45th anniversary of Mahaprabhuji's Mahasamadhi

This gathering honors the divine lineage and incarnation of Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Mahāprabhujī. The spiritual tradition originates from Śiva, who manifested on Mount Kailāśa. During the churning of the ocean, Śiva consumed the poison and neutralized it through yogic kriyā, becoming Nīlakaṇṭha. From that lineage emerged the sage Alakpurījī, whose presence is associated with the river Alaknandā. Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Mahāprabhujī, an incarnation of Viṣṇu, was born to Candan Devījī after a divine vision. His birth was marked by a shower of flowers. This night is dedicated to devotional singing and remembrance. The mortal body of the Satguru rests here in samādhi, while his immortal essence is one with the universe. All incarnations manifest within this holy land.

"Give up the attachment to this little pond. Go and live in the endless ocean."

"O my Gurudev, bestow upon me devotion. Hold my hand and let me cross the ocean of ignorance."

Part 1: A Divine Gathering in Remembrance Oṃ śāntiḥ, śāntiḥ... Salutations to the cosmic light, the Lord of our hearts, omniscient and omnipresent. In the divine presence of the Supreme, to all dear brothers and sisters, good evening. To all the spiritual seekers, aspirants, practitioners of yoga and daily life, and blessed souls around the world—those who are with me now, at least through the webcast—I greet you. If you have a birthday, I wish you a happy birthday. The blessing is coming to you, especially from a very divine place, the holy country, Bhārat—India, Rajasthan, Oṃ Viśvadīp Gurukul, Swāmī Maheśvarānanda Āśram, Education and Research Center, Jāḍaṇ District, Pālī. You are observing the Samādhi place of our reverent, universally worshipped Satguru Dev, Hindu Dharma Samrāṭ Swami Śrī Madhavānandjī Mahārāj. This means his mortal body resides here, and his immortal soul, ātmā, is merged as one with the universe. Yet, his presence, his divine energy, his divine radiance is still reflected here in this place. Lucky are they, blessed are they, who can be here on this part of the planet. Many of you know, dear brothers and sisters, today is a very special day. It is the anniversary of the universally worshipped Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Mahāprabhujī of Baḍīkaṭṭū, District Nāgaur, Rajasthan, India. You all know about Mahāprabhujī, and you have read the Līlā Amṛt, the divine, glorious līlā, the divine glorious play, Miracles of Lord Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Mahāprabhujī, written by our Satguru Dev, Holy Gurujī, His Holiness Swāmī Madhavānandjī. India has given birth to numerous holy saints, whom you may call incarnations, may call the ṛṣis, or may call the saints, or you may call the holy men. Hardly will you see one village in India where a great holy saint has not incarnated. No village is left—not a small farmer’s village—where a divine soul was not incarnated. What can I tell you? The dignity, the spirituality, the divinity of this holy soil of India. All twenty-four incarnations took place in India. Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Mahāprabhujī was an incarnation of Lord Viṣṇu. Svayambhū, the Śiva, was the first in the creation of the entire universe. Even when there were no stars and no moons, in the śūnya kāśa—the void, dark space—within that cosmic consciousness, a divine resonance awoke. That is called Oṁ. Through that Aum, that Swayambhū Śiva manifested his cosmic form and created many stars, planets, and thousands of solar systems. All visible and invisible elements in the entire universe, in the endless universe, are known as the body of the Swayambhu, the Śiva. Śiva means consciousness. Śiva means liberation. Śiva means beauty. Śiva means truth: Satyam Śivam Sundaram. On this planet, on our mortal world, this beautiful planet, Śiva, Svayaṃbhū, manifested himself on the holy Mount Kailāśa in the Himalayas. From there, divine līlās happened. Brahmā and Viṣṇu, many sages and ṛṣis, all followed after Śiva. From Kailash, Śiva himself was residing in Satya Yuga during the time of Samudra Manthan, when the Asuras and Devas were churning the ocean. Out of that churning, fourteen ratnas came out, one of which was poison. The Devas did not know, and the Rakṣas or Asuras did not know what to do with the poison. If the poison was thrown into the ocean again, the life of the ocean would be destroyed; it would die. If they threw it on the earth, the earth would be destroyed. That poison came again in Kali Yuga in the form of atoms, in the form of pesticides, in the form of urea, as what you are putting in it. They went to Lord Śiva ultimately. Even Viṣṇu has to go to Śiva to solve problems, and Śiva will go to Viṣṇu too. Both are together. It is very hard to understand Śiva and Viṣṇu. Viṣṇu is praying to Śiva, and Śiva is praying to Viṣṇu. What a beautiful harmony, coordination, and mutual understanding. Two in one and one in two. At that time, Lord Śiva moved from Mount Kailāśa to a place between Kedārnāth and Badrināth. There is a very high hill peak where Śiva was residing, and there the devas approached Śiva and gave him that poison. Shiva said, "Give it to me," and he drank. The body is body, nature is nature. It does not matter who is who; whoever drinks the poison will die, it does not matter. But what Śiva did... He stopped the poison in his throat and performed yogic kriyā: ujjāyī prāṇāyāma, khichḍī mudrā, jālandhara bandha. These are the three kriyās in yoga which can deoxidize the body from poisons. And that is in yoga a very powerful kriyā. Jalandhara bandha, khichdi mudra, and ujjayi pranayama: swāsa, upara swāsa—inhalation, exhalation, ascending, descending breath, concentrated. And Śiva neutralized the poison. Now that mountain is known as Nīlakaṇṭha in the Himalayas. Between Kedarnath and Badrinath, the highest peak of the mountain is called Kyanamiska Nīlkaṇṭ, which comes from Lord Śiva. From that time, from Nīlakaṇṭha Mahādeva, after a long time, there appeared a great saint called Alakpurījī Mahārāj. Those people there call him Alakhā Purī. In the time of Alakha Purī, when the Pāṇḍavas went to the Svarga Sopāna after winning the battle of Mahābhārata at Kurukṣetra... The Pāṇḍavas went back to Hastināpur. They got their kingdom, and finally, all the five Pāṇḍavas and Kuntī—not Draupadī, sorry—they made their way to heaven. They went through the Satopatha. Draupadi and the four Pāṇḍavas, they all remained in the snow, in the glaciers. Itana thandi me wo barab ke saman hoge dhats. Only the Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira with his dog managed to come through. And he got the blessing of Alakpurījī, because they said without having the blessing of Alakpurījī, there is no way to Swarga there. And so, Alak Purījī was from that time living still in his Kāraṇa Śarīra, a transparent body, just like a fog. From heaven came a Siṅghāsan and took Yudhiṣṭhira, and Yudhiṣṭhira’s very loyal, obedient soul, his dog, also went. With the body, with these five elements, the mortal body went to heaven. That is called coming to heaven. The whole body went towards heaven from there. That Alakpurījī, the same Alakpurījī who is still awake in the Himalayas, and his cave is still there. But it is about 4,000 to 5,000 meters high, where there is only ice; there is no rock. Now, some of our disciples have gone there and have brought photographs from there. And there it is written on the cave: Devpurījī cave. So our tradition, our spiritual lineage, comes from Kailāsh to Nīlakaṇṭh and Satyapatha to Alakhapurījī. From there a river comes out; the name of that river is Alaknanda. Have you heard the name of the Alaknanda River? From here, the name of the Alaknandā River has come from our Alakhpurījī, Bhagavān. So the tradition of our Purī is so old. In the name of Alakhapurī, the river Alakṇandā, and the great sage Bhagīrath—some say Bhagavān Maharṣi Bhagīrath called Gaṅgā Māyā from the sky and asked Gaṅgā for the welfare of the living. The name of that river is Bhāgīratī. From here, Bhagīratī comes from Gaumukhī, and from here, Alaknandā comes, and both of them come together. Where? Devprayāg. Paryāg means to meet. Dev means Devatā. Where God’s, the meeting of the gods, is called Dev Prayāg. When Alak Nanda and Bhagirath Ṛṣi united, his disciple’s name was Gaṅgā. He had done a very good deed, so his name was Gaṅgā. Since then, his name has become Gaṅgā. Vahe Alagpuri jī ke haśrīvād se utnā ūñcā pahāṛoṁ kī kaṅdrāoṁ, himāloṁ kī kaṅdrāoṁ ke andar Devapurī jī, mahān tapasvī yogī, vahe Śiva śakti, Śiva kī śakti lekar ke, yānī Siddhi lekar ke, Alag Devapurī jī vāpas, idhar hamāre. Hindustān mein aur Rājasthān mein vāpas padhāre. Devpurījī had such miracles; he could go through rock. Devpurījī used to go through rock. He could walk on water. He used to take fire in his hand, tie it in his cloth, and take the dhūni with him. It used to rain heavily. On all sides of Devpurījī, ten, ten, fifteen, fifteen feet, not a single drop of water would fall. Devpurījī used to say, "Bābājī, water is raining in front of you. But why doesn’t it fall on you? I have told Indra to be careful. If you make a mistake on me, then you will be in trouble." Look, there are still such great men in our era who walked on the Nakhi Talab, who were of the British army. They were given a report; it is written in Līlāmṛta. Even today, Duleshwar Mahādev Mandir ke pās mein nakhe tālā pe banā huā Devapurījī ghāṭ. Us ghat ka naam hai, jabse Devapurījī ghat naam rakhāye. That is Devapurījī, our grand grand master. Similarly, one day on Śiva Rātri, the divine mother from Śrī Udaipurījī Mahārāj, Hari Vashni Gaon, District Nagod, Rajasthan, on Śivarātri, she sat down. Candan Devījī was her name, and she made a saṅkalpa: "Today I want to see Śiva, aaj mein... Shankar Bhagwan kā darśan karūṅgī, nahīṅ to upās kholūṅgī nahīṅ." And it is said that those who are devoted to the Lord, they go to Him only. Those who want to take more tests stay away from the Lord. God does not believe in false worship. God does not like the shine of the Lord. These days, the Lord is adorned and shining. Rādhā has spoiled Kṛṣṇa. In a night, Chandan Devī Jī had a vision. Shiva himself came and made a praṇām and said, "I will come to see Vishnu. He himself will incarnate as your son," and disappeared. At night, in Brahm-mūrti, the mother was sitting in meditation and saying—in meditation or in a dream—God Śiva came and said, "Mother, I will come soon and see you. From your own womb, now Lord Viṣṇu is coming in the form of Nārāyaṇa." She woke up in the morning and she began to imagine who came, who said Shiva was and Vishnu, I do not know what this was. She could not understand, but after nine months, the next day on Diwali—the day of Rāmasamā is called Diwali night—early morning, 4 o’clock, Mahāprabhujī incarnated. It is said that in Haribāsini, when the lamps of Diwali were lit in the evening—there was no electricity at that time; they used to light oil lamps—the dimmed lamps woke up at 4 o’clock, and there was a shower of flowers on the village. I didn’t see any flower in Haribāsani. I didn’t see any flower in Haribāsani. I didn’t see any flower in Haribāsani. I didn’t see any flower in Haribāsani. I didn’t see any flower in Haribāsani. I didn’t see any flower in Haribāsani. I didn’t see any flower in Haribāsani. I didn’t see any flower in Haribāsani. I didn’t see any flower in Haribāsani. I didn’t see any flower in Haribāsani. I didn’t see any flower in Haribāsani. Incarnated. Devapurījī came. The rest you can read in the Līlā Amṛt. After 135 years, he told Gurujī before that, "I will live on this and this and this day at that time." That was then, 1963, the 5th of December, in Brahmamuhūrta, on a Wednesday. According to the sun calendar—according to the Indian sun calendar, we are following this, called the moon calendar. So Indian days and dates are followed by the moon calendar. And the moon calendar was Poshkarshna Chaturthi, so Povad Chauth. Āj Povad Chauth hai, Mahāprabhujī. Isī din Brahmalīn hue the. So, in memory of our universally worshipped Bhagavān, Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Mahāprabhujī, we, all devotees, have gathered here to pay our homage and respect to our Lord Mahāprabhujī, and to him who brought the message of Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Mahāprabhujī to us: our beloved Holy Gurujī, His Holiness Swami Mādhavānandjī Mahārāj. Dear brothers and sisters, this night is dedicated to Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Mahāprabhujī. Many devotees you see here and up at the gallery are coming from different parts of the world, as well as from different parts of India. All devotees here will be singing beautiful bhajans the whole night. So you see, many, many great singers are sitting, many artists, kalākār artists. They are singing beautiful Rajasthani folk melodies; in folk songs and bhajans, you will enjoy. It is very hard to translate. Just now we were sitting and listening to a bhajan. It was in a very Rajasthani language: "To a frog, oh frog, give up the attachment to this little pond. Go and live in the endless ocean." So this world, māyā, is a small pond; Brahmaloka is the endless ocean. "Oh my soul, divine, give up this hope in this world. Except disappointment, suffering, confusion, pain, and troubles, nothing else is here. Come on, let’s go to the Paramananda forever and ever." Here sitting is our Maintī Jī, Śrī Kailāś Purī Jī of village Khardi, district Pālī, Rājasthān. He will sing such nice Prabhāti morning bhajans. You will enjoy. I suggest you do not sleep tonight. Indian time, 2:30, he will begin—2:30 or 3 o’clock—and in Europe it is only 8 or 9 o’clock. You are a lucky one; you will enjoy the singing. And here, sitting very classical—not only the false, but classical. They are all very nice artists sitting with beautiful instruments, and they are going to sing a beautiful devotional song: "O my Gurudev, O Lord, Giver, bestow upon me the devotion. If you want to give me, O Giver, then give me bhakti, devotion. No money, no wife, no husband, no children, no wealth—all I can get, I will, I can do it. But bhakti, from where to get? My Lord, guru bhakti. In all the bhakti, best devotion, but bhakti is declared guru bhakti. In all different knowledges, only the... Self-realization is the best, highest knowledge. O my Lord of the Lords, many, many lives I repeat to come on this mortal world. I will never forget you, my Lord. Please bestow thy grace on me, your merciful look on me. Just let me feel thy divinity. All this material love and touch, and a touch—all you are in this. All in this dirtiness of this māyā world, but how to come? My Gurudev, hold my hand. Hold my Gurudev, my hand, and let me cross the ocean of ignorance." Today, my dear brothers and sisters, enjoy. And if there is some bhajan, I will translate, or I will sit here, or I may not be here, but all these beautiful people will be. Here they are singing, and you will also be with them, and we will try to record that one day so you can get a record. I bless you all. Today is a day dedicated to the yoga of devotion, bhakti yoga. And to our beloved Mahāprabhujī, in his memory, on his 45th anniversary. So I welcome you and thank you, and all those who are here from different worlds, different parts of the world. You have a vision, you have Iraq’s money up, Kāśī, Agra, Hey, or Jo, Amritsar, Sath, maybe Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta, of which, which... Wicked do say, "Koni, koni may America Valley, Canada Valley, New Zealand Valley, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Iraq," wherever you are listening to my voice and watching me with the webcast, I would like to send my best wishes to all of you on my behalf.
