You Should Prepare Well For Practicing Kriya

Kriya is the fundamental process of all action and existence. The universe expands and contracts; this is kriya. Planets orbit, seasons change, and vegetation grows; these are kriyas. Within the body, digestion, circulation, and breathing are natural kriyas. Thought itself is a kriya. From this totality, yogis identified specific purificatory practices, the Shat Kriyas of Hatha Yoga, to support the system. For human consciousness, there are sixteen essential samskaras, or life rituals, from birth to funeral rites, which purify past karmas and remove barriers to realization. The human soul is divine but becomes covered in karmic layers from many lives, a fine film obstructing progress. Yogic kriyas, involving mudra and pranayama, are designed to strip away these layers, like a snake shedding its skin. This path is subtle and must be followed under guidance to avoid misuse, for it is like walking on a sharp knife. The practice grants psychic strength, increases willpower, and purifies karma, preparing one to return the soul cleanly to the divine.

"Jihvā me madhumattamā—be on your tongue the sweetness of the honey."

"Human life is precious. Don’t lose it."

Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Kī, Śrī Devpurīṣa Mahādeva Kī, Dharma Samrāṭ Guru Svāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavān Kī, Satya Sanātana Dharma Kī, Oṁ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ... He. Good evening to everyone. Today is already the third day of your Kriyā Anuṣṭhāna. We have three programs in this course. So let’s speak today about something regarding Kriya. Many of you know, and many may not know. It is a Sanskrit word, kriyā. Kriya means something is happening or something is being done. The Earth is working. The Earth has a certain period of time when we should put the seed in, and it will grow. Out of season, if we plant it, it will not grow. If it grows, it will not give fruit. The vegetation, the plants are growing, losing leaves and getting leaves. So, this all is a kriyā. Around our sun, the other planets are moving. That is Kriyā. The universe itself is also expanding and contracting; it’s breathing. It’s a kriyā. Rain, no rain, it’s also Kriyā. Now we come to our body, meaning the body of all other creatures. They have natural kriyā, the digestive system, that we have in Sanskrit the word called pachan kriyā. Pachan means digestion, and kriya is function, process. So, blood circulation, that’s also kriyā. Breathing in and out is also kriyā. To be born, grow, and die is also kriyā. Whatever we do is a kriyā, and what we think is a kriyā. So, what more can I explain to you about this one word, Kriyā? Now, one kriyā which is functioning naturally, other kriyās don’t function. There, we need some kind of support. Disturbances in apāna power, apāna prāṇa. Then we need support. Certain things happen. Now, when you cook, cooking is a kriyā. When you are sleeping, that is a kriyā. When you dream, it is a Kriyā. What more should I tell you about one word, Kriyā? So, out of this Kriya, the yogīs have taken something which is very helpful and supportive. That is called the extra ten kriyās. So one part of yoga is called Ṣaṭ Kriyā. Ṣaṭ Kriya belongs to Hatha Yoga. And from the hatha yoga, they took this, called pañcakarma in Āyurveda. This is a purification. Netī, Dhautī, Naulī, Trāṭak, Kapālabhāti are the same. So, tomorrow you will have a very beautiful talk from our Sādhvī Umāpurī about Haṭha Yoga Kriyās. Now, then there are sixteen Saṃskāras. There are sixteen rituals in life. And for a human consciousness, according to the Upaniṣad, sixteen kriyās or saṃskāras are very important. This is purifying our past karmas. Opening the barriers to proceed further to achieve and realize the complete human consciousness, and for that, these saṃskāras are there. So it is beginning from birth onwards. The first saṃskāra is that the father, when... A child is born, it doesn’t matter if it’s a girl or a boy. Because sometimes people ask me, "Can I have girls also?" Why not? There is no problem. The girls or the boys, they both are human. Both have a soul, and both have ātmā. Never make duality. Never make dualities. So, when the child is born, the father writes with a silver or golden spoon, or a little needle, but not so sharp. Write Om on the tongue. And in the Upaniṣad it is said, "Jihvā me madhumattamā"—be on your tongue the sweetness of the honey. Madhu, your words should be sweet for everyone. Your words should create confidence. Your words should inspire, your words should lead you to the divine world, and your words should be words of sympathy, a protection, kind words. So, similarly, after that, when the child is born, then on a particular constellation, according to astrology and the day, you should bring the child out of the room. Then, the hair cuttings, the first time. So, then for the education, school, etc., there are sixteen saṃskāras, and the last one, the sixteenth one, is called Antyeṣṭi Kriyā, that is the funeral, where there is also a ritual, mantras, pūjās, prayers. So the human soul is special. It is a dignity; it is divine. So what we do for the human is that this human should come to the realization. The first bath and initiation mantras are in every religion, you know. So we go to the Gaṅgā, you have abhiṣeka in the Gaṅgā. And you are more now in the world of Christianity, and you see, you know that Jesus was also initiated. So, we must have this. Unfortunately, in recent centuries, people have created dualism and conflict among cultures and religions. And very interesting is exactly what you do, and the other is doing the same thing, but you are against that. You don’t know what you are doing. There was one man, and he was completely drunk. And he was eating the cow dung. And some other one also came and tried to test the cow dung. And that man said, "Are you crazy, stupid? Don’t eat cow dung." But he is eating himself, but he said he is also eating. He said, "No, no, this is not cow dung. What you eat is cow dung." So, how did people manipulate others to divide their societies? So, without saṃskāras, the human soul again is lost. So, this should have. This should have. So this is also Kriya. Even after the body dies, what we call... And if you are buried under the earth, still there is a Kriyā in the body. Therefore, they advise that it should be burned, cremated. Then he is completely purified. There is no disease or anything else. As long as the body is still existing, it doesn’t matter in which form or in which condition. The soul still has hope that I will go in my body. Then the soul is still traveling round and round. There are certain days when the soul knows it is now cut off from this relation, from this world. Like when you are born, then you are separated from the navel, from the body of the mother, it is cut. So, similarly, because consciously or unconsciously, we do many things, good or bad. And for that we are purified by certain ceremonies, rituals, you call it rituals, you call it ceremonies, or blessings. So this is that time when the Upaniṣads were written; there were no religions. No man-made religions. It was in Sanātana Dharma, the nature of the eternal religion. Since man-made religion started, we have had problems. So these saṃskāras, the kriyās, then the yogic kriyās again become, which we call Ṣaṭ Karma. After that, some practices to awaken the hidden powers, the dormant energy in the body. And it is said that each round of the Kriyā, It’s like crossing one birth if we do exactly. So in the Kriyās are involved mudrās, bandhas, prāṇāyāma, concentration, and meditation. At the same time, the blessings and the bhakti, the devotion. This kriyā is removing all the karmic layers, all the karmic dirt. Many you know, many you don’t know; many have seen, many have only heard. At a certain time, a snake gets a skin over its whole body. Even over the eyes, and that snake cannot see properly. It is like a fog, and that snake doesn’t feel comfort. But then the time comes that the skin tries to loosen from the body, but it doesn’t go out. So a snake knows. A snake goes on some thorny bush or some tree which has bark and then tries to go through that. A snake, the skin comes out, and the snake feels released. Can see clearly, can open mouth properly, can crawl properly. Similarly, everyone has a karmic layer over their inner consciousness or other five bodies, four bodies. This Jīva, this Jīvātmā, has this layer over it, karmic layers. And this karmic layer is from many, many lives. We don’t know what we have done. It doesn’t matter, good or bad. Everything has an effect on it. So now this soul has to be purified from those energies. Whom you meet, whom you touch, with whom you speak, with whom you live, that also creates layers of energy on you, physically, emotionally, or as subtle energy. And it is a very fine film over our soul, and that is an obstacle for our process going further. But these kriyās, those yogic kriyās, were kept mostly for trustworthy disciples. It was not allowed to rewrite because they received news that humans could misuse it. And when you misuse it, you will harm both yourself and others. Therefore, this kriyā has to be under the guidance, bhakti, and devotion, and what is called the following: the Guruvākya, and that mantra. This path is very, very fine. It’s like you have to walk on a very sharp knife. You step on it, and it’s in two parts. Now we have to walk on it. That’s why Mahāprabhujī said, So, your practicing of this kriyānusthāna, what you are doing, actually, it has a complete one round of 24 hours. And it has so many little, little, little programs and kriyās. But due to our comfort, we are spoiled, so people were not able to do it. In one thing I failed. I thought I was successful. But I failed in something. In the last 44 years, I couldn’t succeed with my disciples, that they keep mauna and understand what fasting means. Others, for Indians, you say fasting, okay. That’s it. When you have the word called, "Today is a holiday," oh, okay. You don’t even ask what the holidays are. A holiday is free; we are free. Or you ask the Indian, "Mauna," perfect. And when the Indian bhaktas, spiritual people, are fasting, they will not eat anything which has salt in it. If you offer them nuts, salty nuts, no, I am fasting today. And no one explains them as much as I am explaining in every seminar. So, there is one bhajan: "Phūl tujhī chādanā thā, vo phūl meṁ dūndanā payā." O Lord, I want to offer you one flower, but I couldn’t find that flower. I traveled through forests and meadows, through banks of the rivers and beaches, this and continent to continent. I didn’t find that flower. I can’t say, Lord, that that flower is not there. But maybe it was my mistake, that I couldn’t find it; I was not successful. So, for me, it is always that I did not succeed in this one thing. To make it clear for you, though I had hours and hours of lectures, I did things you don’t understand, fasting and mauna. So that kriya which I want to give you, there are 72 kriyas, and even I couldn’t finish three kriyas to give you. But whatever you have, I took its quality, the quality. The others, I left. And this kriyā which you are doing, they give you strength to your psychic energy. You get lots of strength, psychic strength. Because that pollution is purified, your willpower increases, your devotion, your knowledge, and your concentration, if you properly prepare yourself. Last year, when you were doing Anusthāna, Kriyānusthāna, it was hard. And I told you that you have now one year to prepare. One year, you’re already here, and you didn’t prepare yourself. You were surprised. How? Again, Kīryārustan is here, so quickly, like the story with the Pāras stone, wherever you touch, that will become gold. So one poor man, very poor, was collecting a little wood from the forest and coming and selling it. So he found one master in the forest. And that master gave him one stone, and he said, "What is this, Master?" He said, "This is a stone, very precious. Rare people have this." He said, "What is this?" If you touch this stone to the iron, it turns into gold. And I give you for one week. You can make as much gold as you like; you will be the richest of the rich. Oh, thank you, Master. So he took the stone and went home. And he said to his wife, "This is a stone which can make gold." She was also very happy. The next day, he went to the hardware shop and asked, "What is the price of the iron?" He said, "20 euros per kilo. Do you think it will become cheaper?" He said, "Yes, the market is falling." Okay, then I will come to you in one or two days. He asked, "What is the price of the iron?" He said, "8 euros per kilo." 12 euros less. God is always merciful to the poor people. Do you think it will be cheaper? He said, "Yes, I think so." Nowadays, China doesn’t buy any more iron, so the market is falling down. Thanks to China, our economy is thriving. I will come in two days. So again, he came after two days. Three and two is five days. My friend, what is the iron price? Three euros. He said to his wife, "Look, God is so helpful to us. You think it will be cheaper?" He said, "Yes, yes, really, definitely. I will come in two days." So, he came in two days. Please, can you tell me the iron’s price? He said, "50 cents." Thank you, God. My Lord, You are the God of poor ones. You think it will be cheaper still? He said, definitely. Because that man knew he had something: emptiness in his brain. He went home, and in the morning, Gurujī came and said, "Please, eight days are gone." One week, I told you to give my stone back. It is finished. He said, "Yes." You didn’t make any gold? He said, "No, because it was too expensive." Master said, "Ah." Oh, Mahāprabhujī, it is in your kismat to be like this poor. Please give me the stone back. He said it was not my mistake. You could have touched this stone to only your little key, and gone and sold your key; you would get so much money that you could buy one ton of iron. You could have touched the railway line, and the whole railway line would have turned to gold. Oh, this I have forgotten. So this is a parāś. Kriyā is a parāś for you. Utilize properly. If you utilize greedily, and you think, "Now we don’t need Gurujī, we don’t need Swāmījī, we don’t need mantra; we have kriyās, we practice." And I know how many are doing this. But still I am praying to Mahāprabhujī that one day they will change. But the greedy have to suffer. So one man, he wanted to have gold. To be rich, he went to the forest and was doing tapasyā. Praying, praying, praying. God came. Shiva came. Shiva comes quickly. Shiva is one of the Gods who, no matter how many mistakes you have made, will come. He said, "What do you want, my son?" "Lord, give me one siddhi." What kind of siddhi do you want? I want to have gold. What do you mean? I want to show the people that I have siddhi. What do you mean? Whatever I touch becomes gold. Shiva said, "Are you sure?" Yes, God, please, whatever I touch, it becomes gold. Okay, bless you. It should be. Now he came home. After two years, three years, and his grandchild, so the grandfather is coming. So he ran, "Grandfather, grandfather," and he touched the grandfather. Grandfather touched his head, and the child is standing as a golden statue. He became gold. His wife came and said, "What have you done?" He said nothing. You did it. He touched her, and she also became a golden statue. He was thirsty. Swamiji, so he took the glass, it became gold. Now he put the water inside, he touches the water, it becomes gold. Hungry, he touches the chapati, it becomes gold. The vegetable becomes gold, because he said, "Whatever I touch," life became miserable. He ran back, "Lord Śiva, I hope you are still in this forest." Śiva, Śiva, Mahādeva, Śambho, Har Har Mahādeva, Śiva, and Śiva came. Yes, my son. What more do you wish? I am so sad. All has become gold. As I told you, my cow became gold. I want to milk it. Everything is gold. Please, Śiva, bless me, take this siddhi away. Okay. He took it away. He came home and touched his grandchild. Again, become grandfather, grandfather. His wife also, water became everything normal. Again, he breathed. So Guru Dev is Śiva. He can forgive. Otherwise, if we took something, we did not follow the principle. We did not obey the instructions called Guru Vākya. So then you go back. So, what we are doing in Kriyā is very safe and very divine. It gives you mental, psychic, and spiritual strength. And in cleaning the layers of the karmas, at the end of this life, you come very clean. Like Kabīr Dājī said, that this chādar Sukadev Muni have in bearing, this saint, that saint, Kabīr ne esī yoḍī, Kabīr also took like that. As pure as it is, jyānkī tyā dardinī, as pure I give to God back. So our human life, human life is very pure. But still there are many karmas from the past. And out of our emotion, ego, and blackmailings, we create this kind of karma again. So, this Kriyā is what you are doing, it’s very safe, and I’m happy for you. If you have some mental tension, it’s not because of the Kriyā. Because of our mistake, we did not prepare ourselves physically. When you go to the Himalayas, up to Mount Kailash, or climb Everest, you have to prepare yourself for one or two years. If you think, "Okay, I go with a helicopter there," you can go with a helicopter, you can get out, then walk a little, and it will happen exactly what happened with the Pāṇḍavas, one after the other, they fall down. Did you see that film? Who didn’t see it? So perhaps tomorrow I will show you a beautiful film about the Himalayas, Kedārnāth, Badrīnāth, etc. So human birth is given to realize, to become one with God, meaning God. It is possible, but when you listen to others and you fall back, that is your mistake. You wish to have gold, whatever you touch becomes gold, then go ahead. Therefore, nothing can be compared to our body. Even a diamond is not as precious as our body. Therefore, Holy Gurujī used to say in his satsaṅg, Safal banana chahi. Manav kā jīvan amūlya hai. The human life is very precious. Don’t lose it. Don’t waste this life. Meditate, devote yourself to God. Practice your mantra. Isse safal banana chahiye. Make it successful. Very good slogan. Human life is precious. Don’t lose it. Out of our ignorance, carelessness. Through this, through bhakti to God, we should be successful together. Therefore, your sādhanā is beautiful. Wish you all the best, and tomorrow we will continue.
