Purify yourself!

The holy city of Ujjain is a center of divine light and consciousness. This place is described as the first appearance of Śiva's light and the navel of the universe. The gathering occurs during the Mahākumbha Melā, where sacred rivers unite in consciousness. The human condition is one of profound impurity, both physical and mental. The body and intellect are filled with pollution and negative tendencies. This inner corruption is the true focus, not external judgments. Personal effort through sādhanā, mantra, and the fire of yoga is the only path to burn past karmas and achieve purification. Surrender through bhakti is essential. Do not compromise or seek excuses; begin the inner work now.

"First, look within thyself at how much you are polluted."

"Only one thing in human life now begins: make your mantra, your sādhanā, your kriyā yoga. There is no other way."

Filming location: Ujjain, India

Dear sisters, brothers, and spiritual seekers, This divine blessing is coming from the holy city of Ujjain, the city of Mahākāleśvara Bhagavān and the sacred river Śiprā. It is the time of the Mahākumbha Melā, and as you know, millions of people are gathering. Approximately seventy million people took their sacred baths the day before yesterday and yesterday. In the Mahāśiva Purāṇa, which describes the glory of Swayambhū Śiva—where he himself manifests—one of those places is this Ujjain. It signifies the first appearance of the light of Śiva. Yesterday, one of the head priests of the temple said that in the time of dark space, the first light that appeared is called Śivajyoti, right here in this place where you are sitting now. According to astrology and astronomy, it is said Ujjain is the navel, the center point of the universe as well as of the earth. There are many temples and many different goddesses here. The glory, the spirituality, the energy—all of it is indescribable. To breathe the air from this soil is, for us, a blessing. It is a holy, very holy place. You have seen this in the Mahāśivapurāṇa, which we will study at the very beginning, after the Rāmāyaṇa is completed. In the Mahāśivapurāṇa, there is a beautiful story about a farmer’s child—a long story I will tell sometime. He became a Śiva bhakta, worshipping the Śiva liṅga. The Śiva Liṅga means the entire universe, with its millions of endless solar systems we do not know. That which covers the whole atmosphere is the liṅga. That Liṅga means consciousness, awareness, light, and energy. Consciousness, awareness, light, and energy—this represents the divine, the Liṅga. People often understand it differently because it is Swayambhū. That Śreya Bhuvu appears from space, and it is said that the line of the Makra begins from here. We are Aaye Viraji Bhatti. So we are here, the lucky ones, the fortunate ones, the blessed ones, the happiest ones, that we could come here on this occasion of the Mahākumbha. Ujjain is definitely holy, as is every place where the Kumbh Melā takes place. Yesterday, our respected His Holiness Achārya Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara of our Mahānirvāṇī Akhāḍā said, "All the rivers flowing on this holy earth of India are uniting." And it is that consciousness, that spirituality, flowing through them. So every holy river where we worship during the Kumbh Melā is holy. Do not think about this water, how it is. Do not see the material quality in the water; you should see the divine quality in that water. If you see impurities in your body, in a certain part—if a doctor were to open it—you could not see how dirty it is. Now, what is flowing through our body, through our intestines, through our nerves, through our arteries? Impurity. Why are you thinking the rivers are polluted? First, look within thyself at how much you are polluted. Yet, though it is like that, within you is the spiritual awareness, the spiritual consciousness—that jīvātmā and ātmā. That quality of the ātmā is the reality. That is what we are searching for; we would like to realize that ātmā, ātma sākṣātkār. Ātmā Jñāna, self-realization—to know thyself. So when you think of thyself, which part of thyself? If you think of your body, it is the most impure, dirty. In that way, the fish is cleaner. The body of the fish is cleaner than humans, the animals, the buffaloes, the deer, the rabbits. Their bodies are cleaner because humans do not nourish that sāttvic and pure food; we mix everything. So then see all the tissues in your body. What is flowing in your veins, in your nerves, the blood in your heart, in your lungs, in your sinuses—also impure. Well, let’s come to your intellect. In your intellect, how many negative vṛttis do you have, as Patañjali said? Through practicing yoga, you can clean your vrittis. Without purifying the vrittis, you cannot achieve the level of yoga. The human first thinks negative, and then they may come to the positive. So, it doesn’t matter who is who. Are you thinking, "Jealousy, hate, greed, anger—how are the humans behaving? We are lost. Everything is completely destroyed"? If so, yesterday... Jay, yesterday and also before, the Rāmāyaṇa, yes? Did you see the Rāmāyaṇa? And now you came to the wedding of God Rāma and his brothers. Not only the wedding of Rāma but also of Sītā. You know what it means for a human to marry, and how much is prepared, understood, and what you are doing. Today you are married, and tomorrow maybe on the beach you will find somebody else and say, "Bye bye." How much impurity do you have in your body? Let’s come directly to you. You know, the women, ladies, how much garbage you have in your garbage bucket, yes. That’s why, mostly, women... have cancer, and especially on those organs, those parts, because of impurities, not good energy, not honest energy—it’s not love. So when Rāma is married, or anybody, that human marries only once. It doesn’t matter, woman or man. Animals—some animals also marry only once. But otherwise, whenever there is a possibility... I am coming very direct. How are you going to purify this energy that you have in your body? When someone touches your body, energy is going, different energy in your body. Everything. So it doesn’t matter how much you think positive and pure, but still the impurity is there, the dirt is there. Aneek means endless lives, endless births. You wash your mind from those impurities, but the spots are so nasty, nasty. You cannot remove that spot. Only one thing in human life now begins: make your mantra, your sādhanā, your kriyā yoga. There is no other way. Your money will not help you. Your property will not help you. Nothing will help you. Only now you can turn to thyself and do something. Make a saṅkalpa on such a beautiful, divine bank of the river Śiprā. Purify thyself. So do not think that the river is polluted. First, know thy river, how it’s polluted. The lake is polluted, but how is your lake polluted? All the pollution that is coming is from the human mind. Humans have created this, or not? So, śanikṣuk ke liye tumhārā janam janam duḥkh pāyegā. Śāṇik sukha—a very temporary joy for some seconds or minutes; you will suffer many, many lives. Śāṇik sukha. Therefore, use your viveka. Viveka, vairāgya, Satsampati, mumukṣu—these are the four sādhanās according to Jñāna Yoga. Now what to do? It is in the body already. Only we have to press our button; it will explode. How are you going to purify? Surrender, surrender, surrender. So through that bhakti, through the sādhanā, we can do it. Do not compare with culture. Do not make your culture guilty. It’s Indian culture, it’s European culture, it’s African culture. Do not run behind the culture. Think of that: no compromise and no excuse. That is important. So think and do the sādhanā. Actually, what you should have done, you did it. And that is already so heavy, you do not know how you will purify. Now, if you begin again something, then it’s lost. So it is said, "Oh my darling, lost and gone forever." So sādhanā, yoga—therefore it is said: yoga agni karma dagdhani. Through the fire of yoga, the sādhanā, the strength, we can burn all the seeds of the karmas. That’s it. So, I am very happy that you are here. Welcome. Many are leaving again already, and many of our brothers and sisters are coming. We are welcoming them. And you will go tomorrow and take the prasād and think over what I said. Now you should say, "Say, finished. Enough. Then what Gurudev said, that’s it." So it is said nicely in the bhajan. There are many, many bhajans. But there are some bhajans that are very particular. How is that bhajan? How? How is that? Kyō? Milā. That’s it. Yes. Hey, don’t know like this. Don’t make a jogging. Each word you should digest, understand, understand. Know the meaning, digest, feel. Otherwise, it’s like you just swallow down and hurry home; you don’t know what is the taste. So, bhajans slowly. Only this one sentence can change our entire life. See you tomorrow, all dear bhaktas here and there. Bless you and enjoy. And sending you the blessing of Bhagavān Mahākāleśvara from Ujjain Nagarī. Om Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ...
