How to control diabetes

Balancing the solar plexus is key for managing diabetes and energy.

Yoga offers a scientific system for holistic health. Diabetes can be controlled through movement, nourishment, and environment. An imbalanced solar plexus, shifting left or right, disrupts energy and digestion, leading to issues like fatigue. A simple self-test identifies the pulse's location. Corrective leg movements can recenter this energy in minutes. A balanced navel restores vitality and supports digestive fire. This practice, done regularly, serves as prevention and healing. All five elements within must be in harmony for health.

"Where there is a human, there is yoga, and where there is yoga, there is a human."

"If our solar plexus is healthy, we will have immense energy."

Good evening once more. Welcome, dear sisters and brothers. This evening we have a special program: one lecture with practical exercises. Yoga, as we all know, has become an international subject. Where there is a human, there is yoga, and where there is yoga, there is a human. Everyone has a different way of teaching and different techniques. The Yoga in Daily Life system is a scientific one, proven by research in several countries and by different doctors. It is declared and appears in many scientific magazines. It concerns physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health—the harmony of body, mind, and soul. Yesterday and today, we spoke about diabetes. I do hope that you do not have it, but it is good to know some exercises as a prevention. Or perhaps some of your family members, friends, or relatives have diabetes, and we can try to help. Unfortunately, doctors today still say diabetes is not curable, while Ayurveda and yoga say it can be cured. So, let us say we remain in between. This means we control our diabetes through movement, nourishment, and environment. These are the three main principles of yoga to control diabetes. We will have practical exercises and talk further. I will give you instructions, and you will do them. If you do not mind, sometimes it is difficult, but not hard. Sometimes it means you have to open your stomach a little and use your thumb on it. That is all—not like on the beach, but in yoga. We spoke yesterday about the pancreas and solar plexus. The solar plexus has a knot, and there is a very strong pulse there. We know that our life begins from here. The navel is the center of our body and the center of the entire universe. If there is some kind of imbalance there, it can cause diabetes, diarrhea, constipation, headaches, or a loss of energy. You may eat very good food, nuts and so on, but still have no energy and feel very tired, always sleepy. There are many reactions due to solar plexus imbalance. Today we will learn how to balance our solar plexus. In half a minute, we will repair it. Is that good? Half a minute? Wow! If you go to the doctor and put on your shoes, it is already more than two minutes. So this is a technique, some postures, and something different. If our solar plexus is healthy, we will have immense energy. That center is called Nābhi in Sanskrit, or in yoga language, Nābhi—the navel. When we test our solar plexus, we find it has slid either to the left side or to the right side. That is all; it does not slide down or up, only left or right. That causes a lack of energy, a lack of concentration, and may cause digestive disturbances, constipation, diarrhea, or loose stool, etc. We shall now first find out in which direction your navel is functioning. Is it in the middle or to the side? I will give you instructions, and you will do it. You need not sigh; nobody will see, as everyone is occupied with their own subject. Let us do the first step. Please lie down on your yoga mat, head towards my side. We do not need a pillow. Just relax. Place your hands beside the body. Relax. Take one deep inhale and exhale. Very good. Just relax. Now, roll yourself over onto your stomach. That is also an exercise. Your elbows should be standing, your palms together, and your chin resting in your palms. Feel comfortable and relaxed. I want to explain how you will do this. Use your right thumb—if someone has no right thumb, we can use the left, no problem. So, right or left, one of the thumbs, but like this way, not that way. Exactly like this. That position is not good; I only wanted to explain it to make it easier. That is why I said, "Turn over stomach." This thumb we have to put like this and not like that. It can happen that it opens the navel and the thumb goes deep in. Then, of course, I have to call the doctors. So do not do it like that. The navel is one of the most powerful and important points. You in New Zealand have a little problem with the ozone. Sometimes when you go on the beach or in the sun, your lips get sore or you get a blister. You can put aloe vera on it; it is gone very quickly in one day. If it still does not go, then the best way is that before going to sleep, you take a little ghee, melted butter, just a finger’s weight of it, and put it on your navel and sleep. In the morning, it will be gone. You place the ghee here, and it reflects its effect elsewhere. It is good, but here it means not eating it; you just put the cream on the navel. See the miracle. But today we are focusing on diabetes. So, you will press your thumb on your navel. Apply pressure; you have to feel. If you do not feel, then exhale, let your head and stomach go down, and press again until you feel the pulse there. This is a normal one. If you do not feel it here, turn a little to the left side, and it may be there. The left side is pulsing, or the right side. Then, definitely, you have a disorder in your digestion, your energies, etc. So, just feel it and remain there. Then I will give you further instructions. Please lie down on your back. Hands beside the body. Relax your whole body. You do not need a pillow or a blanket; it is only a few minutes. Take one deep inhale and exhale. Legs together. Now, take your right thumb. Bring your hand under your shirt, or under the shirt, let your thumb go directly into the middle of the navel and press down. Feel where it is pulsing: left side, right side, or in the middle. Just find out. You need not tell me anything; I will ask you afterward. Please check properly. I give you one or two minutes to find where exactly your nāḍī, the pulse, is moving. If you cannot feel it, exhale more and press the stomach inward. Very good. Now place your hand beside the body. I will ask the question, and you will only raise your hand. First question: those who felt the pulse of the navel on the right side more, please raise your hand. Who was feeling the right side? One, two, three, four, five. Thank you; hand down, relax. And who was feeling the left side? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve... oh, sixteen. Very good. Thank you; hand down. When we go to an orthopedist, they sometimes measure our leg. It is in everyone; there is some millimeter or centimeter where one leg is short. And on that side, again and again, this nāḍī is moving on the other side. We call it peśūtī, but you need not learn the language today. Now, the third question: who has felt the pulse in the middle? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Thank you. Now, those who had a left-side pulse feeling, raise your left leg up. Keep your right leg straight on the ground. Now bend your knee, just bend your knee. In the middle, there is someone who is having the leg very up, bending the knee. Omapuri, left to you, yes, good, it is very good. Now, five times, quickly, kick something with your left leg—but not kicking up; go towards the ground with your heel. One, two, three, four, five. Finished. Press your legs down. Now, check your navel, please, those who were on the left side. If it came to the middle, raise your hand up. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Thank you, eight, eleven. So we are successful. Yes, we are walking on the right path. Now, those who had a feeling of the navel to the right side, please raise your right leg up and bend the knee. Just five times, kick with your leg down towards the ground, not up. One, two, three, four, five. Finished. Leg down. Now check your navel, please. If the navel is in the center, please raise your hand. Yes, one, two, three, four, five. Good, thank you. So we are getting to the right place. There is no third experiment because you have corrected your navel. Now, slowly turn over to your stomach. You will feel much better today, and you will feel the energy. This can happen because, for a long time, it has been imbalanced and displaced. So, you should do this technique for two or three days, and it will give you very, very much energy. There is a... they call it the second... green... kidneys, small, here... I do not know, Chetan... Omapuri Viśākhamandās, Nebnyan, there is some name, yeah? And that is here, and that makes you very tired if it has gone down. That will also cause diabetes, and this place of the navel also causes it. So now, for that energy, we will do the experiment again, and then we will cure it forever. That is a good idea. Otherwise, sometimes they have to operate. Yes, they operate; they hang it up a little. So, who has the problem of always being tired? No one is tired? Oh, one, two... there is not enough light, so... Okay, so kiwis are healthy. Alright, so if not, then I will not give you the exercise. There are three behind, so for that, okay. There is one posture in Yoga in Daily Life, in your book. It is called Viparīta Kāraṇī Mudrā. If you have a yoga book, someone please bring it. That Viparīta Kāraṇī Mudrā is like a shoulder stand, but not a complete shoulder stand—a half shoulder stand. That will give you a lot of energy, and also your navel will come and balance on the... Can you show the Viparītakaraṇī Mudrā? So, until he finds out, we do not waste time. Please sit up. Which one, left or right? Yeah, then you should show, do the right. Very good. Okay. This one. You know everybody, yes? Thank you. Yesterday we spoke about Jāṭharāgni, the digestive fire. Did we? Who was here? Thank you. We spoke about Jāṭharāgni, the fire. There are different kinds of fire in the body and outside, and fire for us is holy. Water is holy. Earth is holy. Space is holy, and air is holy. These are the five elements. If one element is missing, we die. So when all are there, they are holy for us. Okay, divine holy, who is who, God or whatever, that we will talk about later. But today, it presents that we want to be healthy, so all these five elements should be balanced in us. Fire. Fire is of different kinds, or in different places. One fire is what we normally see, the fire in our cooking oven. In old days, people in India also, before they began to cook and make fire, would pray to the fire. Then, there is another fire in our chimney. When it is very cold and we light the fire in the chimney, it gets good. We accept it. At that time, fire is like a little baby, and we want to have this baby in our arms, so we also respect the fire. In the crematorium, when they burn the dead body, we also adore that soul, that person who died and is now in this fire. There is a fire where you make a lamp on the altar. Why is there no light today? Everybody has forgotten. Or in the church you have a candle, the fire. That is also holy fire. Then, there is a fire in the clouds, lightning. That is also fire and gives us a kind of hope that now water will come. There is a fire which we adore, and we are very careful. That is called... in New Zealand you have a lot of volcanoes and earthquakes. The fire has such a strong energy, it moves the earth. And that fire, we also adore and respect, that God protect us. The fire in the cold, on the snow, so that is called Navāgni. When it is very cold, when the temperature goes below, then everything burns, the leaves. There is a fire. If you hold ice in your hands, first it is very cold, but then after, it feels like burning. Then there is a fire for ceremonies, like fire ceremonies. We all adore this fire. So all fire we adore, but one fire we do not adore: when you put out a cigarette and after you throw it down, you step on it with your leg. So do not smoke now, okay? Respect the fire. Then there is the jāṭharāgni, the digestive fire. When we are hungry, then the fire is asking for more and more to eat and drink. Then there is vairāgya. Vairāgya is the fire of love and feelings—different kinds of feelings. Also, when a mother goes to work and her little baby is at home, all the time in her heart is a feeling: "How is my child? How is that?" That is called virahāgni. Or we are searching for, longing for God. So there are different kinds of fire; our whole body is full of fire. And when this fire is disrupted due to this nāḍī, this palace, then the fire is disrupted. Then diabetes begins. So now, how to do this? One exercise is very, very good. It will be prevention, protection, or healing. This is a very easy exercise. I like comfortable. I do not like all this going up and twisting. So, when I am comfortable, I will give you comfort also. And the effect is 100%. That is good. These exercises we do should be done only at least four hours after eating, not before. Now, you will wait. You will lie down and place one hand, the right hand, on the chest, on the heart, and the left hand palm on the navel. You will lie down then, yeah? No, no, I will tell you. And then you will do like this. The master has to have a big stomach to demonstrate. Clear? Yes. Now you understand. Inhale, exhale. Exhale. Did you ever hear a locomotive, a coal steamer? When it starts, then it starts off. It is going, locomotive, and then it goes on the heels a little bit, then it goes like this, and then it goes down. So all is this, but that is for our pancreas and the solar plexus. So now you can lie down on your back, head towards my side, please. You need not put your hand under your dress. You can put it on, but on the stomach, on the navel. And, if you want, on your heart, but not exactly on the heart. It is between the chest, near the chin a little bit. And do not press with both hands; do not press. So we blow our stomach out and contract. Expand and contract. Very good. Hands beside the body and roll over onto the stomach. You had a little difficulty breathing properly. We will breathe only from the stomach. And you were doing something like this, and then someone, I do not know what to say, did not know: should I do first here and then here? So, it is smooth. Here, it is only that you are not putting up and down. Shoulders should not move up and down, not like this, not like this. So, please try again. Very good. Relax both hands beside the body. Now bend both knees, let your soles rest on the ground. You may have your knees slightly apart. Relax. Hold your body very relaxed. Feel that your whole back is on the ground; do not make a bridge under the back. Just relax and try to feel now if your navel is still in the right place. So with one of your thumbs, please test, try yourself. Good. Place your hand down. You can keep your legs as they are if you feel comfortable. And for my contentment, raise your hand up if your navel is on the right point. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Thank you. And rest your head up. Dispel it again. Who had a displaced navel? Hands up, please. Okay. One, two, three. Okay. Thank you. Rest one. Did not feel. That is also good. Relax. Hands. Stretch your legs, your stomach, and again, chin in your hands. And one after the other, slowly bend your leg and knee, and stretch. One after the other. Try to keep your knees together. Not so quick, Lakshmī. Very good. Now, hold your feet with both hands. Knees together, chin on the ground. For a while, remain in this position. And now, hold your left foot with your right hand and your right foot with your left hand. Yes, okay, it is difficult. Good. Stretch your legs on the ground. One side, your cheek on the ground. Take one deep inhale and exhale. Slowly move your body and sit up. These are a few exercises for diabetes, digestion, and also the problem if someone has gastric issues. Did we speak yesterday about gastric problems? It was another day; I am somewhere. So, there is some formula for different things. Tomorrow morning I will be here from 10:30 until 12, or quarter to 12. I am not here. J.C. Street—I do not know what is J.C. Street. So we will do it on JC Street. So tomorrow, either you are coming to the beautiful city, Wellington, JC Street, or you can listen to the website webcast; we will do it. So you can also practice with it. If not, then ask your yoga teacher, Mr. Madhuram. So, I will tell him which exercises he can do. Do you have any questions? I am sorry that we are halfway. To leave you alone halfway is not good. But tomorrow I will guide you, okay? With the Swāmījī TV, you know that? Or, who does not know? You do not answer anything. Siddha Purījī, Siddha Purījī... For this, our diabetes, two or three very simple exercises, very easily you can do them, and a little bit about some kind of nourishment, some kind of herbs, which I will explain to you. They are very, very powerful and effective for gastric problems or joint problems. Two or three formulas tomorrow. I wish you a very good night. God bless you. And sometimes maybe we will see each other somewhere. Take care. Adiós.
