A Diwali Message from the Holy Land

Human life is a rare gift for devotion and service to the divine, yet it is squandered in materialism and ego. The human body is a unique vehicle for spiritual practice to achieve liberation from bondage. Instead of pursuing wealth and sensory pleasure, one must use this life for compassion, charity, and sincere spiritual discipline under a true Guru. Only spiritual wealth endures beyond this temporary existence.

"Human life is given for the devotion of the Prabhu. Human life is given for service."

"The mantra given by Gurudev is the royal path, the sovereign way for you, encompassing all kinds of siddhis."

Filming location: Jadan, Rajasthan, India

Salutation to Purīśā Mahādeva, the supreme sovereign of dharma. Salutation to Sat Guru Svāmī Mādhvānandajī, Gurudev of true eternal dharma. Salutation to the Cosmic Light, Lord of our hearts, Omniscient and Omnipresent, in His Divine Presence. A very good evening. Dear brothers and sisters around the world, this special blessing is coming to you today at last from the Holy Land, India, Bhārata, from Om Śrī Viśvadeep Gurukul, Swāmījī Maheśvarānanda Āśrama, Education and Research Center, in Jādan, Pālī, Rājasthān. I just arrived here a few hours ago and there are many Indian Bhaktas, local people. So, a few words I will speak first in Hindi, then I will come to you. I am very happy to see you, at least through the webcast. I extend my heartfelt wishes to all of you. A hundredfold salutations to the divine form of Param Pitā Paramātmā. At the revered lotus feet of Gurudev, I offer countless prostrations with folded hands. To all the devotees of dharma, beloved friends, mothers, and sisters, wherever you are in the world, may this divine message reach you as a spiritual dharma offering. From the land of sages and seers, and the birthplace of great avatāras, this auspicious blessing is coming to you from Om Śrī Viśvadeep Gurukul, Swāmī Maheśvarānandāśrama, Education and Research Institute. At the very least, through this webcast, you are with us, Paramāpitā Paramātmā. From this, your longevity and disease-free body are the supreme prāṇa for spiritual practice and self-realization. Human life is given to serve the Lord through devotion. This Om Viśvadeep Gurukul Āśrama is like that one great banyan tree whose branches, twigs, and leaves—the Sākhā of the tree—are spread throughout this entire cosmos, within this globe. It is a shelter, a center of the message of peace, brotherhood, and spirituality. It is called the cradle of Indian culture, the nurturing ground of culture, and the repository of all the pure cultures of the world. Here, the branches and refined cultures find their place. Lost in this material world, humans are immersed in their status and ego, forgetting why Paramāpitā Paramātmā, out of supreme grace, gave us human life. Within the infinite cosmos, amidst the waves of effort and moving through darkness, it reached such a destination that this jīvātman received a human body. If Paramātmā has given it, then what does Paramātmā think? Bhagavān thinks that among the 8.4 million jīvas, I will create such a body through which this jīvātman can free itself from bondage. But the human being is getting bound in bondage day by day. Whether you tie yourself to a stake or remain bound to that stake, it will become difficult to attain liberation from it. Human life is given for the devotion of the Prabhu. Human life is given for service. You will not find such a diamond anywhere, nor can you buy this diamond in the market no matter how much money you have. You cannot buy a new body, nor can you lend it to anyone. Suppose your mother, father, brother, friend, wife, or husband... is your child very ill and the doctor says that this body is not going to survive? Is it possible that you are offering this body to that jīvātman and that jīvātman remains alive within it? It is not impossible. Neither the body is changed nor does anything else accompany it. Day by day, bondage increases. To become free from bondage, Bhagavān has... this body has been given the form of sādhana; it is through this body that sādhana takes place. Humans think, "This is my family." Humans think, "I should earn as much money as possible, so that I may be happy." This is indeed the greatest mistake of humans. What is the use of accumulating sons and grandsons, or wealth? Oh, in the mother’s womb itself... Paramātmā will never forget you, and whatever is written in your destiny, whatever is our fate, we will receive only according to that fate. When you travel by car or bus, you often see written on many vehicles and trucks something like this: first, how much this human lies, how many times he... The one who indulges in sensual pleasures, deceives others repeatedly, tries to make others fools, and forgets Bhagavān, will face terrible consequences. The result is that you become like the very animal, so selfish that you have no compassion for other beings, not even for fellow humans. No one superior will come in the future; only burden will come, solely for the taste of the tongue. And just like nowadays everyone eats meat and drinks alcohol, if we lived in such a society, we too would do the same. Humans are such fools, and who has given you such ignorant notions that you should fight among yourselves? Is this not the duty of a human being—to sing the praises of Bhagavān, to serve the poor and the suffering, to have compassion for all living beings, to seek refuge in a true Satguru, to receive mantra dīkṣā from the Satguru, and to practice diligently? The mantra given by Gurudev is the royal path, the sovereign way for you, encompassing all kinds of siddhis. And the path shown by your guru is never... One should not abandon the mantra; the root is the guru’s word. For a disciple, the mantra is exactly what Gurudev has said, and one must follow it. The truly wise understand this. Eating, drinking, raising children, and living—animals also know these things. But you are different from animals; you are human. Therefore, a wise person, a great soul, whose parents have... If such spiritual teachings were given, they would only lead to contemplation of Bhagavān; cheating does no good to us. But people become happy thinking they have cheated someone—bought a piece of land for fifty rupees and sold it for fifty thousand. See, if you want to cheat, many have become cheaters. If that same land is sold to you for fifty rupees or fifty thousand... Essentially, humans are engrossed in money, whether in pleasure or pain. Wherever you say, "Let me gather money in any way," it will not accompany you. And if you have it, and you do have it, and you are earning it, money is not bad. Give it, donate it, invest it. Build a good pond for yourself; clean the old pond that exists. Make it two, make it deep. Today, the slogan of the United Nations is that we need sustainable development. That which is sustainable is the knowledge of our Ṛṣi-Munis. Ponds were dug by the ancestors; the water’s essence is going into terrible darkness. I have just come from America, where journalists asked me a question. Swāmījī, nowadays so many banks are failing, what is your view on this? There is no money, poor people are suffering, and even those with money are suffering more. I said, our Mahāpuruṣas have said that if money is lost, nothing is truly lost, but if your health deteriorates even a little... And that money is also in the pockets of the poor, but the one who challenges himself in such a way that he is the richest person in the world—if his money decreases, he is sorrowful. And he goes to the journalists and talks about collapsing all the banks. Money, somewhere, is spiritual wealth—the only true wealth that accompanies you lifetime after lifetime. Only spiritual wealth endures; material wealth will not accompany you. So, on this sacred occasion of Dīpāvalī, our humble request, prayer, and suggestion to all dear ones is this: those who are very wealthy, we know you have great riches, and if you give your child even a thousand rupees, what does the world say about that? One by one, a thousand rupees here and there, and that one will break into ten in the middle of the evening because you are the ones with money, right? You have cheated, taken bribes, and the money from bribes will just fly away like that. But how much more painful it will be if in one evening your child burns twenty thousand rupees—this in thirty-eight moves, twenty thousand from your home... If children do not have milk, then buy a good cow for them; how much merit that will bring! Or feed the cows in the gaushala. It was the tradition of our village that on the day after Dīpāvalī, everyone would come together where all the cows were gathered, to take them to the forest, for the sake of our earth, humanity, and other living beings. There is no greater threat than from terrorists; the environment is being polluted even more, and who is causing this pollution? Humans. So resolve that this Dīpāvalī, I will feed the cows with fodder, I will give grains to the sparrows, or if a poor person comes, I will give them money. This is your... It may seem like a loss, or it may not seem like a loss; explain to your children that son, this is just a small expense of five or seven rupees. If they accept that, then do as you wish. This is only my suggestion and a humble prayer for the protection of this earth. Beyond that, you are wise and knowledgeable; your hearts are discerning. God also speaks through me. In your decisions, it is likely that the one who has attained true wisdom always remains happy. The one whom the Lord gives sorrow, their intellect is already lost; what good will accompany them? The husband of desires, the husband of actions, had a heart attack at night, and in the morning, his mouth was torn and his face was all bruised. And with hands spread out like this, leaving everything behind, the fly then went into the forest. Life in this world is only for two days, so the meaning of Dīpāvalī and Śrāmyā is that everyone should live with love and help one another. Tamaso mā jyotir gamaya, O Paramāpitā Paramātmā, lead us from darkness to light, to turn away from darkness and lead towards the light. And tomorrow at the same time I will again share with you some names of Paramātmā and some such thoughts of satsaṅg which are the prasāda given by Gurudev. With this much said, I pause my speech. And now those international devotees who are... People use every third or fourth word in English without even knowing what they are saying, but they still use those words. The driver’s vehicle stopped, I asked what happened, and he said the weather broke. I asked why the weather should break; may no cloud trouble you, your family, or your friends—everyone receives my blessings and good wishes. Best wishes on the auspicious occasion of Dīpāvalī and congratulations on the arrival of the new year. Nārāyaṇa Nārāyaṇa Śrīmān Nārāyaṇa Nārāyaṇa Nārāyaṇa Śrīmān Nārāyaṇa Nārāyaṇa Nārāyaṇa Dīpa Nārāyaṇa Nārāyaṇa Nārāyaṇa Dīpa Nārāyaṇa Nārāyaṇa Nārāyaṇa Śrī Dīpa Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān once again. My dear brothers and sisters, welcome to the Viśvadeep Guru Kula Jādan and those who are with us for the webcast. I welcome them and... Now it is your birthday, I wish you all a happy birthday. Divine light, radiant light, divine light, divine light... And you are telling your nature, and you are telling your nature that it should not be so—why is there a Creator, why did He create, why did He create this person, why did He create that person... The speaking talents, the consciousness, different levels of the consciousness, emotion, happiness, contentment, love or hate, anger, jealousy, revenge, all these negative qualities. Both Daivīk and Āsurī Śaktis are active in every creature but more so in humans. They are not becoming complete about this. They are not becoming complete about this... Because the negative energy, negative power is so strong that man has come out of control. Emotion, you are in motion. Such high waves, such hurricanes that the individual is no longer capable of controlling. But there is a way. That is spiritual practice. That is yoga. Develop this spirituality, and all the high waves will settle within thyself. All problems begin with desires and expectations. Expectation may lead you to disappointment. If those expectations arise without the use of buddhi, without employing the intellect. Before acting, you should know what you are doing. God Kṛṣṇa said in Bhagavad Gītā, "Arjuna, Arjuna, Arjuna..." We are very aware of that and that God has given humans the ability to decide, to reflect, and then to act. If we act out of ignorance, out of desires, without thoughtful consideration, then we are in trouble. Tamaso mā jyotir gamaya — this part is for the world. Tamaso mā jyotir gamaya — this part is for the world... You achieve the light, physical light and spiritual light. Be lighted and then be enlightened. We can create the physical light, but to create the spiritual light, to be enlightened, we have a long way to walk until our destination, ātmajñāna. Therefore, merciful God, our divine power, our divine creator, our divine mother nature was very merciful and gave this individual soul the opportunity to come out of the cycle of rebirth and death. Tamśromā tamśromā... Tam was fully known to you about them. You were fully aware of them. You were fully aware of them. You were fully aware about them completely... They have spiritual education and devotion, and it is good that they attend spiritual sessions for Gurudev. If your place is your place... All millions are different souls, not only humans but also different gods. Can God do? God can bless animals, and animals can attain liberation. A creator can do that. That is true ability, true siddhi, true power. After that, go... You all became very happy. He became very happy. He became very happy... He became very ha-... Will find the way, this light will be an indication for... The dim light will show the path; it will be easier for them to walk through the darkness. Decorating the trees and hanging some food and sweets on the trees increases the drama... You could drink water from the well. There were no mineral water bottles, you see, because there was no pollution. Everything was healthy, organic, and people were happy. But still, they kept water pots so that people would have something to drink and food. They beautifully decorated the tree and the light. For this winter, for this winter... Ī rāma rāma... rā for you all, for you all... for you all... Brothers and Sisters, think over what God was thinking while constructing this beautiful body. This bungalow is wonderfully made, Mahārāj, in which Nārāyaṇa speaks, but who can open it without the Guru? This bungalow is wonderfully made, Mahārāj, in which Nārāyaṇa speaks. This bungalow, the body, is compared to a bungalow. What a beautiful bungalow or building God has created, in which Nārāyaṇa Bholā, God Himself, is speaking through this body. Though He is speaking through you, you do not know who is present within. Many things happening in the body, we do not know. In which Nārāyaṇa speaks, but without the guru, who can reveal the difference? Without Gurudev, no one can tell. Today, the secret is this: the body is a corpse, the body is nothing. The body is a corpse, the body is nothing. You are nothing. You are... nothing... Now you all very much... I warmly welcome all of you who have come to Jādan Āśrama to celebrate this divine Dīpāvalī with us. We will have lectures or satsaṅg every day at the same time and in the same place as Gurudev. I will be with you through the webcast, and today we have had a long journey. It is not great. Who is great for greatness? So I like that we do this not for greatness, not to become great... for that, suffering may arise. Om śānti, śānti... Victory to Śrīpīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān.
