Remembering On Paramyogeshwar Sri Devpuriji

Divine souls descend to guide mortals from suffering to immortality. One such master left the mortal world decades ago, having announced his departure. He first appeared in mountain ranges, his entire life marked by miraculous deeds and foreknowledge for human welfare. He transformed worldly people into saints. We mistakenly identify with our temporary roles and bodies, but reality is different. Great gurus come to reveal the path from mortality to immortality. If fortunate to follow their teachings as disciples, they guide every step, avoiding hardships, provided we cultivate trust and devotion. He once dissolved his own ashram when he saw people attended only for food and atmosphere, commanding all to flee as the building fell. He then wandered with animal disciples; only those with sufficient faith could perceive the true knowledge he offered. Life proceeds by the saints' grace; without it, ignorance prevails. Two paths exist: satsang leads to enlightenment, kusang to suffering. Good past karma allows the fortunate to encounter a holy guide. This human life is for purification and self-realization. Before leaving, he prophesied that a great soul would come to guide the world, a role now fulfilled by the present master. The divine continuously sends great souls for liberation. The disciple's closeness determines the master's proximity. Nothing compares to a divine master's work; they live solely for the benefit of all beings. Without a spiritual guide, one is like a blind person in a dense forest. Therefore, developing devotion to the master is the way to a successful and glorious conclusion of life.

"Gurudev is as far from the disciple as the disciple is far from the Gurudev."

"There are two ways... If in front of 'sang' we put 'sat', we get satsang... If we put 'ku', we get kusang."

Oṁ Bhagavān Kī Jai, Śrī Śrī Dev Puruṣa Mahādeva Kī Jai, Dharmahaṁsī Sāī Mādhava Kṛṣṇa Bhagavān Kī Jai, Viśva Guru Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara Paramahaṁsī Sāī Mahiṣānjī Satguru Deva Kī Jai Ho. Dear Guru brothers and sisters around the world, friends, bhaktas, divine ātmās. Today we are celebrating a great day, the day when Śrī Devapurījī Mahārāj, the Gurudev of Śrī Mahāprabhujī, left the mortal world, took his brahmalīn, and went again back to the Śivaloka from where he came. From time to time, divine souls from very high above come to this mortal world to guide us from the sea of pain. We know that we are all divine, immortal souls. We know this because we receive the knowledge and teachings from the great masters who come to guide us from worldly life, from mortality to immortality. One of them was Param Yogeśwar Śrī Devapurījī Mahārāj. It was about 70, 71, or 72 years back, on this day, the 8th of August, that he left the body. He told his disciples, "My dear ones, tomorrow at this time I will leave the world, the mortal world." And that day he left. Devapurījī Mahārāj became known to the world when he was quite young. He was living in the mountains of the Mount Abu range. He came there from the Himalayas; we don’t know when, but his first appearance was in Mount Abu. All his life was surrounded by miracles because whatever he did, he did. He was known as a trikāla-darśī, one who knows the past, present, and future. All his deeds were very well planned in advance for the well-being of us mortal humans. There are many stories of how he changed the way of life of people who were completely immersed in worldly things, transforming them in such a way that they became saintly. We start to think about our higher self, about our real self. Who are we? Nowadays, industries are making robots with steel bodies and electronic minds—very sophisticated robots. We enter into this body. We can look with the eyes or through the eyes; it is a big difference. When we live in families, we believe that we are whatever we say—that this is the truth, this is the reality—that we are Mr. So-and-so, an engineer or a worker. But reality is something different. Believing that we are these bodies, that we are these engineers, doctors, workers, Indians, Europeans, or humans, is not the ultimate truth. To show us the way from mortality to immortality, the great souls, the gurus, the sadgurus, come to this earth and guide us. If we are lucky enough to follow their path, to follow their Vākyas (their words and teachings), and lucky enough to become a disciple, a devotee, a bhakta, then they will take responsibility to take care of our each and every step. They will guide us in such a way that they will avoid all hardships, all traps, all hard moments we have in our life. But we have to develop trust, obedience, and bhakti. From there, we will get the knowledge, the divine words, mantras, which will carry us towards the real or other worlds, towards immortality. Śrī Devapurījī was teaching for some time in his āśram in Kailāś, in the Sīkar district. But when he realized that his satsaṅgs were full of people, full of devotees, mainly because after the satsaṅg a lot of food was distributed—the atmosphere was pleasant because around holy persons a beautiful atmosphere is created; their radiance automatically surrounds and purifies us, and a purified, pure mind is the only way we can achieve a higher level of consciousness—when he realized people were coming mainly for the good food and atmosphere, he decided to break his ashram. He just said, "Run, run, the ashram will fall down." People were surprised because the ashram was new, but it started to shake, the upper floor fell down, and people ran away. From that time on, Śrī Devapurījī walked through Rajasthan, the Sīkar district and the Nāgaur district near Kāṭū, Bāṛīkāṭū, Riṅgās, and so on, with his followers. And who were the followers? Animals: cows, horses, goats, dogs, snakes. They were his disciples, obeying each and every one of his words. But the lucky few who were close enough, who had developed enough faith, enough viśvāsa, enough bhakti, who were able to see beyond the appearance and hear the voice of jñāna from the mouth of Śrī Devapurījī, they were following and benefiting from his blessings. It is said that life goes on by the blessings of the saints and by Guru Kṛpā. Without the Guru, without the blessings of the saints, without their mercy, we would be lost in the darkness of ignorance. Just see what is going on nowadays. Swāmījī, our beloved Gurudev, Swami Maheśvarānandajī, says, "There are two ways." One path will lead you to happiness, to bliss, to heaven. The second path will lead you to darkness, to suffering, to hell. Both paths start with the word 'saṅg'. If in front of 'saṅg' we put 'sat' (truth), we get satsaṅg. Satsaṅg is the way to come from suffering to enlightenment. If in front of 'saṅg' we put 'ku', we get kusaṅg. Kusaṅg will lead us to pain and suffering. Just look outside this ashram, open your TV, read a newspaper, go to the cinema. What will you find? Satsaṅg can be attained by the lucky ones, those blessed by their previous karmas. We know our life is guided and goes on as per our karmas, as per our deeds from previous lives. It is said: how you live today, know what we did in the past. How we live today and what we do today, we know how we will live tomorrow. So, those lucky ones who have enough good karmas can meet, can have darśan of the Gurudev, the holy person, the holy saint. We got a life on this earth to make good karma, to purify ourselves, and to achieve self-realization: Ātmajñāna and Brahmajñāna. Śrī Devapurījī left this mortal world 70 years back, and his deeds and blessings are very nicely described in the book written by the Master, the Divine Master, Holy Gurujī, as we know him, Svayamadvanandajī Mahārāj. These are deeds that happened 70, 80, 100 years ago. But Śrī Devapurījī said at Naki Lake, when one day an officer was quite unhappy with the Prārthanā, the evening prayers going on in a temple in an ashram near Naki Lake. That officer simply decided to stop, to close the ashram. The paṇḍits and sannyāsīs there started to pray to Lord Śiva to save them. Śrī Devapurījī appeared suddenly. He took upon himself the poison which was meant for those people who went to fast and were praying to Lord Śiva. He drank it. When they all thought he was dead, he jumped up, grabbed that English officer by the neck, and carried him to the deepest point of Naki Lake. That officer was blessed by the divine religion and realized Śrī Devapurījī is the incarnation of Lord Śiva. He begged for mercy and begged for a great son. People have no idea what a great soul, a great son, can do for humanity. So they would be blessed with such a great soul. That’s the time Śrī Devapurījī said, "Yes, Satyaloka will come to the earth, will come to your countries, and will guide you." He was speaking about Swāmījī Mahārāj, our beloved Gurudev, Paramahaṁsa Swami Maheśvarānandajī, Viśvagurujī, Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara. And what Śrī Devapurījī was for that time—giving knowledge and blessings to the people—our Gurudev is for us now in this time. Holy Gurujī, Swami Madhavānandajī, said many times, "You see, you can have the horse in the garden or the horse in the picture. Whom can you ride? That one in the picture? No, you cannot. But that one in the garden can carry you far, far away." Similarly, they were leaving many, many sons in this beautiful world, Mother Earth, all around the world. But most of them were incarnated in this land, which Swāmījī calls the Holy Land, India, Holy Land Bhārat: Rām Bhagavān, Kṛṣṇa Bhagavān, Mahāvīra Swāmī, Guru Nānak, and many, many of them. They are incarnating. They are here. And Bhārat is exporting them to the West. That also means people from other parts of the world have the opportunity to receive their blessings, to be under their protection. We are fortunate that the divine power is still merciful enough to send its great souls, Mahātmas, to this mortal world to guide us, to lead us, and to carry us toward our higher self, toward liberation, Mokṣa. All we need is to follow, to develop certain... The more we become close to the Master, the Divine Master, the more He is close to us. Holy Gurujī said, "Gurudev is as far from the disciple as the disciple is far from the Gurudev." Take a measuring tape and measure it. So, Gurudev, the Divine Master, is here. It is for us, for everyone. It is like the sun, shining on everything on this planet. It is up to us how much we take. Or, said differently, the telephone has two sides, two persons, and the Gurudev’s telephone is always on. If we switch our telephone on, it’s up to us. There is nothing in this world that can be compared to the work of the Divine Master Satgurudev. Nothing. There is no such profession, nothing that can be compared. The great souls, when they come to this world, decide, take the oath that they will live only for humanity, for others. They don’t exist for themselves. Whatever they do is for the benefit of others, for the benefit of their disciples, for the benefit of humanity, for the benefit of the animals, for the benefit of the plants, and the environment in general. There are not only humans on this planet; there are animals too, there are plants. And humans have forgotten their duty, forgotten that mission. They become distractors; they are not protectors of others. So, to put humans—us—on the proper track, the Sadguru is needed. I come from a very small country. In each country, people are part of the Jaipur. There are two million people, but it’s very beautiful. We have a small piece of sea and a small part of the mountains. We are very proud of the mountains and love them very much. We joke and say, "No one who does not climb the highest peak in our country has any right to carry the name Slovenian." It’s a joke. But no one who does not bow to the Divine Master, who does not get a discipleship, who does not get a Master, is a complete human. You know that story: one family was leaving; they were all devoted, they had their own Gurujī. By the Gurujī’s blessing, the daughter was married into a very nice, rich family. But those people were mainly oriented in worldly things—business, no time for anything, good houses, cars, and whatever good life brings. She was a little sad, but she was praying to her Gurudev. Her devotion, her pūjās, were not very well accepted. The mother-in-law said to her, "What are you doing, these pūjās and agarbattīs and dīpak? Sit, watch TV, enjoy, look at good movies, go out, go shopping, go out with friends." But she was praying. One day a saint came to the door. He came and said, "Mātā Dehi Bhikṣāṃ Dehi Mātā." She was happy and immediately invited him, "Please, Gurujī, I am here." She gave him nice food and some presents. When they were sitting there—father-in-law, mother-in-law, husband were there—he asked her, "So you receive me so nicely, do you have some Gurujī, a spiritual master?" She said, "Yes, I have. I became a disciple 12 years back, and my husband also became a disciple two years back." That’s the time he asked her, "How old are you?" She said, "12 years." "12 years? How?" She said, "I got mantra dīkṣā 12 years back." "And how old is your husband? Only two years?" The father-in-law and mother were surprised. They said, "What happened to her? She’s out of her mind." And the son asked the mother-in-law. He said, "She’s not born yet." The father-in-law became quite annoyed. The son saw that and said, "Your daughter-in-law is very right. She’s speaking the truth. She’s not speaking something out of her mind. She’s speaking the truth. I will explain to you what that is. She got the mantra 12 years back. From that time, she became a real human. Her husband got the mantra two years back. And you have not received the blessing of the sun. So, still on the waiting list." They understood. Without the spiritual master, humans walk through life like a blind person searching for an exit in a deep, dense forest. It is nearly impossible for that person to find the way out of the jungle. But the Gurudev is the one who walked that way, who knows each and every step, who guides us, who protects us, who does everything for us because we are his children, his divine children. That’s why, spiritually, see your country, Mahāndeśa Bhārata. When Bhārat was guided by the Kul Gurus, by the Rājās, Mahārājās, who were listening to every word of the masters, Bhārat was full of everything, gold. They were coming from foreign countries; for hundreds of years, they were stealing and taking what they could take. Till Muhammad has sold everything. It’s not true that the back country was built. That was blackmailing from the others, and the biggest thing it has is the devotion towards the divine power, towards the Gods, towards the Devī Devtās, towards the Gurudev, towards the Suns. The biggest treasure of the divine country, Bhārata, India. Nowadays, from the West are coming glass imitations of diamonds or precious stones, but they are glass. Bhārat, these are diamonds, real diamonds. To develop devotion towards the Master is the way our life will be successful, and how we will be able to finish our life, to close this chapter, to leave this body, this mortal body and everything behind, happily, peacefully, and gloriously. So, Śrī Devapurījī Mahārāj left his body, cast off his body 71 or 72 years ago on this day, and went to his loka, back to Śivaloka, with his hands high lifted because he had done his job. I wish, I hope for all of us, that we will be wise enough, lucky enough to follow the teaching of Śrī Devapurījī, Śrī Mahāprabhujī, Śrī Holy Gurujī Madhavānandajī, Śrī Sāī Maheśvarānandajī, and that our life will finish successfully with ātmajñāna when the time comes. That we will cast our bodies and leave them here in this mortal world, Mṛtyuloka, and go to the other lokas with lifted hands. Be still.
