Mastering the subtle energies

Yoga is a practical path, not a theory. Survival in this age requires practice, not just philosophy. The current era is governed by material illusion, where excessive pursuit of wealth distracts from true purpose. True richness is devotion, which accompanies the soul eternally. Modern yoga often becomes mere physical exercise, missing its core aim of unifying the individual soul with the divine. Practice must be a systematic science, beginning with the body and advancing like an engineering discipline. Mastery then extends to emotions and thoughts through detachment and renunciation. This inner engineering leads to harmony and ultimate self-knowledge.

"The richest one is that one who has nothing but has bhakti—guru bhakti, devotion towards God."

"Yoga in daily life is a science of body, mind, and consciousness. Harmony of the body, mind, and soul to come finally to the highest destination."

All dear devotees of Om Śrī Alagpurījī Siddhāpīṭha Paramparā, welcome to all of you here and to those in other countries. We are together again via webcast as well as in our beautiful ashram in Strelky. Yoga is a practical path; it is not a theory. I always remember some philosophers said, "A ton of theory is nothing compared to a gram of practice." We cannot survive without oxygen, without water, without nourishment, and so on. Similarly, if we are to survive this Kali Yuga and attain Brahmajñāna or Ātmajñāna, we must practice. Yes, yoga has now become a part of human life around the world, but again, it is misunderstood. This Kali Yuga is a yuga of māyā. Māyā means illusion, ignorance, and darkness. Māyā means no knowledge, and that means money. This Kali Yuga is now governed by material life. We know we cannot live without money, and therefore we should work and we should have. But too much of anything is everywhere prohibited. All humans know that when they die, they can’t take anything with them. Our money in the bank, our money somewhere under the earth, our house, our properties—everything will remain here. Everything we have, we leave. We go into the forest, nowhere. Life in this world is two days: one was yesterday, and the last is today. There will never come a tomorrow; it will always be today. Though we know this, and all great people know this, even those who went to the spiritual path suddenly get a test of wealth and money. They forget their sādhanā, their guru bhakti, their humbleness and kindness. There is competition: who should be the richest one? The richest one is that one who has nothing but has bhakti—guru bhakti, devotion towards God, towards the Gurudev. That is the richest of the rich, because that will go with that Jīvātmā, yuga after yuga, in every century, in every life. It will go with you as wealth, as richness, as happiness. That is devotion; that is good karma, good actions. But now everyone is running behind money, though we know this is not a practical thing—only theories. So, though people begin to practice yoga, unfortunately it is developing in the world as a kind of yoga that is commercial. Yoga has become just like gymnastics, like aerobics, etc. What is yoga? Jīvātmā and Ātmā, their oneness: this Jīva becomes one with Śiva. That kind of practicing of yoga is the practical path, and that is the technique which everyone knows, but they don’t want to practice. To je Amṛti chod visko khāta. They deny the nectar and drink the poison. So, this worldly māyā is that poison, and nectar is the devotion, bhakti. It is a beautiful bhajan from a great saint, and that saint is saying, "O my Gurudev, please bless me with bhakti." This blessing I need, but we call that we give some donation. "O Gurudev, O Gurudev, give me the donation of devotion. Bhakti ro dāna datā." Datā means giver. "O Lord, O Gurudev, give me devotion. Janam dhare vishru nahi. And in every life, I will not forget, and I will not be separated from you. Ki sheva, let me serve thy lotus feet." That is that. Now, in this Kali Yuga, if one wants to come through, then it is that bhakti—bhakti towards all. Devotion towards plants, forests, water, mountains, animals, and even towards enemies. Yes. That’s why I think Jesus said, when someone gives you sleep on the chick, so the other chick... and they say, "Thank you. Oh God, forgive them. They don’t know what they do." What does this mean? Forgiveness is a devotion, and for that, one has to awaken that kind of awareness within one’s own consciousness. There are many different techniques of yoga: physical exercises, but systematically. Nowadays, people think, "I want to do that posture and this one, and standing on one hand and standing on one leg and standing on one head," and I don’t know what its goal is. The practice of āsanas and prāṇāyāmas is like one of the best engineers who is constructing something perfectly. Only that engineer can do it. If others will do it, the building will collapse. And that engineer will count the capacity and the balance of the building. According to that, it begins from the foundation. So we must have the solid foundation of our life through the principles of the exercises and nourishment. You can compare it with the modern world and modern words: this is called engineering. Or you can say doctoring—that you are your own doctor. You should know what you should eat and what you should drink, that which should help your body. Go to the doctor as a friend; don’t go there like a patient. That means that you practice yoga. So, yoga in daily life is like engineering. It is the outer and inner engineering. But people have no time. They want to jump immediately to die into the river. So you can see people who are practicing extreme postures of yoga, some things which are not yoga, called a torturing of the body. That’s not accepted. But if you can do that posture, your body should be prepared and mastered—and for what? Do you think you will get liberation? No. If through the torturing and twisting of the body you get Brahmajñāna, then I will also today try to twist everything. If I cannot twist myself, I will ask you to help me pull my hand to this side and put my leg to that side. Teach a system from kindergarten until university. You know, when the child is a few years old, you cannot ask the child or expect the knowledge of the university. You and me, all of us, in the beginning when we had to write A and B, you know, we were trying to write like this. And we, parents, were proud, and we take this paper and put it somewhere, saying, "Oh, my science was writing first A and B." And the child, how much energy does that child need? That is the beginning, and that’s why this yoga and life are simple exercises. This is for the beginning of the child who is going to be passing the university. It takes time for a tree to grow. So yoga in daily life is that scientific system, practicing every day. Then comes the inner yoga, that you can also call inner engineering. The body is healthy, perfect, but emotion is not healthy. The mental is not healthy. There are many, many problems, what we call the psychic problems. And for that, you need a perfect engineer, an inner engineer. The best engineer will throw away the material which is not good. And we will say, "No, no, use it please, don’t worry, put it inside your wall." The engineer will say, "No." The engineer needs perfect material. And therefore, when you practice yoga in daily life and realize your body’s abilities and the well-being of your physical body—what is good for your body—then you touch your emotions. And it is very hard to renounce an emotional attachment. There was one very nice young couple, and unfortunately the girl left him. The man is ready to commit suicide. What would you say about this? This means there is no mastery of your emotions. Now, it is already, you know, how strong is your inner building? It is collapsing. Don’t blame the Vasanta who have demolished our temple of Mahāprabhujī. That temple, the peak of the temple, the tower, took away. It means that it has cut your head. Why? Because that was not an engineer. He or she did not understand. So this is a second step to mastery: the subtle energy and feelings, the thoughts. It doesn’t matter what it is. And that comes through the practice of mantras, prayers, concentration trainings. So there is a call: tyāga, renunciation. My dear, it’s not easy to renounce. Are you ready to renounce anything? No, we can’t renounce. It means we are a test. And as long as we are a test, we cannot be going high up. So we have to become detached. Attachment is like, you know, you have a very nice pizza with thick cheese on it. And you break the slice of the pizza, and the cheese is going like this. So the attachment will go long and long, even when you die. Both sides, but sooner or later it will detest. So first training, learning, engineering, self-engineering means detachment. Tyāga, tyāga... Detest, renounce, renounce... renounce and enjoy. Otherwise, it will not be possible. Enter the kingdom of God through tyāga. My Holy Gurujī said, "So without renunciation, you know, you cannot have what you want with attachment. One day it will go out." Where there is love, there is oneness. And where there is jealousy, there is attachment. And that attachment leads to suffering. And love leads to joy, happiness, oneness. So tyāga, renunciation. That’s called vairāgya. Vairāgya means renounce everything. And vairāgya cannot be achieved without satsaṅg. Vairāgya nahī ho vahā, be na satsaṅg. Vairāgya nahī ho vah, be na satsaṅg. Without satsaṅg means a company with the positive people, with the good people who have good knowledge, who have good habits, good thoughts, good aims. That’s it. It is said, if you learn a bad habit with someone, then it is it. It’s easy to get rid of an enemy. It is easy to get free from the enemy, but it is very hard to get rid of a bad habit. Alcohol, when one becomes alcoholic, it’s very hard to give up, or any kind of drugs. This is not good for your life achievement. Tyāga, vairāgya, bhakti, and jñāna, the knowledge. Knowledge is that where there is no ignorance. Then you are a perfect engineer. So practice, practice, practice detachment. Suddenly, you will be so happy. Finally, you got rid of all burdens. You are using what you need, that’s all. Don’t go above that. Then comes the very subtle energy, the subtle body, and that’s called the sukshma śarīra. A very perfect sculptor, who can carve everything perfectly. An engineer cannot do it; the artist can do it. May I give the instruction what to do, but the artist will make the carving. That’s called "design thy life inner." And that comes through the chakras and kuṇḍalinī. The different petals in your consciousness, in your awareness, and what beautiful petals of your life. And similarly, you will continue your life to become perfect and in oneness with the Supreme One. And, well, about 5,000, 4,000 meters height or a little more than 4,000 meters. But I could see 7,500 meters, the peak of the mountain. And all these high peaks of the mountains were surrounded. And each mountain has its name and glory. So, can you imagine, between all these mountains, I was sitting there. It was about one kilometer distance around, every different type. Two kilometers, three kilometers, five kilometers. And evening after sunset, there was a prayer, so I was doing the prayer and some bhaktas were with me. After half an hour after the sunset, it was dark, and suddenly you see in the mountains some kind of lightning. I looked everywhere. Not one single cloud. No lightning in the clouds. Beautiful, clear sky and stars. And there was such beautiful energy and lightning and indescribable other loka, other world. That I will tell you in the next webcast. So this is within us and outside of us. So yoga is life, part of life. And my experience is about 55 years of yoga in daily life. I began with my father, and of course, with the Gurujī. So yoga in daily life is a science of body, mind, and consciousness. Harmony of the body, mind, and soul to come finally to the highest destination, Ātmā-jñāna. So let our inner engineering techniques—we call techniques, some call engineering, and some call it mastering, and some call it oneness—so let us work on ourselves. Therefore, it is said, Holī Gurujī said one very nice bhajan, the technique. He talks about those techniques. So that glory, the beauty, the atmosphere, the energy is indescribable. So tomorrow, I will show you a few pictures, slides, and what I’m talking about regarding that mountain. Wait. Slowly, slowly, digest everything first, okay? But this, our inner engineering, the inner beauty, the inner divinity, the inner joy—nowhere you can get it. It is within thyself. Know thyself, who you are, and that is yoga. In daily life, it leads you there slowly, slowly, slowly. Pomaali, pomaali. Om Śānti, Śānti, Śānti.
