Blessing the new ashram in Debrecen

The purpose of human life is to realize our divine nature and achieve liberation.

I travel globally to serve our community and projects, from India to the United Nations, focusing on environmental protection, education, and peace. Our work grows like a tree from a seed. True service means caring for all beings, as helping hands are more valuable than folded ones. We must remember we are human, which means being protectors, not destroyers. This awareness brings the light of kindness and forgiveness, dispelling negative qualities like darkness. Our aim is self-realization, where the knower, knowledge, and object become one. This human life is a rare chance to cross the final milestone to liberation, not merely to live like animals. Practices like yoga and Āyurveda are the two wings to fly towards the divine. We must live to help, protect, and love all.

"Within you is the ocean of immortality. Within you is the fountain of joy. And within you is the immortal soul. Kill this little ‘I’ and lead divine life."

"Don’t make the mistake again to be reborn."

It is a beautiful evening today. I am very happy to see all of you, and I do believe that you are all well—your family is good, your health is good, and your practice is also good. I think about you often, and many of you come to seminars in Vác or Szentendre. For the last six, seven, or eight years, I have been traveling a lot to other parts of the world. So, your guru brothers and sisters there have a chance to see me only every two or three years. They also need the satsaṅg. Many are there from Hungary and other parts of the world; there are also some from Debrecen and from Szeged who traveled to other countries during the communist time. We have a lot of bhaktas. You have many guru brothers and sisters around the world and in our centers. At the same time, there are complaints from the India side; they feel that I neglect them. When Gurujī was there, they could go to Gurujī, and Gurujī was visiting them, so it is my duty. My work is to look after Mahāprabhujī’s, Devapurījī’s, and Gurujī’s bhaktas in India. India is different. There are many bhaktas around the whole of India, and India is a little bit bigger than Hungary, so it takes time to travel around. At the same time, our own project is growing. We have so many, so many projects: save the birds, protect the bees, protect the wildlife, and protect and harvest the water. We support education for poor children, mostly girls from remote areas, and support poor families. Meanwhile, our three organizations are registered in the United Nations as NGOs and have a very special status. In this, with Śrī Svāmī Madhavānanda and the World Peace Council, in that status, I am an observer on behalf of the NGOs of the United Nations. Three weeks ago, we had a beautiful conference at the building of the United Nations in Vienna called "Śrī Svāmī Madhavānanda and the World Peace Council." It was on the 2nd of October, which is declared by the United Nations as the International Day of Non-Violence. This was announced by the United Nations in honor of Mahātmā Gandhi on his birthday, the 2nd of October. Gurujī met Gandhi. Gurujī was living near the āśram of Gandhi. So the United Nations has certain aims and projects: the environment, protection of the environment, education, the protection of life, water, peace, non-violence, etc. And every NGO around the world is supporting the United Nations. There are many active workers with the United Nations as NGOs from Hungary. Last year, there was an international conference called Budapest Water Summit, where the General Secretary of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, was invited by the President of Hungary, and where I was also a keynote speaker. So my service—I would not say activities, but my seva, service—it’s widened to the whole globe. And, of course, everything is under the umbrella of Yoga in Daily Life. So numerous projects are going on, and almost in the whole world, Yoga in Daily Life is practiced. It has acknowledged yoga and life as a scientific system. My dear Devapurījī said, "A tree takes time to grow." A seed which we put in the ground sprouts, and it grows and grows. So likewise, there was a time I had more time to come to Hungary. And we have many seeds of yoga in their life around the whole of Hungary. There are so many centers and so many yoga teachers teaching in the prisons, for blind schools, disabled people, in the garden, in the schools, in the clubs, and in many other centers. It doesn’t matter where and who is practicing. The main thing is that we offer them a good service. It is not that "I am a yoga teacher and I’m good, and like this, not like that." We do care about people, about other creatures, and the environment. The helping hands have more value than just folded hands. Our sense of our life, the purpose of our life, is different. First, that we should know we are human, and human is created by God as a protector, not as a destroyer. Protect. Protect. When we wake up in the morning, we should have the first thought: I am human. Just one word, "I am a human," will change our life because when we are aware that I’m a human, then we know what a human should do and what a human should not do. If someone does the wrong things, if someone hurts someone, does bad things, then we say, "Oh God, what he or she has done is not human. It’s not human." Therefore, when we say that I’m a human, immediately you get a light in your thoughts: I am human. I will not do inhuman acts. Second thought: what makes me human? Not only this body, but my attitude, my behavior, my actions. I should be above the negative thoughts: the greed, anger, hate, jealousy, etc. These negative activities take away our human quality. Therefore, there should be mercy in our heart. The great one will forgive. And a small one, half-knowledge one, will make a noise. Tyāga, renunciation, is very important. So, what makes me human? We will get answers: divine qualities. So, practice to get good quality out of your own consciousness. It is awareness that we turn the awareness towards our inner talents: that we have humbleness, kindness, forgiveness, and renunciation. So humans are protectors, not destroyers. Now, how should I awaken the hidden powers within my body? Every one of us has the same qualities, the same power, the same talents. How to utilize the good qualities and how to remove the bad qualities? In this room, it is dark, very dark, and you come inside and say, "Please, darkness, can you go out? No, please, can you..." You go out, no, but just we put a light on. Within no time, darkness is gone, and we can’t see the darkness, how quickly it disappeared. Similarly, when we put the light of knowledge, light of kindness, light of love, light of humbleness, forgiveness, equal vision, not making differences. That "I am the great, I am the best teacher, I am the master, I know the techniques. What do you know? You don’t know one thing." Who’s telling this? That’s ignorance. So you are only the... ignorance. The great saint Svāmī Śivānandajī of Ṛṣikeś said: "Within you is the ocean of immortality. Within you is the fountain of joy. And within you is the immortal soul. Kill this little ‘I’ and lead divine life." That is yoga. How many years you are practicing yoga, and especially Yoga in Daily Life? How many times you have been with me? I know you through and through, and you know me also through and through. So light is with us in oneness. I know I love you as my best disciples, as humble disciples, as my sisters, as my brothers, and the best spiritual aspirants, and I hope you see me the same way, too. Since we met, we have had only beautiful talks, and these are in each and every cell of the body. You should practice; you will realize that. Ātmā, the liberation. Only practice will not help you. Adore the practice, because practice is only the path, not realization. This life is a journey, not a destination. When the destination comes, the path will disappear. So when self-realization comes, then it becomes one. It’s called knowledge, knower, and object. All three become one. Knowledge: what we want to know. To know is knowledge, and what we want to know is the object. Let’s say God. And who wants to know? Ourself. So the knower, knowledge, and object. These three become one. Then there is no knower, no knowledge, and no object. What is there? Only one. Only that one. There is no jealousy, no hate, no conflict, nothing. So that is our aim, because it is very hard to get human life. There are 8.4 million different kinds of creatures, but one is a human. This is the last milestone. This is the last milestone to the Brahmaloka. But if we miss it, we will fall again into the darkness. So the aim of human life, the purpose of human life, is not only eating, drinking, sleeping, and having children. Khānā, pīnā, bhogānā, paśubhī, parama sujan. This, animals can also do. O human, in you God is speaking. In every heart, God is dwelling. But our adoration is to that heart in which God speaks Himself. So we remove the curtain of ignorance. It’s called mala, vikṣepa, and āvaraṇa. Mala means impurity, impure thoughts: physical impurity, mental impurity, so this is all, the inner and outer impurities. Samāl vikṣepa, the disturbances. Prapañca, worldly problems. And in order to purify this, we have to change our diet and way of living. You know the science of Āyurveda? In Satya Yuga time, when the ocean was churned, the fourteen valuable things came out, and finally there was the nectar, ambrosia. And that was brought by Bhagavān Viṣṇu as Dhanvantari, and he brought the nectar. That was represented as Āyurveda. How beautiful the name Āyurveda is. Āyur, you know what āyur is? Our life spent, long, long life, āyur living. Veda is the knowledge, knowledge of the life. First, we should know the knowledge of our life, knowledge of our body, and that knowledge comes through sāttvic buddhi. Sattva, rajas, and tamas, these three guṇas. Out of this, the fourth one, that is above the guṇas: Tri-guṇā-tītam, above the three guṇas, tasmai śrī-gurave namaḥ—I bow down to that master who is above all these guṇas. So, impurity, many different kinds of impurities. Even when you shake hands, the impurity, the energy is transferring. So in the Eastern world, they all greet like this. You go Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, Indian Airlines, etc. They greet you, Namaste. There are great meanings in it: this hand and this hand. These two hands, one is you and one is me. We are one in the heart. That’s the meaning, and my hand is open. I have no weapon. It’s free, look, and fold it. And no exchange of your energy and my energy. Otherwise, with a sick hand, my bacteria goes to you and your bacteria comes to me. I stretch my hand to greet you, sick hand. Another hand is a pistol; therefore, it’s good to have both hands free. And this only we can see God, give to God. Therefore, it doesn’t matter whom you touch; energy comes, pure or impure. There are many, many things. So yoga, Āyurveda, balancing life. A bird has two wings to fly. One is yoga and one is Āyurveda. This flows to the Paramātmā. It is your life. It is your life; you should live healthy. You live long, and you say to yourself: I am human. I will love all. I will protect all. I will not be cruel to animals, nor to humans. I am here as a human to help all, support all, protect all. Then our last milestone, we will cross it and come into the Brahman. So today somebody showed me one sentence, was talking to the audience and said: Don’t make the mistake again to be reborn. How much suffering will there be? So this is the chance to be liberated. Guru Kṛpāhi Kevalam—only the blessing of Gurudev. It doesn’t matter how much knowledge we have; we are disciples of Gurudev. It doesn’t matter how high a position you have, the president or the prime minister, but for your father and for your mother, you are their child. You are the child of your parents. Parents will always be parents, and a child will always be a child. Guru will always be guru, and disciple will always be disciple. But guru will bless the disciple and give that blessing of being or acting as a guru. He will not give it to you if you ask, "Can you make me guru? Can I be a guru?" No, such cannot become a guru. They become a kangaroo. So, my dear, practice and do your best. Help all. Practice your mantra, come to satsaṅg, and our organizers here, our president and our Tyāgpūrī, and all the many bhaktas here, you have a nice āśram now. I congratulate you for that and am very happy to see you. I bless you in the name of our paramparā, our lineage. It blesses you with good health, a happy and healthy long life, spiritual development, and divine consciousness. Om Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ.
