The original knowledge about the way to the Atma

A satsang discourse on the science of prāṇa and the subtle body.

"Human life is given for the attainment of Self-realization. The sādhanā, the yoga, the meditation, the mantra, the spiritual path—this is the way to the Self."

"Yoga is the science of body, mind, and consciousness. Therefore, yoga gives harmony of body, mind, and soul."

A spiritual teacher delivers a talk on the vital importance of satsang and the yogic science of prāṇa. He explains the role of the nāḍīs (energy channels), particularly focusing on the Vajra Nāḍī as a source of immunity and balance, comparing it to an electrical earthing system. The discourse details the benefits of specific practices like Vajrāsana and Khāṭū Praṇām for health and meditation, weaving in analogies from modern life and traditional teachings.

Om Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpa Nārāyaṇam. Om Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpa Nārāyaṇam. Haṁsabhādas Prabhu Śaraṇāpāyaṇam. Oṁ Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpanārāyaṇam. Śrī Dīpa Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Kī Jai. Alak Purījī Mahādeva Kī Jai. Devādhi Deva Deveśvara Mahādeva Kī Jai. Dīpna Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavān Kī Jai. Om Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ. Today is a very auspicious day. We are fortunate to receive the benefit of satsaṅg. Sat Sudhare Sat Saṅg Pahi. Therefore, today is the best day. Every day is good, but blessed are those who can attend satsaṅg. A foolish, ignorant person can become a great scholar or a knowledgeable being through satsaṅg. It means keeping the company of good friends, with truth, honesty, and strong willpower. Never give up that spiritual path, for human life is given for the attainment of Self-realization. The sādhanā, the yoga, the meditation, the mantra, the spiritual path—this is the way to the Self. Self-inquiry, ātmanubhavati, ātma-anubhūti. Ātmā kā jñāna, ātmā kā sākṣātkāra, vahī ātmanubhūti, aparokṣa-anubhūti. Ādi Guru Bhagavān Śaṅkarācārya speaks of Aparokṣa-anubhūti. He describes beautifully what is reality and what is not. Reality is that which is everlasting; non-reality is temporary. Even if something lasts for a yuga, after that yuga, one must go again. But that Brahman, that Ātmā, that knowledge, is forever. How to attain that? Guru Kripāhi Kevalam. When you study the whole year, at the end, your teacher, professor, or principal examines your work and gives a stamp of approval. Similarly, all our karmas from our whole life, good or bad—we do not know them. Only that Parabrahman, Paramātmā, Gurudeva gives the stamp. Mokṣa Mūlaṁ Guru Kṛpā. Sometimes there is an examination (parīkṣā). We are all going through it. Sometimes it is warm, sometimes it is cold. Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa says, "Hot and cold, don’t worry." But if you worry, you can start your fan. Our Gurudeva gives us a comfortable life, yet many people are unhappy. If they face difficulty tomorrow, they may not come. This means we lack the tapasyā to endure. One who endures situations is a yogī. We were speaking of the ātmā, ātma-jñāna. For that, we need a power, and that power is called prāṇa. What is prāṇa? Sometimes it is difficult to know if Prāṇa is Jīva or Jīva is Prāṇa. What is the difference? We say, "Hey Prāṇanāth, you are our life," not "Hey Jīvanāth." That is different. Now, consider the internet. It is an imitation of the human body. In the human body, there are 72,000 channels (nāḍīs). Through these, our consciousness, awareness, feelings, and being flow. Each is connected to different organs. Take the liver, for example. It is a chemical factory. Whatever goes into our āmāśaya, it makes juices and hormones from there. This body is a factory for making medicines. Those who drink alcohol, too much coffee, very little water, who move less, or eat too much fat—for them, it is problematic. For growing children, it is different. In our language, we say "hands dry" or "hands full." When children wash their hands and they get dry, they feel hungry because they are growing. They need strength for bones, muscles, and the body. That is why they must eat a lot. If you eat a lot, then all that energy, prāṇāyāma, goes away. If you think well, read well, and exercise well, then through yoga, the prāṇa circulating in our body is balanced. Therefore, growing children should have good nutrition—butter, oil, and the food needed for bodily development. Consider the liver. What a machine God has made, producing so many different hormones! If the liver is damaged, a person can die in a few days. That is why those who drink alcohol, consume tobacco, gudkā, and smoke (dhūmrapāna) damage their liver. The energy, the prāṇāyāma we need, develops in our body. Is it targeted at a specific organ like the liver? But the liver is not the whole government. There is a president, a vice president, a prime minister, ministers—a whole parliament. What about the kidneys (gurda)? They can also be damaged. God made this beautiful organ that filters everything. It takes one to two hours to clean the blood. If it is not cleaned after two days, it must be cleaned by the kidneys and blood, which is dangerous and can cause infection. God has given the body immunity. Immunity is like the BSF, the Border Security Force. If the BSF is weak, everything will be disturbed. So, how to build immunity? That too is Prāṇa. We have designed a yoga exercise especially called Khāṭū Praṇām. Sūrya Namaskāra and Khāṭū Praṇām are as different as day and night. Sūrya Namaskāra develops, activates, and maintains the system in the best condition. It works with Vāṇḍāḍī, Vajranāḍī, Iḍā, Piṅgalā, Suṣumnā. These are the three main nāḍīs. The 72,000 nāḍīs are primarily balanced by iḍā, piṅgalā, and suṣumṇā. Through them, cosmic light, prāṇa, comes. Both prāṇa and apāna function in the body. When a person is very critical and strict—'no' means no and 'yes' means yes—he is like a yogī, an engineer. If they construct a building, there must be a particular wire called earthing. Earthing connects to the earth. See how yoga connects to modern science, and modern science is researched and used for our betterment. But if the original is destroyed, everything is destroyed. The earth is our body: pṛthvī, ākāśa, jala, agni, vāyu. Now, earthing: if the earthing is weak or not connected properly, and electricity from clouds strikes the house, the house will break, burn, and be destroyed. It is very dangerous. But if the earthing wire is properly installed, no matter how much electricity comes, that single wire will balance and protect the whole building. It will take all that energy into the earth. Hari Om Tat Sat. True or not, yogīs? Yes. So you must be strict—yes, but sometimes not with yourself. Now, the Vajra Nāḍī is the earthing nāḍī. If your Vajra Nāḍī is not strong, not active, if there is no relief, then immunity will start to decrease. If immunity decreases, the body becomes weak. Then what will happen? Infections will come. There will be fever, cold, cough, and many things because the immunity is not there. The BSF army, the battalions, are gone. Where did the battalions go? The battalion was finished in the butter. When immunity is weak, it means your Vajranāḍī is not functioning. When Vajranāḍī becomes weak, you may have a brain attack, paralysis (lakwa), and generally it happens from the left side. The left side has Iḍā, the right side has Piṅgalā, but the attack happens from the Piṅgalā side, not from the Iḍā Nāḍī side. Yet it affects the left side, as yoga tells us. It moves like a serpent—that Kuṇḍalinī, or what you call Iḍā and Piṅgalā. Suṣumnā is straight, and Iḍā-Piṅgalā goes serpentine. They go to the end of the spinal column, where there is a very subtle, invisible knot. This is not a physical effect. Even if surgery is performed, the energy of iḍā and piṅgalā remains, and then Vajranāḍī—Vajranāḍī begins the strongest prāṇa. A huge tree's height and branches must be matched by the depth of its roots holding inside, or Vajranāḍī. The origin of Vajranāḍī and the origin of Iḍā-Piṅgalā is from the base of the brain. It reflects from left and right, and Suṣumnā goes through the center. But all three nāḍīs begin from the back of the head. If you fall there, you may die or be injured; your balance will be lost. These three nāḍīs carry prāṇa, receiving cosmic light. But the light is so strong—how to control it? First is jñāna, Gurudeva's grace (kṛpā), but through that earthing power, the earthing channel that begins there and ends at the base of the spinal column. Where we speak of the kriyā, the śakti, the Kuṇḍalinī—now Vajra Nāḍī begins between the big toe and the second toe. Vajra Nāḍī starts from between the thumb and the index finger. In the middle of the thumb and finger, the Ṛṣis, Munīs, Saints, and Mahātmās wear wooden shoes (khaḍāv). If your shoes are dry, you could also conduct electricity, but you will not get a shock because it has earthing. That earthing does not pass through the middle of the wood. If there is something else, then it's all just talk. The way that earthing blocks—that was one point. You never know what kind of energy is coming from the earth—sometimes good, sometimes bad. It is healthier. Those who wear khaḍāv wear two types: either a paṭṭa, but that is not real; now there is safety. The khaḍāv that is worn, that wooden peg, sits between the thumb and index finger, and between the big toe and second toe. There is a wooden nail between the big toe and the second toe. That awakens our Vajranāḍī and keeps our immunity in good condition. This is paramount. You should know that the prāṇa coming from the Vajranāḍī controls and blocks all attacks from different kinds of prāṇa. Prāṇa, apāna, samāna, udāna, vyāna—there are five prāṇas and five upa-prāṇas. So, Khāṭū Praṇām, which we do: we first sit in Vajrāsana. Why is it called Vajrāsana? Because it influences the Vajranāḍī. Now you understand. Vajranāḍī is affected when we sit in Vajrāsana. Then it goes through the foot, from the bone to the knees, and up to the Mūlādhāra. These two parts of the body—the legs—balance walking and thinking. Movement goes through our two legs, balancing that. But ordering and awareness come through our brain. The torso, abdomen, and thorax are other parts. Then both prāṇa and apāna must come to the navel. When the navel is attended to, the Vajrā Nāḍī and immunity become very clear and strong. You can easily enter meditation. By doing Khaṭu Praṇām, tiredness is relieved, immunity increases, clarity increases, and sleep improves. Vajrāsana is especially influential during intense times because it is near the navel. After eating, sit for 5 or 10 minutes in Vajrāsana. You will have no digestive problems, etc. Yoga is the science of body, mind, and consciousness. Therefore, yoga gives harmony of body, mind, and soul. Health for body, mind, and soul: physical, mental, social, and spiritual health is maintained through the scientific system of yoga in one's life. Otherwise, you are only doing yoga to stretch the body, giving time to stretch your muscles. It will give you energy, you will be relaxed, and children will have better concentration to learn. Today, it is enough. I will stop my talk here. The next webcast will be Sunday or Monday. You will have a rest, which is sometimes best. But you will do the Khāṭū Praṇām. Every day, children, everyone, at least five rounds. If you do it, it is the best. Khāṭu Praṇām. We have added some postures especially to affect the navel (nābhi). The Kuṇḍalinī power is there. Amṛta is here. Where? In the navel. Then it develops into the Bindu Cakra. Life begins and goes from the navel. Next time we will speak further about prāṇa. Prāṇa is life. Prāṇa is everywhere. There are many yogīs who automatically, or through sanyogavās, have prāṇa nourishment. There is one Sanyāsī, sixty-four years old. He doesn’t drink or eat anything. She is very active. She wears clothes like a woman, but is a man. She had a vision that she is Śakti. So here she is naked, here she wears the same clothes, but she is great. We will try next time. We will come. We will bring her to the garden. She will come. Then she will teach everyone. There is no need to eat food. Then, if they give prasāda, take it and add it to the kheer. Oh, mother, people are in a mess. Where did you eat the laḍḍū? So today, I take this opportunity to rest. I wish you all the best. Dear brothers, sisters, devotees, dear ones, all the best and the blessings of the Śrī Alak Purījī Siddhapīṭha Paramparā. Om Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpa Nārāyaṇam. Om Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpa Sabadāśa Prabhu Śaraṇaparāyaṇam. Sabadāśa Prabhu Nārāyaṇam. Om Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpa... Rāyaṇam om namaḥ śrī prabhūdīp Rāyaṇam ham śabdāsa prabhūsara Rāyaṇam ham śabdāsa prabhūsara Rāyaṇam om namaḥ śrī prabhūdīp Rāyaṇam ham śabdāsa prabhūsara. Look to the Holy Gurujī’s mudrā and face. How beautiful. Put on Guruji’s photo, but he’s not there yet. Very good. Very well, and what then? You know, suddenly something will change in life, yes. Suddenly everything is changing in life, yes. So devotees, children, they fold hands and say, "Om Namah Śrī Prabhu Dīpanārāyaṇam. Om Namah Śrī Prabhu Dīpanārāyaṇam..." Oṁ Namaḥ Śrī Prabhupāda. Oṁ Namaḥ Śrī Prabhupāda... Oṁ Namaḥ Śrī Prabhudeepā.
