Pray for the Ancestors

The continuity of spiritual practice and the duty to teach are essential.

The Kriyā we practice comes from a single, ancient source of cosmic consciousness. Our path, developed over decades, now has thousands of teachers worldwide, ensuring its continuity. Yoga is not seasonal; it must be continuous to multiply and help others. Practice without interruption is vital, as stopping blocks energy. Your dharma is to pass on the teachings before you depart. Practicing only for yourself limits and finishes it. Teaching others generates a spiritual percentage that returns to you, like interest. Neglecting to liberate ancestors through ceremony allows their spirits to interfere, causing life problems. Modern suffering stems from losing connection to this spiritual reality. Every element in creation has a purpose. By practicing and teaching, you clear karmic obstacles for yourself and ancestors, helping to turn Kali Yuga into Satya Yuga through future generations.

"Your spirituality, your wisdom, is safe. But if you do not pass it on, it becomes blocked."

"Nothing existing in this world, which God has made, is not useful."

Welcome, all. Blessings of Gurudeva. Today is the second day of your sādhanā, your kriyā sādhanā. The kriyā you are doing is very beautiful and very spiritual. There have been, and are, so many Masters. Everyone describes their life journey, their impressions, and their experiences. They each describe the way in which they found safety and surety. Every direction is different, but the destination is one. Therefore, the Kriyā we are doing represents our experiences. It is given by the ancestors of our holy lineage. The source is one, and that is the cosmic consciousness. Every path is leading to that source. The source is that which is forever; there is no limitation. It may be millions of years old, yet all spiritual seekers drink the nectar of that source. That nectar means the blessings or the wisdom. Our spiritual sādhanās—our physical, mental, social, and spiritual practices according to yoga and daily life—are something we have been experiencing for the last 40 years. It is already five decades. Thousands of aspirants have learned and become teachers around the world, and they are giving it further to others. In this country, the Czech Republic, there are thousands of teachers now practicing and teaching in different places. Hardly any village will you find here without practitioners of yoga in their life, maybe one or more. It is similar in our neighboring countries. The evidence of this path, of this kriyā, is this: the system exists, develops, and continues. There are certain things we call seasonal: seasonal fruits, the seasonal environment, the seasons themselves—snow, autumn, spring, summer. The seasons change, but yoga in one's life is not seasonal. It is continuity, and therefore it will multiply, improve, and continue, thus helping people, helping others, and protecting our environment. To achieve our life aim, our life goal, it doesn’t matter where you are—it needs practice. If you stop practicing, your energy becomes blocked. Therefore, yogic discipline tells us: practice discipline, no interruption. It is sure that our life is getting shorter; we are getting older. We have one dharma: before we depart from this world, we must hand over the first-hand information or teachings. You are not practicing only for yourself. You have to handle it. Anyone who learns from you, whom you teach, will support your spirituality. In material language, it is said: from your capital, you get interest. Your capital is safe, but you want interest from it. The bank gives you interest. Similarly, your spirituality, your wisdom, is safe. But if you do not pass it on, it becomes blocked. By teaching and giving wisdom to others, you receive a percentage of their spirituality, and that is very important. When they hand it over to others, that will also improve you. It is like a karmic influence. If you give someone bad guidance, that will constantly, for many lives, be an obstacle for you. If you help someone and lead them to a beautiful path, that will clean up your own journey in the universe. So, what is the interest of a teacher? What is the interest of a guru? So much traveling, so much effort to teach someone, to help them continue these positive things in their life—this also affects your karma, the master’s karma. Therefore, do not practice only for yourself. Then it will be limited only to you and finished. It is said that children have a duty. They are responsible for looking after the ancestors. When our parents or elderly family members die, we automatically realize it is now our duty to perform a ceremony. When one has died, one cannot perform the ceremony for oneself. The soul waits for my generation to fulfill its last ceremony. And not only this: when that spirit comes to the astral world, it is asked there, "Who is your supporter now? Who is your guardian now?" Before, you were their guardian. Therefore, to have children is not everything. You must give the children that cultural education: what parents mean, what ancestors mean. That is why, from time to time, on certain days and occasions, we go to the samādhi place or graveyard. We know the soul is not there anymore; even the body may have dissolved into the elements. But that is the place where your emotional connection is. Through there you can enter and reach them. It need not be at the graveyard; anywhere you are, pray for the ancestors, and they will get liberation. Otherwise, there is no one to escort them. They wait and wait. When we do not pay attention to them, they become dispirited; they may become angry. Parents have a right to be angry with us. At that time, for them, the emotional attachment is finished, but they have their rights because the roots are there. The thread of your life is hooked there. They have to be freed. In Vedic religion, among Hindus, after twelve days there is a ceremony where they cut a thread with certain mantras. With this cutting of the thread, you free the ancestors from the debt. "Be free, please. Feel free. Find your path. Our prayers are with you. We will be with you." Then the soul ascends from this material world. If we do not do this, that spirit comes and influences your activities. It attacks in many ways. You may always have a problem finding a job. That is why it happens: you are a nice person, you have good relations with colleagues, but suddenly you lose your job. There must be some energy interfering. At home, you cannot have children, or you have no harmonious life with your partner, or you have bad dreams—many, many things. This is that science which modern education has not discovered and does not understand. The result is suffering. All those with what you call high education, high positions—they work well, do good, but inside they are not happy. They live in fear, fear of losing their position. After four years of a political term, the fifth year is preparation, and you know how nervous they are, how afraid, how uncertain. They try to become more humble to win the election again, to return to position. In this last year, they will come and shake hands. "How are you?" This and that. After the elections, the next day, even if you telephone, there is no answer. It is very hard to get an appointment. This is selfishness and fear. Why? Because they have lost that relation to the astral, spiritual world. If we do this spiritual work, we will be happy. Otherwise, there are many obstacles: health problems, business problems, children’s problems, education problems, partner problems—many, many things. But there are energies which can manage everything for us. So, where is the destructive energy? That is the main cause. Through practicing this Kriyā, which you are doing here, you are led there. It purifies the thorny bushes which have grown on the path of the ancestors, on their footsteps. It is hard for us to find and walk in their footsteps. Therefore, it is the Master, it is the Gurudev, who helps us clear away those thorny bushes of karma. Whether we believe or do not believe, that does not change the reality. Other creatures know. They are witnesses, but they cannot do anything. This is the difference: they know, but they cannot act. We can do something, but we do not know. This is that. So practice is very important, and to give further is very important. It is said: what you have, you should give. If you do not give, you will lose it, or it will be lost. In this way, thousands of aspirants around the world benefit from yoga in daily life. They have also prepared many teachers, and their teachers are preparing other teachers. This is continuity: from one seed, a mighty huge tree has grown, and all its seeds are again growing and sprouting. Children, you should give them good education, cultural education. I am very happy about our children. This morning we had a very nice sitting with them. They were very smart and very disciplined—not because parents forced them, but because these small children understand how healthy they are. This is an example, a proof of yoga in their life, showing how our new generation is willing to change something in this world. I asked them, "Who makes the honey?" The children said, "The bees. Do you like the honey?" Yes. "And from where do the bees bring the honey?" From the flowers. So we must also plant flowers, healthy flowers, healthy harbors. Therefore, in the Vedas, this mantra: oṃ tryambakaṃ yajāmahe sugandhiṃ puṣṭivardhanam. Sugandhiṃ puṣṭivardhanam. Sugandh is a good scent, aroma, a fragrance, a beautiful smell. Puṣṭi means complete. Vardhanam means increasing, growing, multiplying. This flower here had a long journey. Seeds have to die to give this beautiful smell. It is a relation between the flower and the bee, the bee and us, and us again to the flowers. This is a beautiful cycle in nature. If we pollute our world, you know, in many countries bees are dying out, disappearing, and they are importing bees from other countries. To this day, there is no science that can make honey like the bees can. So, understand the life of this small creature, the bee. Similarly, with butterflies and many others. Sugandhiṃ puṣṭivardhanam: all our herbs, plants, and vegetation should be healthy. For different causes, God has developed different kinds of herbs. You know, I have told this story many times. A disciple comes to the Master and asks, "Master, can you accept me as your disciple?" In that time, they had to wait twelve years for a yes or no. The Master said, "Only yes, but I have to test you to see if you are worthy." That takes twelve more years—twenty-four years. Then he will decide what kind of nature you have, how disciplined you are. It takes another twenty-four years, and still you are there. Then the disciple asked, "Master, please, can you now give me the mantra and accept me?" The Master said, "No." The disciple said, "Why, Master?" The Master replied, "Because I gave it to you already, thirty-six years ago. I don’t know, but I know. That’s why you are here." So you never know in which way the Master works on us. That time was different. Now, you want to come and say, "Can you give me a mantra, Master?" He says, "No, next time." Okay. You go, thinking, "Next time, I don’t know if I will come." So it is a different situation. But this being, the relation… So the disciple asked the Master, "Please, Master, can you accept me as your disciple?" He said, "Yes, there is one test. Bring me any kind of plant, or grass, or tree—anything which is not useful for anything." The Master said, "You have twelve years for it." So he traveled around the world, sword to sword and door to door, asking, "What is good for this grass, this plant?" Everywhere they told him something is good for this and that. "This is very poisonous, but if a snake bites, you apply this immediately to neutralize the poison. Therefore, it is very important. But it is very poisonous. Why don’t you put it out?" "Yes, good idea. But when the snake bites us, where will we search for it? Therefore, we protect this." He traveled around the world. He wrote the name of each plant, drew its picture, noted what it was good for, and brought it to the Master. He said, "Master, I failed." The Master said, "I knew." "Then why did you send me?" "Well, maybe I thought you would find something." He said, "Master, I have tried very hard, and here is the evidence: pictures, names, what they are good for, and what they are not good for." "No," the Master said. "You passed your examination because nothing existing in this world, which God has made, is not useful." So respect all. Everything and everyone has its own specialty. And from that became a very big Āyurveda book, which you can read in Caraka and many others. So, my dear, whatever you do, good or bad, it will follow you for many, many lives. When you have good disciples and they are practicing, they give you a percentage. That is called a tax, a tax to Gurudev. What kind of tax? Your spirituality. It is automatic. This is a system in a computer. Automatically, it will be forwarded. Even the master does not have to concentrate to look every day in the computer to see if this disciple has sent it or not. The disciple also does not have to look to see if I have sent it or not. And when trouble comes: "Oh God, I blocked it. I didn’t send, that’s why trouble came." What does "blocked" mean? It means you stopped practicing, and at that time you are in trouble. So let it flow. Water should flow always. When water is stuck in one place, it becomes stinky. A sādhu should travel all the time. Then there is no more blaming, no attachment. So, sādhu to chaltā balā, pānī to chaltā balā, a pānī to behtā balā. But Mahāprabhujī said something different: that water should not flow. If it is like an ocean, can you imagine how the ocean begins to move? Rivers still give it water, so it is good that it is there. But it should be so much water, deep water. When it is very deep, it does not become stinky. A little pond, a little creek, will become stinky. But a sādhu is good if you stay in only one place, if it is very spiritual. That is why I am stuck in you, with you. You see? Because you are great, and I am safe. So practice, practice, practice. Your benefit is in giving. Give the best culture, education to your children, the best way of living life, the best spiritual education. That depends on parents. Children are raw material in the hands of the parents, and they can mold it as they like when it is that raw material. Once earth dries and breaks apart, you cannot model it. When children begin to go to kindergarten, it is hard to model them. The best education is in the lap of the parents: satsaṅg and good education. There are, around the world, thousands of good masters and millions of good students. They are trying very hard to bring a good atmosphere, peace, and harmony to the world. The end of the Kali Yuga is either very, very critical, or the end of the Kali Yuga will be very gentle. When you are very tired and exhausted, it is a very critical situation. Either you get a heart attack, or you decide just to lie down and rest. So you come automatically, gently overcoming all tensions; you wake up good and fresh. You remember that in Vipā I told you I am preparing you so that in your next life you will turn Kali Yuga into Satya Yuga. What does it mean? Your kids, your generation, will be so good and spiritual, so well-educated, that they will create good friends, and Kali Yuga will become Satya Yuga. For that, we have to work. Otherwise, even if we die, it will still influence us. Like a saw cuts both sides, both directions—so that is sādhanā. Good practice, but it is twenty-four hours. Whatever you are doing, do according to the principles of yoga in daily life. This is the message for this evening. Tomorrow we will come to the next point. Remember, this morning, with very deep meanings, very concrete, we explained about Ātmā and Guru Tattva. What was that? Jog ke antra jāmī, charā charā kī ātmā, Prabhu charā charā kī ātmā, Śhrī Guru ātmā paramā. Tomorrow we will work on this. I wish you a very good evening and practice. Do your best. If you are very tired and cannot sit, just stand up and walk in our apple garden. The teacher will see. "What are you doing?" "I’m doing my kriyā." So do kriyā and walk in the apple garden. How nice it is. You have to do something; the body needs movement. If you are practicing and sitting for a whole year, then it is okay. But sometimes the body needs some movement. So we say, "Ek panth do kāj." Very good. Ek panth do kāj. Everything clear? You understand Hindi, so I need not… Ek panth do kāj. One way done, two things. You went one way, but you did two things. You visited your friends or parents in the hospital, and you came back also while shopping. So you didn’t have to go extra shopping. One way, and then two things. What does this mean for us? We do our kriyā, and we do something which is good for our body, for us, and for our sādhanā with the mauna. I have a beautiful kriyā tomorrow for you, for the Kriyānusthān people. Then we will sit and look, and we will do our āsanas. One, two, and look what they are doing. You will ask your teacher, "Can we also join?" Swami Ji said, "No." Jesus, Maria. Okay. One, two. Okay, so I will tell you differently afterwards, okay? So, my dear, tomorrow’s webcast will be in the morning at 11 a.m. and in the evening at 8 p.m. Thank you. All the best, and bless you all. I wish you all the best, and I bid you farewell.
