Prana Is King Of Our Life

Human life is precious and sustained by prāṇa.

All beings share five elements and ten prāṇas. Language differences hide the one God. The human form emerges after millions of births. This body allows liberation. Prāṇa is the essential life energy. In the Upaniṣadic story, hearing departed. Sight departed. Speech departed. Touch departed. Life continued without them. When prāṇa moved to leave, all senses cried for its return. Prāṇa is the cosmic energy pervading everything. Human life enables spiritual realization. Misuse leads to cycles of suffering. Positive energy must be cultivated. The Guru principle guides to Brahmaloka. Everything is within.

"There are 8.4 million different creatures, created by one creator."

"Without prāṇa, there is no life."

First of all, I greet you, dear ones, who are with us through the webcast. And then, all of you, dear ones, here in the hall, in our beautiful āśram. This morning, I spoke something about Ṛṣikul. In Ṛṣikul or Gurukul, children were very peaceful automatically, and it was the parent’s duty to explain that we are in Ṛṣikul. Those who are children and not yet ready for the Ṛṣi Kul – they are in the family, so this is the time for them now to play in the garden. Thank you for your understanding. Children are the future of tomorrow. Ṛṣi Kul ṛṣis were hermits. They were living in the forest. We can compare it to a farmhouse, to what you call the khāṭā. Even now, if you go to European villages, it is very well known which farmhouse belongs to which family. In German, they say Bauernhof. So in ancient times there was a Ṛṣikul, and the school where they would teach was called Gurukul. If the Gurukul did not live in a very disciplined way… (He speaks English to German.) So, our Strilky Ashram, which is in the beautiful countryside of the Czech Republic. This part of Europe is truly beautiful; it is a blessing of God. Beautiful nature, soil, environment – everything. Every season, the climate is friendly. Here we say four months are summer and eight months are cold. That is best. In many parts of the world, June, July, and August are so humid and so hot: you put on fresh clothes and go to your car to bring your fruit basket; you come back into the room and you are completely wet, sweating. So I can understand. And I am happy for this part of our world, that tourists like to come here in summer. Without air conditioning, they can survive. It is neither too humid nor too dry. And if you have a problem somewhere in this part of the world, I would suggest the best place, every good season, is Strilky Ashram. I would suggest that from different parts of the world you come with a group to have a retreat here. This is Ṛṣikul. It is very good. After that, we spoke about Brahmavidyā and about Prāṇa. And we spoke about human life. How long does it take for this soul to come to a human body? Many times I have told this, and again I will say: there are 8.4 million different creatures, created by one creator. That means there is only one God; there are not two Gods. There is one family that has about eight sons and nine daughters, and each of those eight sons also has four sons. “Mahāprabhujī kī Karatā, Mahāprabhujī kī Karatā…” There is one country called the Czech Republic, and how many people are there? Fourteen million? About 14 million citizens of the Czech Republic. Now, you go to other countries – is there a Czech person here? Yes, that I am. So 14 million people are known as Czech citizens. In the same way, there are many spiritual gods, but they are all connected to one God, that is Brahman. So there is no “demigod.” This is a very wrong word used in the English language. That is why there is only one God. The day before yesterday, I spoke about this. Where is Gandhijī’s favorite prayer? What was it? “Raghupati Rāghava, Rājā Rām, Patita Pāvana Sītā Rām.” I can’t hear you. “Raghupati Rāghava, Rājā Rām, Patita Pāvana Sītā Rām.” It is said: O Lord of the dynasty of Raghu, O King of Raghu, Raghupati Rāghava Rājā Rām, Patita Pāvana Sītā Rām, You are the saviour and liberator of the meek ones. “Sab ko sanmati de, Bhagavān,” please give good thoughts, good buddhi, good intellect to everyone. “Sītā Rām, Jaya Jaya Sītā Rām,” O Sītā and Lord Rāma. “Īśvara or Allāh,” both are Your names. “Sanmati de Bhagavān,” give good buddhi to all. Good thoughts, positive thoughts. The difference is only one: language. In many languages, you have a good word for that, and in our language it is not so good. I know I should not speak some words in the webcast, but I must tell this because it came to my mind. I want to tell you how a good word can be a bad word for someone else. No bad intention. In 1980, I came to Australia. People were very nice, very friendly, with good hospitality, and one bhakta had already received a few mantras. One morning, that devotee came to me and said, “Gurudev, do you want popo?” I said, “What?” And that means… I said, “No, no, thank you.” He insisted, “But that is very good.” And I thought, for God’s sake, should I say yes or no? Papita, the beautiful fruit, papaya – they say popo. Now you see: for them it is a good word, but for Europeans it is not such a good word. So where is the problem? The problem is in language. You say “Holy Father.” So where is the difference between Brahmā, who is the father, the creator – stvořitelem? Brahmā is the father, and the first Manu’s father was Brahmā. So Īśvara, Allāh, our Father – it is only a difference of language. Fighting is against the language. You don’t want to say this, and we don’t want to say this. My God and my God and their God and our God. “Jai Bukh, Mui Bukh, Tvui Bukh, Nash Bukh. Īśvara Allāh, praṇām, sab ko sanmati deva bhagavān.” That is it. So there is also a problem between the Indian language and your language. In India, the Englishmen introduced English, so even small children learn English words to say “thank you” – they do not say namaste. Now everyone wants to speak English. They say “thank you,” and they also learn “dog,” “cat” – dog. Dog. So one German lady came to India and said in her language, “Danke, Danke… Danke.” She said, “Your father is a donkey,” and the person replied, “Yes.” “And you are a donkey,” and again, “Yes.” So the problem, my dear, is language. Otherwise, we are all one. We are all created out of five elements, which will be our subject, and also ten prāṇas. In every creature there are these ten prāṇas, pañcakośas, and various other things. Everyone has red blood, yet they are very different. Everyone has the fire element and the water element. We are all citizens of one world, this beautiful Mother Earth. So where is the problem in fighting? The problem is misunderstanding, the duality of language. Therefore, there are 8.4 million different creatures. Every tree, every drop of water, everything is pervaded by this prāṇa. So where is the problem? We are all one; the language is different. Of those 8.4 million different creatures, it must not be that you have to go through all of them. But it can be. It must not be that you have been travelling through 8.4 million different creatures – but definitely some millions, definitely. So what is our background, our history? We do not know. We only know one thing: that we are very thankful. To God, or whoever is guiding the souls, we are grateful. Human life has been given to us. Out of the sound, with the sound, the separation begins. And the destination is to come back to that bindu, that point. So how far does this sound of ours go? In every sense of the body, that sound is still there. Know where space is empty without that sound. All the vegetation, plants, and everything are nourished not only from these five elements, but by that Prāṇa which comes through the Brahman – not the Rūpaparabrahma. That sound is the Brahman itself. It is that sound, that Prāṇa, which keeps the body and consciousness alive, like cement and brick united together. There is that one in many. From one, many. “Eko’ham bahusyāmi.” I am one, and now multiply. “Ek” means one, and “bahu” means many. “Ek se anek” – from one, many. And in those many, there is only that one. As Gurujī used to say, one in all and all in one. The same God is within us and within other creatures. But Mother Nature are God’s employees, our co-workers, the members of the Cosmic Parliament. All have different faculties, different portfolios, and according to that they are working. So the human body is occupied by many, many different forces. It is not easy to get this human body, my dear. This body is like the body of God. This bungalow, the human body, is wonderful. “Jīṣmen Nārāyaṇ bole, par Gurū bin bhed koṅkole” – in it God Himself is speaking, but who can reveal to you the secret of the One who is speaking without the Gurudev? Brahma, Viṣṇu, and Śiva – these are the three guṇas, because without these guṇas creation cannot take place. So Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Śiva: the creator, Brahmā Śakti, has the power to give blessings, and what Brahmā promises must be fulfilled. Viṣṇu is the sustaining energy; Viṣṇu Śakti is the sustainer, and Śiva Śakti is the destroyer. The fourth principle is called the Guru Principle. Therefore it is said in the mantra: “Gurur Brahmā, Gurur Viṣṇuḥ, Gururdevo Maheśvaraḥ, Gurur Sākṣāt Parabrahma, Tasmai Śrī Guruve Namaḥ.” This mantra tells us about these four most important powers or energies in the universe. The Guru energy has that faculty, that portfolio, to bring the bhaktas to Brahmaloka. Bhakti does bring one to Brahmaloka. And therefore, human life is very precious. Otherwise, it is a “ṭūṭeko chorāsī” – if you miss it, you will fall into the chorāsī. Chorāsī means, again, the 8.4 million cycles of birth and death of different creatures. Destiny, karma – that will decide. So if you are holding one torchlight in your hand, you can guide many; but when the battery is finished, then you will fall into the darkness, into the hole. Vairāgya, Bhakti, Jñāna, and Tyāga… and hell is still more comfortable. Hell does not have such hard torturing. You see, what is hell? And what are the narakas? You should read. In Chinese literature, they know how to torture, yes; they have good techniques. I hope you will not learn that. So then you will see what kind of fire, and this and that. In the Bible it is also like that, and in the Purāṇas likewise. If it were not so, only one real reason would speak of this. In every country, in every culture, there have been great souls, great saints. They are warning us because they saw it. If you follow, it is your benefit. If you don’t follow, it is your loss. The traffic rules and regulations show you the side. There is an indication with an arrow. It was dark; no one was there. How did this come? Maybe radar or camera? Or did you see it? It was a surprise. You were angry. Similarly, my dear, if you think that what you do, nobody sees, it will come. What kind of karma? Do not torture someone. Do not harm someone. Therefore, everywhere it is said: don’t do to others what you don’t like to be done to you. But when āsurik śakti awakens and they are searching for blood, that’s it. It is said that once a shark tastes human blood, it will always come in the direction where a human will be. Once a tiger, or these cats, leopards, and so on – then they all will go and search for that blood. So the āsurī śakti awakens. Then other desires awaken, and then everything will be pulled along with them. Therefore, prāṇa, energy – positive energy, good energy – is very important. Don’t think, “This is my life and I will enjoy it how I want.” Yes, you are right. It is your life. You are right – do what you want. You have the right to do what you want, but you know the consequences, not here but somewhere else. Don’t be surprised. Therefore, the human body, human mind, human emotion, human intellect, human intelligence, human consciousness, and the hidden powers in humans are indescribable and very beautiful. And all this is given to you for free. Both are inside: devas and asuras are within you. So which do you want to utilize? With whom do you want to be friends? Like that, it will be. Therefore, human life is the chance. It can be that again and again you will be born as a human if you have developed more human qualities. When someone is very cruel, we say, “Oh God, he has no human heart.” And in Europe they say, “Our God, he is not a Christian” – meaning a cruel person. You see the same thing. We also say, “No dayā, no mercy – must be a Rākṣasa.” Everywhere it is the same, and where is it? In us. God protect us from those awakening negative energies. “Manus janam amolak hīro, bar bar nei pai.” So we can give as much glory as we can to this human life; still it is too little. Understand what it means for us to be human, what we have within. What we have in ourselves, how rich we are: we are protectors, we are liberators, we are saviours for ourselves as well as for others. So, all the great saints, whatever they have written – first, they were writing to achieve the goal, the destination of this all. Everything is within us. Therefore, we come back again to the subject. Brahma Vidyā, Brahma Jñāna. Vidyā and Jñāna, they are two. Vidyā is that which you are still learning and studying. Vidhi is the technique, the method you are learning. The result of this learning will be jñāna. Through Brahmavidyā, we will realize Brahmajñāna. The value is the jñāna, nothing else. So there is Brahman, the space, and energy, prāṇa. You may call it śakti. All is the līlā of the śakti. The miracles of the śakti – that is prāṇa. Therefore we call prāṇa the lord of our life. The one who gave us this life, who protects our life, is Prāṇa. Prāṇa is very important. There is a story in the Upaniṣad. There were five very important people living in one house. One of them was the energy of listening, of hearing – the ability to hear. She said, “I am the most important. If you don’t give me the high position, I will go.” They said, “OK, go.” So now that one became dead – could not hear anything, but life was going on as it is. You could not hear, but you could walk, eat, anything. After one month, he came back. “Can I come, please, and join you?” “Welcome. Who told you to go away?” Then the eyes were fighting. “We are the most important. We are the most important,” like Gurū Nānak said, “Deha nen bina, candra ren bina, mandira dīpa bina – the body without eyes.” I said, “I am the most important. If you don’t give me all power, I go.” Then came the words, Vāk, who said, “I am the best one. My words have power. Through my words I can destroy you, kill you, or I can liberate you. My words, I tell you, so give me the power.” It is not possible, but then I go – your choice. So now he can’t speak anymore, but he was surviving. The fifth one was prāṇa. So all these four – one, two, three, and four, which was the touching – these four were there. Then Prāṇa said… They said, “Prāṇa, we don’t like you. We are sitting here all silent.” So he said, “Should I go?” “Yes.” Prāṇa began to lift the body. They cried, “Please, please, Prāṇa, come back, come back!” So it is said: in the body, prāṇa is very important. The fourth one was mind. Mind said, “I am the best one.” And he was told, “Okay, then be happy.” The mind said, “No, I want to be governor.” That’s not possible. “I go.” Your choice. So the mind went away, and the person became mentally – how do you call it – disabled. But the body was surviving. So the eyes, ears, mind, and words – they all have to surrender. Without prāṇa, there is no life. So from prāṇa we came; through prāṇa we are coming, surviving. And that prāṇa is that śakti, divine śakti. Consciousness is Śiva. These two are very important. If consciousness goes, prāṇa will go. If prāṇa goes, consciousness will go. This is an ever-eternal relation, eternal oneness. So the main prāṇa is called cosmic energy, equally supplied around the universe, equally to our vegetation and everything. Gain the energy. Similarly, the Ātmā Jñānī Gurudev – in him there is endless wisdom. Every day you can take as much as you like; there is nothing less. That is called the source of the prāṇa energy. Therefore, our Gurudev says: “Svāmī Madhavānandjī Prakāś Puṇḍya Yamṛta Kīsā, Śrī Dīpa Harī Madhanī, Prakāś Puṇḍya Kīsā, Śrī Dīpa Harī Madhanī. Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandjī Bhagavān Kī Jai, Deveśvara Mahādeva Kī Jai, Sab Ṛṣi Muni Mahātmā Kī Jai, Oṁ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ…”
