God-realisation

A spiritual discourse on the value of human life and the pursuit of inner divinity.

"Merely possessing a human body is not everything... We have everything within the human body: immense qualities, energies lying dormant—what we call hidden powers. But this requires spiritual education."

"Our beloved Gurudev used to say... 'O human, eating, drinking, and procreating—animals are also experts in this. What are you doing more than this?'"

The lecturer addresses a gathering, emphasizing that human life's purpose transcends basic existence to awaken dormant spiritual potential. He discusses the need for spiritual education, touches upon broad historical and linguistic connections between world cultures and ancient Vedic roots, and shares parables like that of Hanuman to illustrate divine presence within the heart. He introduces the concept of Sanjivani Vidya, a secret spiritual knowledge, stressing that purity and consistent practice are prerequisites to receiving it.

Oṁ asato mā sadgamaya, tamaso mā jyotirgamaya, mṛtyor mā amṛtaṁ gamaya. Oṁ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ. Sarveṣāṁ svastir bhavatu, sarveṣāṁ śāntir bhavatu, sarveṣāṁ maṅgalaṁ bhavatu, sarveṣāṁ pūrṇaṁ bhavatu. Lokaḥ samasthā sukhino bhavantu. Naḥaṁ Kartā, Prabhudeep Kartā, Mahāprabhudeep Kartā Hi Kevalam. Oṁ Tryambakaṁ Yajāmahe Sugandhiṁ Puṣṭivardhanam, Urvārukam Iva Bandhanān, Mṛtyor Mukṣīya Mā’mṛtāt. Oṁ Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ,... Deep Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān kī, Deveśvar Mahādev kī, Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandjī Bhagavān kī, Satya Sanātana Dharma kī blessed self, all dear ones. Human life is a very special life. But merely possessing a human body is not everything. One can see and feel that without ethical and spiritual education, humans seem to be losing their human essence. To have a body and not know the value of this body and this life is to be lost. We have everything within the human body: immense qualities, energies lying dormant—what we call hidden powers. But this requires spiritual education. It needs education imbued with compassion. Sabhi prāṇī merī ātmā hai. All beings are my ātmā, my own Self. And ātmā sohī paramātmā. The ātmā is the very representative of paramātmā itself. But this knowledge, which is given to humans, lies dormant. There is no inspiration. I have traveled around the world more than forty times, visiting many different places and people of various cultures, colors, and beliefs. Yet it seems the modern way of living, the modern approach to spirituality or religion, cannot grant us the knowledge of the hidden treasures within us. We have become too extroverted, living merely hand-to-mouth, nothing more. Here on this beautiful island, one can see many people have somehow lost motivation—both immigrants and natives. The concentration is only on what to eat, doing a little work, and sleeping. Khana, Pina, Bhogna. Our beloved Gurudev used to say a beautiful sentence: "Khana, Pina, Bhogna, Pashubhi, Param Shujan. O human, eating, drinking, and procreating—animals are also experts in this. What are you doing more than this?" We are utilizing only ten percent of our human quality, our human life. Ninety percent lies dormant. There has been a lack of motivation and guidance for people on the spiritual path. And some who believe in God in some way have no interest in developing themselves spiritually. The histories of Fiji, the Maoris, the aborigines of Australia, even of India, Africa, and Europe, are a branch of India. It is called Sindhubelī, Velī, Indubelī, and that mighty river Sarasvatī. The Saraswati River was huge, hundreds of kilometers wide, flowing from the Himalayas. Some people living on the east-south bank of the Saraswati later traveled west and a little north. The Vedas were given at that time. They were written in the Himalayas and preserved there. One family of these people—from them came the name. A British person gave the name 'Hindu'. Before, there was no such word. They were Aryas. 'Aryas' does not mean what you might think of when you remember Mr. Adolf Hitler. At least Hitler kept this word, so you understand. Adarśa Puruṣa, the ideal human: good quality, humbleness, kindness, spiritual ethic. This message comes down from the Himalayan roots with the Saraswati. The stream of the Saraswati was dividing. The Sindhu Valley, where all these people lived—in what is now Pakistan, Afghanistan, and towards Iran and Iraq—these people immigrated to different parts of the world. We call them Sindhi. Sindhi families are very spiritual people; they are business people, very rich, very kind. Many live in Hong Kong, Bangkok, India, and other countries. Others who came had a deep connection to the Parsi and Persian language, an old language coming from Sanskrit, very close to it. They worship the light. So, Ariyavrata—that land, the whole world, was called Ariyavrata then. Arya civilization began, and they preserved spirituality. It touched England, Ireland, where in ancient times they celebrated and worshipped the tattvas, the elements: water, fire, air, earth. Shan Puja, the beautiful Celtic religion. Later, the Romans came and things changed slowly, but the roots—the families in Western countries and North India, even connected to South India—were one. They had this spiritual education. Now in the West, they lost it somewhat, but not entirely. They lost and they gained something. After many long yugas, just now, about 2,000 years ago, Christianity developed, followed by Islam. The roots of Islam developed from what they call the Quran and Mohammed. Muhammad was a Hindu warrior, a Kṣatriya. He was so spiritual and had great visions of how one should believe in God. Exactly, if you compare, in the Vedas it is the same as in the Quran. The difference is the language, and language, unfortunately, creates conflicts. You can say 'master', you can say 'teacher', nobody thinks anything. But nowadays, if you say "guru," my God, "guru"—it's only a language problem. This is dust in their brain; such language divides. It was a mahā mantra of the British people. In India, they said the Indian spine is very strong; no one can break it. So they said, "Change the language, and it will break." Then, divide and rule. So the language changed. In the English language, we cannot express those words and that spirituality which you have in Sanskrit. English is a little dialect language of German. Yes, look in the Grantha. And the dialect language of the French, like shepherds—shepherds and cows, who were going with cows and horses. So, the French and German languages are very, very old. If you know German very well, it is beautiful. It touches your heart because German is very close to Sanskrit, very, very close. Especially then Max Müller came, and the British wanted him to translate the Vedas and Upaniṣads. When he read them, he said to the British, "We cannot change the truth of the Vedas as you like." He learned very good Sanskrit, and the best translation of the Vedas in English is by Max Müller. But they are not available. They are in some libraries, maybe in Germany or Chicago, because the Germans have been very close to Vedic culture. So in Europe, a more spiritual consciousness developed. But on these islands, they had no guide. They were limited by the ocean, with nowhere to go and connect. Many countries of Europe were under ice, snow, and glaciers. So you see how slowly, slowly, they came from Himalayan roots. I am not a historian. Maybe some historians are listening and say, "What is this Indian talking about?" Excuse me, please, if something is not proper, but the essence is that. What I want to convey is that until there is spiritual education for humans, humans are just spending time like other creatures. Khāna, Pīna, Bhogaṇa, Paśubhī, Parāvasya, Jāna. Just to eat and live—all creatures are doing that. Awake your heart. In the heart is God. Many thousands of years ago—they say millions—there was an incarnation of God Rāma. The real Rāma, because Hanumānjī is 151,000 years old, so it's a lot. Hanumānjī was a great devotee of Bhagavān Rāma. Bhagavān Rāma left, but Hanumānjī said, "He is in my heart." People said, "Everyone can say, 'God is in my heart.' Proof, proof." If God, Hanumānjī, Rām, and Sītā are in my heart... They said, "Keep quiet. In everyone's heart is God." He said, "No. In my heart is sitting my Lord." So Hanumanjī opened his chest. We give an injection here. We said, "Oh, a bhakta doesn't feel any pain where there is joy, where there is love. There is no pain, no discomfort." He opened his chest, and you see inside sitting Rāma and Sītā giving blessings. The chest was bleeding. He opened it wide like a doctor. Martin, in an operation, you know, he makes an operation, cuts, his ear... and expands. Thanks to God you are under anesthesia. All the ribs open, abide. It's like a cell—your cell is opening so that... But when he did this, it was all healed. Then people said, "Hanumanjī, we do believe that in your heart God is there." After many years, according to the Rāmāyaṇa, now you can see also in the Bible that Jesus is opening his holy heart and giving. But this holy heart is the heart of Dhanumañjī, Śiva’s heart. Dhanumañjī is your Śiva. So when real love is there, real bhakti is there, you feel the presence of your God, your beloved. For others, there are only obstacles in your thoughts and visions. Do not change your altars. Often I say, do not change the altar in your heart. Sometimes you read a nice book, someone writes well, and you say, "Oh, that was great," and you put it on the altar. Next time you see somebody else, "Oh, that was Divine Mother." Look, a given altar... okay, our Swāmījī is always there; we can put him to one side. So, altars do not change. The altar of your heart is eternal, immortal, everlasting. May the moon and sun change. May my earth turn upside down. My decision, my faith, and my belief will never. That one becomes God himself. We see beautiful humans, but they have everything. You have eating with you, but you have forgotten that in your backpack is... nice food. And for those who cannot have spiritual development, spirituality becomes very hard. In India, we say, "I put honey on your elbow. Okay, now you have honey on your elbow, and please lick it. Lick honey from..." Your elbow is very near to you. Similarly, some people think it's impossible to realize God, but there are techniques to lick your honey from your elbows. Yes, you have to practice yoga in daily life. That posture will come. That day you can taste the honey of immortality. So you are here, all bhaktas, on this beautiful island. You will live here in a beautiful atmosphere and vibration. We were walking together, me and Mr. Sadāśivam. We were talking about this. He said, "Swamijī, the vibration is different on this spot where we have a tent." Did you see? You must say yes, not move your head, because the microphone doesn't record your head movement. So these bhaktas, these people, they are all very pure souls. They have been here many, many years. It takes time to make a statue from beautiful marble stone, you know, or any stone. And when the statue is finished, we put it on the altar as a Kṛṣṇa or Mahāprabhujī or God. They have been practicing for many, many years: Kriya yoga, prānāyāms, mantras, many techniques of mantra, meditation, satsaṅg, bhajans. I have begun to introduce them to a kind of glimpse of the Sanjīvanī Vidyā. You will read in my book how Gurujī taught me the Sanjīvanī Vidyā, and it was very quick. Due to Gurujī’s blessing, Devapurījī and Mahāprabhujī are taking care all the time. Many times, things happen which can only happen if you know the Sanjīvanī Vidyā. But not utilizing it in an open way. Say, look, come buy mangoes, they are good. You can buy this, but mangoes are the sweetest ones. Know this. On the day I talk like this openly, the Sanjīvanī Vidyā will disappear. So, more or less, through these techniques of yoga and daily life, this Kriyā, Chakra Bhedana Kriyā, and then comes the Śvar Vidyā. Śvar Yoga is given by Śiva to Pārvatī. Shiva Sarvodā Vidyā and something Gurujī gave me. One person, a very close disciple of Gurujī, was very kind to me. He lived in Mumbai, from a teller family. He inspired me 85% to become a sādhu, a sanyāsī, because, "Swāmījī, what Gurujī gave you is so much. If you do not take this step, all will get lost." He knew that from all the Bhaktas of Mahāprabhujī, two knew Sanjīvanī Vidyā through Swara Yoga. One was Pukaraji, Darji, Teller, Mumbai, near from Nepal, and Gurujī. Whatever Gurujī did, he was taking care of his Swara—which nostrils should flow, Chandra or Sūrya or Sarasvatī—and there are different nāḍīs for Swara Yoga to utilize. I tried to teach them four years ago. For five years in Strilki Ashram in the Czech Republic, people didn't understand. "This is too complicated," I said. Nothing is easy; everything is complicated. But when you know, once the nāḍīs will work for you, then you will see the prāṇa. You can see your death, or you can see something that will be. But not everyone can get it. Only those bhaktas can get it, those souls which are very pure, completely white, that are ready to get any color. The purer you are... On a beautiful, clean, one-colored cloth, spots can come very easily. And when one spot is there, then you are not nirañjan, nirākār: nirañjanam, nitya bodhay chidānanda rūpayasi. So nirākār—then you have no form, though you are. You are so transparent. I show the jellyfish by snorkeling, like a beautiful katorī turned over, a beautiful cup, yeah? And they are going like this. I say to my body, "Let's go. I don't want this." A cooperation technique sucks here on the... by different cakras... so transparent as... The higher your spiritual development, the more careful you have to be. I have an orange dress. If a little subji is stuck here from my breakfast, you will not see my whole shirt; you will see only... Is something hanging on my beard or on this? And you can't digest, you can't resist? Or a rice is hanging in my beard? Everybody says, "Swamijī, what do you mean? You are tickling me so spot." When you get this spot, then Sanjīvanī Vidyā is dawning, so that bhaktas will get it automatically. You need not ask. I cannot give it because I can give from my heart to transfer, but the receiver is not there. Understand? Therefore, spiritual sādhanā, khaṇḍe kī dhār, is like the sharpness of a knife. You have to work on it. So, I hope you will get... you are learning. I am teaching you. Three years ago, I already taught one very nice vidyā of the Nabī Kamāl from... which Purījī also gave, and we designed some picture, but people gave up. Four years ago, or three years, in the Netherlands island and Mumbāpurī, we were in a beautiful bungalow on the beach side from Wellington, and therefore in the night it came and He gave me this one beautiful kriya, beautiful, it was new for me. It awoke in my consciousness that I knew it. We collected all the materials; about twenty people were ready to do it. Slowly, I gave them that, "You must promise yourself that you will practice." Many gave up, and many are doing. Their experience is so beautiful. Sometimes what they are explaining awakens my memory from past times. They are doing it in Wellington, Oakland. There are a few bhaktas. Every Thursday they are doing a beautiful ceremony that will lead them to the Sanjīvanī Vidyā, because Amṛta, the source of the Amṛta, is in the navel. That's it. From Bindu to the navel... when the navel from here is damaged, you are gone. When in Śrī Laṅkā, Bhagavān Rāma and they were on the battlefield, and finally... Rāvaṇa came, but nobody could kill him. Ten times his head was cut away, and again it came on his neck, and he was laughing, "Hey Ram, who are you? Come." After sunset, there were rules: nobody should fight. So Vibhīṣaṇa, the brother of Rāvaṇa—only Vibhīṣaṇa was the Devapuruṣa; the others were all Rākṣasas—said to God Rāma, "Rāma, Bhagavān Rāma, please don't waste time. You know your Vidyā, your Māyā, but if this night is gone, it will be impossible to win Rāvaṇa. Rāma, Bhagavān Rāma." Immortal words given by Śiva and by Brahmā are in his navel, and so Rāma targeted his arrow on the navel. At that time, Rāvaṇa said, "Śrī Rām." Otherwise, he never said Śrī Rām, always "Rāma, this, that," shouting at him. He realized, "Śrī Rām, only you could give me mokṣa. Many, many lives I spent in ignorance, like an asura—no sense, just eating, drinking, sleeping, doing. You make me, give me liberation." And for him, Rāma incarnated Sanjīvanī Vidyā. My dear, it is a blessing of the Gurudev. Anytime it can come to you, but you have to be ready. And that spot—never let any spot come on your... Chitta vṛttis nirākāra, nirañjan. And rañj is a spot. Ni means no. Spotless. So you are coming here. You experience beautiful islands, water. It is a very old, old, old mountain. Billions of years, maybe. But the karmas that have been here the last five days, what I am reaching with vibration, is different. But Dev Puruṣa has come. Dev Puruṣa has come and is changing. So, your being here—you are pure vegetarians, positive, good. Everybody has some kind of problems. That's why you are still living. It gives us life. But I am very happy that you came here. And I'm also very happy and thankful to Sadāśivam. It's a short name; they made it Sada. Sada means also simple. One word, Sada, means Sada Jeevan Uch Bichar: simple living and higher thinking. And Sadāśivam is Evershivam, Evershiva, a beautiful name. His roots are from South India, very spiritual families, very... but destiny is like this, many generations before. They had no chance to go back—too long a journey—so they lost. After two or three generations, you are lost. You don't remember the name of your fifth great-great-grandfather. So he is a spiritual soul. This has opened his other vision in his life, opened another treasure of that spirituality. I think he is surprised that it can be like this. When you go to the ocean and see the reefs and corals, "Oh my God, how many colors!" Then you see the beauty of the ocean, not just looking and saying, "Oh, how nice." But when you go deep and see the beauties, more and more goes into your heart. An endless ocean of love is in your heart, and all colorful beauties are there. So, thank you for coming and enjoy. You still have 24 hours. After 24 hours, we... We will say blessings to Fiji and hello to your home countries. And thank you, ladies. Thank you for your families. And we pray for good health and good education for your grandson. Oh, he liked me when he came. He just came and sat on my lap. He’s so beautiful, such a nice boy, and I pray for his bright future. So, my dear Sanjīvanī Vidyā, yes, yes, we will see. Wait and see. Om Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān Kī Jaya, Śrī Dev Puruṣa Mahādev Kī Jaya, Dharma Samrāṭ Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandjī Bhagavān.
