International day of Yoga 2017

Yoga is a fundamental system of knowledge leading to self-realization and unity. It begins as physical practice but becomes a transformative way of life, offering inner peace and a comprehensive worldview. This practice increases self-awareness and fosters harmony with one's surroundings. It is celebrated as a daily affair that unites different paths into a beautiful whole. The practice provides insight into one's inner self and connection to the broader environment. Ultimately, it is an integral part of existence, like breath itself.

"Yoga is a method for increasing awareness of this perceiving self."

"Yoga is truly a daily affair... it is something like—if I were to compare it to my breath—we cannot live without it."

Today, we have gathered to inaugurate the third day of the yoga competition. India holds the belief that yoga embodies an inherent, competitive value of a person. It is believed that India will present yoga to all corners of our planet so that we may all enjoy better health, live in community, and dwell together in society and harmony. Yoga is more than a system of results. It is a fundamental Indian system of knowledge, a process of inquiry, a method of personal development, and a matter of transformation. Yoga is a method for increasing awareness of this perceiving self. Ultimately, yoga leads to the highest goal of life: the natural realization of our potential knowledge. Even when we begin with yoga as a physical practice, one day you will realize that it is much more—that you transform and transform for the better. I have been practicing more or less for about eight years, so of course it is very positive, and I only regret not practicing more. Providing food to poor and needy persons is the highest form of charity, but making people learn by teaching them is the supreme form of charity. Food gives momentary satisfaction, but knowledge will empower you to lead a fulfilling life. My youngest daughter, she is nine, also practices yoga. So we are also supporters of yoga and greatly appreciate that you chose to do it here in Prague 2, because we strongly support yoga. You surely know that in Vinohrady and throughout Prague 2, there are many studios where yoga is practiced. So enjoy your day, and thank you for choosing Prague 2. Yama, which means what not to do, or what to refrain from doing; Niyama, which means what to do; Āsana, which means what to do; Prāṇāyāma, which means what to do; Pratyāhāra, which means what to do; Dhāraṇā, which means what to do; Dhyāna, which means what to do; and finally Samādhi, which means what to do... May it be for the people of Prague, Prague Two, and all those passing by and seeking inspiration, not only for the body but also for the spirit. I thank the organizers of this event, and I thank all of you for coming. I learned about this extraordinary day of yoga on Facebook. I have practiced yoga on my own, and I enjoy practicing it. It gives me a feeling of inner peace, ease, and relaxation. I found it interesting, this kind of approach of a yogi to people, that actually anyone can take a look. I try to practice more at home as well. At first, I approached it more as just exercise, but then, as one delves deeper into it, I believe especially into the system of yoga in daily life, it becomes a way of life. International Day of Yoga is for me such a grand celebration of yoga, and I am very happy that yoga has its own festival, its own day, because there are many paths, many different kinds of yoga, and on this very day, yoga actually unites into one beautiful whole. In fact, we celebrate it every day through our daily practice, because yoga is truly a daily affair for me. It is something like—if I were to compare it to my breath—we cannot live without it either, and yoga is actually a part of my life. It is not just about the practice, but also about the approach to life, to your surroundings, to nature. It is essentially a comprehensive view of the world, a way of life. It is something that can give a person insight into their inner self and actually feel the unity with the broader environment around them. So I came to yoga when I was pregnant for the first time; my back was hurting, I actually didn’t know much about it, and it helped me a lot. Then simply, when one goes deep enough, it certainly, I think I can say, it definitely changed my life. I really like that concept, especially the fact that the practice takes place outdoors in the park—I think that is truly wonderful. The weather turned out beautifully, and I really enjoyed it; I was here for two and a half hours. So yoga, of course physically, is an absolutely wonderful thing for my body, for my mind, and I can completely switch off naturally. Where have you come from? I came from France. I also came here. When I saw it, I opened myself and said that it was wonderful to watch. Yes, it is relaxing. It reminds you how to concentrate on yourself.
