The Three Types of Karma and the Law of Cause and Effect
Karma is understood through three types: the stored accumulation, the active destiny of this life, and the fresh actions created now. The vast store of past karmic seeds is not experienced all at once. At the moment of death, one's strongest attachments and desires determine which handful of seeds becomes active for the next life; this is destiny. This active karma designs the circumstances of birth, family, and early life experiences, all of which are precise karmic results, not mistakes. The law of karma is a strict law of cause and effect, where selfish acts lead to suffering and selfless acts to positive experience. Therefore, one should not search for guilt in others but ask what lesson is to be learned from every situation. Challenging experiences are often the primary means for spiritual development. By accepting life as the perfect result of one's own karma, one can learn and grow smoothly. The natural end of this active karma plan is the natural time of death. Humans alone have the choice and responsibility to create new karma, unlike animals which act on instinct. Present actions shape habits and character, influencing the future. Through spiritual practice, such as mantra and meditation, one can purify existing karmas. In the highest state of consciousness, beyond time and space, karmic seeds are rendered inactive, leading to liberation.
"Karma is not endless, and also every single seed is clearly defined: what is the character of this karma, how strong it is, and how long it will last, and then it is over."
"The law of karma always confronts us with ourselves. No one is guilty. Simply cross out the word guilt from your dictionary."
