Guruji is Divine Light

The divine bond between guru and disciple is the foundation of spiritual life.

A disciple's journey begins with a longing for truth. Upon meeting the guru, one recognizes a divine light and a profound inner calling. The guru's training is rigorous, designed to transform the raw disciple into a refined instrument. This process requires complete surrender, like a seed dying to become a tree. The guru's protection is constant, ensuring the disciple's spiritual safety and discipline. Through loving guidance and demanding work, wisdom is transferred not merely by instruction but through grace and experience. This bond culminates in the disciple embodying the teachings and receiving the guru's complete spiritual transmission.

"The Master makes the disciple a Master, if that vein goes through that training."

"In love, there is trust. In love, there is protection. In love, there is a surrender, acceptance, and it is a oneness."

Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān Kī. Śrī Dev Purīṣa Mahādeva Kī. Satguru Swāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavān Kī. Satyasanātana Dharma Kī. Śrī Mahāprabhujī’s, Devpurījī’s, and Gurujī’s blessings to all of you. I will speak in English again because we are on a webcast, and therefore some people understand English, while some do not speak English or German. Another thing—I have caught a cold, so I will not speak too much. I have very strong throat pain. So, I will not say, "It was," and, "They were." In Sāgina Yamato, bra, have a war? Height is this? The Śikṣā needs loud reading of a large break. I have a microphone. Today is the most beautiful day for us, and that is our beloved holy Gurujī’s incarnation day, his birthday. For a spiritual saint, we call it an incarnation, and for us normal persons, a birthday. The meaning is the same, but there are some spiritual titles. The person is the same, but inside is different. So, holy Gurujī’s divine incarnation. You all have read the Līlā Amṛt, the book that holy Gurujī wrote, and many bhajans of Gurujī. You were singing, you read the bhajans, and many of you have seen Gurujī. In Europe, he was here three times, and in India you saw him. Gurujī was a great personality. When Gurujī appeared, you could feel some divine light coming, Divya Jyoti. I wrote, and I taught many times also, about my life. I was very young. I am still young, but that time I was younger, yes. So, 10-12 years is not so young nor old. I always had a wish: I would like to do something, I would like to become something, and I did not know what. I had never seen any sādhu before. My father was a great astrologer. Please, to the webcast, do not mind, I have to drink something warm from time to time. In my horoscope, my father said two or three points. But he said the first powerful point is: if he will see the sādhu, he will become also a sādhu. In my village there was no sādhu, and no sādhu came. The first time the holy Gurujī came was a long time ago. When I saw the holy Gurujī, I said, yes, that is what I want to be. That’s what I was searching for. My Gurujī saw me because, as soon as Gurujī came to my village, my father passed away, so he came to bless my mother, and I saw him. I had in my house one picture of holy Gurujī with complete hair. Some dirt had fallen on the photo, so I did not know what to do. I took water. It was a black and white photo, picture, and I took the water to clean it, and half of the face was gone. So, it can happen. But when I saw Gurujī, I saw that divine light. It went into my mind, into my heart, into my consciousness, into my soul, through and through the light which I still see, still see. He stayed there about half an hour, and within half an hour the whole village had gathered. The little children had no chance to come to the front. They were always pushed back. Anyhow, I had a great desire to go to him, but my mother said, "I don’t know if he will be happy; he will be angry. He will ask me, 'Why did you come here? Why did you bring him here?'" Because, when you become a sanyāsī, a sādhu, then you have a different life, not in attachment. But one day Gurujī wrote a letter, a postcard, for the inauguration of the Nīpal Āśram. He invited Mother. I said, "Today is my greatest day; I will go with Mother." My other two brothers said, "No, they will go." I said, if you go, I will not eat anymore until you come back. So it is my right to go. I am the youngest one. Children are always fighting, no? So my brother said, "Okay, you go." I came and I saw Gurujī for the second time, in the evening, about 9 o’clock. It was full moon, Guru Pūrṇimā Day. In Nīpal Āśram, there was only one hall and a little veranda. He was walking in front of the ashram in the yard. I was standing far away. Mother came and went to make praṇām. Then I went slowly, and I was standing behind my mother, and Gurujī said, "Who is this boy?" My uncle, Gurujī’s elder brother, said my name and said, "He’s the son of our sister." He said, "Oh, how are you, so and so?" I said, "Okay, good." Well, slowly, slowly, things developed. But that light, that dignity, that voice, those movements—everything was not ordinary. In my eyes, it was God himself standing in front of me. It is said, in the water, in a little lake, there is one flower, a water flower called a lily. Yes? It looks like a lotus, no? Like a small lotus. We call it Kāmodinī. This Kāmodinī waits the whole month for when the full moon will appear, and then she will open herself fully, completely, because she is longing for the moon. So it is said, Kāmodinī is living here and the moon is far away in the sky, but those who have love in their heart are together everywhere. There is no distance, and so were my feelings, my dream to be with him. But I thought it is impossible, is impossible in India. We used to say, "A little bird wants to raise up the mountain. She wants to fly and take with her legs a mountain away." It is not possible, but impossible things can become possible where the Guru’s kṛpā is there, the blessing is there. So Gurujī was great. Yes, in the beginning it was nice, like chocolates for children. But then he asked, "Do you want to stay with me in the ashram?" I said yes, and then came many things. Then came the training. You know when you have a young horse, and then the young horse has to go to the Spanish riding school? They are beautiful, very nice, only their stomach is too big, it is like a cow. The cow is also beautiful, but to train them, the horse itself knows what training means. And now, when they appear in this hall, many people come from around the world to see them. Their beauty, their movements, their performance, jumping with both legs like this, you know, and this is beautiful. That is because they went through the master’s training. There are others they do not train still, so they are okay, also okay, but not so. Master training is master training. And there is like this: you have to die to live. It means when we put a seed in the earth, now a seed is more or less like a die, and it sprouts out and becomes a beautiful tree and gives many flowers and fruits. So when you can go through these trainings, then you become that model. The stone, the paras, makes the iron gold. Not the paras, only iron, and the paras makes the gold. But the Master makes the disciple a Master, if that vein goes through that training. And we all fail. We all fail. So the training with Gurujī was very nice. He told me, "Look, in one hand I have a laddū, sweet, and in the other hand I have a stick. What do you want?" I said, "Whatever you give me." So inside, I said, "Laddu." But I said, as you like. When we speak about love in the world, what is love? That love is immortal, and that love will remain ever. And so that kind of love is what Gurujī gave me, and through his love, I developed. And he gave me all his wisdom. Then I woke up after two years of being with him. In the third year, he gave me the training. And he told me, "Wake up at 3 o’clock every day." Every day, it does not matter what. And then he gave me some sādhanā, one kriyā. I stayed in his room, and something awakened. This Gurujī’s writing, I do not know. So when Gurujī said one word, from one word of Gurujī, I could write the whole book. And that is why Gurujī said, "Yes, Māheś, you are that one whom I wish." I wish very much that you should have met Mahāprabhujī. I am so sorry, Gurujī said, that you did not see Mahāprabhujī in life. Because Mahāprabhujī was searching for someone like you. I said, "But where are you, Gurujī? You are there, and I am with you." He said, "Yes." But still, I wish that you should have seen, lived some days with Mahāprabhujī. Mahāprabhujī. But through Gurujī’s divine mercy, Gurujī’s love, his care, he transferred all the love that Mahāprabhujī gave to the Gurujīs. First, after these four days, three years after this training which Gurujī gave me, I became a sanyāsī. Then he never let me go alone, never. From Nepal, if I have to go to the market village to buy something, he will not let me go alone. So he was so protective, and he knew that there are many people who are jealous, many people who are bad—anyone can do anything. So never go alone. I said, "Gurujī, why not? I am young, I can run. I will fight them." Gurujī said, "Moment, peaceful, peaceful, don’t fight." So Gurujī said, "The sannyāsīs should not go alone." There are many, they are moving here and there. They are on the way. They are not disciplined. They lost their discipline, so I said, "But Gurujī, who will go with me all the time?" He said, "Don’t worry. I will send them." And so wherever I go, you are always with me. And I remember the blessing of Gurujī. He is organizing that I am never alone. Because the monks, the nuns, sādhvīs, and sannyāsīs, who are going to become something, they have to be protected and taught and allowed to follow the disciplines, principles, everything. Well, for me, it was a big surprise that every disciple writes a bhajan about his or her Gurujī. But Gurujī wrote a bhajan for me. You cannot imagine. And he taught me many things, and he wrote about me. I did not open that. The book is lying somewhere. Because I cannot talk to myself, to you about myself, what Gurujī said. But the respect, in the beginning, he was taking me as a model, a raw model, a raw stone. Then he took me as a form, and then he took me as a student. Then he took me, that which he now likes, loves. And then the time came, you cannot imagine when I used to come, Gurujī stood up. I said, Gurujī, please do not do this. I do not want you to stand up when I come. Gurujī said, "That is not your problem, it is my problem." I said, "Okay." So, Gurujī gave me so much, you cannot imagine. And he is protecting, he is with us. One cannot be more than that, thankful to one’s master. And the Guru Bhakti, that is the highest, the greatest, the divinest, and the most successful. I saw how much Gurujī had bhakti to Mahāprabhujī, and how much Mahāprabhujī had to Devapurījī. And Devapurījī, who lived long in the Himalayas, Alagpurījī. So Gurujī gave me Guru Bhakti. And Gurujī said, when you have Guru Bhakti, you need not study anything. You will get what you should get in human life. So he said, "All knowledge, Guru Kṛpā, it comes to you." So, how does the master bestow the blessing? How does he transfer the knowledge? Not that you are sitting in the school and sitting and repeating again and again and again. Gurujī did not sit beside me and say, "Now chant this mantra, and this mantra means like this and like that." No, when I was sitting, he said, "Go clean the kitchen." Okay? When I came back and was sitting there... "Clean the verandas," okay? And after I came and sat, he said, "Well, clean Mahāprabhujī’s temple, okay?" I was sitting after coming. "Now go and make food." So I said, "Oh, let’s... give me all you want." Sometimes, really, I was thinking, "I am not a servant." Yes, this is a training. He will see if he will run away or not. This is this. And when I was... he sent me outside, he was coming and looking. He said, "You are tired, come." I said, "No, Gurujī, I am not tired." Then, "Clean." Okay. I said, I again made a mistake. But then, after he gave me a big laddū, prasāda. And then he was telling some words, what this word means, like that. And then I had to think the whole week, what does that mean? And the next day he said, "I told you this, did you understand?" I said, "No, I did not understand." Oh, you will understand. One week more, and then again, and I was understanding. I had so many meanings for those words, and then Gurujī told me one or two words. But I said, "Gurujī, I found many." He said, "Then tell me." So I was telling, and Gurujī was so happy that you multiply like the seeds in the field. I said, "That is your kṛpā." So the blessings of Gurujī always provide great protection, physical and spiritual, in every aspect. And when I used to come from India to Europe, Gurujī even called me already in Delhi, saying that when you left the ashram, it is like prāṇa is gone. I say, "Gurujī, no, my prāṇa is gone because you are there." He said, "No, Mahesh." So I can tell you what love means. It can be mother’s love, it can be father’s love, it can be wife-husband love, the children’s love. Love is not physical. Love is indescribable. In love, there is trust. In love, there is protection. In love, there is a surrender, acceptance, and it is a oneness. And so Gurujī was very protective and always told me, "Do not go alone." I said, one day, Gurujī, in Vienna, the woods are very safe. I go after the 10 o’clock yoga class, I go to Vienna Wood for a walk. And this. He said, "Huh? You did not tell me." I said, "I am telling you now." He said, "No, do not go." I said, "Where is safety there?" He said, "Yes, but you break your leg. Till morning you will be lying there. You cannot walk in the snow. Do not go alone." I said, "Okay, Gurujī." Once, twice, I went alone, and I had a beautiful meeting. Mahāprabhujī came suddenly, and I was sitting there. It is in Vienna, would I have written somewhere? I will tell the story. Once Mahāprabhujī came in my meditation, and, uh, where the house of the Bibi is, and that there was a big house from one... it was like from one bank manager. Vienna, I know. But it was exactly that when I saw the house was the Kṛṣṇapurī, and, uh, Bibi, or what is her name, Rukmaṇī, and I had a little satsaṅg, and Mahāprabhujī came and sat on the bed. When my āsana got up, Mahāprabhujī sat, and he had a satsaṅg. And he gave me so many Rudrākṣas. And he said, "Give everybody prasāda." I said, "So beautiful, Rudrākṣa," and I give everyone. I took more and put them in both my pockets. And Mahāprabhujī said, "I will give more. Do not be greedy. Give them. I will give satsaṅg now." I said, okay. And then the vision was gone. So whenever I think of Krishnapuri, I see Mahāprabhujī’s light there. So Gurudev is there. It is not that every day gives you miracles. Every day is not necessary. When every day is, then you become like a magician. That is only when a certain constellation comes, and one knows that yes, that he will preserve and digest. It takes a long time. So anyone who becomes a sādhu, and our sādhus, you should also respect them and go with them, do not let them go alone. Okay, we drive, and so it is okay, but still, still, this is the principle. On the day when you will go alone, you will break your many disciplines. And when you break these many disciplines, you are gone. So, it is not only your physical protection, but also the protection of your spiritual rules. So, holy Gurujī and many, many visions. Here in Vienna, he was twice in the hospital, and love. In Vienna, he was in the hospital. He said, "I did not say." He was in the operation theater, and he said he left. Then he saw me, and I said, "You cannot go, Gurujī," and he said, "Maheśvaranān pulled me back, and I even do not know." But I was sad, and I was thinking of Gurujī very much. And then Gurujī told in Jodhpur to Rajendra, he is a great bhakta, and Gurujī told Rajendra, I will not leave this body until Mahesh tells me, "You can now please go." So when Gurujī was in Jodhpur hospital, we put him there, and he was not going. So Rajendrajī told me, "Please, Swāmījī, tell in the ear of Gurujī, ’Gurujī, you can leave this physical body and be with us in your astral body.’" I said, "This I cannot tell. I cannot tell my master, ’You can go peacefully.’" Impossible. Then on Diwali day, again, Rajendraji said, "Swamiji, it was holy Gurujī’s wish. Please go and say it to him." I said, "I will not say, but I will go to Khāṭū and ask Mahāprabhujī, ’What is the best? Please decide.’" So I went to Khatu, and in the morning, at 10 o’clock, I had a prayer in the Dhūni, asking Mahāprabhujī. And when I was asking Mahāprabhujī in my prayer, the telephone rang after one minute. So I do not know who was calling. The Drona people answered, and after I said, his telephone was coming. Who was calling? He said they were calling from Jodhpur. We did not understand. I went to Bhagwati Ashram, and a telephone call came there. Rajadhir said, "I should come quickly. Gurujī is not so well." So I knew, so that much love I had, that much kripa, mercy, blessings, everything. Gurujī said, "I gave you everything. Now you should know how you will digest it, how much you will give to all, and how you will keep it all. Do not be selfish." Give love, give love, give blessings. In the name of Mahāprabhujī, your words will always, how do you call them, come true. And so it is, holy Gurujī’s divine day, divine blessings. We wished that holy Gurujī could come and be here with us, but the body cannot survive so long. And you see our love for all of you. You have so much love for Gurujī, as much as I also have. And what we made a samādhi of Gurujī. People are coming there, and they said, "What means the Guru Bhakti?" And otherwise, in the ashram, the yard, the garden, they have little place, and make the samādhi, the samādhi, and that is all. One day, no. How beautiful is samādhi in Jalan? Yeah. So this is our, our devotion. I could not do it alone. You did it all. Help. And when we go, Gurujī is so happy sitting there. He is smiling, and people are meditating there. It is peaceful, divine. So today is Gurujī’s divine incarnation. We pray to him that his divine blessings, guidance, and protection for you and for me should be forever. And after this, we shall merge into the light of holy Gurujī. Means, go to Mahāprabhujī, Devapurījī, and Alagpurījī. So, thank you and bless you. Satguru Swami Madhavānandajī Bhagavān Kī Jai, Dev Puruṣa Bhagavān Kī Jai, Dīp Nārāyaṇa Mahāprabhujī Kī Jai, Satya Sanātana Dharma Kī Jai, Oṁ Śānti.
