Humans are the protectors of the entire planet. Then humans can understand what the soul means. Who am I? The beginning is from Anantabha, from the endless universe. As I always say, the universe is endless. We don't know where is the beginning or the end. It is without border. But we are limited. How should we know? In the very beginning, the universe was known as śūnya ākāśa. Śūnya means there is nothing, not even vibrations. Empty, void space. That's called the mother body, the universal mother. Within that endless universe, in śūnya ākāśa, there is another thing called cetanā, consciousness. Now, consciousness is within the space, not space within consciousness. Cosmic Consciousness, Universal Consciousness, not a universe consciousness. Mother and embryo, not embryo and mother. But in that embryo, the father or mother is hidden. Between consciousness and space, there is another power, energy, which keeps them balanced perfectly, holding them together. That's called śakti, energy. That śakti means yoga. God Kṛṣṇa speaks in the Bhagavad Gītā: "Arjuna, from time to time I manifest myself through my yoga śakti." Krishna means consciousness. The manifestation of that consciousness in this universe takes place through that Śakti. So yoga means balancing, harmony, and uniting. Literally, we understand yoga as union. In the entire endless universe, vibration began—like a mosquito's buzz—and you feel it in the whole body without time, one without a second. That vibration, that resonance—out of that, the four elements begin to develop: fire, air, water, and earth. That is our origin when we begin. But many times this creation in the five elements completely merges into oneness and comes back again. Now we are all here, a universal being in an individual body. We divided ourselves into two parts: the immortal being and the mortal being. The jīvātmā, the jīva, the body is mortal. Ātmā is immortal. The jīva is individual, and ātmā is universal. That's why it is said, "Ātmā jñāna, know thyself." Ādiguru Śaṅkarācārya said, "Who am I? From where do I come? What is the purpose of my coming here? And where will I go?" Who am I? That is the purpose of human life: to free this consciousness again into universal consciousness. Therefore, on this planet, 8.4 million different creatures are created. With this resonance, good and bad qualities developed. That's called daivī śakti and āsurī śakti. Āsurī śakti is negative, and daivī is positive. The same began to develop on our planet, too. Negative āsurī śakti functions throughout the universe, and daivī does as well. So there is protection. Creatures are divided into three categories: jalacara, creatures in water; sthalacara, on the ground; and nabhaścara, in the sky. In the Vedas, there is a mantra to protect all creatures and thyself in water, on ground, and in space: Om Dyoḥ Śāntiḥ, Antarikṣam Śāntiḥ, Pṛthivī Śāntiḥ. You know this mantra called for protecting creatures in water, on earth, and in space. Modern science and technology also developed protection for water creatures—enemies in the water called the Navy; on the ground, ground force; and in the air, air force. Linked directly to that supreme power. Coming from there, out of 8.4 million different creatures, one is the human. There is no racism, no race, no differences. Only one race, called human. That's why we call the highest religion, the one to which we all belong, humanity. Humans should learn to protect themselves. So humans are born here as protectors. Recently, modern science also declared there is no race; there's only one, human, or animals, different birds, or other animals. It is said the first human race began from Tibet, the Himalayas, and again we are there. Shiva manifested himself in the Himalayas at Kailāśa. Slowly, science is coming back to ancient wisdom, yogic science. Within this body, a great saint, Swāmī Śivānandajī of Ṛṣikeś, said: "Within you is the ocean of bliss. Within you is the fountain of joy. Within you is the immortal Ātmā. Kill this little 'I' and lead a divine life." Human life is given to serve, to help, and to achieve the highest goal of self-realization. That is what is in our chakra science. It helps us overcome weaknesses, overcome mistakes, and create more energy in the body. It helps our consciousness expand more, and the jīva changes into consciousness, Śiva. Shiva means consciousness. Shiva means liberation. Shiva means bliss. Shiva means truth. Shiva means beauty. Satyam Śivam Sundaram, the mantra says. Therefore, yoga is the science of body, mind, and consciousness. It is the science for humans on how to live life and fulfill the completeness of your life. After awakening from Mūlādhāra, the Śakti, Kuṇḍalinī, finally comes to the main gate: the Viśuddhi Chakra. If you can come through Viśuddhi Chakra, then you need not be afraid; you have already taken off. But it can happen that Viśuddhi Chakra can suppress you down again. If you practice correct techniques, there are no dangers. Awakening of Kuṇḍalinī is never dangerous. Many people say, "Oh, it's very unpleasant." When you feel something moving in the spine, it is high time to go to a neurologist. If you feel something hot and cold, you have to go to a cardiologist. If you feel something crawling up your spinal column, then you have to go take a shower. Awakening of Kuṇḍalinī means awakening of love, universal love, awakening of wisdom, contentment, and bliss. These are the four petals of Mūlādhāra Chakra, representing love, light, contentment, and wisdom. When this awakens, you feel comfortable, safe, and happy. So, Yoga in Daily Life is that science—ancient wisdom for modern life. Modern life leads you very safely, and be sure you will be in enlightenment. Never hurry to come to enlightenment. This life is given to enjoy. Enjoy your life. Be happy. Eat, sleep, walk, talk according to yogic principles. And ask God: "Go in the Mary Din rat Gavund Damo. Oh Lord, oh Krishna, oh Gospode, oh Krishna, it's my request, my prayer, that I never forget your name in my life, your mantra. All night and day, I repeat your name, my Lord. You are in each and every atom of my body. At the end of my physical life, I don't want to see anything, only your divine form, my Lord, and you are playing a beautiful flute. Man ko lubhāte—you attract my mind. That universal sound, gate yehi nām—while singing thy name, O Lord. Tana nātha tyāgu—I give up my body." When you have Self-realization completely, then you don't want to live anymore. You experience some time, back and go, back and go. But don't forget the technique and the path. That will lead you there. Gurudev's guidance—without it, you cannot come through. If you want to cross the ocean and try to swim with your own arms, you cannot cross. We need a boat. Therefore, Gurū Nānak Sāhib said the name of Gurudeva is a boat. Whoever sits in this with confidence and faith, be sure Gurudeva will bring you to the other shore. Therefore, it is said to their divine consciousness: "Lord, come to me," finally, to that minute. "Where I will need you, door of my heart open wide I keep for thee. Will thou come? Just once, come to me. Night and day I look for thee. Will thou come? You are of my heart, open wide I keep for thee." Great yogī Paramahaṁsa Yogānanda. What is the mission of human life? Not money, not fighting, not war, no divisions, no conflicts. Only one mission: Ātma Jñāna, self-realization. With this, today, this evening, I wish you all the best. I think Kanelālji will say something before that. We will have a three-minute video about Kuṇḍalinī. Tomorrow morning we continue from 9 o'clock. The program will go till 10, 10:30, then hurry home. Before that, there is sad news. Unfortunately, that's life, but we are still in the mortal body and we feel it. One of my disciples from Germany, named Kurt, living in Munich, was walking with friends this afternoon, eating, and then walking. He said he didn't feel good, lay down, and passed away. About 40 years young. I request everyone to pray for his divine soul. For one minute, please close your eyes, that his soul may merge into the cosmic light of God. Do you have the video? Then tell yes or no. First, lights off, please. Thank you for your video. Thank you. Now, start your video. No sound? What is the sound problem? English is good. Do it in English, please. "Śitaron me ālok, jiskā he ta, śitaron me ālok, chanda vasura me ābhā, jiskā he chanda vasura me ābhā..." What is the problem? Hey, boys, say something. Answer. Thank you. Hurry home. Lights on, please. Please, you come. The floor is yours. Hari Om. My salutations to Holy Gurujī, my salutations to Swāmī Paramahaṁsa Maheśvarānandajī. My regards and hearty welcome to His Excellency from Bosnia and Croatia who has been to India. My regards to all disciples and members of this august gathering. My love and regards to all my friends who met me earlier, five years ago, and all familiar faces who come to India and meet me in Jardin and Shyām Nagar Ashram. Since this morning, I am wondering how blessed I am. When I came here yesterday and since attending this seminar, I am having the bliss of eternal life and all joy and happiness. After listening to Swamiji's lecture and meeting all of you, I feel very happy and blessed. We just listened to Swamijī about improving our quality of life, attaining joy of life, and attaining self-realization. Like all of you, I am also a great and ardent disciple of Swamijī and follower of Yoga in Daily Life. I am also seeking Swamiji's blessings and help to improve the quality of life and attain the mission of life. We all experience difficult times, difficulties in day-to-day life. There may be many reasons. In India, we face problems due to overpopulation. We find long queues everywhere. Life is very difficult. But this may not be the cause of miseries. We also face problems due to population and competitiveness. Our youth, our new generation, may face problems due to a lot of competitiveness. They may think they could not realize or get what they aspire for. Therefore, there may be conflict due to these feelings. In other parts of the world, you may have different problems. Life may be difficult elsewhere; regions may be different. In India, we think people in Europe and other developed countries are much happier and healthier. But you may think people of India are blessed, having the blessings, guidance, and care of saints like Swāmījī. So, everywhere we feel a sense of deprivation. This sense of relative deprivation causes a sense of loss. We think what others have, we don't have. We may think our European culture is better. On the other hand, you may think ancient culture like India is better, more joy-giving and understanding of life. Great saints like Mahatma Gandhi said he found no difference between cultures of the world. He said the lifestyle and culture you adopt is suitable to your climatic and geographical conditions. The culture and traditions we have in India may be suitable to our living, our climate, our geography. Mahatma Gandhi said, "I am not one to discuss difference, but I am there to find assimilation of cultures. When there is harmony between two cultures, two nations, and people of those countries, that is real culture." He always propounded that harmonious life can be the real sense of joy. He said joy and happiness cannot be purchased with tons of money. We know surveys never maintain that a millionaire is always the happiest person. A person cannot be happy just by getting what they aspire for, or by becoming famous. A person can be happy when attaining purity in life. Mahatma Gandhi said purity can be achieved only through truth, love, and compassion. We take interest only in material things. We try to find beauty only in things we create. Mahatma Gandhi said by rehearsal or cultivated voice, we can create a good song. By practice, one can become a good artist or sculptor. We find beauty in such materialistic things, and we have more desires for them. Even we are bartering. God bless you.
