Turn Kaliyuga into Satyayuga

A spiritual discourse on dharma, yoga, and conscious living.

"Life is not a question of what we do, what we have, what we acquire, but a state of completion, a state of contentment."

"The presence of dharma on this earth has brought duality and fighting: anger, hate, jealousy."

The speaker delivers a wide-ranging talk, using parables and teachings to explore the nature of life as a play of duality and the path of dharma. He discusses the obstacles of ego and illusion, the universal principles of yoga for health and harmony, and the urgent need for ethical and spiritual education for children to foster environmental care, family unity, and peace. The talk concludes with an emphasis on yoga as a practical science for a harmonious life.

Pranam Vishwagurujī, dear friends. Life itself is an obligation, and it seems life is also a gamble. One should learn to gamble in this life intelligently and with courage. "Intelligently" does not mean rationally, but with a type of awareness, alertness, and with the cream of the buddhi, with the viveka. Swamiji today mentioned in the morning the difficulties we all face with our worries, cintā. It seems cintā is a part of everyone's life to a certain extent—sometimes more, sometimes less. We just move with the waves. Life itself is a kind of play box. We all like to play, and we like to get lost in the game—the game of happiness and unhappiness, of joy and sorrow, and so on. Sometimes we awaken a little bit; we get glimpses of that when we get tired, when we feel exhausted, when we feel down about the circumstances in life. Nature provided a very, very kind trick so that we feel always busy with ourselves, with our problems, with our plans, with our ambitions. And so we try to sail through life. We are all here in a certain way because we practice yoga, and we try to find out what is yoga. And yoga gives an answer for all the questions in life. When we go through the different stages of life, we are busy. As a mother who nourishes the child, the child needs attention and care. Then it starts to play with other children; it sits in the sandbox. The next step is school, another sandbox. Adolescence, then the middle of life, another sandbox. And in older age, we think we can retire and then we are free to do what we want to do. There was a man, a big businessman, wandering the road. Sitting beside the road was a man, simply dressed and playing his flute. The businessman had somehow taken pity on him. He was thinking, "What a poor man sitting there, having nothing, just playing the flute." And he approached him. He said, "What are you sitting here? Come on, come with me. I give you a job in my factory." The man said, "A job in your factory? For what?" Then he said, "Yes, that you can earn some money and you can buy nice clothes and have a good life." The flute player said, "For what?" "Well, then you can travel around, and you can have a nice wife and have children and a family." The flute player said, "For what?" The man said, "Yes, you can be happy in your life, and then you can proceed further and save money for your pension." The flute player said, "For what?" And the man said, "Yes, in your pension, you can do what you want, and you are free." And the flute player said, "What do you think I am now, already?" So life is not a question of what we do, what we have, what we acquire, but a state of completion, a state of contentment. And this we can only reach when we observe our own dharma, when we understand our own dharma. And this dharma is much connected, not only to our own individual destiny, but it is a universal principle. It is the principle to follow the truth and to be truthful to one's own self in many or all aspects of life. Truthfulness means that our circle of what we feel, what we think, what we do, and how we act has to be in harmony. And if the circle is not in completion, not in harmony, we cannot be truthful. A man of dharma, a saint who is living 100% his dharma, is called a Dharmarāja. In the story of the Mahābhārata, we know Yudhiṣṭhira; he was called Dharmarāja. The man of Dharma has two main values. One is, he always stays true to his word; he keeps his word. And the other one, he always is in favor of the weak, of the poor, of those who suffer and who struggle in life. All our principles of life are to gain some happiness out of it. Whatever we do, we try to achieve happiness. That is the principle, the dualism of joy, of happiness and pain. As you know by yourself, how many times in life we try for happiness, and it turns out to be painful. But at the same time, many times, when we do things that are in the beginning painful, a struggle, that need discipline, they turn out later to be very joyful. And the strive for happiness and joy is fueled by the maybe conscious or unconscious strive to be not only happy, but to be blissful. All our actions and reactions point to that oneness, to that Saccidānanda, what we are looking for. Všechno naše úsilí ve skutečnosti směřuje k tomu jedinému, sacchidānandě, k tomu, co hledáme. Ale kvůli našim karmám, kvůli našemu osudu, kvůli našemu omezení, našeho chápání, nejsme schopni rozpoznat, protože to vyžaduje čas, potřebuje úsilí, potřebuje disciplínu, jen abychom získali letmý pohled na to, na naši pravou přirozenost. But to achieve this, we have to live according to certain laws, and if we go against the law, we will suffer; we will have pain. Life itself we cannot imagine without pain, but equally not without joy. And suffering is itself just an option. That suffering comes out of our inability to discriminate, to have a full understanding of all our actions, of the nature of our mind, of our thoughts and of our feelings. And as long as we don't get that glimpse, we struggle. There are a lot of obstacles on the way, on the spiritual path. And the main obstacle is that we live in that illusion that we say, "Me, mine, and not mine." That is the main obstacle, that what we call Ahaṅkāra, that is the identification of "I am that," and with that "I am that" comes "I like" and "I dislike." It does not matter if you say "I like it" or "I dislike," both have the same effect. But we prefer to like something because it gives us pleasure, and in that pleasure we want to repeat it, and with that pleasure, with that repetition, we drive our car to that attachment. That's like a chewing gum, which we again and again chew and then want to spit out. So the normal man, he's trying to pull it out of his mouth and then throw it somewhere. It doesn't work. Try it. And then you stick it to a wall, but still it follows you, and so on. And with that dislike, the rejection, it is equally... We think when we don't like something or we reject something, then it is not with us. It equally follows us. That is also yoga, and that is very clearly written in Patañjali's Yoga Sūtras. It is that discrimination which we have to develop through our practice, through our tapasyā, through our studies, through our meditation. And only with this discrimination, with the viveka, we can progress, because we can see then clearly what is real and what is unreal, what actually is that reality behind all that screen, what we so much like to see, all the cinemas. There was a time when there was still a country where people said, "That's really a country where the Dharma is practiced and where the traditions are kept." And that country was, or maybe is still, called Bhutan. The king of Bhutan is a very wise man, so he tried to develop his country, but not at once that he opened the doors, but very slowly, and he allowed only a certain number of tourists to come per year. On se snažil tu zemi rozvíjet, ale moudrým způsobem, ne otevřít ji hned, ale dovoloval tam vstup jenom určitému množství turistů za rok. So not to destroy their heritage, to avoid the destruction of their cultural and spiritual heritage. So one reporter went to the country, and then he saw that there were a lot of TVs there, and the great stations, BBC, were already in their country. So he asked one monk, "What do you think about it? Will you not destroy your country?" The monk was just laughing and said, "How can the illusion of illusion touch us?" So we often talk about illusion, about māyā, about that mystical part of the world which we take as so much of reality. But we always have to think about it, that as long as we live in this world, we have to follow certain rules and regulations. We have to walk a path that is sometimes easy to walk, sometimes thorny. And it is the question of our own awareness, our ability to see, to recognize, and to understand. And this way is not something that we have to walk alone, but there is always somebody who walks with us. Maybe we don't see, maybe we don't feel, and especially in the difficult times. There was a disciple who came to his guru and said, "Master, you always say that you are with me, and I had just such a difficult time, and then when I walked through there, I could see only my own footsteps. There was nobody else." The master was just smiling at him, and he told, "My dear, you are mistaken. That's not your footsteps. I was walking with you, and I was carrying you on my shoulders." So that is also part of reality. We can understand, we can realize as much as we want. As long as we don't understand our own nature, our own abilities, and our own qualities, we are still walking on the path, and it is very daunting. It can be very tough, and as long as we walk, we feel the pain. We feel the likes and dislikes. We prefer, and we reject. Until we come to the point that this is just part of the whole game, it's just part of the illusion. It's a world of duality, and we have to acknowledge that, and we have to see that we can sail through there in the most proper way. Thank you so much. That was the situation, but Premanānjī solved it. Yes. Well, everything is beautiful. We are standing on a very critical border. And this can be very dangerous for the whole world. We are talking about, or I am talking about, above all cultures and religions. The situation which we have is already unbearable. Whom to blame? Only our parents. And how will it develop if this cancer disease, so-called social disease? It will be unbearable. Can we still do something? Yes. Still not too late, and that is: give the proper education to the children. Still, your children love you. And whatever you tell, they listen carefully, so the education—ethical and spiritual education. In the beginning, we should learn about life on this earth. How important is the design of the earth? We destroy and destroy the mountains because we want to build highways. Highways from here to Prague ask how many mountains were destroyed to get the gravel. So if we think around the whole world, how many million square kilometers of highways are already lying on the earth? It destroyed the earth, a lot of forest, mountains, and the water. The most pollution is going into the water through the highways. How many rubbers, tires, and oils are polluting? No wonder there is a disaster with the weather. We should learn to replace something. If you cut one tree, then you should replace three trees, four trees. If we destroy the mountains, if we can't create the stones, at least we should try to replace that height and the earth there so that trees can grow there. Our children love the animals. Almost every child has toys with animals, and how much they love them. So children don't want to kill animals. No child would be happy. But unfortunately, it's killed animals in hidden forms. And we know what future is waiting. Bees are disappearing. If we do not protect the environment, then our grandchildren will only see bees from now on, which have been taken as videos, films. It will not take long for the bees to disappear. It is buried at the end. No scientist can create such honey as bees can produce. Butterflies, other bugs, they are all very important for our ecology. You will not get any more fruits if there are no bees, no wasps, no butterflies. Who will bring this pollen from one flower to another flower? How many thousands of cherries will come on our tree here in summer? Cherries are thanks to these creatures. How many cancers and diseases have come now? Many, many diseases, and this is because of the pesticide, because of the manipulation in the dairy production. And our children don't know. Even we don't know. So, someone told me in Australia, it was written in the newspaper, that in white bread they put the powder of chicken feathers to make it very soft, and with late heat it becomes a good toast. Is this necessary? So we have to become aware of our life. So we are suffering from this, and future generations will suffer very much. This technology, this kind of education, this kind of factories and companies, is separating the humans and splitting the families. Do we need so much money? And who is getting this money? You are working so hard, still there is no money. Do we need so much protection? No. Therefore, we have to turn back to nature. Don't buy too many clothes. Don't run behind fashion. Maybe next year, fashion orange cloth. And especially our dear ladies, their nails are orange. Eyebrows are orange. Hair is orange. Dresses are orange. A handbag is orange, the high-heeled shoes are orange, and the shopping is orange. Everything is orange, and next year after that, it's black. So what will you do with this cloth? So buy that cloth which color you like, a healthy material, and wear it till it becomes very old. Fashion has made humans crazy, so have a spiritual fashion, an ethic fashion. Understand, our human brothers and sisters. Try to learn forgiveness, reconciliation, and simpleness. Create in your children's consciousness this kind of education. Everyone is running behind technology. Now you know how many computer engineers are in the world. Now they can't get a job. How many doctors are there? They can't get a job, and no doctor wants to go to the village. They all want to be in a big city. They can get a job in the countryside. But they don't want to. So how many doctors are without a job? How many engineers? So it is one-sided knowledge; profession is not good. So as I said, we shall turn Kali Yuga into the Satya Yuga through our children. We should give them all kinds of education: engineering, doctoring, farming, any profession. But first, teach them love and respect; love all creatures, respect all families. And don't go far away from your family, maximum 100 kilometers far, to find a job. You know how happy any young kids are who are married, and their wife is pregnant? How happy you are, looking forward to having a child. You are building a house or a flat, everything for your child. And all your earned money is paid for the education. Then one child is in Japan. One child is in Africa, and one child is in India. The other child is in Mexico, and again you are alone. Suddenly, father died. It takes time to come here. Or you have no holidays. What a family! What does a family mean? Close together, so find a job near your family. Create again the family love and educate the children in such a way that they have thinking of love, peace, respect, protection, and loving the animals, respecting humans. This we shall begin now. Yoga is not developed as a realism. Because religion is completely misunderstood now in the world. So-called religion is not what God wanted. Religion is only the dharma, the dharma of the humans, what Premānenjī was telling us. Dharma is, for example, you can hear sound through your ear. So this is the dharma of the ear, and if you can't hear anything, then it's gone. The dharma of the eyes is that we can see. The dharma of the heart is that all the time the heart is beating, pumping. How old we are and how many years our heart is beating. In one minute, the heart is pumping five liters of blood. In one minute, that circulation comes back to the heart. So this is the dharma of the heart. The function of the kidney, the function of the liver, the function of the spinal column, the joints, our voice. This is called Sanātana. So you cannot avoid the Sanātana Dharma. Sanatana Dharma is that a seed sprouts and grows. When the time comes, the blossom comes, the fruits come, and the dharma of that one seed follows the dharma, creating again the same quality of the seed. As good as you are, you create and educate your children. Otherwise, they are lost. The presence of dharma on this earth has brought duality and fighting: anger, hate, jealousy. There are some people who try so hard to change others into their dharma. Billions of dollars they are spending to change your dharma. For what? This is your greed. This is your ego, and this is the cause of wars in the world. If we all understand there is only one God, doesn't matter how you call the name. Name. We all humans will live like brothers and sisters. So now the children need this education. Yoga is a science of body, mind, and soul. It creates harmony of the body, mind, and soul. But many people think yoga is a religion, and it's against my religion, so I will not practice. What ignorance? Health, which gives you good health, you deny this. Can there be ignorance greater than this? Every religion has a yoga. When you see the Muslims, when they do their prayer, look how many postures they are doing. And when they wash their hands, washing like this. It is scientific, because the blood circulation should go towards the heart. Others wash like this, but they will wash it like this. Then they will put their one cloth, āsan, to do the namāz, prayer, will stand, think of Allāh, and then bend forward and support the hands on the thighs, like doing the posture of the nauli. Yes, this is a posture which makes the spine straight. The spinal column releases the tension of the stomach muscles, and the lungs and the diaphragm are relaxed. Then it goes on the knees, and then it goes down. Because the blood circulation towards the head brings harmony when it's very hot in the desert, so these postures, all that they do, is not have the body completely folded, but there is air moving between. So these are the yoga postures. So where is the problem? The problem is the word "religion," and this is creating the problems. In Christianity also, when they go, they go down and stand on their knees. Because you are old, there is a bench; you put the knees and head like this or like that. These are all postures. So why should you not practice yoga? Well, it is your choice. Good health we all need, so it doesn't matter which religion you believe; it's good. Someone is coming from Koprivnice, another is coming from Brno, and a second is coming from Kyiv. Now, the person who is coming from Kopřivnice should and will go home to Kopřivnice. And you tell him, "Go to Brno." He says, "No, I don't want to go to Brno. I go to Kopřivnice," so this is a home feeling. It's good. Which God you believe in is good. Do your path, do your prayer, but good things you should accept. Very soon, it will come that all yogīs eat good food. So when you eat good food, you are a yogī. Then they will all eat only junk food. Because you don't want to be ugly. Now they eat the junk food, so thanks to God, the young generation realized their health and the environment. Love for animals. Numerous vegan restaurants are open. And the color of their face changed to a healthy color. So get as many children as you can, no problem, but give them proper education, spiritual and ethical, so that yoga in daily life, which is one of the best neutral paths, that is the yoga. The Prime Minister of India worked hard. He himself is practicing yoga every day. Though he is very busy, in the morning he has yoga time. And he has talked to the whole world to acknowledge the International Day of Yoga, the 21st of June. And you can't imagine, in the whole world, all yoga practitioners got so much happiness, pride, and motivation, because people were not happy if somebody was practicing yoga. So not millions, but billions of people. Do you know how many people in the world practice yoga? More than any other religion's members, that's it. But they did not understand; they were not supported. And the Prime Minister said he sent a message to all his devotees around the world. On this day, everyone should get free yoga teaching. And the simple exercises that everyone can practice are a benefit for all. Don't practice commercial and Hollywood exercises. So, directly or indirectly, he meant yoga in daily life. Simple. There is also one great yogī. You know him. We are good friends. He is called Rāmdevjī, and Rāmdevjī also has very simple exercises, a simple explanation. He doesn't give promises, and the good thing is what I see in him. The difference between him and me, of course, must be different. I can't be him, and he can't be me. What Pṛemānand said? I am ātmā. So I am. Who is that "I"? So Ramdevī gets up at three o'clock in the morning. Doesn't matter, even if he goes to sleep at one o'clock. Often he takes me into his bedroom, and on his bed there are hundreds of books. So he said he utilizes his bed for keeping his books. On the floor he has a very thin mat. He said, "Here I am sleeping, Swamiji." And a little cloth he folded as a pillow, and at three o'clock he gets up to do his personal exercises. At four o'clock he is on the stage; winter or summer, he is standing there and doing exercises, and thousands of people are sitting there. He is talking and doing the nauli. All this is very practical. And so, for one and a half hours, he practices and demonstrates himself. So when I meet him, I said, "Well, we have competition, but Ram Denjee, you are the winner." He said, "No, no, you are a winner. These are friends." So he awoke the awareness in everyone's consciousness. People who did not want to practice yoga, and had high positions in government or some high position, they begin to practice and they benefit with good health. And in his class come all different religions. He said, "Practice." Practice for your health. Practice. The whole country should be healthy and well. Due to him, many people again begin to practice yoga. And in our part of the world, for the last 43 years, we have been teaching yoga in daily life, tirelessly. People were asking, "We should change this, and we should change that." But we remain on our yoga in daily life. Keep discipline and practice these simple but effective, powerful exercises. To be healthy physically, mentally, socially. So, time has come to turn the world into the Satya Yoga, that is a yoga. So yoga and yoga is very near. It was yoga, Yugoslavia. So we turned Yugoslavia into the Yogaslavia. How many thousands, millions of people of ex-Yugoslavia are practicing yoga in daily life? So let's turn Kali Yuga into the Satya Yuga. Keep the quality, don't change the rhythm, the technique, or don't manipulate some different postures. That is yoga. So concentrate, please, on the youth. It is very important: on the right way, the good way, fanatic, healthy, and ethical principles. Then we will see that this is also a practice of the Ātmanubhūti. What is the dharma? What is religion? It is not only prayers and meditation. Religion is a good life, a healthy life, a comfortable life, a long life, a beautiful life, a harmonious life, a peaceful life. That is a real life, called yoga in daily life. That's it. So, wish you all the best, and tomorrow we will come again. Tomorrow morning, you will have a lecture from 9:00 to 9:30 from Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara Vivekānandajī, Vivek Purī, and then other subjects will come. Wish you all the best, and concentrate, please, on your children. Give them good education, a healthy way of life, and a healthy way of thinking. And these young children, young ladies and gents, they are strong enough to get a few children more. Yes. Look, since I've been talking for the last five years, get children. How many children have I got? I feel proud, grandfather. Yes.
