With Satsang you are always protected

Satsaṅg and the company of a saint are exceedingly rare in this age. These are the two rare things described in scripture. Satsaṅg, where the glory of God is spoken, provides inspiration and the right spiritual direction. A saint is recognized by purity in thought, word, and deed, remaining equipoise amidst all dualities. Without such purity, one is not a saint. In this age, good company is scarce while bad company is ubiquitous. Through satsaṅg one gains self-knowledge; it is the fruit of good past karma. Bad company, or kuṣaṅga, yields only bitterness. Just as a bitter gourd cannot be made sweet even by washing it countless times in the Gaṅgā, a soul tainted by bitter karma and kuṣaṅga is not easily purified. Therefore, do not allow yourself to be drawn into bad company, for it leads you away from satsaṅg. The presence of a true saint or the practice of satsaṅg has the power to purify even haunted places and liberate troubled souls, demonstrating the protective grace of the Guru. In satsaṅg, one elevates; in bad company, one degrades.

"Tulsī Dāsī said this is very rare."

"Fortunate are they who can come to satsaṅg."

Śrī Dīpālana Bhagavān, Jai, Jai... Jai, Jai... Śānti, śānti. Good evening, all dear bhaktas around the world. It is a blessed time. The great Tulsīdāsa said in the holy book Rāmāyaṇa, a beautiful poem, that in this Kali Yuga, two things are rare. One is the company of a saint, and the second is satsaṅg. Tulsīdāsajī says that in this Kali Yuga, two things are rare: the presence of a saint and satsaṅg. Harikathā in satsaṅg, where the glory of God is spoken, inspires us and gives us motivation to go on the right path of spirituality. That we can get only in satsaṅg. Satsaṅg and the meeting of a saint—a saint is not known through some uniform, but through purity in thoughts, actions, and words. It is called santuṣṭa ātmā. Santuṣṭa means content, satisfied. Whatever comes, comes: happiness and unhappiness. In the Bhagavad Gītā, Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa said a saint is always on the same level of consciousness. Whether there is sukha or duḥkha, name or fame, it is always the same. Friends or enemies are always the same. It is not easy for us to be like that, but the saints can. It does not matter where you are. So, as long as there is no purity in the heart, you are not a saint. Dualities, doubts, anger, greed, etc., are not qualities of a saint. It is said, "Simple living, higher thinking," but now we say, "Higher living, and lower thinking." In Kali Yuga, everything is turned upside down. The 12th chapter of the Bhagavad Gītā can give you immense knowledge. So, "Sant Samaṅgam Hari Kathā, Tulsī Durlabdhoi," Tulsī Dāsī said this is very rare. Can you tell how many satsaṅgs every day are in the Czech Republic? It does not matter from which belief, but there is none. It is very rare. Luckily, once a week we have satsaṅg in our yoga and day-life center. But how many kuśaṅga centers or places are there? In every village, on every street, on every highway, at every holiday place, everywhere is kuśāṅga. So, through satsaṅg we get ātma-jñāna. Holy Gurujī said, "Fortunate are they who can come to satsaṅg." When the good karma from a past life awakens, then one comes to satsaṅg. And when bad luck comes, then your thoughts go towards kuṣaṅga. So the fruits of kuṣaṅga are bitterness. And when some seeds are put into your brain as kuṣaṅga, then it is very hard to purify. The bitter fruit, the seed of the bitter fruit is also bitter, and everything is bitter. There is a bitter gourd, which looks nice. Sometimes it looks like you can make a water pot. At that time, many sādhus mostly used them as water pots. Now we all have plastic bottles. When you go from home, first what do you put? The bottled water. In neighboring countries like Hungary, there are many such gourds. They are not for eating, only for decoration. They have a capacity of about two or three litres, depending on how big they were grown. It is ripe inside, with nothing but seeds. We call that tumbā. You know the tastumbā? We have tastumbā prepared. This is one of the best things for the stomach and digestion. If someone has some kind of bacteria or worms in the stool or stomach, you get antibiotics or medicine. But if you take this tāstumba, that is the best. Antibiotics may not help, but that will help you 100% to remove gastric troubles and to remove constipation. This Tastumba is the best. It is a long work to prepare this. This Tastumba is about one kilo, or maximum one and a half kilos, a week. It grows in many warm countries. Maybe they know or they don't know; about two or three years ago, we were driving along the whole of Australia on a desert tour. When we came towards Western Australia, near Perth, about 200 kilometers or a few hundred kilometers, suddenly you could see left and right on the highway so many tastumba. I told them, "Stop, and let's collect." But to prepare that tastumba, it is a long process. When the tastumba is ripe, when the seeds are over and the crops are ripe, that time you take the tastumba and make a little hole and fill inside with ajvain. This is the anise, the hot anise, the sharp anise. And a little, let's say, one teaspoon of ajvain, one teaspoon of methī, and half a teaspoon or a little less than half a teaspoon of salt. You put it in that hole, and with the same piece, you cover it and keep it outside in the cold night. The next day, again fill inside with honey and this. It will take around one month. You will consume inside nearly one kilo ajvain and half a kilo or quarter kilo methi and salt. These three—methi, ajvain, and salt—they will consume, suck all the parts of the tumbā. It becomes very soft, and because of the salt, water begins to come out. Then you leave it in the sun for one month, two months. It dries. Everything remains inside. Then you make a powder from it. Whenever you have trouble with the stomach, you take just a quarter teaspoon before going to sleep. It is very bitter. Drink it. Put it in the mouth and drink water. That will destroy all in the stomach that is not good for our body. So you do this for one month. That is all. And sometimes when you have gastric problems, like constipation, then you use it again. So this is called taṣṭumba. It is very healthy, and many times horses get colic in their stomach and die. But if you have tastumba ready and you make powder in the water and put it in the mouth inside, immediately it will release the pain in the stomach, and you can save the life of a horse. So, with those who have horses, we have this in the horse stable. From time to time, we put it in the feeder, and they like it; they eat it. This is the miracle of the Tastumba. You should have it with you. There are other Tumbas, which are big ones. You will see in the Vedic culture of Sanātana Dharma, the old-time sādhus and ṛṣis had a tumbā in their hand. This tumba was mostly for carrying water or food. They go for food, take it in this tumba, come home, eat, clean, and fill the water inside. The speciality of this tumba is that it keeps water very nice and cool, so beautiful. This tumbā has many good qualities. So among the sādhus, when they sit and speak, what is good in this tumba? That water tumba, yes? So it is said, "Tumba tirene tirave." This gourd is fluttering in the water, and if you cannot swim, you hold that; it will save your life. "Tumba tirene tirave." This tumba is swimming, fluttering, and it saves your life. It rescues you. Tumba gives you cool water to drink. Tumba helps you to bring your food. "Tumba, Bābājī ke lave." This tumba tells, oh, this is a sādhu. This is an ornament of the sādhus. Now we have a nice thermos, you know. This and that, that is not an ornament. So, when you have tumbā, everybody says, "Oh, Bābājī is coming." Bābājī is all; all sādhus are Bābājī. You know, anyone, you can say Gajānanda Bābā, it is another name of the Sādhu. So all are Baba; it is in our local language. Anyone who will say, "Praṇām Bābājī," all Sādhvīs or Sādhus, they will say, "Praṇām Bābājī." There is no gender duality, so Bābājī. So, "Babājī Kelave." It means, "It lets you call Babājī." It gives you the title of the Bābājī. "Tumbī Khoj Gamāve." And this Tumbā, let's finish your generation because you have no children. And also, no thief steals this. It is very safe. What will the thieves do with this? There is a nice bhajan. Now, this is the quality, but the other part of the Tumba, it is said that it does not give up its guṇa. Guṇa means quality. So it is said, "This is a nice bhajan." Nice rāga, very nice. Bitter tumba, bitter seed, and bitter their plants. So this tumba, even if we bathe it a hundred times in the Gaṅgā, a thousand times, still it will remain bitter. So like this, those who have bitter karma, it does not matter how many times you are deep in the holy Gaṅgā, your sin will be there. So, kuṣaṅga changes our quality, and after you go to bathe in the Gaṅgā, it will not be purified. Therefore, satsaṅg is rare. The company of the sādhu is rare. "Sant Samaṅgam Harikathā Tulsī Durlabho," these two are rare. Śuddhāra or Lakṣmī, Pāpīke Bihoy, children, wife, wealth—even the sinner can have. So, are you born for this or for that? If we think, "What is the sense of human life?" then we will say, "Spirituality, achievement." Therefore, do not let yourself be confused and put you to the kuśaṅgas, for it takes you away from satsaṅga. When you take a carrot out of the garden, the carrot comes out, but it takes some earth with it. So one crazy person goes out of the satsaṅg and begins to criticize, saying negative things, and it will take some of these poor souls into naraka. Lucky are they who can be in satsaṅg. So, there was a question: "I hear sound." Someone is talking in me. Yes, it can also come in the house. When you go to your sleeping room, in the bathroom, someone is talking. And when you go to the bathroom, someone is talking in the sleeping room. When you go to the sleeping room, someone is walking in the kitchen. Yes. There are some spirits which are not liberated. That is called pitra doṣa. These are ancestors who did not get proper ceremonies, and they are still hanging somewhere here and there. They are above this material world; therefore, they do not have any attachment to this material body or anything. It is not like your children, then you say, "Oh, it is my child." The relation of the father, mother, and children is only in this material world; then it is finished. Or it can be in certain places where there was a lot of cruelty, and some very wounded and very tortured soul is there, who died. We do not know the past of this building where we are. When we bought this castle and were going home to Rome, a few people stayed here. They were sleeping, cleaning, and preparing so that one could have a living quality here. Pārvatī was also here. In the night and even daytime, they heard different voices in the different rooms, and they opened the door and there was nobody. So, of course, they were a little bit scared. True, Pārvatī? Can you explain what it was? Yes? Explain it to us. Do you think Swāmījī is making stories? But she can tell herself, so it is really true. When we came here, the atmosphere was very unpleasant. It was an educational center for young people before. What was here before, we do not know. We heard many things here. Some people even saw something. Once we were sitting in Katu, and somebody was knocking on the door. I went to open the door, and there was nobody. In the beginning, people were afraid to sleep here. They were very happy when there were more people here, not just one person. When somebody needed to go to the toilet during the night, we always repeated the mantra. Then we put the pictures of Swāmījī all over, and all the other masters. And we put the mantras from Yajñas. Then, thanks to Swamījī and the satsaṅg, everything was purified. Thank you. So Parvati phoned me and told me what to do. I said, satsaṅg and Gurudeva's picture. When I came, I had the Agrabah in my hand, and I walked through each room. That night they had a meeting, all the souls who were here tortured. No one had them, or did not know who could make the ceremonies. They expressed their thankfulness and said, "Swāmījī, thank you. Now we are in peace." So this is the Guru Kṛpā, the power of spirituality. It is said, be fearless, never be scared. So this is the evidence of the satsaṅg, and it is not here only; it happened in many, many places. I think it was around 1975, between 75 and 80, I was in one city in England called Leicester. There were at that time two Hindu temples. Now there are a few temples. I stayed there about two or three weeks. They had one small house, which they bought for the temple, so sādhus or some priests could come and stay there. We were two sādhus there. There was one sādhu from India. He was with his mother. His mother was about 90, 95 years old, and he was about 70 years old. In another room, I stayed. With me, there was one young boy from Austria. In the evening we made prayer in my room, both of us. Then we went to the temple to give satsaṅg. We locked our room. For prayer, we had a ghee lamp like this. When we came back after two or three hours, of course, the ghee was finished and the wick was burned, but it became two: one on this side and one on that side—two. I said, "We had only one wick inside, and how did it come to be?" I thought that boy Stefan made it. The next day again we had prayer and we went, and we came and it is true. So I thought, "This Swāmījī is doing." So we really checked the lock, and we bought another lock, and we put the lock. When we came back again, two, then it was, I think, full moon or some good day, and we requested him also to come to satsaṅg, but because of the old mother, we took the mother also with us. I said, "Stefan, I see one lamp. Do you see two or one?" He said, "One." So we locked the door. We come, it is two. Then Stefan was very fearful. He said, "Oh God, what would be here now? What will happen?" I said, it is not bad. Instead of one, there are two lights. The next day, I spoke with that Swāmījī. He told me, "Tomorrow I will tell you." Then he told me that he had said something nice about me. He said, "Here is some spirit. He was spiritual, but he made mistakes, so his soul is not liberated. But through your coming, your presence, Swamijī, he is liberated, and he makes prayer after you go. Out of his joy and respect, it will repeat about two weeks, one day, then he will go." So after those past days and this day, about two weeks, I found physically there a flower near the Dīpak, and then the next day it did not happen. The house had a completely different atmosphere. So this is when you are a bhakta of a saint. Then it is the Gurudev who takes care of us. That is why Holī Gurujī said, "Mere sir par hera kvala," that Mahāprabhujī is the protector on my head. And Holī Gurujī said many times, "Mahesh, where will you go? This negative ghost will disappear. Negative spirits will disappear." So many will disappear. He wrote one letter, I have. No, nothing can go close to the sun. What burns will burn, what disappears will disappear. It will dissolve or melt. They cannot come to the sun. Similarly, Mahesh, any difficulties come, nothing can come close to you. If anyone throws dust toward the sun, it will fall on them. Those who go against the senses will have a very cruel life. Their own thoughts will kill them. Therefore, it is said in the Rāmāyaṇa, "Jisko Prabhu dhārun dukdehī, unkī buddhi pellehī hardehī." Now, God knows that this soul has to go through certain troubles. Then God takes the best thought, the buddhi, away. So it does not come on the God that God did. It is they; their thoughts will kill them, and they will be suffering, and who will follow them will be suffering in the darkness. "Jisko prabhu dharun dukde, uski buddhi pele hi harle." Therefore, we said after prayer, "Gurudev, bless me with śakti, bhakti." Jana, buddhi, sadbuddhi give good thoughts. Many times people come and talk, "Holy Gurujī, this and this happened in our house. We bought it, it is very expensive, we cannot buy a new house." Gurujī said, "Let Mahesh come back from Europe. Invite him, he will come, and he will come to your house, and everything will be okay." Do you think he will come, Gurujī? Maybe he is in Europe and he does not care about us. Guruji said, "I will come with you. Then he will come, definitely." So we went there. Of course, it is Gurujī's presence, not my presence. But you know, parents always would push their child in front. We were once staying near Mount Abu, in a small village. There are many, many bhaktas. Nearly the whole village is Mahāprabhujī, Holī Gurujī's bhakta. They were waiting so much. I think I was not there for how many years. Many times I passed through that village, nearby about 10 kilometers, 8 kilometers. But always hurry, hurry, hurry. I should go. I love that village. People are great bhaktas, and especially they are good cooks. Guruji and I stayed ten days in that village, sometimes two weeks. Many of them are working in Mumbai, in Ahmedabad, many are working in Belgium as cooks. I have known them since 1965, so I was a young boy just going with Gurujī. They love me too. And you know who does not like sweets? So afternoon when Gurujī was resting, they took me in the room and we were eating nice, good sweets, and then afternoon Gurujī wanted to eat at six o'clock, and I said, "I have no hunger." Gurujī said, "I know, you were eating laddus." I said, "How do you know?" We were walking. So that village is very dear to me. We stayed in that house, and Gurujī told me, "Four o'clock in that room is a ghost." I said, "Why?" No, I was afraid. I said, I will not sleep with you, Swagurujī, in that room. So he said, "If you will sleep, the problem will not be there." I said, "What do you mean, Gurujī, ghost?" I was sleeping deeply, and he just held my legs and pulled me halfway out of my bed. I wake up, and there is nobody there. So it happens three times. I said, Gurujī, that was great. He said, "Why? Because he was touching your holy feet to get liberation. So he was pulling you to his heart, to your feet." But I did not see. I said, if you see, he will not come. Guruji said, "Is he like that?" I said, "Yes." Then tomorrow he will not come, and the next day was peace. So it is true. When, like a divine soul, like holy Gurujī, either he comes, or his photo comes, or his name chanting comes, all these magic things disappear. Guruji said, "If you bite on the stone, you will lose your teeth." So much so, if someone will attack you, they will lose their life. So, Guru Kṛpā, Guruji had great love for me. So that was great. So satsaṅg and kuśaṅg. In satsaṅg, you become deva, a god. And in kuṣaṅga, you become asura. Karma will not leave you free, and time will not give you a chance. Sooner or later, it will come because you have developed within you bitterness. It is a morning rāga. Beautiful. Next time, I will write the whole bhajan, bring it, and sing it for you. Okay? Promised? Alright. Śrīman Nārāyaṇa, Nārāyaṇa, Śrīman Nārāyaṇa, Nārāyaṇa... Śrīman Nārāyaṇa, Śrīman Nārāyaṇa... Śrīman Nārāyaṇa... Śrīman Nārāyaṇa, Śrīman Nārāyaṇa.
