The flying of Paramhansa

A satsang on the master-disciple relationship and the nectar of spiritual communion.

"Mahāprabhujī said, 'The sun is shining equally for all.' But those who have the technology of the solar panels gain more energy."

"When my bhaktas are not here, that’s my condition. They are in my ocean, and I am in their ocean."

Swami Maheshananda (Swami Avatarpuri) opens the satsang by describing his inner invocation of the spiritual trinity. He narrates a poignant story of Mahāprabhujī expressing a deep longing for the presence of his disciple, Holy Gurujī (Madhavānanda), using it to illustrate the unique connection in a lineage and the essential flow of wisdom. He explains the seeker's longing using metaphors of the paramahaṁsa (swan) in the lake of the mind, a thirsty bird awaiting a direct raindrop, and a river flowing to the ocean, urging all to unite and share the divine message without selfishness.

Om Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān kī Śrī Śrī Dev Puruṣa Mahādeva kī Satguru Svāmī Madhvananda Bhagavān kī Satya Sanātana Dharma kī Jai. Good evening and good morning. Many have the evening, and many have the morning. Happy to see you. When I begin my satsaṅg—you may call it a lecture or a talk—I close my eyes immediately. My vṛttis, my visions, the light goes to Śrī Devapurījī’s Ashram, Kailāśa. I see very clearly all the trinities sitting near the dhūni under the neem tree in Kailash: Devapurījī, Mahāprabhujī, and Holy Gurujī. For the practitioners, the sādhaka, for the seekers, it is very important to get inner strength, wisdom, and light. At that time, in our own cidākāśa, this energy of the trinity dwells. Whatever you wish or speak, I ask for the blessings. First, Devapurījī, where Devapurījī raises his hand up, his divine light covering me, flowers falling down. This is very important, and I think I did not tell you. After that, I come to Mahāprabhujī and ask for his blessings and take the āsana in my hṛdayākāśa. Hṛdayākāśa means the space of the heart, where blessings of protection, love, and wisdom reside. Greetings to our universal worship, Bhagavān, Satguru, Holy Gurujī, and I ask him to take place in my Viśuddhi Chakra, where words are the language. This gives me a very clear picture and certainty, and this is what all bhaktas should do whenever they have some wish or some problem to solve. You will get a very clear indication. Also, when you sit for meditation, you do the same, this mānasik pūjā, or when you teach classes or give talks on our yoga and daily life for the well-being of all. That time is very important, to have this vṛtti nāma kartā: "I am not doing." Mahāprabhu deep karta, Mahāprabhujī is doing. Mahāprabhu karta he kevalam—only his divine will, meaning the trinity, is acting. Holy Gurujī writes in Līlā Amṛt what he is writing. Many things we did not manage to write. A lot of treasure is still there, which I hope some time I will open for everyone’s wish. Mahāprabhujī was residing in Bolā Guḍā Āśram. You know the Bola Guda Ashram, and Holy Gurujī was staying with Mahāprabhujī. There is a small hut there, and Holy Gurujī used to stay there. Mahāprabhujī had one other room, and that hut Mahāprabhujī used to call Madhavanan’s bungalow, the meditation prayer hall where Mahāprabhujī’s statue is, Devapurījī’s picture, and Holy Gurujī’s Holy Lotus Feet sign. My dear, we are human and we have different feelings. So it has always been kind of different. I would not say jealous, but still, to be first: why did Mahāprabhujī always support Holy Gurujī and why not me? It means some other sādhus—they were also many. Mahāprabhujī said, "The sun is shining equally for all." But those who have the technology of the solar panels gain more energy. That solar panel is in our Maṇipūra Chakra, that is in our heart and in our Sahasrāra Chakra. But sometimes people created such an atmosphere that for Holy Gurujī it was difficult to understand. And Mahāprabhujī said, "You go for a while to the satsaṅg giving." One day, Holy Gurujī comes back after ten days. Holy Gurujī told me that, "Mahesh, when for a little time I was separated from Mahāprabhujī physically, by distance, I was always longing like a calf longing for the mother to go and drink milk, the milk of the wisdom." Holy Gurujī said, "Mahāprabhujī, I can endure anything, but not the distance from you." Mahāprabhujī said, "I am everywhere with you." He said, "Yes, but my body, this mortal body, my indriyas, my eyes are longing to see thy physical body." Gurujī went to Ahmedabad. He came back. When he went to Ahmedabad, sometimes when Holy Gurujī was gone, then many people came because they wanted to be very near to Mahāprabhujī. They came, and in the afternoon there was always satsaṅg where Mahāprabhujī was sitting. I am telling you, my dear, for the well-being of ourselves. What is the role of the master, and how to unite all? But some people are like this, like what we call—it is very hard to gauge the water’s depth on this scale. You put a one-kilo weight on one side, and now you weigh the water. If they are one kilo, but what is happening? One jumps out. You bring that back, three jump out. So, until the bhaktas understand the message of Gurudeva, the work or mission is sometimes misunderstood. The word "mission" comes from "missionary," and then again creates conflict. Therefore, the message, the blessings—about 30-40 bhaktas were sitting there, and one of Mahāprabhujī’s, also a very close bhakta, from one village called Sivas, from Balagoda, about 8 kilometers far, maximum 10, 8-10 kilometers. He was working as the personal secretary of the Maharaja of Jodhpur. So his name was Devī Siṅghjī. Devī Siṅghjī came, and people were sitting and giving satsaṅg. Mahāprabhujī had tears in his eyes. All were looking surprised. What is today, Mahāprabhujī’s? Why? Then Mahāprabhujī said, "Madhavānanda is not here today." They all said, "He will come. We are all here. What do you need, Gurujī, Mahāprabhujī? What can we do?" Mahāprabhujī said, "Yes, you are here. I am very happy. No problem. And I am happy also, but there is something missing still. When the soul is not here, something is missing in the body. When the juice is not in the lemon anymore, there is something missing." And Mahāprabhujī said, "Give me the Tāṇḍurā or Vīṇā, Ektārā." Mahāprabhujī is saying a beautiful bhajan. This bhajan, you know, all bhaktas. Satguru, satsaṅgī, or you own away. Mahāprabhujī said, "I am longing for satsaṅgīs, bhaktas." When there are 99 coins, it is still not 1 euro. 99 cents does not make one euro. Again, doubts appear in people. Why, Prabhujī, you are always supporting the Madhavānamjī? Gurujī said, "I support all." But when in my body, everything is there, but the kidneys are not there anymore. Or my heart is not there, or my liver is not there. So for a master, for a bhakta, it is equal love. But that love doesn’t go that side, because when it’s raining—like when it’s raining equally here in this place where we are sitting—the water flows more where it is deep. It doesn’t remain on the higher place or on the rock. Similarly, when there’s... Really, a devotion to God, to the Guru, it’s a love. When that love will be between husband and wife, there will be no problem. The wife should have an adoration for the husband, and the husband should have an adoration for the wife, parents, and... Children, similarly, between master and disciple. Our Prabhujī said, "If Madhvanan will be alone here and you are not here, same thing, my feeling will be." We are singing mantra: "Pūrṇaṁ pūrṇaṁ mātā, pūrṇaṁ midaṁ." So when one is missing, there is no pūrṇa. And one, we have to be only one. Means, more bodies are more, but we all equally work together in harmony and satsaṅg, and bring the message of the Gurudev. Because if you have doubts, and you work that you are best, and you are giving nice... Satsangs or talk, something, but you don’t like other than your knowledge is not complete, not pūrṇa. That’s why many, many great, great saints were... we people are here. We people in the western countries don’t know about all great saints. About them is nothing written. What you have? Books available that only you read, and you judge, "Oh, that was great!" But they were so great, sitting under the tree, in the caves of the Himālaya somewhere, or in the desert. Only their blessing could give life to the dead. Persons, they close eyes, and they said, "Where you had what problem?" But about them is not written because afterwards the bhaktas, disciples, were fighting for the position, and they didn’t get anything. It is it. Your knowledge, your love, your divine energy, if you don’t give it to someone, it will get lost. Knowledge is something very, very important. You can’t hold that. You can’t own the sky. You can’t hold the wind. But that knowledge has to be given. Water has to flow. When water remains in one spot, it becomes stagnant. When water flows, it doesn’t matter how much dirt was there, it becomes clean and clean and clean. It is said, sorry, saritā. Sarita means that which is flowing, the river. Similarly, our bhakti should constantly flow. The river is aimed toward the ocean constantly. It doesn’t matter how it is: it’s freezing, snow, rock, many thorny bushes falling in, but it’s constantly flowing. So this frozen is that you withdraw for a while yourself, or snowing, or a cold, thorns, obstacles, rocks. Suddenly, you don’t know now where to go. But in the consciousness, the ocean and the river are constantly connecting; they don’t want to be separated. When the river is diverted by humans, and little dams are made and directed to the desert, that river will not reach the ocean. There must always be a connection between the river and the ocean, and the possibility to flow. So Mahāprabhujī said that light, that wisdom which Devapurījī gave, Bhadwānanda has a capacity to hold that wisdom, which is like a burning fire. You have to hold it in your hand. Truth is very hard to digest. Rare people can digest the truth, and they can melt it and let it flow into the purities. So, very great siddhas we don’t know. Only we can go sometimes and go down to that divine, holy place, that is the spot where such a great saint lived. Maybe one day, someone will come there, and suddenly the master will know who passed away before. Some centuries will again awake in the consciousness of that pure person. So, we all bhaktas, including myself around the world, if you want to be that sun, if you would like to be that ocean, then join together like clouds. Come, rain dropping. All the drops come together and have the strength to flow in a direction, and that direction flows and becomes a little creek, and that little creek has a constant consciousness. Direction to the river and the river doesn’t matter; there are curves in the situation, but water has no curves. Similarly, all your students, the seekers who come to you, you have to help them to come together. One drop can become a river, or one drop can be lost anywhere. So these drops which are falling on different places, on the rocks, on the bushes, on thorny bushes, on the lotus flowers or on the rose flower petals, anywhere. But that energy, the vibration, unites them and brings them together. That is our duty, and that we give the space. Don’t hold your student. Many people we call the catcher, many people hold the student. And when your student goes to the other students’ teachers, you are angry or you don’t like it. It means you... Have a selfishness. You can’t hold the air, you can’t hold the wind, you can’t hold the sky, but it is your duty to say, "Look how beautiful the sky is, how good the air is." These words are spoken by Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Mahāprabhujī and by that Devī Siṅghjī. We had a little video about him. Unfortunately, he passed away a few years ago. Mahāprabhujī’s, can you imagine, they said Mahāprabhujī was so peaceful always. No wonder Mahāprabhujī has to be peaceful. And his visions were far. He spoke very few words. So when the people were there, Mahāprabhujī said, when his tears came, they said, "Gurudev, what happened?" Mahāprabhujī said, I am longing for the satsaṅgī of the Satguru Dev’s satsaṅg. Devapurījī’s satsaṅg, bhaktas, I want to see. And some of my bhaktas are not here. Dev Purījī’s bhaktas. And so I was remembering. I remember Gurudev said, "I remember my bhaktas’ longing. My tears, my eyes are full of tears. So when I think of these dear bhaktas who are not here, my eyes are full of tears. Why?" Devasinghe said, "But Gurudev, you said you are everywhere with all bhaktas." Gurujī said, Mahāprabhujī said, "Yes." But ask all others who are sitting here what they are thinking now. What are they thinking when I am talking? Because Mahāprabhujī was an antarjāmī, He knew about your heart. He knew about your thoughts. He knew about your feelings. He knew where you are hanging somewhere. We couldn’t hide. This is a beautiful vidyā. Sanjīvanī vidyā, śvar vidyā, there are certain kriyās. How do I feel? Mahāprabhujī said. Bhagavān said, God said to the bhaktas, "How I feel today." Without water, the fish gives up life. When you take the fish out of the water, you see how she’s suffering, rolling, her body opening its mouth, wanting to go back into the water. Tadapnā means suffering, so much pain, and the soul goes out of that water. So, when my bhaktas are not here, that’s my condition. They are in my ocean, and I am in their ocean. The swans, the real paramahaṅsa swans, are in Mansarovar. There are two Mansarovars. One Mansarovar is in the Himalaya, near Mount Kailash. And second, Mansarovar is—man means the mind. Sarovar means the ocean of your mind. In your mind, in your chidākāśa, in your vṛttis, in your thoughts should dwell the paramahaṁsas, not the ducks, not some other kingfisher who is fishing the just fish. What this haṁsā eats, when you have in your chidākāśa the haṁsā, paramahaṁsā. The nourishment of the paramahaṁsa is the pulse. If there is no pulse, what can this one eat? Now, what means the pulse? In the ocean of our vṛttis and our thoughts, our mind, there is your jīvātmā as paramahaṁsa. And that needs a pulse to eat means the pearls of the wisdom, you know. There’s one book we have written, small, "The Pearls of the Wisdom." So when in your thoughts divine words are there, without dualities, without attachment, in clearness, then your... Each and every thought is like a beautiful pulse, and that swan, Paramahaṁsa, is nourishing. So it means our ātmā, our jīvātmā, needs that pure nourishment of the divine worlds, of the wisdom, guru-vākya, from all the divine books. Try, you have. The pearls inside. Let the paramahaṃsa dive in your manas sarovar, sarovar, the ocean of your mind, your vṛttis, that always you, ānanda. Divāna satguru nāmaka, that time so many pearls, you are happy. There is one mother pearl on a particular constellation, the Revatī constellation, according to astrology. That time when the rain begins, this mother pearl gets a direct drop. That drop becomes the best pearl. That becomes the best pearl. So, but who lets it rain? The drops of the nectar. Your verse, if you remember, we spoke a few days ago, one week ago, about in your tongue. Is nectar honey, so those amṛta bunda. Bunda means the drops. The Czechoslovakian say jacket, "bunda," so languages have different, but okay, very good. All language is good. Jacket is protecting us from the heat and cold, so this amṛta bunda. Only can let rain Brahma Jñānī, Brahma Niṣṭha, Brahma Śrotriya Satguru Dev. That becomes that pearl where now you are the mother pearl. We are the mother pearl, and we are longing for that Guru Vākya. You never know which time some word will be spoken, and you will catch that divine. Take the liberty of every situation that you can be here with your Guru brothers and sisters. Amṛtā bindu kun barasāve. Sāgar sīp umang ho tarse. The Sagar sip umang. Umang means happiness, joy. Like if something is coming, oh, now it’s coming, now it’s coming. Heavy clouds went away, not a single drop, disappointment. So, the inner Jīvātmā is in the ocean of this body. This is that mother sheep. It is longing for that Amṛta. One Amṛtā bird turns all the mortal vibrations in the body, removes everything, and develops the immortal cells in the body. There is one bird in particular at a certain time of the season. She is very thirsty. Thirsty. It’s the first rain coming in monsoon. Her name is called Papaya, and she can’t drink any water, though she is so thirsty. She has a desire to catch direct water drops from the rain. God, if you want to save my life, then give me direct water. I don’t want to drink water which is lying on the earth. So is the bhakta, seekers. I don’t want this material world, what is lying here. Everything, I want to have that nectar of immortality. That bird, the papaya, all the time. Running, looking in the sky, thirsty, her throat is drying, but don’t touch any water which is lying here. There is water on the earth, but siddhas have no appetite for this water. That is pure vairāgya, and when that vairāgya comes, you receive that holy wisdom, that holy nectar. Then what you do is multiply your portion of mercy, and you will give everyone this prasāda of wisdom, which will awaken in us that nectar. Deepā kahe nīta hotā jahāṁ satsaṅg, Deepā kahe nīta hotā jahāṁ satsaṅg. Mahāprabhujī said, "Where there is everyday satsaṅg, vaḍā bhāgī jan sohī pāve." The fortunate are they who can get this. When the bird is only 5 cm different in position, and the drop is falling down, sorry, but now she doesn’t want to drink what falls on earth. Many animals have such divine qualities, and we don’t understand. So, these were Mahāprabhujī’s divine words, which came out of his heart. That’s why the holy Gurujī tried to bring all bhaktas of Mahāprabhujī together and bring the message, but in many cases it’s difficult. One negative person comes and tells the blackmailing, negative words, and it begins to pollute. Everyone’s that means was the bad luck. So Holy Gurujī said to me, "Mahesh, I know who you are, and I know how your life was, from where you came from the dry soil. And to grow on that dry soil, it was not easy, Mahesh, but I am sure." That Mahāprabhujī is now with you, Devapurījī is protecting you and bringing this divine message to the world. These were the words of Śrī Devapurījī. Given that, some bhaktas I will send. And Holy Gurujī said, "I not only believe, I know it is you bring the." Message, but sure that when you throw the one kilo seeds, all will not grow. One fig fruit has so many seeds. The fig fruit is only the seeds. If all seeds will grow, the whole tree, the whole earth will be full of the figs. But those who are light of the divine... Their Mānasarovar is pure, then their own thoughts become the paramahaṅsa. That time the nectar, the divine words of the satsaṅg and Gurudev, will come. Work for the divine message of Gurudev. A little ant and a big elephant, it is only God who feeds them every day. Who are we that we can feed them? So it is a high time, all my dear bhaktas. You are the paramahaṅsa. Become paramahaṅsa, but to join paramahaṅsa, you have to take care of every feather to fly without movements, like when a crow or certain birds fly. They make pat, pat... Like this, and Paramahaṁsa stretches the wings and, like this, going smoothly in the sky because there are no other vṛttis to stop your soul somewhere, no obstacle, clear, clear sky. And Paramahaṁsa said, "If you want to see my flying, my flight, my flight." How I fly with the speed I fly, so that Paramahaṃsa said, "If you want to see my flight, please raise up the sky a little bit more. Can you high up the sky? That’s it. So otherwise, I will go down and will bring you into the mortal." Dirt and dirt will be in the dirt. So, this was yesterday night, I was thinking a lot about how we shall develop ourselves more, bring the love, unite, become parā, that manasarovara, and then you are in manasarovara, paramahaṁsa still living there. Immortal two, one couple or one pair, Paramahaṁsa and the Mānasarovar. Everyone cannot see them. They are there. So I wish that you all become that pure Paramahaṁsa in that Cidākāś of thine, and then we will meet in that Ākāśa, in ātmā to ātmā. Bless you all. Have a nice, warm day, and those who are going to sleep, sleep. Sleep as a Paramahaṁsa. Don’t sleep just as a lazy crocodile. I pray to Mā Prabhujī, Devapurījī, Alakpurījī, and Holī Gurujī that their amṛt words, the words of the nectar, This Paramahaṁsa will catch one day. This mother sheep will catch that drop one day. It will. We have to unite. We have to have that ocean of mercy within us so that Mother Pearl can survive there. With this, all the best.
