Concentrate all your energy on your aim

A spiritual discourse on transforming the modern age through family, education, and spiritual practice.

"Only our new generation can bring this about. But the new generation depends on you. Children are the culture of tomorrow; children are the future."

"Religion does not need us; we need religion. Without religion, humans will become again like wild animals in the forest."

Mahāmaṇḍaleśvar Swāmī Vivekpūrī delivers a wide-ranging talk on elevating society from Kali Yuga to Satya Yuga. He emphasizes the critical role of spiritual education, the sanctity of family—including care for the elderly—and the unifying principle of "Vāsudeva kuṭumbakam" (the world is one family). He critiques modern materialism, explains the effects of mantra on the five kośas (sheaths), and shares a parable about a disciple's research that led to the creation of Āyurveda, illustrating that all of creation has purpose.

Mahāmaṇḍaleśvar Swāmī Vivekpūrī was speaking about happiness, modern times, and the importance of family—creating families, improving families, and uniting families. This is very important. I have said that we shall turn Kali Yuga into Satya Yuga. Only our new generation can bring this about. But the new generation depends on you. Children are the culture of tomorrow; children are the future. In whichever direction the children go, in that direction goes the whole world. We have had enough of this modern kind of education. Spiritual and ethical principles must enter the education system. Modern education is pushing humans day by day away from spirituality, or so-called religion. Religion does not need us; we need religion. Without religion, humans will become again like wild animals in the forest. We need the spiritual injections described in the holy books. No holy book speaks something negative. All speak about the high value of human life and about God, love, peace, and harmony. But when one attacks another religion, then of course there is a reaction. If someone attacks your house, it does not matter how good your neighbor is; you will be angry with the neighbor. So now, politics takes the support of religion, using the emotional waves inside people. And at the same time, they say religion is not good. Unfortunately, some religions are changing as politics is changing. It should not change. The sun does not change. The moon does not change. All elements do not change. Fire is fire. If the fire were to change into something cool, you would suffer. If the sun did not shine, everything would die. So, when these principles, these elements, the universe does not change, then why should we change? Because religion represents the universe. Religion represents the best quality of the universe, and it develops the best human qualities. Without spiritual education, humans are like animals. Human beings begin to kill humans and eat humans. In many countries, many islands, you know, they were eating people. But when they came to know about civilization and spirituality, they realized what that was. So now, more or less, they have stopped eating humans. But the so-called business, the economy, is now eating the humans. It sucks all the energy out. A very healthy brain, mind, and healthy person becomes empty. When the lemon juice is taken out, they throw the rest away. So now the company says to the old, "We don't need you." They lose their job. So this is how human eats human. The human kills the human—not physically, but mentally, psychically, emotionally, ethically, spiritually. Out of fear of existence, we feel we can't do anything. So we have to come back to respecting and adoring our parents and grandparents, the old people. It is said the best holy place, a holy pilgrimage, and service to God is to serve the old people. To see your old grandmother and grandfather is divine. They give you blessings. It is our duty to give them a good life. They gave us a good life; they took care of everything. And we neglect them? This reflects society, politics, and business people. When they deny and neglect the old people, it means we destroy or kill the culture. We have to acknowledge the knowledge of the old people. Therefore, we need a family. Study and remain near your family. A hundred kilometers is okay, no problem. Nowadays, there is good transportation. You can be there anytime they need you, in a few hours. So do not contact your grandparents only on birthdays, Christmas, New Year, Holi, and Diwali—just to say hello, all the best, how are you, take care, please, okay, bye-bye, see you again, I will call you when I have time. We all try to concentrate very much on the youth in politics, but they should also know that old people have a voice for the world. We should concentrate and support the youth for education, for the protection of our culture and our nation, and to maintain peace and harmony with neighboring countries. If you think that Jesus said, "Love your neighbor," then our neighbor is the country. So, how much do you love your neighbor country? And how much do they love their neighbor country? In the Vedas and in India we used to say, "Vāsudeva kuṭumbakam"—the whole world is the family of one God. We are one family on this earth as humans. There is only one human, not two kinds of humans. A human is a human. It does not matter from which country, which gender, or whether one has studied or not. We do not see the person's education and intellectual abilities. We value the human. We value the human's knowledge. We value the human's spirituality. That will bring peace, harmony, brotherhood, understanding, and love in the world, and that will turn Kali Yuga again into the Satya Yuga. You see, the biggest problem in the world is that all seeds of the grass, of the fruits, vegetables, everything is manipulated. We are destroying so many healthy and natural seeds that God has created on this earth. A disciple comes to the master and asks, "Master, please, can you accept me as your disciple?" That time, it was not easy to be accepted as a disciple. Nowadays, there are masters who say, "Come to me, I will accept you as a disciple. I want to be your master. Organize a retreat for getting a mantra." That is not reality. Another problem is that in this Kali Yuga, our life span is too short. When you are 25 or 30, be 100% sure that is the middle of your life. Thirty years means 60 years, so 30 years up and 30 years down. The rest of life is only burden, hospitals, illness. When we were little, we had two places: the mother and the cradle—mother's lap or cradle. We were wandering between cradle and mother, to mother to drink milk, to the cradle to rest. Thanks to God, we grow. Now it is home to school, and home—oh God, school and home, school and home. Good, we have studied, finally finished. Then homework, homework, and homework, where all your energy is sucked away. Luckily, finally, you retire. Now: home, hospital, home, hospital, home. And then again begins: home, grave, home, grave, home, grave. But that's not enough. Then birth and death, birth and death. Therefore, we have to come to that reality, to realize that knowledge. That is what humans are struggling with, very much. So finally, we have to find the truth which is within us. That Brahma, Satya, Jagat, Mithyā. Satyam is the truth. All that we have done is temporary, good or bad, wise or stupid. Both will change, but finally, it is that Brahman, Brahman Satya, and that goes to the Śiva consciousness that is eternal. Again, that is the beauty of life, if we can achieve it. Sundara Satyam Śivam Sundara Satyam Śivam... When we chant the mantras—such mantras, every mantra is a good mantra—then all our five kośas are affected: Annamaya kośa, the body of nourishment; Prāṇamaya kośa, the body of the prāṇas; Manomaya kośa, the body of the mind, the mental body; Vijñānamaya kośa, the body of knowledge; and Ānandamaya kośa, the causal body, the body of the cause. Ānanda: there are two kinds of ānanda. One ānanda is called brahmānanda. That is the real ānanda. The other ānanda is only material contentment, which can never be fulfilled, like we spoke about food. The Creator has given us something which does not let us only rest. So Agnidev, the fire, entered our body as the digestive fire, and for that we have to eat. You know that here, one technology was developed long ago. Now they changed it a little bit, easier or different, but the purpose is the same. That was what you call the chimney, to warm the room. You put the wood inside. You put it in, and you put it in, and it comes warm and warm. When you do not put any more in, there is no warmth. Similarly, God made this Manipūra chakra, the solar plexus, the solar, the sun. This is the sun system, heat; it produces heat so that our whole body has a good temperature. If you do not take care, then the chimney is unbalanced. So either it becomes too hot or too cold. The same technology is our central heating. All this, especially the central heating, which is spread with pipes in the whole building, is like our nervous system in the whole body, where the blood is supplied and it brings the warmth, like floor heating. If we do not have good circulation in our feet and our foot soles, it means they will become very cold. So when your feet are always cold, then you should repair them. Check the floor heating; there must be something wrong. So, all these kośas, the bodies, all have a function which we all know very well—either the heart, the kidneys, the liver, the digestive system, brain, gallbladder, the glands. Everything is perfect. So when we chant Oṁ or a mantra, it creates vibration, and that vibration spreads into all five bodies. The negative energy, or dead cells in the body, is reduced from the body, rejected. We know the cells are dying every second in the body, and they are purified through our prāṇa: prāṇa and apāna, samāna, vyāna, udāna. Prāṇas and upaprāṇas—these are the ten prāṇas in the body. These fine prāṇa, upaprāṇas, are especially responsible for our eyesight, hearing, and heartbeat. So these prāṇas are very important. Practice yoga and prāṇāyāma to keep the body updated. It is for our health. Not that prāṇāyāma will bring God in front of you. Some people think yoga is a religious teaching. They do not understand what yoga is. But if you see all yogic principles, the rules and regulations, you will see them exactly in different religions. So yoga is not a part of any religion. All religions are a part of yoga. Yoga is the father of all religions. But now it is a grandfather, wandering between the hospital and the home, very soon. But that grandfather did some special sādhanā, and that is called a very good sādhanā. I hope you could do this too. Me too. But one day when you will be grown up—all who are sitting here, orange, green, yellow—you are like seedlings, sprouts, very little seedlings. When you become stronger, blossoming and fruit-giving, then I will go to my sādhanā. That is it, so that I come back again. I am not gone. Do not worry. Still a long, long time. Torturing means training, or better to say, tweening—very fine tween. That is the aim of yoga and yogīs, and that is called Kāya Kalpa. So that disciple came to the master and said, "Master, can I accept you as my master? Please, can you bless me?" The master said, "Okay. I give you one duty: bring me any kind of plant, herb, grass, or tree which has no use at all—any, maybe very tiny, even seaweed, or this other kind of weed, or what is on the water, comes to be sleepy. What do you call that? Algae. Algae. No, it is also weed, no? So bring me what is not useful." If you really love and would like to have and achieve, then you will do your very best. You have to concentrate, no other interest—100% of your energy, your power dedicated to that aim, not letting any time compromise. There is no compromise in quality, in knowledge, in spirituality. No compromise, and no tolerance. Yes, tolerance means weakness. Okay, yes. The Austrians, they are very good people, like all of you, every country may be, but I have more experience with Austrians. Austrian police, when you drive, unfortunately, it is horrible. This should be stopped. Now they have cameras and it automatically goes to the computer, so good policemen also cannot do anything. He stops the car and says, "You were driving 15 kilometers too quickly, you did not respect the traffic rules, and you have to pay this much." The driver says, "Okay, sorry." The policeman says, "Yes, but I cannot do it. It is already in the central computer. If I compromise, I lose my job." So in such a case, I do not like this computer. Otherwise, before, when there were no computers and cameras, they used to say, "OK, take care for next time. I close my eyes." It means tolerance, respect, with your own risk. But now our risk is not with us, limited. Our risk is already on some disk. It is fixed in the data. You call it data, and we write the same word, data. And dāna means giver, forgiveness, giving everything, blessings. We will call Mahāprabhujī Datta. Mahāprabhujī, we can say that he is Datta. The dhātā, the giver, Mahāprabhujī. Janam janam kā dārī dharme te. It removes all our poorness from past life. Mahā dhanam deytā viṣāl. He gives so much wealth to us, endless wealth. So, this kind of technology is dry. The computer does not tell us, "I am sorry." But the human can say, "I am sorry." So we rely on computers, not on humans. The master wanted to test that disciple: "Bring me that vegetation, plant, anything, which is not useful for anything." So, who wants to realize and get a mantra? Where there is love, always love will direct your thinking, your thoughts, your feelings, everything. So he went to collect, and he had a book, a notebook. He went to the farmers: "What is good for this? What is good for this?" He became a very good artist, quickly drawing the picture, the name, and what it was good for—what is good for what, and what is not good for what? Good and bad. So, which good qualities do we have, and which negative qualities do we have? We know, but we do not demonstrate our bad qualities. We always try to demonstrate our best qualities. But our inner self knows—do not lie. Why do you not tell your bad qualities? ... Guru Nanak said, "I went to search for bad people, bad things. I did not find anyone. Then I went inside to search. No one was worse than myself." So there is a reality inside, and do not compromise with that reality. It took a long, long time. He traveled through all the continents, writing, writing—a big book. He came back to his master after a few years, and he surrendered this to his master, what he was writing, and said, "Master, I failed." The master said, "You did not find any plant?" He said, "Yes, I did. I found many plants, but I did not find any which are not useful. So I failed." The master said, "You did not fail; you passed. Your hard work has become a great help for humans and all creatures." And that became the Āyurveda. All herbs, all plants, the values—thanks to that disciple. This was followed by Caraka, and one of the best literatures about Āyurveda is Caraka. So, always find such things. You have to give all your data. Then the Master will read and think, yes, which direction you should go. Should we stop your coming and going? So we say, "God, I am tired of it. Let me be in one place." Then Dharmarāja reads the whole data, good and bad. So there are two places only: Naraka or Svarga, either hell or heaven, or Brahmaloka. So we have to come to Brahmaloka. When we chant the particular mantras, then all our five kośas—it means jīvātmā too, including our soul—and with the soul, the Ātmā. At that time the soul dissolves into the Ātmā like salt. Salt is the essence of that water from that earth, and that salt again will melt into the water. The drop of water is called jīva, and where it falls into the ocean is called Śiva. So in us, all kośas create a very beautiful harmony. If we have anger, if we are offended, if we are jealous, if we try to escape, then we cannot realize this. Therefore, experience. That is why you should live it. Śiva, Sundara, Satya, Śiva, Sundara, Satya, Śiva, Sundara, Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān, Devīśvara Mahādeva, Dharma Samrāṭ, Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandjī Bhagavān, Satya Sanātana, Oṁ Śānti, Śānti, Śānti. So, while we see you on the webcast, we will see where we can. Until then, I wish you all the best, a good journey, a good homecoming, and many blessings to all our brothers and sisters. Prepare yourself. All friends and all are for the 21st of June. It is called the International Day of Yoga. We are making some posters you can distribute. You can put them in our centers wherever you are, wherever you can. The world celebrates International Day of Yoga, and this poster we can use always. The world celebrates. 21st of June, International Day of Yoga. On that day, we will have t-shirts: long arm, half arm.
