Happy Family

Family harmony and spiritual practice are the foundation of a meaningful life. True family provides support in both joy and sorrow. Modern life scatters families across the globe, weakening these essential bonds. The purpose of life is not found in quarreling, gossiping, or struggling for money. Time is precious and must be used for spiritual progress, not merely for material accumulation. Inner strength, or ātmabala, arises from the Self and eliminates anger and jealousy, which stem from weakness and ignorance. Spiritual practice within the satsaṅg, the community, is the most powerful path. It unites individuals like fingers forming a fist, creating collective strength for the journey toward self-realization.

"God did not give you time just to work, to run here and there to earn money."

"One who has ātmabala does not feel offended."

First of all, many blessings to all of you, and many blessings to Mahābandheśvara Devpurījī and Ānandipurī. Their work is truly admirable. And this credit goes first to all of you, for keeping in harmony together. It is through the guidance of Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara Vivekpurījī and all of you. There is great happiness, great joy, and a feeling of freedom and certainty when an entire family lives in harmony. Consider great-grandparents, grandparents, children, nephews, and the children of your brothers and sisters. Altogether, it becomes about forty family members. Your brother's children, your sister's children—it multiplies. If they all have mutual understanding and the feeling of being members of one family, they understand the main purpose of a family. Family members are there, first of all, for sukha and duḥkha. When you are happy, time is with you—during a wedding, the birth of a child, or holy festivals. And duḥkha, the sorrows: someone dies, someone is ill, there are worldly problems. Real friends and real family members should be together when you have problems. If there are one hundred people, and each walks with one stick, it is not a load. But if there are one hundred sticks bundled together, one has to carry a heavy load. So, as many family members as there are, it is a joy and a witness. But where is that family feeling now? It is not there because the family does not grow and live together. The father lives in Japan, divorced. The mother lives in Africa, remarried. A brother is in New York struggling for a job, and sisters are in India enjoying Karma Yoga service in general. What is the purpose? The modern way of life is like this; the world has become one with it. We go everywhere for our work. But though they are distanced, they should be united in one place. It is said that every evening the bird flies back to the nest. Similarly, it does not matter where you go to work; in your old age, come together as a family. Blood is thicker than water. It does not matter where you are. You dream of Croatia. Sometimes on a walk you remember Croatia, and when it is very hot in some countries, you remember the Adriatic coast. Smṛti means our feelings, our longing is there from the first time you inhale that air. If you were born at home, the hospital is nothing. Now most are born in a hospital. So when you fill out a form—where were you born? In the hospital, with an address of a ward number, a room number. That is the truth. Similarly, in our yoga practice, we are one. In both sukha and duḥkha, there can be misunderstanding. You may not like what others do, but you are all on the same boat: our Ālak Purījī Siddhapīṭha Paramparā. That is our roots. Take stock. How many years have passed already? What have you achieved? Except gossiping and confusing others, what did you achieve? Quarreling, blackmailing, gossiping, criticizing, fighting, struggling for money—this is not the aim of our life. When those kinds of troubles are digested in the stomach, the Maṇipūra Cakra, they produce harmony, peace, and love. Practice to achieve your spiritual level of happiness. Time does not wait for anyone. Use the time. Do not neglect time; to neglect time is the biggest sin. God gave us such a precious body and such precious time. God did not give you time just to work, to run here and there to earn money. God said, "If I gave you the pig, I will give you the food too. Why are you afraid?" You will not be hungry, but the hunger of the bank account cannot be filled. One day you will pass away and will not be able to use this money. How is this running for money? The poor are those who always struggle for money. The rich are those who struggle for the spiritual. How many years have you been practicing? Count your life. How many years do you have left? Maybe three-quarters are used; only a quarter remains. I wish you long life. I can only wish you. But destiny is written somewhere. It does not mean that you will die; one can die of illness, accident, etc. I met one gentleman this evening, above 95 years old. He is very alert, very conscious, and knows the names of so many people around the world—a great personality. Imagine how you will be when you are 95. Think: this young Swamiji is already tired, holding his head to go down the staircase. How do you think he will be when he is 95? So, ātmabala—you must have ātmabala. Ātmabala is the strongest power; it means power from the Self. If you have ātmabala, you will never be angry. Anger exists where there is weakness, and weakness exists where there is ignorance. One who has ātmabala does not feel offended. One who feels offended has no knowledge, or only a little knowledge, and when something happens, you lose that knowledge too. Then there is jealousy. Jealousy is a hidden ignorance. When you are jealous, you are in a dark place, in dark custody, in prison; you are in ignorance because you lack self-confidence. Self-confidence is freedom, but you have no freedom; you are in the prison of darkness. Therefore, you are jealous, looking through the iron bars. One monkey is eating bananas outside, and you like bananas very much, but you are so angry, so jealous—that monkey can eat, but I cannot. Our weakness is a sign that our willpower is not strong. We say: from your hands, anyone can take away, but what you have in your brain, your destiny—no one can destroy your destiny. What is written there will be there. Only Gurudeva can change the line of destiny. Mahāprabhujī says, "What is not possible, Gurudeva can make possible. What is possible, he can make impossible." Because Parabrahma Gurudeva—Gurudeva is Parabrahma. Some good days of an eye, he can do everything. We all would like to be a guru. That is okay. But to become a guru, we have to remove all these thorns of negative qualities, negative thinking. That is very important. Still, the great person who is the master gives priority to the bhaktas. Bhaktas who come to the satsaṅg—so one man came, that's it. I was thinking, "Oh, Vivek Purī was with me going to school. We were the same, making jokes." I know he began yoga, and now he is sitting as a Bābā Īśvara, sitting up, and we are sitting down. Yes, many would be like that. They asked him, and he smiled and gave a good answer. Those who have more knowledge are very heavy. Those who have much knowledge come out like a bottle of water. So, on a scale, we put kilograms: one kilo on one side, one gram on the other. The one kilo goes down, and the one gram is up. Vivek Purī said, "You are great, so your scale cannot go up; you are solid." I wish I could also have some more. So he went to Gurujī for an answer. Gurujī said, "One in all and all in one." That one gram is okay. We do have so many negative thoughts. Once you worship your Guru, and once you are angry at your Guru, and once you are criticizing him—that is a great sin. You should read the Guru Gītā; then you will know what happened. But our ego is different. Before criticizing, you do not see that light of Gurudeva. Gurudeva is not a body; that is divine knowledge. This body is only preserving that. It is Gurudeva who takes immense karmas from you. Everyone calls, everyone asks for help. So the helpline of Gurudeva is a 24-hour hotline. There were two persons who died at the same time. One was a great bhakta, and one only sometimes thought of God. When both died, they came to the door of the Brahmaloka. Heaven is only one room in the entire universe; Brahmaloka is endless. They came and knocked on the door. The doorkeeper came: "Yes, please." They said, "We are here." He said, "How nice. Where do you want to go? Brahmaloka? Do you have invitations? No. But we know we are coming to Brahmaloka." "Then wait, please. I will go to God and ask: 'These two bhaktas, would they like to come to Brahmaloka? What are their names? Where do they come from? Where do they live?'" God closed his eyes and saw. One was a bhakta who all the time was singing, chanting the name of God. The other, only time to time. So God said, "Bring him into Brahmaloka—remember, only time to time. And put the other back to the earth." "He is your bhakta." "I know, but he disturbs me night and day, not letting me sleep; he is always on that hotline." So holy saints always receive everyone's thoughts. Poligurjī was giving me one technique long ago, even when I was in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He taught it; it is called Svara Yoga and Trikāla Darśana. With certain techniques, you can see what is happening, where, and what. But do not use it. Do not tell. At that time, when you tell someone, then it will go down. But when Gurudeva gives you the order, then you can see. This Vidyā is very important, and I would like to give you this knowledge. Mahāprabhujī said, "Keep quiet." Okay, Mahāprabhujī, I will not give. Now you think this knowledge does not exist. I tell you, and then you will know. In the time of the Mahābhārata, at Kurukṣetra, where the Bhagavad Gītā begins, the Pāṇḍavas and the Kauravas are both one father's children. Look at that family, and look at the family of the Bhagavad Gītā—all brothers, all father's children. So they went. The Kauravas were not ready to give a piece of land, even like the tip of a needle, and wanted to destroy them completely. One family. And it happens now again. When your parents die, you are only two or three brothers and sisters, and 80% of the property goes to the lawyer. Lawyers are very good. They tell us, "Yes, everything will be okay. You have rights, and you have rights." So you sign and make the case. Then they change the time: ten years. "Yes, after three months again we will be hearing." Then other lawyers don't hear. Two other six years, months. And of course, the lawyers understand; they must also live from something. That is why your grandparents left them empty. My brother goes to the lawyer. No more brothers. Now people even make a case against mother and mother of the child. That is Kali Yuga. They did not know this. So, the blind king, Dhṛtarāṣṭra, could not see, for he was the father. But he wanted to see what his children were doing. So Kṛṣṇa said, "I give Sañjaya divine vision during the war. He can see everything, even from a far distance—I got 150 km—and he will tell you everything that is happening and what they are speaking." So when morning war begins, he sees everything, and the blind king is sitting and hearing: "What is my brother doing? What is this doing?" Attachment for kingdom, greed for the kingdom, etc. Evening and sunset, no more war. Now the war begins at midnight, after sunset. Yes, the whole day the house is peaceful. In the evening, when the husband and wife come home, then in that home, war begins. So Sañjaya could see everything and inform the blind king. When the Mahābhārata war was over, Sañjaya said, "It is finished." And what happened then? He said, "King, I can't see. This vision is gone." That is Trikāladarśī. Similarly, the disciple's third eye begins to open, but that does not give the right information to Gurudeva and to the bhaktas. They do not see the world as God wants to show them. In purity, you throw the dust. You lost again. Mahāprabhujī said in Vrajana: "Manasam koyori kusangīya pisan, oh my, you lost everything with the kusangī." Kusangī means the gossipers; they are happy to make others unhappy. They destroy themselves and others. What you call that is called a suicide bomb. They put the bomb on their body and go somewhere to kill others, but first the self is killed. So, like these people, they cannot get anything, and God is sorry for them. Again, I make a mistake. This soul I put in such a beautiful body, but the quality of this body is āsurī śakti. So you have no visions, no purity. There is no purity, no devotion, no humbleness, no forgiveness, no understanding. What have you? That's it. So, we are one family, and I am happy that all of Croatia, all bhaktas, are happy, practicing, healthy. And those who do not practice, they are also good, but unhealthy. So, if you practice more with me, many things happen in life, good and bad. But the most terrible tragedy will happen: one will die without self-realization. And self-realization comes through non-dualism. When you talk negatively about someone, you are stuck in dualism. So when you talk badly about someone, you did not understand what is ātmā. Śaṅkarācārya is talking about ātmā and not dualism. That is the greatest philosophy of Vedānta. It is one in all. So, practice. Take care of your āśrama. Help the ashram. And our yoga in this life has one speciality: it is called satsaṅg. Satsaṅg is our most powerful point, and I know that you mostly like to come to satsaṅg. And more than you, your children like to come to satsaṅg. These children were yogīs in their last life. But you have to give them more education. Let them come to satsaṅg. You must know how to inspire them to come. Say the Mahā Mantra for children to go to satsaṅg. "Swamiji is there with chocolate." And you will tell them; they will say, "Let's go." So they know; they understand language. The chocolate. They can come; let them go. So, what I want to tell you: five fingers are not equal, but without five fingers we cannot make a fist. One finger is also strong, but you cannot hit with it; it will break. But when five are together, they become power. There is a story—I think you know it—it is better for children to get chocolate than me.
