Yoga can help

Yoga is a holistic science for body, mind, and soul, leading to health and liberation. It is an ancient practice for physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being. Health is life; without it, there is only suffering. Daily practice purifies the inner instrument, dispelling the darkness of ignorance and negative thoughts. The primary cause of illness is incorrect diet, as every morsel consumed transforms into one's energy and destiny. Harmony in family and society is essential nourishment, as mental tension manifests as physical disease. Physical postures should be practiced according to one's capacity, not forced. Prānāyāma regulates energy, releases tension, and prevents disease by cleansing the body. What you eat, the company you keep, and the thoughts you entertain all constitute nourishment that shapes your health. Practice systematically, avoid negative influences, and follow a sattvic diet.

"Yoga is a science of body, mind, and soul. And it helps us to maintain our physical, mental, social, and spiritual health."

"Each and every corn is written with the name of who will eat it. Similarly, in everyone’s desires, this is kismat, karma; destiny is written."

Sarve bhavantu sukhinaḥ, sarve santu nirāmayāḥ, sarve bhadrāṇi paśyantu, mā kaścid duḥkha bhāgbhavet. Oṃ tryambakaṃ yajāmahe, sugandhiṃ puṣṭivardhanam, urvārukam iva bandhanān, Oṃ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ... Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān Kī, Deveśvar Mahādev Kī, Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavān Kī, Satyasanātan Dharma Kī. Blessed self, dear sisters and brothers, welcome to this beautiful city, this beautiful hall, and to all you beautiful people. What a beautiful subject. Yes, yoga helps. The title is very good. Yoga is yoga. Afterwards, we give it some name, but that does not mean anything. Religion is a religion. But then we say Hindu religion, Christian religion, that religion, this religion. God is God. Not their God, our God. Similarly, yoga is yoga. It is the creation of Svayambhū, Śiva. All the knowledge, all the vidyās, everything is created by Śiva. So yoga is a blessing of Śiva, Svayaṃbhū. Therefore, it is ages and ages from Satyugas; yoga was there. Yoga is a science of body, mind, and soul. And it helps us to maintain our physical, mental, social, and spiritual health. Health is life. Where there is no health, there is already death. So, yoga can help us from our physical health all the way to liberation. To be born again and die is also a disease. To change all the times in this world—we are born, now you are born here, next time somewhere different. This is a suffering, transferring this body from one hospital to another hospital. Yoga helps to give eternal life, immortal life. But practice. Who is practicing every day? Have pure energy in the body. Pure thinking is like this light. This light is just here, and the darkness cannot come to the light. You need not close the door. Avoid the darkness. Darkness will not come close to the light. Similarly, if we practice every day, our inner instrument (antakaraṇa), our inner tendencies (vṛttis) become pure. Then there is no dark negative thinking there. We are the light. Tamaso mā jyotir gamaya—lead us from the darkness to the light. And that light means the knowledge. When the knowledge is there, then there is no ignorance. Where there is ignorance, there are all negative thoughts: hate, jealousy, conflict, anger, greed, fear, everything. Why does one have fear? Because one has ignorance. This all hate, jealousy, anger, these are the bubbles of ignorance. And when there is light, there is only Ātmā. So, practice every day. Let’s come today to our physical and mental body. Almost all here have physical problems. This is a body, everyday changing. But we can maintain our body in a better way. The first cause of illnesses is the wrong way of eating. Our diet is a problem. Our tongue is not under control. When we see something good, for example, good grapes, the tongue forces us to take the grapes and eat them. That is our weakness. We can’t say our tongue knows, but that taste, enjoying that taste, is the cause of illness. To enjoy, we think we will enjoy that kind of disease. So, that joy you would like to enjoy, that joy has little enjoyment, but more the suffering of that joy. And our whole life we will be sorry. So, the first is diet. Every grain has a name written on it, who will eat? You will say, "Ah, what is Swāmījī telling?" Who is writing this? So much, who will eat? You have 100 hectares of land, and you grow corn. How much corn do you harvest? And you think someone is writing names of who will eat? Yes, my dear, yes. You can’t eat that which has no name on it, your name. One lady was sitting outside in the afternoon on her terrace, in her garden, and she was cleaning the rice because in the evening she would cook rice for herself and for her husband. And one Swāmījī was passing, and he looked at that lady who was cleaning the rice on one plate. He was smiling. He said, "What a God’s miracle." And she said, "Gurudev, why do you smile?" He said, "My daughter, I see one rice, one corn, only one in that plate." And that will eat the king. She said, "Thank you." But I’m cleaning the rice for me and for my husband to eat in the evening. He said that I don’t know how it will happen. How will God manage this? I don’t know. But there is one grain of rice. The king will eat this. Okay, we will see. Carefully, she collected all the rice and put it in the cooking pot. In India, we call it khichḍī. And her husband came. The husband was working with some rich businessman. And that rich businessman was giving the loan to the king. So they were eating khichḍī and slept. Before going to sleep, that businessman sent a message to his secretary. Seven o’clock we have to be at the king’s morning, so please come on time. So he was working late evening, and he was eating. One grain of rice remained very hard. It happened sometime to you also. You will see some corn didn’t go through, and that secretary had a cavity in his tooth. So it went into that cavity. He was brushing his teeth, but it didn’t come out, and his tongue was always going there, but it didn’t come out. He slept. In the morning, he quickly got ready and went to his boss, and together they went to the king. The king is sitting, the businessman is sitting beside him, and his secretary is sitting beside them. And the king is talking about some plan, how to finance it, and so on. While talking, meantime, that secretary was sneezing. He said, "Rice fell on the seat of the king." He was very unhappy, but the businessman did not see. The king also didn’t see, but that meant so. Mahāprabhujī protect today. Anyhow, they were talking with the air, the rice dried, and the talk was finished. And the king said, "Oh, I’m happy, thank you." And he puts his hand like this and relaxes like that. Hand touched the rice, and the king said, "It’s this, it’s rice." And the food is God. He bites it. Again, the secretary was so fearful, but he went home and said to his wife, "Today was a very hard day for me." She said, "What happened, darling?" He told the story. She said, "I knew this yesterday." "Then why didn’t you tell me?" "Because I didn’t believe." That time they wrote, "Dāne Dāne Pe Likha Khāne Vāle Kā Nām." Each and every corn is written with the name of who will eat it. So animals will eat, birds will eat, humans will eat, ants will eat, or it will remain and grow again. So, my dear, it is written on every corn. Similarly, in everyone’s desires, this is kismat, karma; destiny is written. So, we cannot avoid it. Every corn has a vibration. If it is not hard, it is soft. You will eat, you will bite, you will chew, you will swallow. It will go into your digestion, and that will turn into blood. Into some hormones, it will go to the body, and it will grow and grow in us, the negative energy or positive energy. There are many stories like that in reality. So, what you eat, you should know. What is hidden in this eating? There is fear, there is sin, there is negative energy. Swamiji, but how should we know? How should we? We are not that, Swamiji. Therefore, in every religion, before eating, we pray. So at least some karma will be softer. Second, your car is with a petrol engine, and you put in diesel; it will not function. So this body is designed by the designer, God, or whoever, but it is not designed for alcohol. It is very nice, pure water, mother’s milk. Every animal that gives milk, which we drink, is our mother. Because only a mother can give milk; a father cannot. Maybe sometimes some glands develop, but still he is a father. So a mother is a mother. So, the first condition of our health depends on our nourishment. Then, the family problems are the harmony. So you have a husband and a wife; how do they have a relation? So it should be very nice and harmonious. When a wife tells harsh words to her husband, he suffers. Or the husband tells harsh words to the wife, and she is suffering. And that influences our body. Mental tension that transfers to the body goes to the glands and digestion, creating many diseases. Therefore, at home there should be great harmony. Leave all the worldly problems outside of your door. When you come into the house with your family, it should be a joy for you. Don’t run away. The children run away to some clubs. And the husband goes out drinking beers, and the wife is sitting alone. But family life. So, harmony, the atmosphere at home, the atmosphere at the workplace, and the atmosphere with friends and the society where we sit, that influences our health very, very much. So always avoid that negative society and negative talk. That is what you think, like that develops in you. What you hear develops in you. If someone tells you you are stupid, you will become angry. But the whole night you will think, "Why did he say he is stupid?" He is stupid. I am stupid. How do you turn? So many people take it very seriously. I am not stupid, but why did he say I am stupid? He is stupid. I will tell him I am stupid, but you are more stupid than me. So, how does this vibration attack our brain cells? Avoid all of this. This food means many things: solid food, liquid food. Society, food, thinking is a nourishment. No thinking is nourishment. Sadness is a nourishment. Anger is a nourishment. Everything is nourishing, affecting our body system. Therefore, try to avoid it. And when somebody says that you are stupid, don’t take revenge. Don’t go and say you are stupid. And if he says you are stupid, you are stupid. So, action, reaction, action, reaction. Whoever has negative thoughts towards you, that negative energy will kill that negative one. When you are not stupid, why are you angry? So, practicing every day purifies these tensions and this disease. Āsanas are physical postures, but they help the whole body. But nowadays, people create so many wrong postures. They are not yogic postures. How they are twisting their body is not yoga. Who is twisting your body? Some young people. But when they are old, we will have problems. So just do according to your capacity. As we grow old, we have to be careful, but we have to practice. Then we come to the prānāyāma. So first we begin with the left nostril. Because the left nostril is connected to the left hemisphere, it connects to the emotions, the thoughts, and the tension. So when you have more tension, we practice with the left nostril. Inhale and exhale, a little slower than normal breath. Five minutes are counted a hundred times. Immediately, we will feel relaxed from the tension. Then we go through the right nostril. That is sūrya, fire, activities. Prānāyāma is a very powerful practice that warms up the body and moves the energy within it. The body nowadays is a disease, and that’s what we call the cancer. Unfortunately, many people have cancer, and yoga is challenging to have a healthy body. Why? Because that old energy which is stuck in the body is the cause of disease. And through the āsanas, gently stretching, twisting, holding the posture, the different glands, muscles, nerves, or joints release that energy. It is our immunity in the body that will eat all the cancer cells. And prāṇāyāma will seek from every cell of the body which is ill or not healthy, and it will collect those cells and direct them toward immunity and digestion. I do believe that no one has cancer, and I pray to God that you should never have cancer. But prāṇāyāma is a prevention, and for the people also. Nourishment: too much cheese, too much dairy production, too much fat, and too much meat. Meat and eggs are not allowed at all. Tell your tongue, "Tongue, one day I will eat you." Don’t eat this meat. The tongue is a piece of meat here. So the tongue can do many things. That rice was stuck inside, but the tooth had an infection. It was painful. And the tongue goes there to take the rice out. And the tooth said to the tongue, "Please don’t disturb me." After two minutes, again the tongue goes there. And then again he said, "Please, don’t disturb me." Again, the tongue forgets this because it is the tongue’s duty. He said, "Don’t do." The Tooth said, "You don’t know. I am powerful. I have the union. We are 34. We can destroy you within no time. Don’t be proud of yourself. Don’t disturb me." Who said? In our body, in the mouth, there are thirty-two. And the tongue said, "Do not be proud of your union. I also have power. If I tell one wrong word, all thirty-two will come out." This is a fight between teeth and tongue. So this is a fight between our weakness and the joy of our tongue and teeth. So this is one of the most beautiful seasons. Eat more fruits and juices, and preserve the root vegetables and big pumpkins. The whole winter it will survive, so try to eat less. As little as we eat, we will do prāṇāyāma. Then the body will kill all these germs which are not healthy, which can develop as a cancer or different disease. Meditation and mantra will help our brain waves and brain activities, and they will give us peace of mind. So, yes, yoga helps, but do it systematically, and you know, all, mostly, yoga in daily life. It is a scientific system, it is declared as a scientific system, but you have to practice. Don’t eat junk food. The good food, as long as you chew, develops more taste. And the junk food that you eat, as long as you chew it, you will feel like vomiting. So nowadays, pesticides—there’s no organic things. But in the young generation around the world, they became vegans, and they are getting healthy again. Here, you are nice. You have a good figure. But in some countries, young children, 15, 20, they are like this. Sometimes in an aeroplane, they need three belts. And once I was sitting beside, so a person’s elbows were on my thighs. And again he said, "Sorry, but it’s so far." When they come to the night yoga practice, it takes them eight months, ten months, or one year. Because again, muscles have to recover; otherwise, everything is hanging. So, practice and follow a phalahārī diet. Practice your mantra with meditation. In every aspect, it will help you. Yes, yoga helps. So now we will have a new Khaṭū Praṇām. So, two demonstrators will come, please. Who can do? We have first Khāṭū Praṇām, which you know. But they will demonstrate first the first version of Khāṭū Praṇām. Slowly do it yourself. We can chant. Om Śānti. Om Śānti. So, these two fingers, center of the eyebrows, ring finger closing the left nostril, sideward, slightly press, not too strong. Close your eyes and take a deep breath, a little deeper than normal. Inhale only through the left nostril, sorry. Yeah, right, close, please. Right thumb, right nostril, sorry. Inhale through the left nostril and exhale through the left. Only inhale through the left and right, or through the left. Inhale and exhale, both. Feel the respiration, feel the ingoing breath and outgoing breath. After exhalation, you may put your hand on the knee or the thigh, remain with closed eyes, and observe your normal, natural breath. If you feel more relaxed and calm than before, relax. And now again, place two fingers at the eyebrow center, and this time we will inhale and exhale through the right nostril and close the left nostril with the ring finger. Inhale in the abdomen. Inhale and exhale. Observe your breath, feel your breath, and find out how the breath is affecting your body, so that you feel relaxed and the tension is releasing. What is a miracle in the breath? Is this only mental or psychic, or does it really influence? It’s your job to realize or to find out what is what. After the exhalation, place your hand on your thigh and feel your breath. Think how the breath is changing my feelings in the body. We know that breath is life, and life is breath. We can’t live without inhalation and exhalation. But what is in this? It’s not only the oxygen; there must be something which holds our life. The breath, the breath. Yes, through breath we can cure many, many illnesses. Be relaxed, be relaxed. Now we will deep inhale and chant "om" to harmonize the energy in the body three times, and while chanting, observe what is happening in your thoughts, in your consciousness, and in your body. Deep inhale. (Chanting) Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ. Fold your hands and rub your palms, place the hands on the face, and open the eyes. Yes, yoga helps. We shall do it every day. Now is the time for lunch, and the program is according to the protocol. See you again. Thank you for coming.
