Human life has three purposes: to attain spiritual knowledge, to perform good deeds, and to devote oneself to the Lord. Spiritual knowledge is essential for liberation from bondage and attaining ultimate peace. Good deeds form the foundation of a righteous life. Devotion involves constant remembrance and worship of the divine. These principles guide a successful human existence.

"Ātmā vā are draṣṭavyaḥ, śrotavyaḥ, mantavyaḥ." "Sarvam prāṇam prapadye."

Part 1: The Threefold Purpose of Human Life Today is a very auspicious day. The scriptures say that human life is extremely rare and valuable, a diamond-like existence. Such a beautiful life has been given to us with a purpose. As told in our Bhagavad Gītā, a person comes to this world for three purposes: 1. To attain spiritual knowledge. 2. To perform good deeds. 3. To devote oneself to the Lord. Pūjya Svāmījī has devoted his entire life to these three purposes. He has dedicated his whole life to this world. In spiritual life—people attain various roles; some become doctors, some engineers, some good businessmen—but the ultimate goal, our primary aim, is to attain the spiritual life of the Lord, meaning we attain spiritual knowledge. The knowledge of the physical solves problems of the physical. The problem of the spiritual is solved with the knowledge of the spiritual. The knowledge of the spiritual solves the problem of the spiritual. We can attain spiritual knowledge through spiritual knowledge. But how do we attain freedom from the bondage of life? Through spiritual knowledge. Without spiritual knowledge, we cannot attain freedom from life's bondage. As long as we do not attain liberation from bondage through spiritual knowledge, we cannot attain ultimate peace and ultimate happiness. That is why our Śāstras say: "Ātmā vā are draṣṭavyaḥ, śrotavyaḥ, mantavyaḥ." We should see the Ātmā, we should listen to the Ātmā, we should contemplate the Ātmā. Therefore, the knowledge of the Self is very important. Once, Ṛṣi Yājñavalkya Jī had two wives, Kātyāyanī and Maitreyī. When Ṛṣi Yājñavalkya Jī was about to enter the Sannyāsa Āśrama, he began to divide his entire wealth between his two wives. Kātyāyanī accepted the wealth she was given. But Maitreyī Jī said, "Why are you giving me this wealth? I will not be able to attain the eternal element with this material wealth. I do not want this wealth. Give me the knowledge of the Self, the knowledge of the eternal element, so that I may become eternal forever. Give me that kind of knowledge." Thus, the knowledge of the Self is very important. Pūjya Svāmījī is very important. Pūjya Svāmījī spreads spiritual knowledge all over the world. Because it is very important for the soul. And what is the food for the soul? Meditation. What is the food for the soul? We should take some time and meditate on Mahāprabhujī. We should chant the mantra of Mahāprabhujī. The mantra of Mahāprabhujī has such great power that your greatest sorrow is overcome. So, the first objective is spiritual knowledge. The second objective of life is to perform the best of good deeds. "Yajño vai śreṣṭhaṁ karma." We used to live in huts. Because Rāmacandra Jī lived in the forest on earth, he said, "I will live humbly." So we used to live in huts. Bharat Jī performed such a great sacrifice. Bharat Jī had everything, yet he consumed nothing. He lived outside Ayodhyā for the full fourteen years. When humans possess nothing, they automatically become controlled. Even when everything is there, they have controlled themselves so much. If you look at Lakṣmaṇa Jī's character, he conquered four things: āhāra (food), nidrā (sleep), bhaya (fear), and maithuna (procreation). Until brother Rāma Jī would tell Lakṣmaṇa to eat a fruit, he would not eat anything. One can sacrifice for one's Guru... for one's Guru... So, the second objective of human life is this. And the third objective is that we should worship the Lord. Every moment, we should think of the Lord. Our Vedas say: "Sarvam prāṇam prapadye." Every moment of my life, I should think of the Lord. You may ask, "What will happen if I take the name of the Lord? What will happen if I take the name of Mahāprabhujī?" Even if there is a mountain of pain, you will not experience the pain. You will not experience the pain if you... Mahāprabhujī will protect you at all times. He will protect you at all times. Bhagavān says of His devotees: "Bhakto me muktimaṇi." If a worldly person gives something, He makes them accept His story. "Bhakto me muktimaṇi" for His devotees. And if a devotee's mouth gets burnt, it becomes fire... it becomes fire. That is how much Bhagavān sacrifices for His devotees. Therefore, let us continuously remember the name of the Lord. Let us worship the name of the Lord. Let us chant the name of the Lord. These three goals are mentioned in the Bhagavad Gītā for human life. If we follow these three goals, then surely our life will be successful. Today is a very happy day. After the pūjā, Svāmījī is fulfilling all three goals of his life. We will pray to God that he attains great dīrghāyuṣya (long life). How can he attain healthy longevity? He should have healthy longevity. For 100 years, as our Śāstra says: "Jīvema śaradaḥ śatam, bhūyaśca śaradaḥ śatam." So we all will say: "Bhagavān, Bhuvan Svāmījī, Bhuvan Svāmījī, Bhagavān, Āyuṣmān, Tejasvī, Varcasvī, Śrīmān, Vidvān, Bhūya, Bhuvan Svāmījī, Āyuṣmān. Tejasvī, Varcasvī, Śrīmān, Vidvān, Bhūyāḥ Bho Svāmijī, Āyuṣmān, Tejasvī, Varcasvī, Vidvān, Bhūyāḥ. Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara, Paramātmā, Śrī Svāmī Maheśvarānanda, Śrī Gurujī, Śrī Devpurījī, Śrī Devpurījī..." Śrī Svāmījī has presented the three principles of the Bhagavad Gītā before you. He has told us about the preparation of Svāmījī’s life. He has described the three principles of the Bhagavad Gītā in his life. He is before you all. Today, the world is filled with the religion of the Bhagavad Gītā. It is because of Svāmījī that we can see the result of this. So many people are connected with Svāmījī. They are from other religions, but their connection with Svāmījī... I came to Svāmījī in 2002. In 2002, the Prime Minister of Croatia came to Jādan. The Prime Minister had sent me and another officer to him for the arrangements. Then I came in contact with Svāmījī, and I said to Svāmījī that I wanted to take Dīkṣā. Then Svāmījī said that next time he would come to Śyāmanagar. Then I took Dīkṣā from Svāmījī. My personal experience is that after receiving the Guru Mantra from Svāmījī and after Svāmījī’s blessings came, the change that occurred in my life cannot be described in words. Svāmījī has taken away all my problems in life. Who is the Guru? The Guru shows the way. There are many needs in materialistic life. Apart from this, how can you go beyond materialistic life? Or how will you attain that supreme element? How will you have self-realization? How will you have self-knowledge? How will you know yourself? "Svāmījī kī anant kṛpā rahī mere pe." I am not a very good speaker; I will not be able to speak much. "Svāmījī ko punaḥ bhaut bhaut badāiyā." And on behalf of all of you, I bow to Svāmījī. And I wish you a healthy life of dhīra-gāyū. Since I have started to understand, I have been meditating on Bābājī. You can think of Bābā Jī as my grandfather. Since I have started to understand, I have seen Svāmījī. I will not be able to say anything in front of you. I will never be able to speak in front of Bābā Jī. I am sitting here to listen to you. I will not speak in front of you. Yogījī, Puṣpā Jī and Ratnā Jī have explained very well about Bābājī in Hindi. So please allow me to speak in English so that the people who are watching on camera will understand. Yesterday we had the celebration of Samādhi day, when Śrī Devpurījī Mahārāj left this world. And today we are celebrating again. We are celebrating the day when, in a small village in the middle of Rajasthan, in the Bālī district, in the village of Rupāvas, a small boy opened his eyes. And that small boy became a great, great personality of this day: Paramahaṁsa Svāmī Maheśvarānandajī, our beloved Gurudev, His Holiness, Viśvaguru, Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara, Paramahaṁsa, Śrī Svāmī Maheśvarānanda Purījī, Mahārāj. Svāmījī showed an inclination towards spirituality when he was very, very young. When he met his Gurudev, Paramahaṁsa Mādhavānandajī, his faith was fixed. His, Svāmījī’s, path was fixed. So he followed his Gurudev, and Gurudev gave him many, many tests. Many temptations came, and Svāmījī passed all of them with the firm decision that he wanted to dedicate his life to yoga sādhanā and to the service of mankind. Svāmījī had just entered his twentieth year when he was sent abroad by his Gurudev. And from that day on, Svāmījī is living for others, not for himself anymore. Every step, every breath, every thought, every word of Svāmījī is dedicated to somebody else. Blessed is the country where Svāmījī took life, where he was born. Blessed is India. In Vienna, blessed is every country, every city, every village upon whose earth Svāmījī’s holy feet have firmly stepped. Svāmījī has been living in Europe—actually, in the world, I can say better—for 43 years. Though his main place or residence is in Vienna, Vienna hardly sees him because Svāmījī is all the time in movement. Once Svāmījī said, "Maybe I sleep five days in my bed in one month. All other days, I am sleeping in somebody else’s bed." Svāmījī has circled the earth 42 times—42 times—traveling in airplanes, having jet lag (if you know what it means, it is terrible), coming from the airplane, having meetings, having lessons, sleeping in a hotel, the next day packing things and going to the next city, the next āśrama, the next country, which will receive the blessing of the Gurudeva. What are the activities, or let’s say subjects or the areas, in which Svāmījī is not active? We can speak about world peace. Hardly will you find in this world somebody who is working so much and dedicating his thoughts, days, mind, and words. Svāmījī organizes world peace conferences every few years all around the world. They were in Europe, they were in Australia, they were on other continents. Svāmījī dedicated his life to mankind, but not only to mankind, to all living beings, to all living creatures of this planet: animals, the environment, plants, trees. So, there is no area where Svāmījī is not active. Anywhere his action can bring something better to the world, to the people, to the environment, and to other living beings. When Svāmījī came to Europe, there were no vegetarian restaurants. There were none; all were non-vegetarian people. When I met Svāmījī, in our entire country there was no vegetarian restaurant. There was no one who would prepare vegetarian food. Svāmījī was teaching, explaining to us what vegetarian means, what it means to harm others, what the harm to humans is, and whether it is to protect... To explain, so if it is to protect, then how can we harm other living beings and then eat their flesh? Nowadays, in 40 years, I can say proudly that there is no city, nearly no village, in the majority of countries in which you will not find, in every corner, a good vegetarian restaurant. And there are no Svāmījī’s disciples who, on the day they received mantra dīkṣā, did not forget what non-veg food is. Svāmījī is planting trees wherever he goes. In every city where Svāmījī’s foot blesses that city, a peace tree is planted. What? A tree for peace. Because peace is what this world needs most. And not only that, we are planting, Svāmījī’s disciples are planting thousands and thousands of trees all around the world. Svāmījī started the action where the government of Australia, together with our governments, is planting millions, billions of trees—billions of trees. And most importantly, Svāmījī is showing us the way of life: spirituality. He is showing us that we are not just this body and mind, but that we are immortal souls. You see, there were terrible wars in the countries where Svāmījī had disciples. And what more can one do when Gurudev said to his disciples, "Don’t worry, in your country there is war, but don’t worry, I am with you." Thousands of disciples were there, thousands. No one was harmed by anything. And not only that, in that time where water is as costly as gold, where food is rare, Svāmījī organized selfless action among all disciples all around the world to help those who are living there, to help those who were in great need at that time. And it’s not only the war. Whoever comes to Svāmījī is welcome, and he will get all the help which he needs—be it spiritual, mental, or financial; it doesn’t matter. Svāmījī is a great builder who built all around the world so many ashrams, so many centers. As Gurudev built it, just see Jadān. A huge jewel is coming up, and it’s not just Jadān. Ashrams where Śrī Mahāprabhujī was living are beautiful. Śrī Devpurījī was living—beautiful. Holy Gurujī was living—beautiful. How many centers and ashrams, where hundreds of thousands of people are practicing yoga and are receiving the blessings, are in the world? No one knows except Gurudev. I heard the number 40,000. It’s huge. And to those people here in Rajasthan who are in need, the poor, Svāmījī made a hospital, a beautiful hospital. He made a school where children are getting education free if they are in need, and others on a non-profit basis. The school is not running for profit because everything is given to the people. We can go on for days and days counting the blessings and the great, great deeds which Svāmījī is giving to humanity, to this beautiful planet Earth, to Mother Earth. There is no end. So, I will slowly stop with this, with the praṇāma, prayer from all of us, Svāmījī’s disciples and Bhaktas, for a long life, happy life, and healthy life of our beloved Gurudev, Paramahaṁsa Mahāśvarānandajī. And please accept our humble, humble praṇāms. Oṁ Namaḥ Śivāya. Śaṅkara Bhagavān Kī Jaya. Devādhi Deva Deveśvara Mahādeva Kī Jaya. Parame Bhagavān Dīp Nārāyaṇa Mahāprabhujī Kī Jaya. Parampūjya Satgurudev Hindu Dharma Samrāṭ Svāmī Mādhavānandajī Mahārāj Kī Jaya. Ke Śrī Caraṇa Kamala Me Koti Koti Praṇāma. Dharma Kī Jaya Ho. Adharma Kā Nāśa Ho. Prajā Me Viśva Kā Nāśa Ho. Gau Mātā Kī Jaya Ho. Gau Atyācār Kā Nāśa Ho. Dharma Premī Sajjano Mātāoṁ, Pūjī Śrī Gurudeva Ke Sabhī Param Bhakta Sajjana... In these months, this Śrāvaṇa month is dedicated to the worship of Bhagavān Śiva. It is said that in the rainy season, other deities go on a kind of vacation. They take leave. Are the deities sleeping? Or have the deities not yet arrived? So what will happen in this regard? Within our body, our heart is so generous. Yet, we search for the purpose of our life. The protector within our body is the heart. But we have never thought of it as a heart. We eat anything, drink anything, go anywhere, and sit in any environment. This puts a very, very deep pressure on our heart, a lot of stress. Good food is said to be about āhāra, vihāra, ācāra, and vicāra (diet, recreation, conduct, and thought). Āhāra, vihāra, ācāra, and vicāra are not only for filling the stomach, not only for the senses; we are all slaves of the senses. Ācārya Rām Jī Mahārāj says there are ten senses in this body. There is a whole body of yogīs, but not two, but two senses are present and one is tasteful. He Kevalam He Kevalam... I have just heard that the lemon pickle has become so big that it has become many years old. I have not eaten the lemon pickle and the pot pickle. I said that I will bring it and eat it. Now, as soon as I took the name of the lemon pickle—not in my mouth, but in your mouth—water came. This is the taste of the senses. Now, the work of the sense of taste is different, and the work of the teeth is different. The work of the teeth should not be given to the teeth. That is why food should be chewed well. Purījī, Purījī... Not tomorrow, just now. "Kāla kare so āja kare, āja kare so ab, pal me parlā hoyegā, bhavī karegā kab." So if our sense of taste is controlled a little, then we can be free from many diseases. Fatness has increased. Why should we do abhyāsa? Mahāprabhujī kī Karatā Mahāprabhujī kī Karatā... And as you keep company, so will be your sustenance, your recreation, where to go and where not to go. All animals go to their own places. All birds reach their own nests. Friends, wherever they sit, they reach only after toil. But in the darkness, in the darkness of the night, the violent creatures keep on walking. Part 2: The Foundations of Culture and Family There is a snake, there is a scorpion, there is a lion, there is a mongrel, there is a thief, there is a drunkard, and so on and so forth. They keep on wandering here and there at night. Our Mahāpuruṣas have said that after it is dark outside, tell your children not to go out. Sit in your house, listen to the knowledge of your parents, serve your parents, and then that family remains happy. This is our Indian culture. There is no club in our Indian culture, and if there is, then there is satsaṅg. In our Indian culture, there are no parties outside. Now see, there are some people who do not respect their sisters and daughters, and sometimes they attack them. But ask them, why did you go together at this time? Why did you go? And before that, ask them, "Why did you go there at night, both of you?" Both of them get the credit. And those children are not under the permission of their parents. Jaisī śikṣā deoge, vaisā wo mānav ban jāyegā. So sabse acchī śikṣā mānav banātī hai, wo mātā pitā kī godh me miltī hai. Bhāī, jis din tumhārā baccā āp kyā kehte ho, āj kāl ke nursery school, KG school, kindergarten, agar usme bhej diyā, us din ab ye baccā āp kā hai? Ari Om Tat Sat. Phir to bār ke ṭhappade khāyeṅge, Purījī, Purījī... Ask you on the telephone, "Hi, how nice, you have got a child. Do you have a babysitter?" And that child, that small child, he doesn’t know that the babysitter is there, but the real mother is there. And in the evening, no one gets time; they go to a party, and there they call a babysitter. Such children, whom you give such education, it is not the fault of those children; it is the fault of the mother and father. He Kevalam He Kevalam... Allo, Maare Marwaad mein tato kevalam bakri doodh koni niyane, budhi wegi niyane, pagli niyane. Beka hai, ma dekhaon ki wo tato kade giyo re, bo tato hai. Gajab ho gai, aur mā kī godh kā pyār jo miltā hai, aur jo mā kā dūdh miltā hai, vo dūdh bhī kam ho gayā, aur dūsrā dūdh lāte, vo naklī dūdh hai. Arre, 25 baras tak, 30 baras tak kehde, arre beta, tu to tabar hai, tere ātmā te hāl mā ro dūdh chamakrī ho hai. Today, who is the lucky child who will get the opportunity to drink mother’s milk for the whole year, son? Mothers and fathers make humans, and the culture of the second generation will make us dons. That is why we have to get the knowledge of our culture. There is God. The form of God is the soul, the same soul. God enters the soul. Thare, jara dharmātmā veya to ke ge dharmātmā āyā? Issa to dharmātmā koī liye? Brahma loka kā dvāra khuḷā hai, svarga kā Brahma loka. Svarga to choṭo kamriyo hai. Isi liye devatā kehte svarga meṅ ki he prabhu, svarga ke karma pūrā ho jāne ke bāda agar hameṅ chorā se jānā paṛe to manuṣya kā śarīra denā. Abhi Amare Pushpājī De Kahā, Dr. Pushpājī ne kī, Bhagavad Gītā mein tīn uddeśya likhe haiṅ. To hamāre jīvan kā kyā uddeśya hai? Ye jīvan jo, ye mātra sacc hai ki manuṣyī kī śarīra ke bāda, śarīra chorne ke bāda aur koī yonī nahīṅ milegī. Nahīṅ, nahīṅ, nahīṅ. Life is a journey, not a destination. So we are walking on this path; we have not reached the end yet. After going up to 84, there is no one left after the human body, so we will have to go down again to 84. So the ultimate goal of human life is to live with the ātmā and Paramātmā. Satsaṅg Karanā. And those who do false work, do bad work, do deceit, speak lies, and do all sorts of things, do not do spiritual practice, do not do worship, in the great land of India, after one time, three times, I have written, I have seen, I am telling you, I have been wandering for 40 years, that same 40 years, in our country. Kya kīyoge, amāre deś ke nīnānu pratiśat be-īmān, phir bhī amārā Bhārat mahān. Bolo to mahāro Bhārat to mahān hī hai. Jahā bhī jātā ho, to Hindustān kī saṁskṛti kī yahī bāt kehtā ho, unko bhī yahī kehtā ho. I used to... Tell this to all my disciples: what a shame that you lost your culture. Their culture was very nice, divine, spiritual, full of ethics, morals, and spirituality. Mahāprabhujīp karatā, Mahāprabhujīp karatā, Mahāprabhujīp. The culture moves with them. But I used to tell them, "What you are doing now, that’s not your culture. It is not correct." So many things. The waiting list was so big that it took us all the way to Brazil, which is in the middle of America, which goes to hell. It all started in America. People used to go to cinemas, but nowadays they have turned it into a big bazaar. He Kevalam He Kevalam... He Kevalam, if you meet him in the cinema, will he give you so much money? So, ten minutes before, in the same cinema, he gives a picture and thinks that it is his body. The same artist says to his friends, "Let’s have popcorn and cola." That’s it, nothing else. Let’s have popcorn and cola. Finished. Nothing. After that, nothing. When we take rest after 10 minutes, there is an interval in which the ladies are standing outside. The ladies are four-wheeled. Inside the ladies, there is popcorn, Coca-Cola, etc. Everyone gets up and drinks the popcorn. In English, it is called blackmailing. Apparatus says, "Who is coming into your mind?" Mahāprabhujī Karatā Mahāprabhujī Karatā He Kevalam Mahāprabhujī Karatā He Kevalam. The water of the lake was very clean. Now everything is dirty. Earlier, we used to say that the water of the lake was as clean as the tears of a peacock. Go and drink the water of the lake, of the river, of the river... of the river. Now, your rivers and rivers are dirty. Who will do it? A pure soul. No one else. Because now everything has become so polluted. There are now two immortals in this world. Where are they? There are two immortals. One is the soul, and the other is the plastic. Plastic is immortal. They say if you burn it, it will remain in the air. There is no one who can destroy plastic. No one has made plastic. The soul is immortal, that is good. But plastic is immortal. We are suffering; all diseases are happening. Blackmailing. So that is blackmailing. If you are drinking water, then jump into a gate. Mehendak Mehta Tha, Jump Laga Kar Ki Paani Me Gir Gaya Aur Apne Hataon Me Paani Leki Pi Laha Tha, Phir Usko Vem Ho Gaya Mehendak Ko Mene Pi Liya Woh Paani Piya, Talaap Ka Paani Accha Nahi Raha, Dug Dug... Kare peth ke azhar are, mehendak mere peth ke andar kudh raha hai. Mehendak kudh raha hai, gaya daag saab rehkan hai, ke daag saab. Mehendak maara peth me budh gaya, paani pi liya, di toh moto hai toh. The doctor said, "No, no, there is nothing wrong with him." He said he is just a doctor. What kind of knowledge does a doctor have? He went to another doctor. The other doctor saw that he should not have had a stomach ache. It would have been over by now. There is so much acid in the stomach. He said, "What kind of knowledge do you have?" If you have a stomach ache, you stay alive. If you are in the water, then you are not in the water. The doctor also started giving knowledge. He went to a Vedājī. Churṇā Churṇā... Bheem, Mehendek Maa Hai Aad, Bheem, Mehendek Aad Hai, Toh Dukhi Ho Gaya, Bimaar, Maansik Bimari, Fixed Ideas, Koi Keh Toh Keh, Thu Dapol Hai, Manathah Hai, Kudhe Hai, Maaro Sareer Dhanangai Dhaay, Koi Kahe Keh Maa. Then once, a yogī like Puṣpā jī came and told us about yoga. He told us to get rid of the sadness of many people. Someone from the village of Suni came and told us that he would cure the disease. When he came to Pushpā jī, he said, "I have had a stomach ache for two years, and I have lost weight." When Pushpājī saw him, he said, "You have a stomach ache." See, he is a scholar. See, he has come to the doctor to study far away, oh, oh... Oh, Puṣpā Jī said, "Don’t worry, tomorrow at 6 o’clock come empty stomach and say, ’Should I drink water?’" She is Marjainī Mātā, my mother is Jairvī Jī. No, drink a glass of water. Pushpa Jī, Gaī Talāb ke kināre aur kahī aisā ek meṇḍhak dekhā, usko pakṛā pakar ke lā kar ke ek loṭā meṃ mel diyo. Ab usko pānī pilāyā, khūp, kai kariyo? Pānī Pīyo, Pīyo Pānī. Do Gilās, Tīn Gilās, Cār Gilās, Pāñc Gilās, Chah Gilās. Kunjal Kṛiyā Karane Ārī Mundā Vāṅglī Gharpe De Balte Melī Mahe Le Ame Kar Kuñjo Ulte Kare. Āāā De Pānī Nikle One De Ākhe Māvā Dugo Āṅsu Ne Āāā Āke. Pushpājī ke bas, bas, ghaṛo ghaṛo, o dekho nikal gayo, bhai. Hā, oish, hiṅg raṅgroī je thoḍak bhuro bhuro vegiyo, bhau, ame dhe moṭho vegiyo ke? Hā, are are... ame dhe kuḍhe ghoye māhe ke nahī? Ame kai karo, Pushpā Jī ko bole, ab kyā karo? Kī kahā ke kare kyāo, to terā bache ke barābar hai. Iske naik naik rakhnā, garpe pānī kā ko banā denā, choṭā kund. To be, the disease emerges in this way. In the same way, the blackmailing, the fixed idea, does not come out of the mind. Whatever happened in the past, it does not have a place in hell. And what is heaven for a religious soul? The door of Brahmaloka is also open. So, when I woke up in the morning, your Tabar said, "Is this of Papa or of Pita Jī? Tell me." I am doing research, the work of research.
