A Gathering of Hearts and Wisdom

A satsang featuring an introduction to Yoga in Daily Life and a discourse on spiritual yoga from the Bhagavad Gītā.

"Yoga in Daily Life is a complete system I designed 46 years ago with one motto: yoga and a life, harmony of the body, mind, and Soul."

"Krishna says, all the time develop your relationship, not directly, but through me. Consider your husband as the gift of God. Consider your wife as the gift of God."

Swami Maheshvarananda (Maheshvaranandaji) welcomes His Holiness Sugandha Anandaji Maharaj to the ashram. Maheshvaranandaji outlines the principles and global reach of his "Yoga in Daily Life" system. The lecturer gives a talk, explaining yoga as a God-centered relationship that brings permanence to all connections, using an analogy of a telephone exchange. He emphasizes the need for a Guru and praises Maheshvaranandaji as one.

Good evening, and blessings of the Divine Self, my dear brothers and sisters in this ashram. We are very happy, pleased, and blessed to have a visit from a very rare saint from South India, His Holiness Sugandha Ānandajī Mahārāj. For me, "Sugandha" means a beautiful aroma, a fragrance, and that is a very, very good sign. Yesterday I had the opportunity to meet Swāmījī through our Rājendra. Four months ago, Swāmījī was in Vienna, Austria, in our āśram. He stayed there for one week and blessed the ashram. Such a great saint. It doesn't matter from which paramparā, which spiritual lineage one is. The masters are masters. So we are like one in one place. He came here and is now here to bless us. So, Your Holiness Swāmījī, these are some spiritual experiences and practitioners of Yoga in Daily Life. Yoga in Daily Life is a complete system I designed 46 years ago with one motto: yoga and a life, harmony of the body, mind, and Soul—physical, mental, and spiritual development for God-realization. It has nine steps, step by step. First, the body: āsanas, prāṇāyāma, mudrās, bandhas, kriyās, and learn further. Yoga in Daily Life is acknowledged as a scientific system. It is practiced and taught in nursery schools and rehabilitation centers for blind people, disabled people, and war victims. Also, in certain prisons, we have yoga. In Australia, we have Yoga in Daily Life in Alice Springs, where there are many Australian Aborigines, and our yoga is helping them very, very much. Yoga in Daily Life is not only physical training, but also a vegetarian diet, leading a healthy way of life, ahiṃsā paramodharma. Ahimsa is the highest principle, and we have many humanitarian projects which you have seen in Vienna. We are supporting poor children, and Yoga in Daily Life is practiced and researched by many doctors. Especially, there is one exercise which helps them to succeed in their Kriyā and awakening of the chakras, energies, and kuṇḍalinī, and that has three different levels. It's called Khāṭū Praṇām. There is Sūrya Namaskār, but Sūrya Namaskār is half. There is a big difference between Sūrya Namaskār and Khāṭu Praṇām because there are the spiritual blessings of great masters, and especially, systematically, it activates, regulates, awakens, and directs that positive energy in different parts of the body and towards the Sahasrāra Cakra, the Khāṭū Praṇām, which is practiced in the world everywhere. So, Yoga in Daily Life is a science of body, mind, and consciousness—harmony of body, mind, and soul; achievement of physical, mental, social, and spiritual health for God-realization. This is just a glimpse. They practice all very disciplined. I sometimes sigh; they are more disciplined than I am. That's why they are achieving so much. And they are thirsty for wisdom and your words, the nectar of immortality. So please, welcome our Swāmījī with the third eastern sword. Where is that? Upavāsa. Om Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ. Guru Brahma Guru... Put the envelope there and the mic. So, the floor is yours. I am very glad to meet our great Swāmījī Māheśvarānandajī on the soil of Australia. I am from South India. Maheśvarānandajī is from North India. South India and North India are together in Australia. I have heard that lakhs of years ago, Australia and India were one. That is why India has become one in Australia today, Trivedī Saṅgam. In India, especially South India, it is considered a place of Ācāryas: Jagat Guru Śaṅkarācārya, Jagat Guru Śrī Rāmānujācārya, Jagat Guru Śrī Madhvācārya, Śrī Lābha Ācārya—all are from South India. And North India is considered as the place of devas, deva bhūmi, all avatars of God in North India: Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, Lord Śrī Rāma, all avatars in North India. It is said, North India and South India, if they are together, then ācāryas and devas are together. That is why when acharyas and devas are together, it is mokṣa. So I am very glad: from Ācārya South India and from Devapurījī, Maheśvarānandajī, we are together in Australia, Sāhil. So it is a good sign. We have one heart. We are celebrating Hanumān Jayantī, the birthday of Hanumān. We consider Hanuman as Pañcamukhī. He has five faces. Our gods, they have five faces, four faces, like that, many faces, but the heart is only one. Like that, we have two faces but one heart. So I am very glad to recognize the one heart with Maheśvara Nandajī, who is being Lord of Seva, the field of yoga. So, yoga is the greatest value of life. Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa has given the Yoga Śāstra. The Bhagavad Gītā is considered as Yoga Śāstra. That is why, every time at the end of the Adhyāya, we say Śrīmad Bhagavad Gītā's Upaniṣads, Yoga Śāstra. Krishna is considered as Yogeśvara. That is why, in the end of the Gītā, we say: "Yatra Yogeśvaraḥ Kṛṣṇo, Yatra Pārtho Dhanurdharaḥ, Tatra Śrīr Vijayo Bhūtir, Dhruvā Nītir Matir Mama." So yoga is based on the Bhagavad Gītā. Śrī Kṛṣṇa is considered as Yogeśvara. In the guidelines of the Bhagavad Gītā, if we practice yoga, it can lead us to salvation. Not only in this birth, but we can be rid of the boundary of saṃsāra. That is why yoga is the most important thing in our life. Krishna in the Gītā says: "Yogaḥ karmasu kauśalam, samatvaṁ yoga ucyate." So yoga is in all our actions we can maintain. That is why yoga has a very big span of techniques, and you are all very much interested in those techniques, and our Maheśvara Nandajī, he is an expert in yoga. You are learning many techniques of yoga by which you can maintain your health and peace of mind, and ultimately you can reach the salvation of mokṣa. So that we consider it is the representation of Yogeśvara, Lord Kṛṣṇa. We are all Krishna's followers of yoga. So, yoga, the inner meaning of the word, is relationship, yujyate yogī, the relationship. Not only does yoga mean asana and pranayama, but also relationship with God and relationship with human beings; it is considered as yoga. That is why we should have a relationship with God. Then only we will be blessed by God. Our life should be God-centered. Then only we will be happy all the time. We stayed with a family in New York, a very rich family. They had everything. They had their own flight, a big palace, good children, a good wife. Everything was perfect. Still, they were very unhappy. They were very much upset. They asked me, "Though we are having everything, but no peace of mind." The husband asked this question, "Can you solve our problem?" I asked him, "What is your problem?" He says, "We are a very close family. I like my wife very much. I like my children, but..." I came to know one day I am going to leave this wife, one day I am going to leave these children. How can I get the same wife in my next birth? That is my all the time, it is bothering me. So, can you give any solution for that? Though we are having everything, but when this thing comes to our mind, we have no peace of mind. Some people say, "I want to change my wife or husband," right? But those couples were telling, "I want to get the same wife in my next birth." Is there any technique? I said, "Yes, it is possible. How? How could you get this wife in this birth? Who arranged it? Consult the same person, and he can rearrange your unification, maybe in the next birth. Who has made all these things? If you develop the relationship with him." Then, whatever you want, either you want this wife or another wife, whatever, he will rearrange. The only thing you should have is the yoga, the relationship with God. Then, whatever you want, you can get. That is why the Gītā says all the time: coin your life God-centered. Develop the relationship with God and strengthen the relationship with God. Then, wherever you are, you will be connected all the time, instead of cultivating and strengthening personal relationships. It should be through God. Then it will be permanent. It is like a telephone connection. We want to talk to the neighbor next door, we call. How does the connection work? It will not go directly to the next door. It goes to the satellite, then comes to the next door. If you connect directly to the door, if you go outside, you can't contact. But if it is through the satellite or exchange, then wherever you go, you can have the relationship. So the same thing with human beings: we are all connected—father, mother, brother, husband, wife. All these things, we have the direct relationship. Instead of that, if you develop the relationship through the satellite, that means God, then if you correct it, then wherever you go, next birth, after 10th birth, you will be all the time connected. That is yoga. Krishna says, all the time develop your relationship, not directly, but through me. Consider your husband as the gift of God. Consider your wife as the gift of God. Consider your children as the gift of God. Consider your house as the abode of God. Consider your car as the gift of God. So if you consider everything as the gift of God, and if you strengthen the relationship with God, then you can get whatever you want. That is the technique of the Bhagavad Gītā, which is also considered as spiritual yoga. Considering everything as the prasāda and as the blessings of God, all our actions should be converted into worship of God. So this is the yoga given by Yogeśvara, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, through the Bhagavad Gītā. This is the ultimate yoga. These are all the techniques one should learn, practice, and master. Then our life will be considered most successful. For that we need a Guru. Without a Guru, you will not succeed. So we should select a Guru through whom we can achieve the goal. So we are all very glad you got the best guru, Maheśvara Nandājī, who is very much into this science, yoga science, and you are all lucky to have him as your guru. I am also very much proud of Maheśvara Nandājī, as well as all disciples here. I am very glad to come here from the place of Yogeśvara, Lord Kṛṣṇa, Uḍupi. Udupi is famous for the Krishna temple in South India. 800 years back, it was installed by Jagadguru Māturācārya. So we are all worshippers of Lord Kṛṣṇa, who is Yogeśvara, and I am very glad to participate in this yoga group and with this yoga guru as a devotee of Lord Kṛṣṇa, Yogeśvara. Once again, I pray Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa to bless all the yogīs here. Kṛṣṇa says, a yogī is the highest post in life. That's why yogī Babarjuna. Yogī is the highest post of life. So, you are all yogīs, and you are under the guidance of Yoga Guru Maheśvara Ānandajī, and I hope all of you are blessed by Lord Yogeśvara, and you should be successful in your life. I am very glad to come here on the occasion of Hanumān Jayantī, and we consider Hanuman is the Loka Guru; he is the Viśva Guru. So we are very glad to meet. He is the guru of NRI people who crossed the ocean first from India to Śrī Laṅkā, so that we are all NRI people. We met on the day of NRI guru Hanumān Jayantī, so I am very glad. We are getting the blessings of Hanumānjī also, and we are getting the blessings of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa. Once again, I appreciate the service in the field of yoga Maheśvara Nandājī is rendering, and I am very glad to participate in this great achievement. I am also inviting Maheśvara Nandājī to Udupi, and he didn't visit Udupi. Also, along with you, you should come to Udupi, and you should get the darśan of Lord Kṛṣṇa. Once again, I express my great happiness to come here. After such a beautiful Amṛt Vākya, the words of the nectar of wisdom, there is nothing remaining to say. If I try to say something, it's like I try to throw a matchstick to the sun. But still, we are very thankful, and we thank you very much, Your Holiness, that you came to our āśram and blessed the āśram. And yes, we know the Bhagavad Gītā is the best and is the 18 steps of yoga, beginning with the name yoga and completing with yoga. These are the different eighteen kinds of yoga which you can follow. So, Bhagavad Gītā is Kāmadhenu. It always gives milk, fresh and new, and it gives you everything, whatever you wish. Yogaḥ Karmasu Kauśalam. So our yoga practices will be successful through Seva, service, Nishkām Karma. So, Swāmījī, bhaṭ bhaṭ. Thank you, and you see, he is a very strict follower of the principles. He doesn't eat somewhere, he doesn't drink something. I don't see him eating, so, but still, what can we offer you? Love. So we can sit in another room for a while. So, thank you, and you will have your dinner. Wish you good appetite. Bless you. Adiós.
