Sharad Purnima 2015

The root of suffering is acting opposite to our true nature, driven by greed, competition, and attachment. Worldly ambition creates conflict and karma, like companies overproducing or teachers clinging to students. This ignorance prevents the bliss of being. Authentic spirituality requires letting go, giving, and practicing real yoga—a science of body, mind, and soul—not commercial movement. Special days and symbols, like the full moon or rudrākṣa, remind us to live in harmony and utilize nature's gentle energies wisely. True knowledge is in quality, not quantity. Give love and service; happiness and peace will follow.

"For a saint, every day is a Dīvālī or a Christmas, and all seven days are a festival."

"Try to give, do not take. And when we give, we will get it."

Filming location: Vienna, Austria

Shrī Deep Narāyaṇ Bhagavān kī, Shrī Shrī Dev Purīṣa Mahādev kī, Dharm Samrāṭ Satguru Swāmī Madhvalānjī Bhagavān kī, Satya Sanātan Dharma kī Jai. Ānando’ham, Ānando Ānandam, Brahma Ānandam, Ānando’ham, Ānando’ham, Ānandam Brahmaṇam... I am bliss, I am bliss,... I am bliss. Om Satchidānanda, Om Satchidānanda, Om Satchidānanda, Om Satchidānanda, Om Satchidānanda. Om Saccidānanda, Om Ānandoham, Ānandoham, Ānandam Brahmaṇam, Ānandam Brahmaṇam, Ānandam Brahmaṇam. Blessings to all of you. Today is again a beautiful day, and this evening is especially beautiful. Every evening is beautiful. That is why Gurū Nānak Jī said, "For a saint, every day is a Dīvālī or a Christmas, and all seven days are a festival." The śānta, the saints, are in bliss, and in troubles are the worldly people. Why? Because mostly in the world, we do things opposite. We have to go to the north, but we go to the south. We have to go to the east, but we go to the west. So our own thinking, our own desires, our own ambitions, our own jealousy, our own greed—that is the cause of suffering. Greed is a very powerful force. Greed exists because there is a fear of losing something. And greed says, "I want to gain something. I would like to be the first." Some one or two decades ago, we were putting up posters in Vienna. It was not allowed in that place, but we had official permission for A4 size posters. Everyone was going and putting them everywhere. Then another person would come within five minutes and put their poster over it. Some other organization would put theirs on top. Everyone wants to be the first. Yes, everyone wants to be the first. The person putting posters over others is not reading the date; if the date is expired, then it is okay. Even that person has a good ambition, good information, and good things to show or invite through that poster. Others also have good things, so it means you do not care about others. "I want to be first on the top. I want to be the first. I want to have more people on my side, because if others put up posters, maybe people will go somewhere else. So, let them see mine." This is ignorance. This means we do not respect others. And that is a competitive yuga. All the big companies are organizing something, something, something to get first, to sell their production. And that is a problem in the world. The best approach should be: when you have one poster there, you put your poster a little above, and you can put another a little down. Yes, support and understand others. If you are hungry, others are also hungry. And when your stomach is full, it does not mean that everyone’s stomach is full. This competition is a feature of this Kali Yuga, and it is also one of the causes. Why did the economic problems in the world begin? Because the consumers and the producers, the manufacturers, try to give more and more. But the consumers do not use that much. So, what they made was a very clever thought. Businessmen—I really do not want to say—so they said, "How to create competition? How to earn more money? How to sell again and again more?" So, they made a very nice system. The first system: the buffet, eating buffet. Humans were served individually for eating. When you sit at the dining table, then someone comes and serves you. For the animals, they put out the grass, then they open the door so they can go in and eat. Now, this has been compared to the animal culture, and you do not know who has clean hands or not. Who took food from this spoon, and who took from that spoon? Again, there are hygienic problems. After that, what did they do to increase consumption? They put out one basket or a bucket, a garbage bin. And instead of giving good plates and cups, crockery, they make plastic plates, paper plates, and they say, "We do not need to have a worker to remove and clean and serve again. Just eat and throw it." Oh, that is very nice. So, use and throw. Use and throw. Now, many, many companies have manufactured over and above their capacity. Now, people have become aware about the environment, and many people do not use and throw things. So now, manufacturers have produced too much and consumers are fewer, and so companies go bankrupt. Things are lying there, nobody buys them, and so slowly, slowly, like this, it is a karmic process. The same thing happens with my lectures: "More people should come to my program, more should come." In my yoga class, more should come, yes, and the yoga teacher becomes more attached to the student than the student to the teacher. Yes, we have also seen this here: not wanting to let a teacher’s students go to another’s class. Sāgarpurī, do not let them go. He is a student, too. You say, "France and the French do not let go to the pradesh." So this means you have that ego, that greed, that pride, but that is not spirituality. That is not spirituality. You are talking about detachment, vairāgya, that a yogī should renounce. But that yogī who is a yoga teacher cannot renounce; he cannot send one student from the first class to the second class, that is it. So this is the thing: how you are creating so much karma, and this karma becomes like a big rock over a grave. Someone may wake up in the grave and come again into life, but he or she is so weak, cannot lift the rock, the śīla. Similarly, a karmic rock is very difficult to remove. And that is called such a rock falling on you and taking you to the bottom of the ocean, and you cannot come up again—the ocean of worldly karmic things. Therefore, tyāga, tyāga. No attachment. We do have attachment. We do love. Students have love for the master, and the master has love for the student also, but the master should not hold the disciple, saying, "Do not go here and there and there," karmically. So this is the problem we are facing: karma. Therefore, the great ṛṣis said, "Let it go, let it come, and let it go." Water should flow; if it remains in one place, it stinks. But Holy Mā Prabhujī said, "But if the water is like an ocean, then it does not matter. It stays always in the..." the same ocean, because there is purity. So, with our small knowledge, is every day a festival? Those festivals remind us to live in harmony, live in love, live with happiness, live with oneness, and be one with all. When you sit in the bus, and another elderly person comes, or in the metro, what do we young people do? We stand up and let them sit. This is our saṁskṛti, this is our culture, yes or not? And even when someone is entering a door, we say, "Please, you go." First in the lift, please, you go first. Only one exception: do not say, "You go first," if there is a fire or there is a tiger or snakes inside. Then say, "Please, do not go in first. I will go first and check if everything is okay." So this is how we can remove karma. Bhakti, vairāgya, jñāna, tyāga—that is very important. Titikṣā: suffer yourself, but do not let others suffer. This is it; that is called titikṣā. Titikṣā is the principle of jñāna yoga. Many people are teaching yoga; I think in Vienna there must be at least 200 yoga centers. Can you imagine every third person in Vienna practicing yoga? Yes, but which kind of yoga is it? I met a doctor yesterday, a young lady; she is a doctor, and she came with her other doctor friend and said, "I am practicing yoga also." I said, "Very good. Where do you practice?" "At the university." So our yoga teacher said, "Well, we have our classes at the university." So I said, "Is it yoga in real life?" She said, "No, no... I am doing another kind of yoga, energetic." I do not know what energetic yoga is. Then I said, "Do you practice prāṇāyāma?" "I do not know what that is." Then I said, "Do we practice prāṇāyāma like this?" "So no, we do not do nothing. We do like what we call Arabic." Now everybody calls everything yoga. So, we need authentic yogic schools. We do have what we call scientific, systematic yoga, different yogas. These schools—do not think that there is only one yoga school; there are many. The Sivananda yoga, they all practice exactly: āsanas, prāṇāyāmas, concentrations, meditations, etc. So there are many other schools. There are authentic schools, and they teach the whole philosophy. But some just move; for them, it is only commercial. And they say, "Oh, it was good. Go home and take a shower." Oh, that was good. This is okay. You can go jogging. So, the principle, the mental principles, the mental exercises—that is mental yoga, and that is important. Every 12 months there is a full moon, every 12 months there is a dark moon, and every 12 months the moon is either growing or decreasing, and every day it has a spiritual influence on our planet. If the moon remained always full, then we would have to have a psychiatric hospital on every street, because the moon's energy is so strong, many would become crazy, emotional, yes. So, to balance our emotion is that. The moon balances the earth; otherwise, the earth would turn upside down. And so, there are some symbols to balance emotion, to get good emotion, good energy. They are different also; different nature gives us, you know, they are... Rudrākṣa. One-mukhī rudrākṣa, no, Sāgarpurī. And did you see the one-mukhī rudrākṣa? Oh, that is half; it should be full moon, because the one-mukhī rudrākṣa is Śiva himself, and it has much, much energy, great, great things. Uh-huh, I was talking about one-mukhī rudrākṣa, which brings you Lakṣmī, prosperity, and I was touching it, and money came, yeah. So this rudrākṣa represents Śiva, and the moon is the ornament of Śiva, the new moon. So every second or third year is... the 13 months. You know that this year was 13 months. Why? How? Which? Because in 12 months, from 1st December till the 1st December, 12 months, in these 12 months there are 13 full moons. So where are you shifting the 13th moon? Thirteen one. Somewhere you have to shift it. How did it become a full moon? It was not a twin moon. It came so that it is very correct according to mathematics and astrology. That is called jyotiṣa, and the 13th moon is especially energetic, so there are many energies and emotions that are very strong. There are many other qualities which I need not tell you. When you have them, you will feel it. The lost energy comes back, prosperity comes back, and that is rare. The rudrākṣa which have 13 mukhis, when you wear these 13-mukhi rudrākṣas, you will see how strongly they act on your body and on your energy. Suddenly, you will think that you are now again 28 years old. Twenty-eight years, not 80, but 28. Energy in the body, in the joints, and many, many things. That is the rudrākṣa, Śiva. But the 13-mukhi rudrākṣas are not in every rudrākṣa. We have many five-mukhis, but five-mukhis are also different. There is a special rudrākṣa which comes from Nepal and which has seeds in it. And many rudrākṣas are seedless. People were very—how do you call them—clever again. And they produced so many seedless trees, so they do not get—through a whole year, they are giving fruit, but there are no seeds. And so, this small mālā you have, if you move it, there are no seeds. And in my mālā, if you move this, you will hear there are seeds inside. So there are special trees that are still not manipulated. It is bred, and from that tree's yield, which is rare, it costs more money. The 13-mukhi, if you can get one for 5,000 euros, be happy that you have got four times five multiplied energy. So after how many years of searching? I have been searching for 45 years. Now, I got today one very nice rudrākṣa, a one-mukhī rudrākṣa. Can you wait? There is one best rudrākṣa tree in Nepal. It yields, every five years they say, a one-mukhī rudrākṣa. And that goes to the Nepal king. And the Nepal king puts this rudrākṣa in a laḍḍū, eating it in one laḍḍū. And he makes about 2,000 to 3,000 laḍḍūs. And you do not know in which laḍḍū is that rudrākṣa. And he makes a bandarā, inviting many sādhus. And every sādhu gets one laḍḍū. So, in whose luck is that one rudrākṣa? Do you recognize? So, how did it come? Otherwise, they have manipulated many things. Once, someone gave me a very big one-mukhī rudrākṣa. And then I wanted to test it in the water. I put it in water. It floated because there was mud inside. Other real rudrākṣa, cut it and put it everywhere. So there are many fakes. So today is the full moon, and this is called the Śarad Moon. Śarad means the cold. Now the winter will begin. Autumn and winter will begin. Summer went, and today is the Rudra, or the moon, which the whole night especially gives the nectar. In the Bhagavad-gītā, God Kṛṣṇa said, "Through the moon, I enter into vegetation as a nectar, the immortality." So tonight is that moon. So what Indian traditions do: the rice and milk, this source of life and energy. Milk, mother’s milk—no scientist can prepare it. Till today, no scientist can prepare milk. Now they are making artificial milk, but mother’s milk, it does not matter if it is from a cow, goat, sheep, buffalo, elephant, camel, or human mother—their milk, no science can make. And that milk, which comes, comes only from love. And which kind of love? A mother's love. And in that love, in that mother’s milk, there are all kinds of hormones and this and that and proteins and vitamins. Proteins, vitamins—everybody can add them somewhere, but it is something more than this. So, in India we sometimes used to say, when they are fighting each other or something, strong men, boys, they are... so then, I will see who drank his own mother’s milk. Who drank the milk of his mother? Why? Because there is strength, there is energy. And until 30 years, how much? Thirty years, we will say, "Hey boy, little child, 30-year-old man," but still we will say, "Keep quiet, you are a baby." Still on your lips, the mother’s milk is reflecting. Yes. Yes, all these young children who had pure mother’s milk, you see it on their lips. It is a reflection of youth, what we call teenagers. If they drank the pure, their mother’s milk, not mixed... So milk is the life, the energy, the food, except if someone becomes allergic to it. Can one get allergy to mother’s milk? No, but now in this modern world, secondly, rice is one of the oldest grains, and that is why in India, after the tilaka, we put rice, and the rice and milk. This is the first solid food which we Indians give to our child after five or six months, when the first teeth come. That is it. So this kṣīra, we call it kṣīra. You can say milk rice. And this, today, we make rice and put it, if possible, in the moonlight the whole night. If not, it does not matter, at home, because moonlight is everywhere, transparent everywhere. And then you eat this. It is for your health, for your good luck, and for your spiritual development. The ṛṣis have been doing so. Today is especially that day. So it began early morning or somewhere in the afternoon; the constellation moved, but still in the universe or in space, that vibration of the full moon is there. And also, today is our beloved Gurujī’s sannyāsa dīkṣā. Then Mahāprabhujī gave him the sannyāsa dīkṣā. So, this is how to observe every day. There is something every day, in some way, in countries. Some time ago, a saint was born. It does not matter if it is the Islamic world, or Christians, or Africa, or America, or India, or China—the whole world. There are many holy mothers and holy fathers. So every day is a golden day. But those who are not aware of this, for them every day is an iron day. So the saints have every day a golden day. Sadā Dīvālī Santake. Every day is Dīvālī. Sato bar tehar. They have a festival every seven days. Oh man, do you not have enough opportunities every day to be happy? Live happily. If the whole world did like this, peace would be there. Try to give, do not take. And when we give, we will get it. More and more, more and more. With one hand we give, it will be more. We gave with two hands, so we give with two hands, then it is more and more. Coming, coming. If we take water from the well, then more comes—fresh water, good water. If we keep it, will it become stinky? It will; algae grows, fish grow, and so on. There is no... So knowledge is that within us, when we give love, that love makes everyone happy. There was a time, and even now there are some countries and some people, they do not lock their door. They just go. Nobody comes to steal there. If someone finds a money pocket on the floor, they will just hang it there. That person who comes will find it again. Still, there are some people like that in some countries. And in some countries, they do not hang it there, and they do not find it on the ground; they take it from your pocket, and with such good technique, you do not feel how it goes from your pocket, that is it. So give, give... Without giving, I will not give you serve life and life, so we are the lucky ones that we have all these signs, all these rules, all this about yoga that we have to learn. And luckily, we have so many young children now, and they are going to become the teachers, and the elderly, all teachers who are above 45, in their retirement. They should be only looking on from the front row, no? Others will come teaching. That is why, you know, every day from Ratchala our young generation is coming, and from Hungary. So Austrians should take care. Yes, they should also. We need. We are already, for 10 years ago, we are in retirement. Rādhā and I, we are working okay. We are working, how to say, the extra hours. But we have now the young ones. Just to give them the key, then that is all. Yes, they are very, very expert teachers we have. So, elderly teachers, they have nothing to do but bless them. Bless. Say, "Please teach like this, be happy like this, open the door, sit down there, clean there." That is it. Let the young generation come, my friend. Yes, that will make us very happy. So, Gholī Gurujī’s sannyāsa dīkṣā was very great. Read in Lilāmṛta how it was, and all these full moons. And seek somewhere if you can get a 13-mukhi rudrākṣa. And then hang it on your neck. Then you will see what it gives you. Afterward, tell me. After about six months, thirteen months, then you will see how it is. So, for thirteen months, you have to wear it. When will there be 13 months? This year was already 13 months, so now in two years it will be so. Until then, you will get young, not old. Physically we are getting old, but mentally your mind will be fresh with a lot of wisdom, a lot of energy, love to… Also, there are many, many rudrākṣas. Each rudrākṣa has its specialties. So next time we will talk about other rudrākṣas and other stones. There is energy. There is power. It is a very gentle energy. So Mother Earth has made so many things. We should just utilize them. Just use them. Do not abuse them. That is it. Then meditation will be peaceful, and our ātmā will be happy and will be one with Paramātmā. So yoga is a science of body, mind, consciousness, and soul. If you practice yoga, practice authentic first-hand teacher’s teachings. Just to give ten-day retreats and come back with a yoga certificate, that is a joke. So, there are many yoga books. You think, and you take any postures, and you try to teach. That is, you can practice the whole book, but still you do not have that nerve, that nāḍī. Nāḍī vedya, I can also feel the nāḍī, how the heartbeat is, but like our professor. Sadeshmukh, our Ayurvedic professor, Sadeshmukh, he reads our nāḍī, vibration, and he can diagnose our kidney, our liver, our intestines, everything. That knowledge is knowledge. But everyone says Ayurveda, this is also this chai, it is also Ayurveda. But when, and how, and what is the quantity? In Ayurveda, it is not important, quantity, the quality, a little. And so is our knowledge. It is quality, not the quantity, that I read this book and I read that book. I know what the master said. Practice it. All kinds of illnesses can be healed or controlled through yoga practice. There is a lot of negative energy in the body. When you see your face is swollen, there is that. If you press your nostrils, it comes, used energy out fat. Many, many. Śaṅkha prakṣālana, kuñjala kriyā, netī kriyā, prāṇāyāma, and healthy food. So, I wish you all the best. And today is the Śarat Pūrṇimā. And we have made for you that kṣīra. You know, we do not forget, so we give you a lot of energy today. Those who are driving home, please be careful driving and do not fall asleep. There will be a lot of energy in your body. Yes, you will feel it. Look at the moon, but do not look too long. Drive safely. All the best. Deep Nand Bhagavān. Devīśvar Mahādev. Madhav Krishna Bhagwan. Sanātana Dharma Kī Jai.
