We Cannot Deny Guru Principle

Guru Pūrṇimā has two explanations. The first is the day the earth first experienced the complete light of sun and moon directly, symbolizing the union of Śiva’s power and the earth. The second is the birthday of Vedavyāsa, who preserved the spoken wisdom into written Vedas to sustain it.

The guru principle is eternal and undeniable, like nature's existence. All learning systems, from kindergarten professors to animal parents, rely on this paramparā. This wisdom awakens hidden potential through the interaction of master and disciple. Authentic knowledge flows from Śruti, the heard scriptures, into Smṛti, remembered tradition, conveyed by a Śrotriya to a listener. The qualified guru, a Śrotriya Brahmaniṣṭha, imparts Brahmavidyā beyond gender. Vedavyāsa, foreseeing humanity's fading memory, transcribed the Vedas with Gaṇeśa's aid under a strict pact of uninterrupted speech. This act preserved Sanātana Dharma, the eternal universal law inherent in life itself, which continues regardless of personal belief.

"One person came to Mahāprabhujī and said, 'I don’t believe in God.' Mahāprabhujī said, 'And why? Does God lose? We need God; God doesn’t need us.'"

"Ved Vyāsa said, 'I will not wait for one second. Whatever I speak must be written immediately.' Gaṇeś said, 'Done. But if you stop just for half, five seconds, to overthink, I will not write anymore.'"

There are two kinds of explanation about Guru Pūrṇimā. The first is that when, for the first time, the Earth came out of the water, and the first light of the sun and moon was experienced by this earth, or touched the earth directly—not through the water—that was Guru Pūrṇimā. Pūrṇa means completeness. That sunlight is Śiva’s Śakti, Śiva’s power, and this earth is Śakti, or Brahmā and Māyā. Between Brahmā and Māyā is our Ātmā. Secondly, the explanation of Guru Pūrṇimā that people generally know and give is that it is the birthday or incarnation of Bhagavān Vedavyāsa. You all know about Vedavyāsa. It was the great effort of Vedavyāsa to present the Vedas. Before the Vedas, there was only what was spoken, always given from master to disciple. In this way, that spirituality, that wisdom, remains alive. So that’s called the system, the principle of the master, the guru, and the disciple. It doesn’t matter if you accept it or not; it doesn’t change. A blind person said, "There is no green color in the world," and if there is, "we don’t accept." The blind one may not see, but we know there is green color, and it is so pleasant for our eyes. So many people say, "We don’t like guruism, we don’t like guru." If you like or you don’t like, that is not a problem with the guru. One person came to Mahāprabhujī and said, "Mahāprabhujī, I don’t believe in God." Mahāprabhujī said, "And why? Does God lose? We need God; God doesn’t need us." You remember His Excellency Mr. Gupta, Ambassador of India to Budapest? In his last lectures in Budapest, he said, "Nature doesn’t need us. We need nature." True? So if you like the guru or you don’t like the guru, it’s your problem. Who are you to judge? This is Kali Yuga. But the guru paramparā is there. Without the guru paramparā, the entire European system will collapse. What do I mean? The guru paramparā begins from kindergarten: your kindergarten, then comes your primary school, middle school, high school, college, and so on. All the professors, teachers, they are your gurus. And especially in the European system or Western system, without a guru, you are lost. When you go to search for a job, they don’t ask your knowledge; they ask for your diploma. Aha, very good, because that is verified by your professor, by your teacher. The word "teacher" means guru; "professor" means proper sir—not a stupid sir, but a proper sir. Therefore, the guru principle you can’t deny. Even the animals, the birds, they have their guru. Mother, father, they all learn from them how to live. Therefore, this is a vidyā, which awakens our hidden talents and abilities. There is one stone and one magnet, iron. When you crash them together, then the fire comes. So this is between master and disciple. Then you are awakened. Then the light of the fire of knowledge awakes in us. So from the time of the Manu—Manu is the first man in the creation, the first human—and you should read the Manu Smṛti. Smṛti means whatever we remember. So that was called Smṛti, the memory. Smṛti comes from the Śruti. Śruti is Smṛti. Śruti means what was spoken and heard. And now, what you remember, what remains with you, that remembrance is smṛti, the memory. So, this needs three. One is called śruti. Whatever you speak should be authentic to those ancient literatures. But now, how do you do? Everyone plays the guru. It’s okay; in some way, you are. But there are little gurus and many kangaroos, jumping here and there. The best guru is your mother. Your mother, so from anyone you learn something, that is by nature your teacher, your master. Finally, Sadguru. So from the Smṛti or Śruti, there is Smṛti. Through this Smṛti, you are known as a wise one. Then you become a śrotriya, meaning you are a speaker. What you speak from Śruti and Smṛti, you become a śrotriya. Satguru Dev is that one who is called a śrotriya brahmaniṣṭha. Srotriya means he or she—both can be guru; woman also and man also. In spirituality, there is no gender duality. Some people or philosophers say women have no soul, so I ask you, my dear one, practically, why should I look in the book if you have a soul or not? I ask you all, my sisters and mothers here, and my children, those who are called female, do you have a soul? There were only three heads; the others were not. So, how do you know that you don’t have a soul? Do you have a soul or not? Gensky. Soviet Union’s Gensky. Power. You have, my dear. First, God is mother. You are a soul, ātmā. You are a living being. What does a man think? We always say, "God, he, he, who." Who is he? Why don’t we say she? But this we will speak on next time. So Gurudev can be male or female, no problem. But there should be Guru quality, that blessing. Ānanda Mahimā in Haridwar was living. How many people adored her as a Gurudev? So we have many, many holy mothers, and we have already, still. This is the Sanātana. All systems will come and go away. Many religions will come and again go, but that eternal Sanātana will continue for us just as long as the sun is here. Then we will manifest it again differently. So if you believe in the guru or you don’t believe in the guru, this is not a problem. So your teacher is your guru. The problem is language. Conflict is a culture, and fighting is a stupidity. So there should not be duality. So brahmaniṣṭha is one who is the knower of the Brahman. Śrotriya is one who can give us the knowledge of the Brahman and the Brahmavidyā. That’s called Brāhmaṇiṣṭha Śrotriya Satgurudev. There’s a long, long title: Priyavrajakāchārya. So, so many, many titles. But simply Gurudev, that’s it. So, that Śrotriya... The śrotā, now you are all śrotā. I am a speaker, and you are the audience, the listener. So, śruti, smṛti, śrota, śrotriya. These are Sanskrit. But what is spoken remains in memory. Who speaks? And now who is listening? Now, how will you give it further? That depends on you. You should understand the words, not only the language, but you should understand the sense of it. Not like this, that it is said, "Don’t tell anyone. Don’t tell anybody." Now, this Srotriya told you, Srotriya told you, and you are Srotriya, you heard it. After a few days, the whole world knows. So you told? I told you, don’t tell anyone. Gurudev, your Guruvākya, your words are holy and divine to me. I keep my words. I didn’t tell anyone, but I told everyone. And even I left it out. That’s now the difference in the understanding. One man wanted to buy a cow and paid money. And the farmer brought a goat. So the buyer said, "But I asked you for the cow." "Yes, but I over-thought. I would like to give you something, the best one. Sorry, what is that? Look. The goat is small. It needs a small space. Goat has a small stomach. It eats this. Goat makes little dirt. And you can milk any time. The cow eats a lot of feed. It needs more space. You need someone to clean everything. And you can’t milk whenever you want; only at a fixed time. In every aspect, it’s economic." But he said, "But I want a cow, not a goat." So, therefore, the authentic literature—what was spoken by great men of the world—that we forgot. What was the dream of your leaders of this country in the last centuries? What were they struggling for? What did they want for you, for this country, to have? And what are you doing now, my dear? It’s not like that. There are so many people sitting, the whole meadow is full, but no one can indicate who is from which country. Otherwise, the Czechs had a different hat, the Salzburgers had a different hat, the Tyroleans had a different hat. The Croatians had a different hat, the Hungarians had a different hat. Now this modern thing, everything, ṛṣi-biṣi, kicheli—Kitchel is healthy also. So, Śruti, Smṛti, Śrota, Śrotriya. These are the four. So, Śruti is authentic scriptures. Śruti is what you remember. Śrotriya is who is explaining to you now. And śrotā, you are listeners. Now, how you will present my teaching, that depends on some very important part of your body. And that is between two ears. And it has a link directly to the second important part. And that’s between the chest. So how you receive here and perceive and feel here, these are two things. Therefore, emotion, mind, intellect, and intelligence. So there are a few journalists sitting, and tomorrow they will write completely different things than what was spoken. Nowadays, the media likes whatever you call this scandal. If media would write about good quality humans, ethical and spiritual principles, organic food, humanity, and a culture of no duality in religion, media can create world peace within one hour, and media can destroy the whole world within five minutes. That’s it. So, the best media now is only one: God. We trust in God. So, the Americans write on their money, "We trust in God." So, we trust also in Guru Deva. Now, therefore, the Vedas were there before Brahma was there. And then these Vedas were given to Brahma. Brahma has four hands, and there are four Vedas. And each Veda has its Mahāvākyas. And it’s Brahmā, through his Prāṇa Śakti, he creates Saptaṛṣis, and so how the world begins. And so it was only spoken; a lot of wisdom was lost. What you have, you give it, otherwise it will be lost. Means whatever knowledge you have—a good thing—give it further, that will remain alive; otherwise, it will be lost. So Sanātana Dharma is that principle, that system, that eternal universal law that will remain ever and ever. Because your physical body itself is a Sanātana. He brought five elements together, so you can say, "Well, I am Buddhist now. I don’t need the five elements in me." What will happen? You will die, so it doesn’t matter which religion you believe. That is a teaching, but Sanātana is your entire life. So when the Vedavyāsa incarnated—a long story you can read in the Mahābhārata or see in the Mahābhārata videos; very beautiful—so Vedavyāsa was Trikāla Darśī, knower of past, present, and future. So he came to know that in Kali Yuga, the memory of the people will be finished. Smṛti, the memory. Our grandmothers and grandparents know by heart more names and telephone numbers. But we don’t know. Is there someone, a lucky one sitting, who knows 50 numbers by heart, telephone numbers? I’m not asking myself, okay, only you. We don’t remember. Because we became independent, or dependent. We are depending on the machines. When someone is speaking, you have to speak five or six times to give you eight numbers. "One, three, five, seven, nine, two, five." "Can you repeat once more, please? Three, five, and I forgot. Can you tell me once more, please? Okay, I will send you an SMS." That is a condition of our memory, my dear. What can Ved Vyāsa expect from us? So Bhagavān Ved Vyāsa was worried, but he had one dilemma. He can’t think and write at the same time. He had to go to some other locales to collect those divine vibration mantras, as the Vedas said. So he was asking if there is someone who can write, and I will speak. He didn’t find anyone, so he went to Bhagavān Gaṇeśjī. Gaṇeśjī is known as the intelligent one, the intellectual one, the wise one, and kind one—in every aspect, the best qualities. So Ved Vyāsjī came to Gaṇeśjī and asked him, and he said, "Yes, okay, Ṛṣi, I will help you." "What do you want?" he said. "I see this Vedic knowledge will disappear. I wish that someone would write something." Ganeshī said, "I can do it." Ved Vyāsa said, "Gaṇeśī, there is a very hard condition, a very tough one." "What?" "I will not wait for one second. One second means to give you the time to ask a question. Whatever I speak must be written immediately. Don’t ask me, 'How was this?' Can you tell me once more that I don’t want this?" And Gaṇeś said, "Done. But I have my condition too." "Ved Vyāsa, ṛṣi. If you stop just for half, five seconds, to overthink, I will not write anymore. You have to speak fluently." Ved Vyāsa said, "Done." But, Ved Vyāsa said, "But Gaṇeśa, there is one problem more. When your ink is gone, or your pen is broken, then you will say, 'Moment, please, I have to get ink.' I don’t want an interval between. How will you solve this problem, Ganeśī?" Ganeshji said, "No problem." He broke one of his teeth. "This pen will never go kaput." So Ganeśjī broke his one tooth and began to write. So Bhagavān Ved Vyāsa wrote many, many scriptures. The Vedas and Upanishads, given by the ṛṣis and many others, are Vedavyāsa’s līlā. So Ved Vyāsa Jī was born on this day. Vedavyāsa Jī was born on this day. On which day? Guru Pūrṇimā. So the coming Pūrṇimā is the birthday of Vedavyāsa. So Vedavyāsa is acknowledged as a Gurudev, and this seat where I’m sitting is symbolizing this holy seat of Vedavyāsa. This is called Vyās Pīṭh. Like we have Alak Purījī Siddhā Pīṭh, also Alak Purījī Siddhā Pīṭh is a Vyās Pīṭh. Who will sit here with that devotion, with that humbleness, and with that surrendering? And you need to read. Only one sentence, and further, it is the Veda Vyāsa talking in you, like that my Guru Dev is speaking in me, you see. So much knowledge. It is like when you put milk on the fire, the milk becomes hot and comes out. Similarly, that love, wisdom, donation, and devotion come out. The Mother Sarasvatī, God of the Wisdom, she supplies everything. She is sitting in the Kaṇṭha Kamal in Viśuddhi Chakra. All the Devas in the universe have their portfolios, and no one interferes with them. Viṣṇu cannot interfere, Śiva cannot interfere. Brahma cannot interfere, which is given to you. If you are making mistakes, then it is taken out of you, then you are taken out. So, Guru Tattva, Guru Vākya, Guru Tattva, Guru Vākya, Guru Gāḍī, and the guru dīkṣā. Sannyās dīkṣā, when you have sannyās, if you follow the principle, automatically is given you the treasure. Holy Gurujī said, Mahāprabhujī said, "Mādhavānand, I give you the entire world, the whole universe. You are king of all. Now you should know how to rule." That’s all. Once, the Indian president Dr. Radhakrishna asked Holī Gurujī to come and bless him, because Holī Gurujī had told him one year before, "On that day, at that time, you will become president of India." So Gurujī went to Delhi, and in the president’s house they welcomed Gurujī. And Gurujī was sitting in one room, till the president would come. And the secretary of the president called in that room, and he asked on the phone to Gurujī, "What is your designation?" Gurujī said, "King of the whole world." "Yes, sir, thank you." So, sannyāsī, if you follow all the rules, you are the king of the universe, but this is a fire. If you make a mistake, it will burn you. So this is about Guru Pūrṇimā, literally. So Mahāprabhujī’s bhajan is there. Bhagavad Gītā, Hind Deshkā, this orange flag of Hindustān. It is adorable, it is adored from beginning now till ever. Shiva’s place is called Shiv Sāṅkar kī Gaṅdhī. Next, tomorrow, my dear ones, bless you, and we will now have a special ceremony, and we are preparing for the new moon with a beautiful symbol. I hope everybody has it in their hands, and we will have prayer. Thank you, adios. Deveśvara Mahādeva kī, Mādhav Kṛṣṇa Bhagavān kī, Sanātana Dharma kī.
