You are the king

Yoga is a mighty tree of oneness. Jñāna Yoga is its branches, the beauty of non-dual knowledge. Rāja Yoga is the trunk, the strength and discipline of mastery. Bhakti Yoga is the humble devotion of the branches, offering shelter and service. Karma Yoga is the roots, the selfless action that supports and nourishes the whole. The tree is the organization, the body, the spiritual company. Its greatest danger is internal decay. When its own members—like wood becoming an axe handle—join with a destructive force, they provide the strength for its fall. A Rāja Yogī must be eternally alert, observing with inner and outer eyes to maintain the health of the entire system. The king is the inner Self, governing the kingdom of the body and mind through discipline. All yogas are one.

"Jñāna Yoga is the beauty of the branches. Rāja Yoga is the strength of the trunk of the tree."

"Unfortunately, my own people joined with the axe as a handle, and they gave the strength to cut my soul."

Hari Om! Everybody! Rāja Yoga is the yoga of the master. But Rāja Yoga is not only one branch; it is like the strong trunk of a big tree. Ask that trunk, "How many years did it take until you became so mighty and strong? What made you so mighty? Who protected you? Who gave you the strength?" The branches. If you cut off all the branches, the trunk has no beauty. So Jñāna Yoga is that mighty tree—a huge tree whose branches cover the whole earth. Rāja Yoga is the strength of the trunk of the tree. Jñāna Yoga is the beauty of the branches. Oneness is the same quality of the seeds. Though one branch is east, west, north, or south—different directions—the taste of the fruit is the same. The seed is the same. The leaves and the design of the leaves are the same. So that is Jñāna Yoga. That is Eko-Brahma; oneness is the Brahman. There is no duality. So in the tree there is no duality, and still it is a humble Bhakti Yoga. Bhakti means devotion. Devotion means accepting humbleness, serving. Kindness is never angry, always saying, "Yes, I will do it." And that is all branches, different directions, so that every kind of bird can come and have shelter there. It gives nice shade and also gives protection. When suddenly a storm comes and the hail falls, we go under the tree. At least we can be saved; it will fall on our head. But first, the tree will hold, and then gently it will fall down. That’s bhakti. They are the branches that are holding everything and enduring that situation. And for the branches, there are fruits, blossoms, and the trunk. It is that one of the mighty parts of yoga that is Karma Yoga. Which are the roots? They are karma yogīs. They are ready to do anything. They even go under the earth and hold the tree, not letting it fall. If the karma yogī is weak and a little bit careless, then the storm will root that tree out. Oh, karma yogīs, you were not taking care. So karma yogīs are ever and ever ready, 24 hours, to keep the tree alive, bringing the nutrition, nourishment, and keeping the quality. But sometimes there comes a person with negative thinking, and that influences the roots of the karma yogīs. "Why are you doing such hard work, and for what? It’s not worth it. Why are you working so hard?" Those are the worms; those are the termites which attack the tree. How? From the roots. So when an organization doesn’t function properly, because the termites, the blackmailings, the criticizing of the worms destroys the mighty tree. And sometimes it is from that organization itself, not from anywhere else. So, there was a beautiful park. It had ancient trees—1,000, 2,000, 5,000-year-old trees. The trunk is very thick; twenty-five people have to hold hands to hug that tree. Yes, there are some trees still. Banyan trees, the roots come and it becomes so big. What is that? An organization. That is some kind of good institute. That’s a good NGO. That’s a good politician. Yes, because they are strong. And who is making them strong? Their own people, own members, own organizers. That keeps beauty, strength, comfort, and everyone feels happy and joyful. So there was a forest on hundreds of hectares of land, thousands of hectares, with many happy animals. And one Kriyā Yogī came. Today I gave the Kriyā Anuṣṭhā, the initiation. That was so wonderful and so nice. Till now, who got the Kriyā? You understand? Our Kriyā initiation. It was good. But today was something; even if they don’t practice now, inside, this process is going on. Purifications and the past life’s karmas—you are detached from that. They will come to you, but before they will enter, your consciousness is purified. So in that forest, one great saint who had a kriyā—that same kriyā which you got; it is Alakpurījī—while this saint was walking through the forest with big, big trees and big trunks, he came to the oldest tree and he became sad. A yogī should not be sad. Holy saints should not be sad. Self-realized cannot be sad. That’s not true. They are also sad. God is also sad. God also expresses pity. So when you are sometimes a little sad, this means you are now awakening. You see the situation. The head sees the situation. So this ṛṣi looked at the old tree, and he was sad. The thousands-of-years-old tree, wise one, great wise one, enjoying the grand, grand... Children, how happy he is. And this tree tells the yogi, Gurudev, "Why do you look sad today?" He said. The yogi answered, "Yes, I am sad." Sem smutný. He said, "Why? Proč? Your life will not be long anymore. Už. You will be destroyed. Zničí tě." He said, "Why? Proč?" "Because your enemy is coming." "Enemy? Nepřítel. Gurudev, I am 5,000 years old. Many enemies came, but they couldn’t do anything. Oh, great Ṛṣi. Go and meditate. Don’t worry." He said, the ṛṣi said, "I see the future. That is my weakness, Trikāl Darśī. Your enemy. Achagurude, who is my enemy? Our enemy. Where is he? Well, he is still not born. But he is in the womb of the mother. Which mother? In which womb? Fire. Many times there was fire in this forest. My children need that warmth sometimes. Then they sprout better." "How does my enemy look? Where is he?" "He’s at the workshop of the blacksmith. He’s getting training inside the fire, outside the fire, with the hammers. When he becomes a little resistant, again in the fire. It’s a hard training. What is that, master? An axe? How big? Oh, it is just about 20 centimeters. Well, only about 20 centimeters." "Oh, Gurudeva! This little piece of iron. Look at all your bhaktas, all your members. They are so thick. Gurudeva, go and meditate. Don’t worry." Gurujī said, "Go meditate and don’t worry about it." So Gurujī went. After ten years, Gurujī came to this side of the park. All trees were down, cut. And this old tree trunk is lying there. And Gurujī came. "Old trunk, 5,000 years old." "Yes, Gurudev. You were right. That enemy destroyed us." "Yes, but tell me, please, old tree, Mr. Wood. How did they destroy you, this little piece of iron?" "Unfortunately, my own people joined with the axe as a handle, and they gave the strength to cut my soul. It was our own people." It means the wood. The handle is from the wood. Similarly, my dear, Rāja Yogī says, watch everything. Clean. Look transparent. And when you come to know a little bit of air, clean up. No bamboo, no flute, no noise. Therefore, the Rāja Yogī is alert. The Rāja Yogī never sleeps. What does that mean? The body is sleeping, but it is inwardly awakened, alert. So, do not sleep in ignorance. Do not fail to come to that society which can weaken your strength. Keep your organization healthy. Sometimes we have to cut one branch so that this branch doesn’t become the handle of our enemy, the strength of our enemy. You understand the story? Rāja Yogī. So the Rāja Yogī was that Gurudev, that Ṛṣi. The other one was that forest, which was proud. "I am here five thousand years; it’s my land." Nothing is ours, my dear. And that’s how every country faces, they were facing though, even there was a king. When the kings were there, there was constantly a war. And now, when democracy came, it was systematically organized, slowly, slowly. So the elements, if it is some illness, then you should treat them. With what? Help. Give clarity. Give support. Give knowledge, and explain what life is. So, you know, when someone has a company, after some time the employees don’t feel that they are belonging to the company. They are only taking care that they get money. That’s all. They should close the shop exactly at five o’clock, but they will close it 20 minutes before. "Let’s go." So you have to feel that company is your company. You are getting payment. And if this company will not exist, who will pay? You should know. You depend on your existence through this company. So you also depend, you exist on that, your spiritual company. So, Jñānī Rāja Yoga has to have eyes in every direction. Holi Gurujī used to say, "Everyone has two eyes, but the king should have four eyes. Two eyes to observe his kingdom, and two eyes inside to solve the problems of his people." What they need: eating, living, money, all kinds of comfort. Then it is great. Our body is our kingdom, and our ātmā, antaratmā, is the king. And our ten indriyas are our best workers, the ministers. Now these ministers are doing selfish, meaning corruption. Or they serve for all; it is the best one. Our whole body, our organs, heart, liver, kidneys, all intestines, glands, muscles, joints, everything. The king has to take care. And who is the king? Yourself. Who is yourself? Your ātmā. Yes. So you are living in this palace of this kingdom. So, Rāja Yoga is something great. Practice Rāja Yoga, but in Rāja Yoga there is a very strong power: Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Jñāna Yoga, Kriyā Yoga, Haṭha Yoga. All yoga, one yoga. Ekobrahma Duttinasti: one in all, all in one. So, let’s look at this tree where we are sitting, or this tree. Look. It has been nearly more than a hundred years. How healthy she is. A little worm cannot do anything. She will do it herself, clean everything. So this is a mighty, healthy, beautiful tree. A shelter for us all, and now compare yourself with this tree. You have to maintain yourself to be mighty, healthy, and good. The fifteenth chapter of the Bhagavad Gītā says, "All these trees have their roots down in the earth." But oh man, your roots are on the top and your branches are down. So take care of your branches. Don’t break them. Don’t jump there. So our duty is to maintain our body well, healthy and sound. That is what Gyan Raja Yoga said. Ayurveda says the first wealth is good health. Health is not all, but everything is nothing without health. And how to gain the help? We have this mighty tree. Ourself. And that is yoga in daily life. So yoga in daily life, you have all kinds of remedies, all kinds of treatments, all possibilities to check all your organs, all the systems, and you will be so healthy physically, mentally, spiritually, socially. Social education is very important. So Raja Yoga is very, very good. And Raja is a king. He is a yogī, but he is a king. And he is a king, but he is a yogī. Then he is alert and aware. So you are the king. You are the king. Ātmā. That bhajan which, again, I have forgotten to bring with you: "Tu kāya nagarka rājā, you are the king of this body. Man, indriyā terī prajā, mind and senses are your people. Mat kariski gulāmī, don’t be the slave to them indriyas, senses and mind. Rājā Antaryāmī, O, the inner self king. Je nagarīhe ṭhagokī, this city has become city of the cheaters: our feelings, our habits, our weakness, our desires, our ignorance, our stupidity, our pride, our jealousy, our hate. How long should I count? These are all our enemies, cheaters. They will cheat everything." So this is a very nice bhajan. I must bring it for you in the afternoon to translate. Someone should remind me. Maybe Gajānand will have it in his book. Gajanand is that worm of the library. And that worm brings me always something good from the library and says, "Here it is." So he knows the weakness of that library, but he’s supporting that library, purifying that library. So, Rāja Yoga: Yama, Niyama, Āsana, Prāṇāyāma, Pratyāhāra, Dhāraṇā, Dhyāna, Samādhi. This is a long, long way. But if we can master the first two principles, we have nearly crossed the ocean. But these first two principles are so hard. For someone, it’s very hard. I’m asking Patañjali why he didn’t put it at the end. Next, tomorrow night I will have a dialogue with Patañjali. Mr. Patañjali. But in that case, he will be the winner. So better I keep my respect. So, Yama, Niyama, these are the ten commandments. And that is exactly what we have in the Bible. Biblická přikázání. Patañjali se psal jako první, so I think this one thing is discipline. Discipline in everything. Discipline in everything, so also discipline in driving a car. So when you drive back today, if you drive a little bit too quick, or you try to overtake, or you try to overtake, ... or you try to overtake, or you try to overtake, or you try... to overtake. Try to overtake, or you try to overtake, or you try to overtake. That is a discipline. So then you will say discipline. Swamiji said discipline, so road discipline is very important. Otherwise, the chapter is finished here. So similarly, for a yogī, inner yoga, don’t try to rest here and there, and read this book and read that book, and go to that program and to other ones and this. No, I can tell you, you can do whatever you want, you will not get liberation and self-realization in this life till the end. From program to program, to everything possible, I can guarantee you that during this life you will not reach the final goal. You have. You have. You gained it. But still we will not credit it to you. Until the last minute, when the Prime Minister dies, everybody goes to the funeral and says, "Yes, he was a nice person. Yes, it was good. It was an opposition. But he was great," and when he was alive, nobody said that he’s a good prime minister or he’s a good president. But when he comes under the fire or under the earth, then we feel, then the good qualities are blossoming, coming, sprouting. So similarly, for a spiritual person, it’s a hard life. But at the end, then you will feel it. So your spiritual credit will be coming to you at the end of life. And we wait for that day, so use our inner eyes. One saint said, "I went to see the bad people." But I didn’t find them. How did these bad thoughts come into your heart and into your brain? Then you spoke. So first you had to develop this bad quality in your heart and in your brain. And then you said they are bad. They are not bad. From where is this badness rooted? In yourself. So if you don’t have bad qualities in you, then you will say something very nice: forgive them. They don’t know what they are doing. Who said this? Yes, it is written in the Bible. Do we follow this? If I’m bad and you are Christians, will you call me a bad person? Then, definitely, you are not a Christian. You are only a player. Yeah, you are not a Christian. Great pity. Great pity. Jesus on the cross, he sees the pity that they don’t understand yet, still. That’s it. So the whole world will follow this one word of Jesus. Oh, no question. The whole world will be in peace. All will throw the weapons out. Thou shalt not kill. Who is supplying the weapons? Which religion? And what will Jesus say? Jesus doesn’t support only Christians. He supports every creature, every human being. Because he belongs to all. That’s why we call him God, or the Son of God, who leads us to the Holy Father. The same is Kṛṣṇa, and the same is Rāma. But there are little differences. Jesus threw everything out and surrendered in the name of God, Holy Father. "Holy Father, I pray your children are innocent. So they don’t know what they are doing." But sometimes in nice, innocent, and definitely the satans mix in. That’s called devils. That’s called rākṣasas. And therefore, every incarnation of God, all these twenty-four incarnations, including Gaṇeśa, Hanumānjī, and Swāmījī. Swamiji is telling that in every incarnation, they have in their hand blessing and weapon. Krishna also had a weapon. What was that? Sudarśan cakra. Rāma also had bow and arrow. Gaṇeśa also had an axe. So that is why God is coming here. He need not come. When he comes, traffic is blocked. So why does he come? What should he do here? God, enjoy heaven. And when we come, we will see you there. Let your children be free. But why do they come? Nimit Avatāra and Nityāvatāra. So Nimit Avatāra is that God who comes time to time. "O Arjuna, whenever the dharma is pushed down, dharma is suffering, and adharma comes up, then, in every yuga, I incarnate to destroy adharma, support my bhaktas, and establish dharma." Bhakti is the destroyer of adharma. My bhakta means not only my Hindus or my Muslims or my Christians. If it is a god, then for him all is equal. So similarly, Rāja Yogīs have two eyes to observe and do the worldly work, and two eyes are inside to govern all in the best way. So yoga is perfect for humans to be perfect. Hamsabdhās prabhusaraṇa-parāyaṇam. Hamsabdhās prabhusaraṇa-parāyaṇam. Oṁ namaḥ śrī prabhu-dīpa-nārāyaṇam. Oṁ namaḥ śrī prabhu-dīpa-nārāyaṇam. Hama Saba Bhakta Prabhu Śaraṇa Parāyaṇa.
